Hello, Lovelies! So, I apologize for not updating more. I also apologize for this not being a particularly long chapter. But I did try to pack some good bits in here for everyone. And with school being out, hopefully I can brainstorm more on my days off work. Who knows. Anyways, please leave me a review or feel free to message me and tell me what you liked/what you think is going to happen/etc. Also be sure to check out some of my other fics if you're interested!
"How is that even possible?" Aido asked as he stared at her. His head was reeling with the knowledge that there stood before him the Ancestress, the mother of his kind. He put a hand up to clutch at his head. "Are you sure you're not just crazy? This seems to be pretty far fetched, even for a pureblood." He looked in her eyes then and felt his face heat up as he realized he had been having inappropriate dreams about his own ancestor. Well, if it was good enough for the purebloods, right?
"How is it possible that a group of people who can drink blood and have phenomenal powers came from humans? If you want I can tell you about my human mother, but I don't know how else to show you that I am who I am." She then narrowed her eyes as she studied him. "But you must swear that you will never tell Kaname what I just told you."
"Why? Why would you tell me and not him?" Aido asked then, confused. "Doesn't he have the right to know that your own siblings slaughtered your family?"
Kai sighed softly, "Because if I told him, he would meet them head on like they want. Yakari may still love him, but Ryuu won't hesitate to kill him. If he dies then humanity is doomed." Kai looked at Aido. "That is why I can't tell him. I want to, trust me, I want nothing else than for this to all be over. Kaname deserves happiness like no other man I know. But until I can kill them, I can't be happy with him."
"If you don't think Kaname can stop them, what makes you think you can?" Aido asked. "And why are we heading towards the Hunters' Association." He paused for a moment before he looked at her. "Your heart. You said you didn't die because it was in the forge. And the hunters-"
"-Need to be warned of the upcoming war. I'm going to ask them to make more weapons. Then I am going to ask them to be on guard for more level E's. This started as a vendetta against me, Hanabusa, but it isn't just me they are after. My family… we looked down on humans. We thought we were better. Ryuu especially. He would want to enslave them and use them as a food source." Kai looked at him. "Right now the Academy is safe with Kaname there. The town is not."
"So why bring me along?" Aido asked, glancing sideways at her.
"Arm candy," Kai said simply. She then smiled. "You don't like me, but you're also smart. Even though you're loyal, you'll do the right thing. In short, I can trust you. And also because you're arm candy." She watched as he turned red and she leaned over, "Could it be that the famous 'Idol' on campus doesn't hate me as much as he claims?" She grinned.
"What? Who said I hated you!" Aido responded, jumping to look at her.
"I'm not stupid, you know," Kai told him. "I know you don't like me. I know you are loyal to Kaname and you hold me responsible for his pain. I don't blame you." She looked sad then, looking at him. "I will forever carry the burden of his pain with me. I have hurt him many times in our lives and what's more, I will likely hurt him many more. But you must understand, I cannot put my happiness before innocent lives. If I wound him but humanity is saved, then I will always make the same choice."
"And what if there was a different way?" Aido asked. "Or are you too afraid to try to do things differently because it would be harder?" He narrowed his eyes as he stepped forward. "It's easy to hide behind this 'oh so noble' cause crap you have going, but I'm not buying it all for one second. You say that you're doing this to save humanity and that's why you have to hurt him. Have you even tried bringing him in on this? You act like you know him and maybe you've known him for more years than any of the rest of us, but you certainly don't know him any better." He watched as her eyes widened and continued, filled with fire. "You toy with him like he's a moth drawn to your flame. He'll burn up by the time you're done with him. And you'll just move on to the next moth." He felt the ground grow cold around him and her eyes narrow. He should back down… "We're all just moths to you."
"Believe what you want, Hanabusa. I know what is true and what isn't. But I would suggest calming yourself," She heard a gun cock then. "We've got company and the last thing you'd want is for them to see an enraged aristocrat vampire, right?" She then let her eyes flash red as she leaned close to whisper. "Next time you talk down to me like that, I won't be so kind. Make no mistake of that." Her eyes returned to normal and she held up her hand, his ice evaporated now. "There's no need for guns, gentlemen. My friend and I come to offer aid."
"Aid? From two vampires? Do you think we're fucking stupid?" A man asked, a cigarette hanging from his mouth. "What are you supposedly here to help us with? What would require an aristocrat and a pureblood?" He held his gun still pointed at her.
"You know… in the past when I helped you make those guns, you lot were more grateful to me," Kai told him, nonplussed. "At any rate, you should know that there are two purebloods on the loose." She looked at them, "They've gone mad. I've already encountered an attack from a level E since I have arrived here. I trust the survivor has been recovering well under your watch?" She held up her hand to touch her cheek as she watched them.
"You're the one who dropped the girl off?" He stared at her.
"Yes. They had killed the man she had been with when we came across them. But, by all means, if you can't trust us," Kai stepped forward so that the gun was snugly against her chest as she stared the hunter down. "Pull the trigger."
"Namahito!" Aido shouted, his eyes wide as he watched her.
"By the way," Kai whispered as she leaned forward to stare at the hunter. "I would go for a headshot. Less of a chance for survival." She watched as he wavered before slowly letting the gun fall down to his side. She then reached forward quickly, yanking the cigarette from his mouth and stomping it.
"Hey! You little bitch-"
"Sorry, it's just that I detest smoking. I only allow so much and the quota for smoking hunter is already filled by Cross Academy's ethics professor, Yagari Toga. And believe me, you aren't nearly good looking enough to pull it off like him." Kai told him. She then stepped past, heading for the steps of the association. "Are you two going to keep staring at me or are we going to go inside and discuss what needs to be done to protect this town? I don't have all night."
"And why is that?" The hunter asked, frowning as he watched the blonde turn back to look at him. He saw her eyes flash red and his hand tightened on his gun.
"Because I have three nights to try to end this."
