(A/N: As you can see I'm back to updating all of my stories. LOL. Sorry for the long wait. Hope you all enjoy.)
VII.
Once Fitz walked out the door; Jake just stood still for a long time, staring at her. Olivia was looking down at the ground, with tears in her eyes. She never meant for things to turn out like this. The last thing she wanted to do was hurt Jake. She wasn't in love with him, but she did care about him a lot. The silence was deafening. She wanted to say something, but she wasn't sure where to start. Jake sighed heavily.
"Was any of this real?" he asked her motioning between the two of them. She looked up at him and nodded.
"Of course it was Jake. I wouldn't have stayed with you for so long if I didn't care about you deeply," she admitted. He placed his hands on his hips and shook his head in disbelief.
"I've never cheated on you Olivia," he countered. "How could you do this to me, with someone who's supposed to be my best friend!" his voice got louder unexpectedly. She flinched a little but stood her ground.
"I'm sorry," she cried. He frowned, still disgusted. "We never meant to hurt you." Jake scoffed.
"But you did!" he snapped. Olivia cried even harder and Jake tried to calm down. "We were supposed to get married Liv. We were supposed to start a family, and open our own practice one day," He moved closer to her and grabbed her hands. "You remember that, don't you Liv. Baby I love you, we belong together. You know that," he said looking into her eyes. "Tell me you know that," he pleaded.
Olivia dropped his gaze, and shook her head. "I can't...I don't…" she stumbled. He dropped her hands from his grasp, and backed away from her, frustrated.
"So you're just gonna throw everything we have away!" Jake yelled angrily. Olivia trembled as her tears continued to flow freely. She mumbled something under her breath, making Jake even more frustrated that he couldn't hear what she was saying. "Speak up!" he demanded.
"I said we haven't been happy in years!" she yelled back. "You're always working or I'm always working, we never spend any time together. We don't know each other anymore Jake!" Jake rolled his eyes.
"So that's an excuse to cheat!" he yelled angrily. She shook her head.
"No. I shouldn't have strung you along, you're right. I should have said something three months before that. But I was confused and scared. I didn't want to admit it to myself," she rambled.
"Admit what," he snarled. Olivia remained silent. Looking everywhere but at him. Jake raised an angry eyebrow. "Are you...are you in love with him?" he choked out. Olivia took a deep breath, but remained silent. "I asked you a question!" he yelled louder as he got closer to her. This time he was invading her personal space. She took a step back, and turned away from him, trying to regain control of her emotions. "Answer me!" he demanded angrily.
"Yes!" she yelled back turning to face him. "I'm in love with him Jake! Is that what you want to hear dammit! I love him okay!"
"I can't fucking believe this!" he yelled out in shock. Olivia took a deep breath.
"Look, I'm sorry ok, I can't take back what I've done. But I love him, I'm in love with him, and he's in love with me," she said confidently. Jake rolled his eyes.
"Un-fucking-believable," said Jake laughing humorlessly. "You really believe that?" he asked rhetorically. She nodded and then thought about something.
"Did he tell you that he was in love with me back in freshman year?" she asked quickly. Jake narrowed his eyes.
"Yeah, he told me that, and then he fucked Amanda Tanner three days later, after I," said Jake pointing to himself. "Asked you out." Olivia looked at him in horror. Jake smirked evilly. "Oh but I bet you didn't know that part now did you?" he asked advancing on her. "He was so in love with you that he fucked another girl, and dated her after that for three years." Olivia shook her head.
"That was a long time ago; it doesn't matter anymore," she said weakly. Jake ignored that comment and pushed on.
"When we moved in together, he hooked up with that girl Mellie, remember her. The slutty one, remember?" he asked mockingly. "And after her there was Angela, Jeanine and then Lillian. Now you Liv, you've been added to his list of whores." Olivia advanced on Jake, and slapped him hard across the face.
"Fuck you!" she yelled sobbing. Jake sighed.
"I'm sorry. I didn't tell you that to upset you Liv." He paused, trying to gather his thoughts. "I'm trying to get you to see that Fitz is not in love with you. If he was then why didn't he say something you right away huh? Why did he wait all this time? He just wanted to fuck whoever he could Liv; your name just so happened to be on his list as well." Olivia shook her head in disbelief. She felt herself getting very angry.
"You don't know what you're talking about!" she spat out at him.
"He's always wanted what I've had," said Jake continuing, ignoring her last comment. "Fitz got with those girls, had sex with them and then dropped them like they were nothing. What makes you think he won't do the same thing to you?" he asked Olivia's eyes watered as she considered what Jake was saying.
Everything he said was true. Fitz did hook up with a numerous amount of girls back then. But he'd been on the straight and narrow since for a while now. As far as she knew. Besides, he was single when he hooked up with those girls, technically he could do whatever he wanted. But still, to think that she was just another notch on his belt that one hurt.
"I've never cheated on you Olivia, I was always faithful to you. And I'll continue to be. But I need you to choose me baby. I love you, and I would never hurt you."
"Jake, I don't want to lose you," she said honestly. Jake had been a very important part of her life for almost a decade now. He was a consistent part of her life, one she had gotten used too.
"Liv, come on baby don't give up on us," he begged. "I would never leave you, can you say the same for him?"
Olivia was utterly confused. She wanted to believe what Fitz told her. She could see it in his eyes. He loved her, but Jake had always been there. And she knew that he always would be if only she'd ask. Fitz was a wild card, and while she did love him deeply, some of what Jake was saying hit her hard.
"Jake I..." he cut her off and walked over to her taking her hands in his.
"We can forget all of this Liv. We can pretend that it never happened. Just leave with me right now." He looked her in her eyes. "We'll go home and get married and move on. We can get through this Liv, trust me. But we have to go now. What do you say?" he asked hopefully. Olivia looked in his eyes, but was at a lost for words, as she considered what he was saying.
Outside, Fitz was pacing. A million thoughts were running through his head. He knew that he loved Olivia. Knowing that she felt the same was the best thing that has ever happened to him. But Jake and Olivia had history. Jake wasn't a coward, he actually asked her out. Even though it was after Fitz told him that he was into Olivia, which was a low blow. Jake actually had the guts to say something to her. Fitz would forever regret that.
But when she told him she loved him too; he actually felt like there was hope. He felt like he got his second chance. He knew it would be tough, especially for her. But he knew that they could make it. They were made for each other, he felt that in his heart. Jake was just an obstacle that they had to get over. He was confident that they could; if she just gave them a chance. All he could hope for now, was that whatever Jake was saying wouldn't make her change her mind about the.
Abby watched him pace nervously on the front porch. She sighed. She knew that Olivia was in love with Fitz. She'd never been in love with Jake, not even close.
"Fitz, you're gonna walk a hole in this porch if you don't stop." Fitz stopped and took a deep breath. "Look, she loves you Fitz, there's no doubt in my mind. Calm down," she told him. Fitz nodded but still looked a little worried. A cab pulled up to the house about three minutes later. Fitz look over at it confused, then he looked over at Abby who was equally confused. She just shrugged.
Finally after about five more minutes, the front door opened. Fitz paused in place, and looked at the door hopefully. Jake walked out with his luggage in tow. He walked right past Fitz and Abby without saying a word. The cab driver got out of the car and opened the trunk. He put Jake's bag in the trunk and closes it. Jake gets in the backseat without a sighed, feeling relieved, as the cab driver got back in the car.
He was about to walk in the house, when Olivia stepped out of the house with her luggage as well. He could feel his heart shatter into a million pieces as she walked onto the porch. He looked over at her feeling devastated. She couldn't meet his eyes. He could tell that she had been crying. All he wanted to do was hold her and never let her go. But it looked like she was the one who was leaving him.
She walked past him quickly, without looking at him and mumbled. "I'm sorry."
Then she continued onto Abby. Abby hugged her and whispered something in her ear. She nodded and kept on walking towards the cab. The cab driver got out and put her luggage in the trunk with Jake's. Then he got back in the front seat and started the car. Olivia slide into the backseat next to Jake. He placed his hand on top of hers, looked at her and said.
"You're making the right decision."
She gave him a tight, forced smile. He smiled back at her, thinking it was genuine. She moved her hand from under his and looked out the window and over at Fitz. Their eyes connected, and she felt like crying again. He looked so broken. She felt her heart break with him. As the car pulled off she couldn't help but think that maybe Jake was wrong.
(A/N: Sorry it took so long to get this chapter out. But I hate the Jake character so much, I find it hard to write his character LOL. Anyway, WTH is going on with Liv huh? Up next Fitz lashes out, heartbroken. And Olivia has time to really think about her decision at the airport.)
