Frigga knew what she was doing was wrong, but she couldn't help herself. She needed to see the young woman who enchanted her son's heart. The night before Frigga had a vision of the two in the garden and she knew it was her responsibility to ensure that this vision came true. She wasn't happy that she had to be the one to do this, because she knew that her son would be very angry with her. But she was willing to take his anger if it got him where she knew he needed to be.
It wasn't hard to find Adisa, Frigga had to simply ask a maid if they knew anything about the girl and she told her about how Adisa always sat in the same garden every day. The garden was so small, and tucked away that the queen was sure that not many people went to visit it. She herself had only been in it once before, many years ago.
It was truly a wonder how no one had noticed Loki sitting with her, but then again Frigga believed he placed some kind of illusion around them to ensure that they wouldn't be seen by normal eyes. Clutching her hands tightly in her lap Frigga stepped into the garden and silently tip toed around a large plant to peek at the young maiden.
Adisa was sitting underneath a tree, her eyes blindly looking off into the distance. She was clearly in thought, and her head was slightly tilted to the side as she listened to the water fountain (or so Frigga thought). Someone had taken her blonde hair and tied it back in a quick braid which did nothing for her beauty. Adisa's dress was a simple brown that gave her little shape. The dress was too small for her, and she was sure that someone else had owned it at one point, because someone had lazily hemmed the bottom of the dress up.
Brown was not her colour because typically brown was used for the servants. The idea of her being dressed so poorly made the Queen frown. It was very clear to Frigga that her parents dressed her as such because she couldn't see herself. If she was able to see herself there was no way that she would walk in public dressed as such.
It suddenly occurred to her that she had never seen the young woman at parties, but she had seen her mother and father. Then on very rare occasions a woman who looked oddly similar, the Queen could safely guess that the woman was her sister. There was a brief moment of doubt in her mind that her parents truly loved her, but she could see how they would want to hide her away. Her 'story' was well known after all. The girl blinded because of her ugliness.
"It's quite rude to gander from afar." Adisa chimed, there was a clear look of irritation on her face and Frigga could feel her heart beating quickly in her chest. She was indeed impressed that the girl knew she was there, but at the same time it startled her because she hadn't expected it. A wide smile spread on her lips and she walked out behind the bush to walk towards Adisa.
An overwhelming urge to gather the young woman up in a motherly hug bubbled in her chest. This woman had single handily changed her son for the better.
"You're right, it was rude of me." She said softly standing a few feet away from the young girl. Frigga could now see her more clearly, and could see the soft beauty the girl held, even if she had a frown on her face. Her body was stiff as if she were to fall over at any second. As much as Frigga would like to say she could see why her son liked her, she couldn't. She really had no idea what Loki saw in her, but then again recently she didn't really understand her son as much as she thought she did.
"You're a very pretty girl." Frigga said peering down at Adisa, the complement stunned the young girl and her eyebrows scrunched up in confusion. No one had told her she was pretty before; people seemed to think such things didn't matter to her.
"Those kind of things don't….mean anything to me." Adisa said slowly her face relaxing, it was very clear to both women that they did matter to her a little bit. Adisa would often wonder what she looked like, and even what other people looked like. Sometimes she would wonder if people thought she was pretty but she didn't dare ask.
"Those kind of things, matter to every girl." Frigga said softly, a flutter of wings pulled distracted Frigga, there was a brief moment of fear that ruptured through her chest and she almost jumped forward to scoop the bird up. Her mind spun, and she had to stop herself from running from the garden to scold Loki.
How could he be so careless?
"Loki will not be happy to hear you visited me." Adisa said, the crow that Frigga was watching so carefully hopped up on Adisa's lap and gave the queen an odd calculated look. Trying to compose herself Frigga swallowed harshly.
"You speak as if you know who I am." Frigga said softly, the slight jerk of Adisa's body told her everything she needed to know. Adisa knew who she was the moment she walked into the garden.
"I do… I've been expecting you for some time." Adisa said softly, the bird nipped at her fingers his eyes watching Frigga carefully. Bran's little heart was beating furiously in his chest; he knew what the queen was thinking and he was afraid.
"Then you know we have much to talk about." Frigga smiled watching the young girl smile awkwardly. Adisa was afraid of what the woman had to say to her, because people didn't often speak to her and she worried what the queen would have to say. Fear that she would tell her to stay away from Loki took hold of her heart and she found it hard to breathe.
A soft rustle of clothing was heard from beside Adisa and the Queen silently sat down beside her, and in some attempt to calm Adisa down she took hold of her small hands gently holding them much like she use to do with her sons when they were small children.
"Are you aware that my Son is in love with you?" Frigga asked, knowing that the question was indeed a shock to her. Adisa of course did not know that Loki loved her, because she believed that it was impossible for anyone to love a blind girl. Adisa shook her head no, her cheeks flaring red. Her heart begun to race, and she could feel tears starting to burn in the corner of her eyes. Adisa wanted to believe what the Queen was saying, but she was afraid it was a cruel trick.
"I can tell that you love him very much, Loki is very lucky to have someone to care about him as much as you do." Frigga continued, watching the girl carefully. Adisa quickly wiped tears away from the side of her face, nodding her head. Adisa now in her own world of emotion, didn't see the turmoil that the Queen was going through.
Frigga's heart ached, but in order to make sure her vision came true she had to tell the young girl. Taking in a deep breath of air, Frigga prepared herself for what possibly could happen. This was unfortunately the part of her vision that she didn't see. Some people saw what could be described as a short movie, and others like herself only saw flashes of bits a pieces of what would happen.
"Adisa, you must know something about Loki. Something I'm afraid we should have told him when he was very little. Loki of course has yet to come to terms with it, but I think with you that maybe one day he will." The Queen paused thinking of how she could possibly word what she was going to say without making it sound completely horrible.
"Loki is not of Asgard, Loki is of Jotunheim." Frigga admitted her eyes wondering to the small water fountain in front of them. Now that Frigga was sitting in this garden she realized that it really needed some upkeep. The water fountain was chipped and falling apart, knowing this she made a mental note to have it replaced.
"But frost giants are of Jotunheim." Adisa chimed softly not fully understanding what she was being told. The Queen softly patted Adisa's hand encouraging her to make the connection herself. Her face was scrunched and jerking her head in thought she asked.
"Is Loki a…" Adisa pondered before the Queen cut her off.
"A frost giant." Friggia finished, Adisa's face scrunched up more. Adisa pulled her hand away from the Queen and placed it back in her lap and gently leaned away from her as if she were offended.
"Loki could be anything and it wouldn't change the fact that he saved my life, and he is the only one in Asgaurd who has shown me kindness." Both of the women knew at that moment the conversation was over. Adisa would not allow the Queen to sway what she thought of Loki and it was clear by the way her body stiffened.
"That is what I wished you would say." Frigga softly said, standing up from beside Adisa and walking out of the garden a large smile plastered on her face.
Loki hadn't meant to startle her, and it was indeed odd for him to see her jump. He muttered out a sorry before laying down beside her a book in his hands. The bird watched him curiously from a branch before hopping off to chase down a butterfly that fluttered by.
"Your mother came to see me." Adisa said softly, hoping that Loki wouldn't hear her. He of course did and his eyes snapped open to peer at her. She was chewing on the corner of her lip, and nervously playing with her hands. She knew Loki was angry, so when he sat up a frown etched on his face she wasn't surprised at all.
"What did she want?" he asked, his anger bubbling quickly. His family had been spying on him, he knew he couldn't trust them and his mother talking to Adisa proved that to him. Clenching his fists he waited for Adisa to continue.
"To talk." She said softly, it was clear that she didn't want to continue this conversation in fear of upsetting him further, but Loki wasn't going to allow her not to finish what she had started. He needed to know everything.
"About what? About how I'm a monster?" he snapped watching her face. She wasn't shocked by his outburst, so he knew that his mother had spoken of his true heritage. He could feel the uncontrolled rage bubbling in his stomach.
"That doesn't matter." She said trying to calm him down. He couldn't see clearly anymore, he felt more hurt than ever. His mother may have possibly ruined his relationship with Adisa and he had realised over the few months that they had spent together that he couldn't be happy without her in his life.
"You're wrong! It does matter! She had no right to tell you! That was my responsibility." Loki grimaced, he wanted to break something. He could feel his emotions tearing him apart. Standing up he shot his hand out in front of him, and with what little magic he possessed smashed the water fountain in front of them. Water splashed out everywhere, splattering the couple sitting in the grass.
"Loki." She murmured softly pulling him from his rage. He turned to look at her, she was blindly holding her hand out for him to grab. He hadn't realized he was crying until she pulling him into his chest holding him tenderly, and running her fingers through his hair. She made him feel safe, and as if nothing in the world mattered but them.
"She also said you are in love with me." He hurt so badly, his mother had the best intentions but he felt as if she had betrayed him. His stomach twisted even more when he heard Adisa speak, he had only recently come to the realization himself. He was still fighting with the idea of him being able to love anyone, but he couldn't explain it as anything else. It was unlike him to spend hours working towards making someone happy. He lost sleep over Adisa and he never once complained about the hours he lost reading about cures for blindness.
He could easily lie to Adisa, tell her that his mother was wrong. But he knew that it would be a poorly told lie when he was wrapped in her arms like a lover. He couldn't form the words with his mouth, so he simply nodded his head. There was a small laughter from her lips, and she tightened her embrace around him. He wasn't sure what this meant until she admitted "Me too."
The joy that flooded his body was indeed overwhelming. He wanted to confess many things to her at that moment, as well as embrace her, press his lips to hers but he chose to remain silent and enjoy the feelings the bubbled in his chest.
