A/N not mine, I own nothing.
Someone for Her
I had never worked with Jeanne Ellen in the field. Her reputation was harsh; she always got the job done, but at a cost. I have always been able to pick and choose my team for missions, and I couldn't, in good conscience, use her.
"I want to see her, now." I told them. I said it barely above a whisper, with a coldness that had them all paling.
"Babydoll, you need to rest a little longer."
"Tank, I am telling you now, I will go see her now. I will do this with or without any back up. I can take all of you down without batting an eye, and I am only at about half my normal capacity at this moment."
"I'll go with you. I've worked with her before, I know what buttons to push," Ranger said.
"Thank you. I've alway refused to work with her, I'm honestly surprised that you did."
"Babe, I had no choice, it was an order."
"Tend to forget that you don't rank as high as me or Les, sorry Batman."
He nodded, "That's alright, you two are the best, and earned your rank. I've let myself become complacent, and some of the missions that I agreed to...well, I was lucky that I wasn't demoted or discharged."
"I know, I know every single one you ran. You made your choice, and I'll always respect the hell out of it.
"We are an elite group. There are very few of us who will do what we do, and still be able to walk among the rest of the world without losing it."
Les began to gather up the mess we had made. He handed me some clothes and my arsenal. I stripped in front of everyone, it didn't matter. They knew that I was on a mission, I would find out what she knew. I was a commanding officer, and they would treat me as such.
My body was aching, but I was determined to do this. Les was there silently supporting me. He and Marc were the only ones who really knew all of me, not just the parts I showed to everyone around me.
I slowly made my way to the basement and the holding cell, where Jeanne Ellen was being held. I took a deep breath and schooled my features. She did not need to see any emotion in my face. So many people thought that they could read my face, in all honesty they didn't know squat.
I looked through the two way glass and did not like what I saw. Jeanne Ellen's eyes were wide, and she had a crazed look to her. I'm not sure if she was acting, or if she had been drugged. FUCK! This was FUBAR.
I heard Ranger suck in a quick breath. Lester wrapped an arm around my waist. Tank placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Let's get this done."
I steeled myself and slammed the cell door open. I watched Jeanne Ellen jump. If she hadn't been cuffed and shackled, she would have hit the ceiling. She was terrified. This was no act.
When she saw me walk in with the guys, she seemed to relax; as if I was no threat to her. Wrong, I am the biggest threat to her.
"Plum, what the hell are you doing here? Ranger, did you get clearance to bring her in on a mission?"
"Burrows, you are not asking anything here."
She glared at me and tried to speak again. I bent her finger backwards until I heard it snap. She barely flinched.
"So...Chein, want to tell us what you are up to?"
She wanted to bolt, you could see it in her eyes. Only a select few knew her handle, and the fact that I did made her nervous. The tension in the room began to grow.
Ranger stepped up.
"Why are you after me?" he asked.
"Not you, never you. I'm after Shadow. I was told that he would be here. I am to bring him to an undisclosed location. There are a few parties interested in him. Why do you care? I'm just doing my damn job. I didn't know that one of you is Shadow.
"Why the hell is Plum with you anyway? She'll get you all killed. She is worthless and incompetent..."
She didn't get anymore out. Tank growled, her eyes went wide and she cowered for a second before she recovered.
"Morelli must've been right...she's fucking all of you."
I lost it with that remark. I had her out of her chair and in a choke hold against the wall in a matter of seconds. I will not tolerate what she implied. I think once all of this is done, I will be paying a visit to Morelli.
"Looks like you found Shadow, bitch. Want to tell me who wants me, or would you rather die right here?"
She went stone cold still. I could see her trying to come to some conclusion about what I was telling her. I watched as everything dawned on her. That what I was telling her was fact.
"No! You are nothing but an idiot! You CAN NOT be Shadow! You LIE! Everyone wants to be Shadow, no one wants to be you!"
"That's where you're wrong," Tank growled.
She began to struggle again. I flipped her onto the table, and put pressure on her throat using my forearm. Her face started to turn bright red, she was on the verge of passing out.
"Who sent you?"
" I don't know their name. Everything was done electronically. I don't even have an IP address," she grunted out.
"Les, get someone to gather all of her electronics. Have Hector back at Rangeman go over it. I want Jason to go over all of it here. Two heads are better than one on this.
"Take the bitch, and keep her in holding. I am nowhere near done with her."
I stormed out of the cell and went upstairs. I collapsed in the recliner in the den. I knew I pushed myself too hard, but I needed to do it.
I need to find out who is behind all of this.
Tank followed me, he picked me, up then sat down with me in his lap.
"Baby, I know you. You gotta take a break. You won't be any good to the team if you are exhausted. Let me take care of you for a bit tonight. I'll draw you a bubble bath, pamper you, and tuck you into bed next to me."
I nodded my head into his chest. He carried me up to my suite and gently laid me down on my bed.
I heard him turn on the water in the large whirlpool tub. I could see that he had the lights on low.
He came back in and picked me up after about five minutes. I was surprised when we got into the bathroom. The lights were low, the bubbles were high, and the candles were soft. He slowly undressed me and himself, picking me up again, he lowered us both into the tub.
"I need you to listen to me for a few moments, Baby. Okay?"
"Yes."
"We all need you to be at your best. Please, don't push yourself too far. I need you to stay safe."
He was right. I pushed too far tonight. I'll rest like he asked tonight. Hopefully the tranq will be completely out of my system tomorrow, but for tonight I'll let him take care of me.
A/N Thank you Maggie! My awesome beta, who once again has done an outstanding job sorting out my thoughts and mess!
I hope that everyone had a very happy new year!
