Chapter 7
Jay's Point of View
I had just managed to get Erin to rest and to stop worrying about Alex and asking about Jay J when the nurse told me I would have to leave. Erin was still wrapped in my arms as she slept.
"Ok." I whispered to the nurse who was glaring at me for not moving fast enough.
I gently slid Erin off me as I tried not to disturb her.
"What? What's wrong? Is it Bunny?" She mumbled as she jumped awake.
Silently cursing myself for waking her I turned around to look at her.
"Erin relax your supposed to be taking things easy. Nothing is wrong, there is no word on Bunny's condition she is still in surgery and Alex is fine just like I told you earlier. I have to leave because visiting is over but I will be back tomorrow morning with Jay J." I assured her.
"Oh ok, well I can I at least see Alex?" She questioned.
I looked at the nurse who by this stage was furious looking.
"I can take you to see her but I am afraid you will have to leave Mr Halstead." The nurse explained.
"Ok well I will go, give Als a hug for me. I have to meet Voight anyway." I told Erin as I gave her a quick kiss before heading towards the door.
"Jay?" Erin called.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Don't do anything you will regret?" She said.
I nodded in understanding before leaving silently. Of course I knew what she was referring to, but like Voight said 'nobody messes with my family.'
Erin's Point of View
Once Jay was gone the nurse wheeled in a chair for me to go and see Alex.
"Is that necessary?" I sighed.
"Yes. So either sit your ass in it or don't go see your daughter. Your call?" The nurse laughed.
"Fine I will sit my ass in it." I smirked.
A short walk up the corridor and we arrived at Alex's door.
"I will let you go in alone." The nurse said as she pushed the door open for me.
As soon as the door closed I ditched the wheelchair and walked towards a sleeping Alex. She looked better than she had in days and I felt relief wash over me as I finally saw with my own eyes that she was unharmed. The last time I was with her I thought she had been shot and there was nothing I could do to protect her. It was like a dream seeing her sleeping peacefully. I gently reached over to move her hair from her face but as I touched her forehead she jumped awake.
"Jesus!" She yelped.
"No just mom." I joked as she realised who it was.
Breathing a sigh of relief and smiling up at me she started to laugh.
"I knew I couldn't be that lucky." She smirked.
I laughed in response as I threw my arms around her and climbed onto the bed. I felt Alex put her arms around me as she rested her head on my shoulder.
"I was worried you know? That they where lying to me. How come it took you so long to come and see me?" She whispered sounding like a little kid.
"I'm sorry Als they told me your were resting and that I couldn't see you until later. Jay kept saying you were fine but I didn't believe him. I thought you were shot and it was my worst nightmare." I replied as I ran my fingers through her hair.
"I was shot, well shot at. Bunny saved me, did you…..have you heard if she is ok?" Alex asked.
"Honestly honey I haven't heard a thing and I know this is awful and I feel terrible for saying it but I was so worried about you, Jay J and the baby I didn't think about her." I replied.
Alex slowly broke free from my arms as she sat up to look at me clearly.
"Mom I'm fine stop being so worried. Were safe Neal can't get to us anymore." She smiled.
"Alex when you have your baby you can tell me to stop worrying. Cause kid see when you do, you will know exactly how I feel. The worry is always there about you kids, especially when you have one like mine who is prone to danger!" I said.
Alex rolled her eyes and got back into her original position with her head on my shoulder.
"I love you, you know? All I ever wanted as a kid was this. Finding you is the best thing that has ever happened in my life!" She whispered as a huge yawned escaped her lips.
Tears filled my eyes as I tightened my grip on her.
"I love you to Alex you have helped me find my family and allowed me to be part of your life. I couldn't wish for more." I replied.
However I got no response from Alex and as I peeked over her head to see why I noticed she had fallen asleep. I couldn't help but smile as I realised I was in for a long night, but there was no other way I would like to spend it except maybe with the boys there with us!
Two maybe three hours later (I wasn't sure because I had fallen asleep) I heard a ringing. I slowly opened my eyes to see it was Alex's phone. Dead to the world she didn't hear a thing so I picked it up and answered.
"Jay?" I answered after reading the Caller ID.
"Erin why didn't you answer you phone?" a nervous Jay replied.
"I'm in Alex's room. Are you ok?" I asked concerned.
"Um….." He trailed off.
"Jay." I said.
"Erin I think we did the wrong thing." Was his shaky response…
Until next time ;-)
