Chapter 7. Showstopper

"Well, this is rather awkward." Misty muttered as she took a sip of her latte.

"Yeah, why am I here?" Ash mumbled to himself.

"You were the one who went through the snowstorm to come see me, remember?"

"It wasn't my idea."

"Then whose idea was it?"

"Brrooooooooooockkkkkk…"

"Oh come on you two, just make up already!" Brock waved impatiently, clearly having had enough of these two dancing around one another for years.

"What's there to make up about?"

"Yeah, we aren't angry at one another!"

"You two are seriously giving me grey hair…."The oldest of the trio took a deep breath," Misty, Ash is angry with you because you are apparently dating Gary whom he hates and whom you didn't tell him about. Ash, Misty is angry at you because you never showed that you care about her and that she doesn't feel valued as your friend. There, have I missed anything?"

"Ash," Misty rolled her eyes," I would never date Gary, are you kidding me? He and my sister are getting married. Get your facts straight."

"How was I supposed to know?" Ash stared into his water," You two seemed awfully cozy in that news report."

"We were discussing how to surprise Lily with the proposal!" The redhead exclaimed," We are practically brothers and sisters now...and in a few weeks, we will be brothers and sisters literally!"

"So if you weren't going to become sisters and brothers, you would go out with him!"

"That's not what I'm saying!"

"That's sure what it sounds like."

"Ash," Misty looked at him seriously," I have someone that I like and Gary cannot even compare to that person because they aren't on the same level."

Ash swallowed an invisible lump in his throat," Oh wow…who's the…um…"He took a gulp of his water," Who's the um lucky guy?"

A blush crept its way up Misty's face and she flipped her hair over her shoulder," I'm not telling you, you idiot! Anyways! I have to go now. I have an event to prepare for tonight." She grabbed her bag from the ground and stood up.

"Is it a date?" Ash asked, lowering his head until his baseball cap covered his face," Are you going on a date?"

Misty stopped mid-turn and turned back. To everyone's surprise, she reached out to pinch Ash's face," You idiot. You and I have a date tonight at seven. Watch Channel 34!" And with that, she ran out of the café.

"There is something weird happening," Brock whispered to Pikachu, "And I don't quite know what to make of it."

"Pi ka chu." Pikachu agreed, nodding slowly as she tried to make sense of what just happened.

"Come on, Ash. Do you want to watch some TV?" Brock gently tapped his best friend's shoulder, "You haven't moved since you came back from our meeting with Misty. Are you okay?"

"I'm great." Ash dug his face deeper into the pillow. What does she mean by she likes someone? Who could that possibly be? Well there is Rudy, but that was over a long time ago, right?

"Are you sure?"

There was no reply.

Sighing, he settled down on his own bed and Pikachu jumped onto his stomach.

"Well, I guess it's the two of us tonight then," Brock smiled and patted the yellow creature on her head," What do you say we watch some TV?"

Pikachu happily nudged the remote control towards Brock who flipped it open to Channel 7.

"Best fishing rods for catching Staryu, Nope; TV shopping, nope; weather channel, nope; Nurse Joy!" Brock sat up, earning a sharp jolt from Pikachu," Oh right, sorry! Change channel!"

Yeah baby you are a real showstopper

Don't you know you are one big heartbreaker

You let me have my bike have my way have my life

But all I ever needed was you

Yeah baby you are one showstopper

You smile and every cell of mine goes wild

I'm losing control over everything I have

But I'm willing to hand it all over to you

Then dancing to the choreography, Misty whispered out to the cheering crowd:

I've been waiting for too long

Too long for this to go on

Tell me I haven't made a mistake

Mr. Champion-wannabe don't you let me go…

"Um…Ash, you might want to look at this." Brock stared at the TV screen.

"Pika pika!" Pikachu jumped over to her owner's bed. When he didn't budge, she let out a thunderbolt to wake him up.

"Ow, Pikachu! What did you do that for?!" Ash hollered, finally sitting up in his sheets.

"Ash, look! That's our Misty!" Brock pointed at the TV.

And like Brock, he only stared.

"That's…that's Misty?" He couldn't believe his eyes. This girl on screen in tight black leather pants and moto jacket couldn't be the same girl he just saw that very afternoon. She was in a plain t-shirt and mom jeans! Mom jeans! What happened to her white canvas? When did she trade them for those sleek-looking boots? And what did she do to her hair? How is it blowing perfectly away from her face as she wrapped her hands around the microphone?

" -wannabe don't let me go…" The camera focused in on a very happy Misty with beads of sweat and ragged breath from dancing.

"Who's -wannabe?" Ash demanded and turned to Brock," Who is this person?"

Brock stared long and hard at his friend for a bit and slowly said," I don't know, man, but have you thought it might be you?"

"Me?"

Misty…likes…me?

That can't be right…

Right?

I love the concept of a rockstar Misty and I wanted to play with that a little bit, hence the Misty in this chapter is a bit…edgy? And Ash's pretty dense, eh? Haha that's our favorite idiot 3
