"It´s Major Sheppard´s IDC." Gordin yelled as he turned his head towards Elisabeth´s office, he turned his head back as soon as he sees both women walking out of the office and towards the control room.

"They have only been gone a few hours." Amelia said, looking towards the gate the second she hears Sheppard´s voice over the intercom.

"Atlantis this is Sheppard. We are coming in hot!"

"Lower the shield." Elisabeth said as she and Amelia walked over to stand on the balcony so the could look down at the gate room, and the see a couple of marines running into the gate room with their weapons ready as the shield vanished.

a flash of bluish light came through the stargate and a marine jumped out of the way just as Sheppard, Teyla, Ford and McKay came running through the gate.

Amelia heard Elisabeth telling Grodin to shut the gate down and she was about to ask if the were okay when McKay turned his head just as another bluish flash came through the gate, hitting McKay right in the face, and landed face first onto the floor.

Amelia moved her finger to her earpiece."Medical team to the gate room."

A few hours later and Sheppard, Ford, Amelia and McKay were sitting around the conference room table and Amelia had annoyed look on her face as she watch McKay massage his foot.

"Could you please not do that here." Amelia asked.

"My foot it still numb. If you excuse me." McKay said as he kept on massaging his foot.

"At least your mouth works fine." Sheppard said as he looked back down at the deck of cards that was on laying on the table in front of him.

"All right, let get started." Elisabeth said as she walked into the conference room with Bates following after her and the doors closed behind them.

"Shouldn´t we wait for Teyla?" Ford asked as he looked towards the closes door.

"Teyla wasn´t invited." Elisabeth said as she pulled a chair out and sat down as she looked over at the group who where looking at her with a confused look on their faces to why Teyla was not invited.

"Then why is she here?" McKay asked with his finger pointing towards Amelia.

"Because she is a member of the senior staff and when i am not around i want her to act on my behalf." Elisabeth said as she looked from Amelia and towards McKay.

"Teyla is a member of my teams." Sheppard said as he leaned forward in his chair so he could lean his arms on the table.

"She is also an Athosian." Bates said.

"So?" Amelia asked not understanding what that had to do with anything.

Bates turned to Amelia with an irritated look on his face." If we have been compromised as indications suggest, it is almost certainly one of them is responsible." Bates said.

"We are talking about Teyla." Sheppard said as he turned to Elisabeth.

"I don´t like it either major..."

" get her in here." Sheppard said.

"But the safety of this base and it´s personal is my main concern right now. As they should be yours. all of yours." She said looking around the room.

"The wraith have showed on five of the nine planet your team has visited and given two of those planet were unpopulated, we can assume they have been alerted to your mission by someone on this base." Bates said.

"If that is so, then why hasn´t Atlantis been attack?" McKay said as he folded his arms across his chest as he leans back in his chair.

"Good point." Sheppard said as he pointing a finger over at McKay.

"Maybe we should stop using the stargate indefinitely." Bates said, looking towards Elisabeth.

"We can´t do that." Sheppard said.

"Why not?" Bates asked as he turned his head towards Sheppard.

"Because we need ZPM´s to power this place." Sheppard said.

"They seem to be running fine." Bates said.

"Okay, when the wraith do show up and the will, how do we defend ourselves?" Sheppard asked.

"This is the only stargate in the galaxy that can reach earth and we will have to use the self-destruct before the wraith take he city." Elisabeth said.

"Bottom line, we need to use the gate." Sheppard said.

"Or for that matter, get back to earth." Amelia said.

"Then we have to find out who´s responsible ASAP. We should start by confine all non-base personal to the south said of the complex." Bates said as he turned to Elisabeth.

"Are you kidding me." Amelia said angrily.

"That is the minimum." He said as he turned to Amelia." If colonel Sumner was still here..."

"He is not!" Sheppard said as Bates turned away from Amelia so he could look at Sheppard.

"I am." Sheppard told him.

"Yes, sir." Bates said with a serious look on his face.

"We are not going to start treating anyone like prisoners." Elisabeth said.

"That is good." Sheppard said with sarcasm.

"But steps should be taken to safeguard the more sensitive areas of this facility. It´only reasonable." Elisabeth said, hoping Sheppard would see it from her point of view.

"I say we have a no-go zone, starting with stargate operations. the labs, power generators and the jumper bay." Bates said as he looked towards Elisabeth.

"I would like to meet with every Athosian on this base. The have been here three months and i only know a handful by name." Elisabeth said as she looked around the room.

"I well set up the interviews when we are done here." Bates said.

"I am sure you would." Amelia said staring at him.

"In the meantime, all gate travels until further notice." Elisabeth said, pushing her chair away from the table and stood."That is all for now."

"Amelia."

"Yes." Amelia said as she turned to Elisabeth.

"I would like for you to be there when we do the interviews." Elisabeth said.

"Why?"

"My office." Elisabeth said as she turns around and walks out of the conference room and the other followed her out. Amelia followed after Elisabeth, but she stopped when she sees Sheppard standing in the gate room talking to Teyla who had a confused look on her face and the second Teyla looked up at her, she hurried towards Elisabeth´s office.

"What´s up?" She asked as she sat down on one of the chairs that stood in front of her desk.

"Did General O´Neill tell you why i asked for you to join this expedition?" Elisabeth asked her.

"No not really?"

"Beside Doctor Jackson. There is no one that knows more about the Ancients." Elisabeth said, leaning back on her chair." It´s because of you and Doctor Jackson that we found this city and because of your brave and selfless act in the fight against Anubis." Elisabeth paused before she continued." I want you to be my next in command."

"Sorry, what?" Amelia said not sure she had heard her right.

"I want you to learn to lead." Elisabeth said.

"I don´t want to lead anyone! Most days i can hardly take of myself."

"I have faith in you." Elisabeth said." Now back to the problem at hand."

"I am not doing it to them, haven´t they suffered enough?"

"Amelia you..."

"The only reason Bates is doing this is because he wants to show you..."

"Enough!" Elisabeth let a sigh fall from her lips." I know you and Bates have a issue with each other, but like i said this is about keeping everyone safe."

"Fine i do it." Amelia said as she stands." But i still don´t like it." She said as she walked out of her office.

Amelia was sitting on a chair inside the conference room and she didn´t like what was about to happening. The door opened and when Amelia sees Halling walking into the room, she sits upright in her chair.

"Halling, how is Jinto doing?" She asked as Halling pulls out a chair and sits down.

"Well enough for a boy confined to his living quarters." Halling said as he looked towards Elisabeth and Bates.

"I am sorry." Amelia said cause she really was sorry that things had to be this way.

"It´s temporary, but it is a necessary precaution." Elisabeth said.

"So i have heard." Halling said.

"Then i assume you know why we have arranged these meetings?" Bates said as he kept his eyes on Halling , but he could feel Amelia staring at him from the corner of his eyes.

"The same reason my people can´t go off-world or enter parts of the city." He said as he turns to Amelia." You no longer trust us."

"That is not true." Amelia said with a sad look on her face.

"The truth...We don´t know who to trust." Elisabeth said." Information about off-world excursions has obviously found it´s way to the wraith."

"Obviously?" Halling said with a raised eyebrow.

"They can´t be laying in wait everywhere. Tracking our movements and we need to find out how and your help would be greatly appreciated." Elisabeth tells him.

"Then by all means. How can i be of assistance." Halling tells Elisabeth.

"Thank you." Elisabeth said as she looks down at the file in front of her.

"Since you have been on Atlantis. You have been off-world three times?" Bates asked.

"I have been a guide for sergeant Stackhouse´s reconnaissance team, helping establish relations between your people and our former trading partners."

"Stackhouse reported he lost track of you on a couple of these outings." Elisabeth said.

"I did visit some close friends." Halling said.

"Interesting. Two of your visit predated wraith attacks by approximately a day." Bates said.

"What are you suggesting?" Amelia asked as she turned to Bates.

"I am not suggesting anything." Bates said as he looked away from Halling so he could look at Amelia who were looking at him with so much anger on her face.

"You think i would betray my own people? Jeopardize my son´s life?"

"Of course not." Amelia said as she turned back to Halling.

"No one is making accusations." Elisabeth said.

"I disagree." Halling said as he looked towards Elisabeth." You have concluded that an Athosian is responsible."

Bates snorted as he looked at Halling."Because it can´t possibly be one of our people." He said.

"No?" Halling asked as he turned to Bates with an eyebrow raised.

"We just need to clarify a few things." Elisabeth started to say when Halling interrupted her.

"Then allow me. I lost my closest friend in that wraith attack that forced us from our home world. Halling said as he looked between Bates and Elisabeth." Selana, the woman you spoke to, lost both of her parents. In face, you be hard pressed to find an Athosian how has not experienced loss at the hand of the wraith. These are the people you are accuse." Halling said.

"We are not accusing anyone." Elisabeth tried to explain.

"I came here expecting an interview." Halling said as he pushed his chair away from the table so he could stand." Not an interrogation." He said as he turned and walked out of the room.

"This is not right." Amelia said as she turned to Elisabeth.

"I know you don´t like this..."

"How asked you!" Amelia yelled as she turned to Bates." You had it in for Teyla and her people from the second we stepped foot on their planet and i don´t understand why?

"I don´t have anything against them." Bates said.

"Oh, really?" Amelia said with a laugh.

"If they are the reason the wraith has been..." Bates started to say.

"Enough, the both of you!" Elisabeth yelled as she looked between the two of them." I don´t know what happened between the two of you back on earth, but it´s end now! Am i making myself clear."

"Yes, ma´am." Bates said.

"Amelia."

"Fine." Amelia said as she and Bates stared at each other, willing the other to back down first.

"Good." Elisabeth said as she turned to the marine who stood by the door." Who is next?" She asked as the marine pushed the door open for them to see Teyla walking through the door.

"Teyla. I wasn´t expecting you." Elisabeth said with a smile.

"I was surprised to be left off your list." She said as she sat down on the chair and looked between the three of them.

"I didn´t feel it was necessary." Elisabeth said.

"On the contrary. You should have spoken to me first. I can tell you anything you want to know about my people." She said.

"Is it possible that you don´t know them as well as you think?" Bates asked her.

Teyla look over at Bates before turning back to Elisabeth."I empathize with you doctor Weir. As a leader, we often have to make difficult decisions in the interest of those we serve, but my fellow Athosians are not so understanding."

"I know. But there is nothing i can do about that now. People can suspect my motives for these meetings all the want. But you and i need to agree that we have a problem. I have to do what i can to solve it and right now that means talking to every single person her." Elisabeth said.

"You should know there is talk about leaving Atlantis." Teyla said as she looked towards Amelia.

"What? Amelia said not liking what she was hearing.

"I really hope it doesn´t come to that." Elisabeth said.

"Not all chance is for the worse." Teyla said as she stood with a smile on her face." Doctor Weir, Amelia." She said as she turned and walked out of the room.

"This sucks." Amelia said as she leans back in her chair with her arms folded across her chest.

Amelia had left the conference room cause she was in much need of a cup of coffee and she was walking back into the conference room in time to hear McKay asking someone how huge.

"15 million square miles. Well, give and take." She heard Sheppard voice saying just as she walked into the conference room, making all of the turned their attention to her.

"What is going on?" Amelia asked as she walked over to stand beside Elisabeth.

"They found land that would be the size of... i have no idea." McKay said, shaking his head as he looked over at Sheppard who had a smile on his face.

"How long would it take us to get there?" Elisabeth asked.

"25 minuets by jumper." Sheppard said as he pointed his finger at her."I saw some sweet breakers on the south side. There might be surfing in our future." He said.

"Surfing?" Amelia asked as she raised an eyebrow at him.

"What? I like surfing." He told her.

"We should get soil and water samples." Bates said as he turned to Elisabeth.

"Arable land would solve our food-production problems." McKay said.

"I was thinking of something else." Bates said.

"Not surfing?" Sheppard asked.

"You are kidding, right?" Amelia asked as she took a step towards Bates, but stopped when she felt a hand stopping her and she looked to the side to see Elisabeth, shaking her head.

"What is going on, here?" Sheppard asked as he waved his finger between Amelia and Bates.

"We can´t resume off-world mission while the Athosians remain in the city." Bates said as he turned to Sheppard.

"So you want to dump them of the main-land?" Sheppard asked.

"We are not sending them to die." Bates said.

"How would you know?" Amelia asked.

"It did look pretty wild down there." Ford said.

"A second ago, we were going surfing." Bates said getting annoyed with all of them. Could they not just see things from his point of view.

"That was after we check for monsters and bugs and other space-related things." Sheppard said.

"I can´t imagine it is worse than their home." Bates said.

"That may be failure of your imagination." Amelia said as she looked over at Bates.

"In any case. A survey would tell us what we need to know." Bates said as he looked over at Elisabeth.

"You seriously thinking about this?" Amelia asked as she sees the look that is on Elisabeth´s face.

"We are the reason they had to leave their planet in the first place." Sheppard told Elisabeth.

"This is complicated." Elisabeth said.

"What dose that mean?" Sheppard and Amelia asked.

"It means i am not about to rule anything out at this point." She said as she looked between them.

"Leading sucks." Amelia said as she looked over at Elisabeth cause she would understand what she was talking about.

She turned and walked out of the room cause she need to get away from Bates before she did something she would regret later on and on top of it all her hand was killing her.

"Amelia!" She heard Bates calling out for her.

"God, what now." She said as she stopped so she could turn to face him.

"What?"

"How dose it feels?" Bates asked with a smile on his face as he stopped right in front of her.

"How dose what feels?" She asked feeling confused.

"Not getting what you want, when you want it?"

"Ahh, i see." Amelia said as she looked down both hallways to make sure no one was around, and when she was sure they were alone she pushed him backward into the wall behind him, placing her cast arm against his throat.

"I am only going to say this once." Amelia said as she pressed the cast harder against his throat." I don´t need Daniel or Jack to protect me cause..." She yelp out in surprise when she was pushed backward.

"No cause you got the major for that now and it is making me..."

"What is going on here!?" The both heard Sheppard yelling.

"Saved by the bell." Bates said with a nasty smile on his face." This is not over." He told her as he turned and walked down the hallway.

"I would be disappointed if it was!" She yelled after him.

"Seriously, what is going on between the two of you?" Sheppard asked as he reach his hand out to stop Amelia from leaving." Amelia, talk to me."

"It is nothing i can´t handle." She said with a smile.

"You need to tell me if..." Whatever he was going to say was forgotten the second he felt her lips against his own.

"John, i can take care of this on my own." Amelia said as she placed a kiss on his lips before she turned and walked down the hallway, leaving Sheppard standing there wondering what had happened between the two of them.
