Chapter Six: The Last Day

It's been a long couple of days spent with Katherine and Klaus in the same small apartment. But of course that doesn't include all of Klaus' assistants that keep coming and going, in and out of Alaric's apartment. It's been hectic to say the least. Katherine has at least tried to kill me three times in the past two days, and Klaus has only caught her once from doing it- the first time- before he 'complied' her to stop trying to kill me or he would kill her. Of course, that didn't stop her from trying when me and her were alone, which was a lot of the time, since Klaus is always in and out. In fact, he's rarely ever in the apartment unless he's teasing Katherine or myself. Of course, I can't help but be afraid of him, even with his killer smile- and I do mean killer- whenever he cracks a joke. I've tried to ignore the two the best that I could, but Klaus' infatuation with me doesn't help me in the slightest. So I've settled to reading Alaric's books until I was talked to directly. Katherine didn't find me nearly as fun to tease when I ignored her to finish reading my chapter, but I either ate some food- whatever Ric actually had in his apartment- or going back to sleep. Klaus on the other hand, happened to find it fun to continuously watch me become more and more annoyed while he watched me read.

'You look so intrigued with the book, almost like you're completely gone from the world.' He would tell me, which lead me to eye rolls and scoffs, which would make him smirk at me with his gorgeous smile- and didn't he know that he was a looker.

I couldn't tell you how many times Katherine and I have found him smirking to himself while he passed the bathroom mirror- more eye rolls. I would say he was almost trying to annoy us to the bridge of aggravated. I held it in though, mostly because I was scared of what he would do, or rather, what he could do, if I said the wrong thing to him. And with my tongue, it's not hard to get myself into trouble. I am a Gilbert after all.

Though, I know that Klaus couldn't kill me, because of some reason that he needed me- he still hasn't explained why he needed me, and I really don't think he will- that doesn't mean that he couldn't hurt me, heal me, and then hurt me again. So I rather just keep my mouth closed and read some more books- which was what I was doing right now.

I happened to look up in time for Katherine to come back into the living room with the same outfit that she's been stuck with- along with me. I've tried to change into something else, but the only things here are Klaus' and Alaric's clothing and I rather not changing into either. So I kept what Katherine changed me into the first day I got here and didn't complain. It could be worse, I could be still in that dress.

"Look who's dumb enough to come back." Katherine said as the front door opened. I looked up to see Alaric and Damon at the door. I dog-tagged my page that I was on and stood up from the couch in the corner. I have missed everyone at home, and this was the only time I actually got to see someone from my regular group of friends. The last person I saw was Alaric, but he was out cold before they literally threw him out of his own apartment.

"Well, somebody had to invite him in." Alaric looked at Katherine before quickly giving me a glance over, making sure I was okay, I'm sure. "Damon, would you like to, uh, come in?" Ric waved his hand in front of him allowing Damon into his apartment.

"Are you trying to get me killed?" Katherine snarled at Damon once he was finally inside the apartment.

"I gave you vervain, now I'm here to collect that from you." Damon looked over his shoulder, "I got it from here, Ric."

"You sure?" Alaric asked glancing over at the older vampire in the room.

Damon nodded his head, "Yeah, only one of us needs to get blamed for this. Get back to the house. Try to keep Elena from handing herself over."

Alaric nodded his head, "Alright." He agreed before turning around and leaving us three alone in the apartment.

"How you doing, Annie?" Damon looked over at me, giving me a once over. I shrugged my shoulders but before I could answer him fully, Katherine cut me off.

"Get blamed for what?" She asked narrowing her eyes in suspicion.

"I need to know where Klaus is keeping his werewolf." Damon said looking over at his ex-lover.

"Why? What are you going to do?" I asked looking at him, trying to figure out his plan that he had in his head.

"Dead werewolf equals no ritual." Damon smirked like his plan was the best ever.

"Damon, you'll get yourself killed!" I shook my head at his idiotic plan. If he tries to mess with Klaus' plan, Klaus will not only kill him but everyone that we know.

"You can't interfere, Damon." Katherine agreed with me- which was weird. "Klaus will kill you and everyone you have ever met and cared about."

Damon shrugged lightly, "I just need to delay this thing."

"No, no way." Katherine shook her head. For once since I've known Katherine, I actually agreed with her. She's probably just looking out for herself because she's a value to Klaus right now but he could easily kill her if he wanted to, but I was looking out for Damon and everyone else that we know. He would easily go on a killing spree if his plan was ruined.

"You should like this." Damon said looking over at Katherine. "It's going to buy another month of your pathetic life."

"Right, except that I'm not the vampire he's planning on sacrificing tonight." Katherine smirked.

"What?" This was news to me.

"Yeah," She shrugged. "He's got Caroline Forbes and Tyler Lockwood, the vampire and the werewolf he needs. Therefore, I'm in the clear." She smirked and I looked at her with a shocked expression.

"And where'd he get that idea from?" Damon asked stepping closer to Katherine in an almost threatening way.

"Hey! Hey, hey, hey, I'm just trying to stay alive long enough to get myself out of here." Katherine tried defending herself, but I was too busy worrying about my friends to really care about their conversation.

It was true that I was not as close to either one of them as Elena was, but they were still my friend, I still cared about them a lot. I watched them grow up, I couldn't let them die.

Damon sighed loudly as he started getting annoyed with Katherine's antics, "What if I told you Elena had vampire blood in her system?"

"What!" I looked over at Damon and he looked back at me with a sheepish expression. "Damon, how could you let this happen?"

"Long story, short stuff." Damon patted my head lightly and I swatted his hand away with a sneer. He turned back to Katherine with a smirk, "Imagine how much fun that will be competing with Elena for Stefan's love for- I don't know- forever." We both knew that we got Katherine right were Damon wanted her. He had her attention because he used the Stefan trick on her.

"The tomb." Katherine finally said with clenched teeth. "He's got them in the tomb."

"Thank you." Damon smirked at Katherine with a wink, before giving me a small hug. "Stay alive for me, Annie, I'll come back for you." He left with one more smirk before closing the door behind him.

I sighed as Katherine and I were alone once more before going back to my book.

"Is that all you're going to do for the rest of the day?" Katherine asked with a tired tone. I didn't bother looking up to see what her expression was going to be. "You could possibly die tonight and you're going to spend the day reading?"

"I have nothing better to do, Kitty." I almost gave a smirk when I heard Katherine snarl at my nickname for her.

"I told you not to call me that ever again." She growled over at me.

I flipped the page of my book while I gave Katherine a small shrug, "I'll let you know when I care."

This time I did let my smirk show when I heard Katherine's annoyed scream.

I looked out of the bedroom as I heard the front door shut, I can only guess that it was Klaus coming back from wherever he's been.

"Everything okay?" I asked leaning against the doorway. I didn't really want to care, but something inside me wanted me to ask him if he was okay.

He ignored my question as he looked passed me and to Katherine who was making coffee. "What have you been doing?" He asked and I can only imagine he had an idea of what's wrong.

"Making coffee." Katherine answered easily. "Do you want some?" She held out a cup but the cup was completely forgotten when Klaus grabbed her by the throat and lifted her off the ground.

"Tell me what you've been doing." Klaus complied her using a low tone voice.

"Making coffee." Katherine was able to spit out in a monotone voice before Klaus let go of her throat and she took a deep breath of fresh air.

"Wait." He said before Katherine could walk away from him. "Take off your bracelet." Klaus said holding his hand out for her daylight bracelet. Katherine, still playing the part of being complied, took off her bracelet and placed it in Klaus' waiting hands. "Now, I want you... to walk over to the window and stand in the sunlight."

"But she'll burn." I spoke up looking between Klaus and Katherine.

"She doesn't have a choice." Klaus' dark half smirk looked over at me and I looked away from his dark eyes. I couldn't stand to look at him when he had this killer intent written all over his face.

I wasn't looking but I could definitely hear Katherine's screams as she stood in the sunlight, burning. It lasted about 30 seconds but it felt a lot longer, before Klaus finally spoke up, "Alright, that's enough."

Katherine stepped out of the sunlight as quickly as she could before crouching in the corner, trying her best to stay out of the sunlight as it was surrounding her.

Klaus knelled down in front of her as he handed her back her daylight bracelet, "Guess I was wrong. Alright, then." He smirked down at her. "I need you to do something for me."

"What is it?" Katherine asked warily. I didn't blame her for acting the way she was. He just made her stand out in front of the sun, he could really make her do anything because she had to go along with being complied.

"I need you to call someone and play a little trip on them." I glanced between Klaus and Katherine as Klaus explained what he needed her to do in a very low voice, too quiet for me to be able to hear. But I did get nervous once Katherine kept looking over at me every few moments or so. Finally Katherine nodded her head and went into the other room.

I looked back at Klaus with an anxious expression. I wasn't quite sure that I liked the looks that I kept getting from Katherine and I know that I didn't like the fact that they were being very quiet, almost like they definitely didn't want me to hear.

"What's she going to do?" I asked looking back at the closed door.

Klaus smirked down at me from his 5'11 frame. "Just a little favor for me, darlin', don't need to worry about it." I didn't believe him for one second. "I'm off to do a few more chores before tonight. I'll see you later." He gave me a jaw-dropping smile before rushing out the door before I could get another word out.

Katherine came out of the bedroom and placed the phone on the table. She didn't say anything when I walked over and checked the recent calls, and she didn't say anything when she heard my sharp gasp when I saw Jenna's number logged into the recent calls. She just walked back over to the kitchen and poured herself another glass of bourbon.

I never asked Katherine why she called my aunt, I didn't want to find out. Ignorance was bliss after all. I just wanted to pretend that none of this was actually happening right now. But once Klaus came back into the apartment at exactly 8 o'clock, I knew it was time to pick up my sister for the ritual.

"Are you ready, my love?" Klaus asked holding out his arm for me to take. I didn't answer him, nor did I take his arm. I just kept walking passed him before stopping and looking over my shoulder at his shocked expression.

"Well, are you going or not?" I asked waiting for Klaus to catch up. He looked down at me with a evil smirk before grabbing me and running. I was never the best one to deal with speed so when the chance came, I closed my eyes and leaned my head down into his shoulder blade since I was now on his back.

I didn't want to admit that I liked the closeness of our bodies, but I shook that thought out of my head as soon as it came in. I just blamed it on the fact that I haven't been with anyone for a while. I'm just lonely.

Wrong.

I looked up when I felt us stop moving. I quickly jumped off his back, still trying to erase the memories of the forbidden thoughts that came into my head about how nice he must be in bed. I looked up to see the Salvatore Boarding house just in front of us- so I was right about having to pick up Elena.

I looked down at the driveway when I heard car doors closing. I sighed as I saw my sister and Stefan, they were so good together, but they had so much drama going on around them right now. It must be hard for them to actually have time to themselves.

I felt myself being picked up and placed down onto the ground again before I noticed that we were even moving. I looked up at Elena and Stefan as they turned around once Klaus spoke out, "You got me all nervous. I thought maybe you'd done something stupid." He smirked- probably thinking about what he would have done if she had. "You ready, my dear?"

Elena gave me a once over, like Alaric did early but took longer to make sure that I looked okay. She gave me a questioning look but I just shook my head at her- I wasn't hurt, just scared and nervous about what was going to happen tonight.

"I'm ready." Elena nodded her head finally before she started to make her way over to us.

Stefan grabbed her arm as he placed her behind him, "No." He shook his head over at Klaus.

"I wouldn't." Klaus tsked. "No reason for you to die, too."

Elena stepped in front of Stefan and tried to get him to look at her, but he was too busy glaring at Klaus. "No, Stefan. Hey, hey, it's fine." Elena nodded, "I'll go. No one needs to get hurt. There's no reason for you to get hurt." She finalized before she kissed him quickly, "I love you."

"I love you."

"Close your eyes." Elena suggested and I looked away at the sad moment. "Close your eyes." She said even quieter. Before I knew it, I felt Klaus' arm around my waist and we were moving again. I closed my eyes, and hoped that the movement would be over soon.

"Where are we going?" I asked looking around, but I couldn't see 2 feet in front of me. Klaus handed us over to one of his witches, Greta, before taking off again. I didn't pay attention to what he was saying, I just needed this whole thing to be over with.

"This way." Greta ordered as she lead us through the dark woods. I glanced over at Elena and she had a stone face on. I give her credit, she was the one that was 'dying' tonight and she looked more confident coming into this than I did.

"You're Luka's sister, aren't you?" Elena asked, even though she already knew the answer to the question. "I heard about you. He and you father were looking for you."

"Well, they were wasting their time." Greta snapped, not looking back at us. "I wasn't lost."

"God, I can't see anything." Elena whispered over to me before we both fell onto the ground. I looked around us as Greta lite up the field. I saw Elena about 10 feet to my left, and there was another body 10 feet to my right. I was afraid of already knowing who that body belonged to.

"Jenna?" Elena exclaimed loudly as she ran over to our aunt. I followed suit, quickly checking for a pulse even though I knew there wasn't going to be one to find.

"There isn't a pulse." I said quietly not daring to look into Elena's tearing eyes.

"Jenna can't be dead, she can't." Elena shook her head as she grabbed onto my arm for support. "He killed her? Why?" She looked over at Greta, "I did everything that he asked!"

"She's not dead." Greta smirked, "She's in transition."

I apologized in my story ADITO, but I'll apologize on here too: I'm sorry this chapter sucks and it's really short, and I'm sorry that I suck. I have no excuse about not writing, I just have been lazy and I literally have been feeling up to writing. But like I said in my last author's note, I'm going to try to write more. I can't guarantee that it'll be every week, it might be every month. But I will try to get these chapters out. I miss writing, it gives me something to do.

So again, I'm sorry I'm a shitty person, but I still want to hear what you guys think about this chapter. I hope you guys like it, the next chapter will be better, I promise.

Much love,
Swim-
