3rd p.o.v.

"I thought I would find you here…"

Jasper turned his head, behind him stood Edward. They were standing on a big pile of rocks overlooking an open space in the forest. Jasper had come here to clear is mind or rather to think about everything that had happened the last few days. Alice announcing right out of the blue that his supposed mate would make an appearance soon.

Flashback - a few days ago.

Jasper p.o.v.

I looked at my beautiful mate. Her eyes staring into the distance and her overall demeanour all tensed up. She was having a vision. Then she blinked her eyes and I knew the vision was over. But I didn't like the look on her face, more spcifically the look she was giving me. She seemed so sad and worried but also relieved? There wasn't a correct way to describe it and the moment she started to talk, I knew something had changed between us.

"This isn't funny, sweetheart." I'd replied after she told me my mate was on her way. "You are my mate." At this she had vigorously shaken her head.

"Not anymore. Yes, we chose each other as mates but now fate has finally given that which we want so badly."

"I don't believe you."

Alice was determined to make me understand and accept her words. Deep down I knew the truth, it was as with the Wolves. They imprinted on people and they had no control over it. For us it was like that, only it happened in a different way and much less vulgar in my opinion.

"You know what will happen if you meet her and ignore the bond." Alice said firmly.

"You can't make me accept it." I growled back.

"What about me, Jasper? You aren't the only one who is finally finding his mate."

Present day

Edward walked forward and stopped beside Jasper.

"I reckon you picked up my thoughts and followed them here." Jasper said calmly.

Edward grinned with a crooked smile. "Well, they were rather loud. Very easy to pick up. So what are you thinking?"

Jasper frowned not really understanding why his 'brother' didn't take the opportunity to read his mind. He knew he must have already, so Jasper did not fully understand what he was getting at.

"I'd prefer you tell me what's on your mind." Edward said having picked up on that latter thought.

"I'm not like you Edward…" Jasper sighed as he crouched down. A pregnant pause fell between the two men. It didn't takelong before Edward also sat down next to Jasper and patiently waited for him to say something.

After a couple of minutes Jasper finally gave in. "What did she think about my behaviour after I had left her in the room?"

"You were supposed to tell me how you feel, not ask me what Evelyn is thinking." Edward replied with a chuckle," Although I do know,-"

Jasper glared back at him and Edward raised his hand in defense. "She felt relieved as well as confused. Obviously her mind is all scrambled up at the moment." He quickly said whilst avoiding Jasper's intense stare. "I know what it is Alice saw in her vision. She showed me. But trying to make Evelyn see and accept all of this wasn't a smart move, if you ask me."

"I did not do such a thing." Jasper countered harshly but Edward cut him off.

"I know you didn't, but Alice did." He said. "Give her time. The fact that she already knew about vampires and that she has a gift, makes things a little easier for her to comprehend but not for accepting it."

Jasper sighed and lay down on his back. In all fairness she did not run away screaming when I approached her for the second time, though I did leave her in quite an inappropriate state.

"Remember how I was when I first met Bella?" Edward asked Jasper who, at this comment, rolled with his eyes.

"At first I was scared, mostly that I would tear her apart. As you know, I kept going back and forward between wanting her and leaving her, sometimes even killing her. I know how you all felt. You and Rosalie most of all. But after a few weeks of being around Bella and being able to control myself most of the time, I figured what the heck and I fell immensely in love with her...not just her blood."

Suddenly Edward's expression turned grim and Jasper sensed the intense emotion his brother was experiencing.

"When James nearly killed her and I had to save her from turning..., the taste of when that first drop of blood touched my lips and went down my throat," Edward shook his head in defeat.
"Almost Jasper…if it wasn't for Carlisle, I would have sucked her dry. After all that time of self control, I nearly lost it. I knew Bella didn't want to be a vampire, not yet and especially not thanks to someone as James."

Jasper nodded and Edward continued his story. "I couldn't bring it up to leave her…not after what we've been through, even after that moment. My love got stronger. I knew she was my mate. Not because of her blood that sings for me, but because of how I felt the moment I saw her walk into that classroom."

"Until I attacked her during her birthday party." Jasper reminded Edward and for a moment his youner brother's face turned grim.

"It was a wake up call." Edward admitted. "At that point I admit that leaving Forks altogether and never seeing Bella again seemed the safest solution."

"And then?"

"You know what happened and besides," Edward's worried look vanished, "Alice made sure I realised my future was with Bella, she protested often when I thought about leaving her. You will perish from denying the love meant for you." Edward said in his best 'Alice' voice.

"Selfishly I chose to go with love. That the possibility of me being able to kill her was nothing compared to breaking her heart into pieces." Edward sighed staring into the open field as the wind moved his hair.

Jasper shifted in his place and stared ahead. "You suggesting I should take a chance with this love?" Jasper asked him.

"A chance with this love?" Edward huffed at his brother's comment. "You need to listen to Alice. This is it, Jazz. You know that and not just because Alice saw it in her vision. She knew even longer before Evelyn ever arrived in Forks. She is your mate, Jasper!"

After Edward had spoken those words Jasper fell silent. Alice had told him more than once, even though he may not think he was worth it, Evelyn Swan was his fate.

Inside the Swan residence

It was no use. Evelyn kept repeating the same sentence over and over again. Bella was getting rather annoyed with her older cousin. So much that she hid her head beneath her pillow trying to drown out Evelyn's ongoing rant.

"This is insane."

Bella had enough and threw the pillow against Evelyn's head," You are driving me insane!"

That worked, she let herself fall backwards on Bella's bed and held the pillow closely to her chest. "Sorry, maybe I'm the one who is going insane here." She mumbled.

"Eve, listen, it's really not as bad. I mean look at me?" Bella said while pointing at herself. Evelyn took a moment to look at her cousin from head to toe.

"What's your point?"

Bella rolled her eyes. "Ha, ha, very funny. I'm still alive and happier then I've ever been. Edward and I belong together. My live would suck without him." She made a face. "No pun intended."

Evelyn groaned and turned on her side. "I know, I know, you and Edward are meant for each other. A vampire and his singer. If I hadn't known about vampires I probably would have sent you to an Asylum."

"Eve, I'm not just his singer, we're each other's mate. It's a powerful thing, it can't be broken...by anything."

"Except if he bites you." Evelyn retorted.

Bella sat up angrily. "That was uncalled for, Evelyn Swan." She paused for a second and started to roll up her sleeve. She showed Evelyn her arm and wrist. Evelyn could see the remains of a scar, it was shaped like a crescent moon.

Her eyes grew big. "You got bit?" Bella nodded. "Was it Edward?"

"No," Bella immediately answered before she could finish that sentence. "I was attacked by a different vampire. A vampire named James... One day I was out with the Cullen's and three vampires appeared. James, his mate Victoria and another man named Laurent. After a few words between them and Carlisle, they decided to leave and that's when James caught my scent."

Evelyn listened in silence while she traced the shape of the scar on Bella's arm with her fingers.

"Seeing Edward so protective of me, a human, made me an interesting object to James. He is a tracker, meaning he loves to hunt, its like a sport to him. The Cullens did their best to keep me safe and hidden from this vampire. But me and my stupid human instincts lead me directly into James's trap and that is when he took his chance." Bella paused for a second and lifted her legs onto the bed. "He broke my leg and he would have done a lot more but luckily Edward appeared and fought with James. James was quite skilled managed to throw Edward off and took the opportunity to bite me."

"How is this story going to convince me to think positive about vampires?" Evelyn asked Bella with a hint of sarcasm.

Bella glared at her, but continued. "The rest of the Cullens appeared and they attacked James, tore him to pieces and burned his body."
Evelyn flinched a bit. "Carlisle told Edward to suck the venom out of my body before it could spread. Remember how my blood is like a drug to Edward? He sucked the venom out of my body and even managed to stop in time so I wouldn't die."

Evelyn released Bella's arm and she rolled the sleeve back down.

"Because Edward loves you..." Evelyn concluded with a whisper. "How did it feel? The venom I mean."

Now it was Bella's turn to flinch. It wasn't really something she wanted to remember. "I'll be honest, it was awful. I only remember the heat and the pain. Edward told me most of what had happened after I had woken in hospital."

"Good grief, Bella..." Evelyn cursed. "You can't expect me to accept everything now, because of what happened to you."

"Eve, listen... Edward tried to leave me a few times last year, because he also thought that being with me would do more harm than good. wasn't safe for me. But that all backfired. It was more hurtful to be without each other than living in this kind of danger."

Evelyn looked at Bella and arched an eyebrow. "Is that way your eyes drift away towards the window every couple of seconds?"

At that comment Bella blushed heavily, hoping her older cousin hadn't noticed.

A few hours later

"Edward, where do you think you are going?" Jasper hissed from the shadows.

"I'm just going to check on Bella." He whispered back at his brother before sneaking off to Bella's bedroom window, which was of course always opened up for him.

"Right and I'll just wait right here..." Jasper said knowing Edward would be perfectly able to hear him.

Here Jasper was, standing in front of the Swan residence, knowing Evelyn was somewhere inside. He could smell her and luckily from this distance he could control himself much better than in close proximity. Though being this close was a risk alltogether and Jasper bit his lip for making this decision.

Edward was still inside Bella's room and frankly Jasper was getting quite agitated waiting here for him, but Jasper couldn't bring himself to leave either. In fact the house seemed to get closer or was it him who was getting closer? Jasper halted in front of one of the living room windows, where he had a perfect view of the couch and what was asleep on that couch. There she was, sleeping peacefully. Her lips a bit parted, her chest rising up and down...slowly, oh so slowly.
"Calm down, calm down!" Jasper told himself.

She appeared so carefree lying there on the couch with a colourful blanket covering her up. The moonlight gently stroked her face and hair, giving it a sparkling shine. She started to move, causing the blanket to shift and revealing her upper body. Jasper quickly averted his eyes and turned his back on the window.

"Jasper."

Edward had come back from Bella's room. His lopsided grin made Jasper feel as if he had been caught peeping into a girl's locker room. Which was probably exactly what it must have looked like.

"Let's go back home, Alice will know what Evelyn will think of your gift."

mmm, what kind of gift did he leave her? Let's review so you'll read it in the next chapter :D
