Hey, guys. It's been a while ^^'' and I apologize for that. It's now summer vacation for me, and even though I have a busy vacation ahead of me, I will still try my best to update! I'm planning to finish writing another chapter this week and thus hopefully updating weekly. I will try my best because I really want to stick with this story and develop it further. I don't like discontinuing things that I've started, so I will continue on with this story and finish it no matter how many reviews I get, how long it'll take me, and how much I will struggle with it aha :) Thank you those who continue to read this story. I know it's irritating to wait for my inconsistent and late updates, but I thank you anyways for bearing with me ^^ I really do try...
Danaya's POV:
I swiftly dodged all of Sargent's bullets, but one just barely whizzed past my ear. The sound of the bullet whizzing past rang in my ears as I ran towards Sargent with my sword. "Remember, Danaya. Control the sword so as to not injure Sargent. Once you can do that, you'll have full control over your sword!" Uncle Rhys called out.
"Uncle Rhys, I got this!" I shouted as he told me that over and over. Sargent dodged my oncoming attack as he ducked and slammed his gun into my left leg, making me collapse. I let out a noise as I plopped to the floor; however I counteracted by using my right leg to kick Sargent in the back of his knee, making him collapse as well. Once I got up, Sargent was already well on his way to getting up. I back-flipped away to give Sargent some space, and I started to shoot fire balls toward him. He dodged most of them and ended up failing to dodge the last one.
Uncle Rhys pointed out, "Sargent, never assume your opponent is finished attacking." Sargent let out a sigh of exasperation as he threw down his gun and got into a fighting stance. I smirked and threw down my sword, getting into a fighting position as well. *This will be interesting…Sargent doing hand to hand combat?* I decided to make the first move as I ran towards Sargent and threw a series of punches and kicks. The two of us were like lightning, each of us dodging and moving swiftly. Sargent got the upperhand as he curled one of his legs behind one of mine and sent me collapsing to the ground. Grabbing his gun before I could get back up, Sargent pointed it towards me and smirked.
I let out a grunt and shoved the gun out of my face. "What, Naya? Pissed I beat ya?" Sargent taunted. I scoffed and got up. I grabbed my sword and rested it on my left shoulder.
"Nah, just pissed that you almost ripped my skirt." I joked. Sargent scrunched up his face.
"What a girl." he muttered. In an instant, I pinned him onto the floor with his hands behind his back. He tried to resist, but I put him into a position where he couldn't escape.
"What'd you say? Say it again!" I demanded as I laughed haughtily. Sargent groaned and stopped resisting. Once he remained motionless, I grabbed his gun and thumped him on the head with it. He let out a small cry of pain as I got up and placed my hands on my hips. Taehyr and Alisa were cheering and clapping for me. Uncle Rhys and Xanxus simply chuckled at me torturing Sargent.
Iyana turned on the microphone, and we heard her laugh. "Don't insult Danaya unless you want to get hurt, baby. You know the results." I smiled proudly as Sargent shook his head and walked inside, probably to go to Iyana. I watched as Taehyr was being scolded by Uncle Rhys about her outfit. I laughed as Taehyr defended herself.
"DAD! I'M OKAY!" Taehyr exclaimed. Uncle Rhys rubbed his temples and quieted down, deciding that he had enough of teenagers for a day. I walked inside and decided I needed to take a short nap before we got to Mushroom Rock Road. If you're wondering about the new headquarters of the Youth League, well, Nooj had taken it upon himself to ask Lucil to be the leader of that headquarters. With honor, she accepted the offer and now resides there. I went to the Cabin and lied down on my bed. When I closed my eyes, I instantly fell asleep.
I was on Besaid Beach, and it seems like there was a party, judging from the sounds of happiness. It took me a while to realize that it was my fifteenth birthday, the day the fiend had kidnapped Mom, Dad, and Wakka. Nobody else was on the beach except for me. Then, I heard a maniacal laugh and turned around to see Malfonse. He shot me a smirk and began to choke me with two hands. I struggled against him, trying to reach for my sword. However, my sword was nowhere on its strap around my waist. Malfonse continued to laugh and choke me until I could feel my eyes slowly closing. My breaths were getting shallower as I failed to take in air. I was slowly dying…dying…
"!" I woke up and sat upright on the bed, gasping for air. I felt my forehead and found beads of sweat slowly pouring down. I swung my legs over to the side of my bed and looked underneath to see if my sword was there, and it was. My heart stopped racing as I tried to calm myself down.*It was just a dream…just a dream…* I reminded myself. I got up and put on my boots to go down. Pello wasn't at the counter, so he must have been sleeping. I got myself a glass of water and downed it in mere seconds after sitting on the stool. Ever since we killed Malfonse, I had been having frequent nightmares with Malfonse in them. I always hoped they would go away…
I heard a voice call out, "Danaya?" I turned my head and saw Taehyr walking towards me. I smiled and wiped the sweat off my forehead with my arm. "What's wrong? You look so pale." Taehyr asked.
"It's nothing." I answered. "I just had another one of those nightmares." Understanding what I was talking about, Taehyr just nodded and patted me on the shoulder. "I don't know, Tae…" I muttered as I placed my hands on both sides of my head and placed my elbows on top of the counter. "They all end with me almost dying…" I noted. Taehyr gave me a reassuring smile and hugged me.
"Danaya! I'm sure it's nothing. Don't worry, none of us will ever let you die." I mentally giggled at Taehyr's enthusiasm. She reminded me of me. "Anyways, Iyana told me to come get you because we're going to be landing soon. Everyone's preparing for anything right now, as there could be a random attack again." Taehyr explained as she grabbed some spare Hi-Potions from our storage and left to go to the elevator. I went upstairs and grabbed my sword, then walked over to the storage and placed some Hi-Potions and Remedies in my pouch. After taking a deep breath, I walked towards the elevator and made my way to the Bridge.
When I got there, everyone was already prepared to go. Iyana pulled the ramp out, and we all went down to go see Nooj and the Youth League members. The Youth League members were crowding around us right when we got off the airship. "Lady Danaya, I give you condolences." one man said to me as he took both of my hands in his. I gave him a small smile and nodded my head. Yaibal came up to us with his eager smile, yet there was some sympathy and sadness evident in his eyes.
"Lady Danaya, we have informed Sir Nooj of your arrival. He will meet you up at the Youth League headquarters. Would you like an escort going there? There are quite a few fiends on the path." Yaibal asked. I smiled. Same old Yaibal. He hadn't really changed these past three years.
"We'll be fine, Yaibal. Thank you!" I exclaimed. Uncle Rhys approached Yaibal and patted him on the shoulder.
Uncle Rhys inquired, "How are things going on this side? Yevon's a mess." Yaibal chuckled and rubbed the back of his head.
"Both the Youth League here and the one at Kilika are doing fine. Better than Yevon, anyways. Even with the death of High Summoner Yuna, Sir Nooj has been keeping us under control and prepared for anything that might happen. Yevon might be under a lot of chaos probably because of the death of their Praetor." Yaibal explained. Two Youth League members went up to him and whispered something to him. "Well, we have to go! There are some fiends messing with the machina the Machine Faction had given us! Bye, everyone! Good luck!" Yaibal shouted as he waved goodbye and ran off. Sargent muttered something about Yaibal, so I turned to him.
"What was that?" I interrogated while raising my eyebrows.
Sargent brought up, "That Yaibal guy is too hyped up for his age. He's older than us, and yet he still has so much energy." Alisa, Taehyr, and I laughed. Iyana just shook her head.
Alisa smiled, "That's Yaibal for you! He's a really good guy. He's like an older brother to all of us!" The group and I made our way to the Youth League headquarters, all the while defeating a few fiends along the way. We encountered three Ochus, and all of them were pretty easy to defeat. I stopped walking and turned to the others, who stopped walking as well.
"What's wrong?" Uncle Rhys asked. I exchanged glances with everyone. "Danaya?"
"Do you think we should check up on the Den of Woe?" I asked with a small smile, looking down at the path that leads to the Den of Woe. Uncle Rhys instantly shook his head.
"No. That's a dangerous place." Uncle Rhys rejected our idea. Taehyr and Iyana began to beg him to say yes, but Uncle Rhys wouldn't budge. When Alisa joined in on the begging and even I added a little 'please,' Uncle Rhys sighed. "All right, all right. Not now though. Let's go ask Nooj first if it's safe." Uncle Rhys gave in. Feeling satisfied, the girls and the rest of us continued to walk towards the headquarters. Little did the others know, Uncle Rhys forgot all about it and never asked Nooj about the Den of Woe. I stopped myself from reminding him, thinking visiting the Den of Woe would be a bad idea at the moment. Once we arrived, people were crowding around us again. I looked around for Elma to say hi, but I remembered she was with Lucil at Kilika. We noticed Nooj walking towards us, so we walked to him as well.
"I was informed you were all going to visit. What's going on? Anything happening?" Nooj asked. I explained to him about the second sphere we had received from Mirage. "Who is that woman? She seems to have a connection to you guys." Nooj noted as he looked at Alisa and Uncle Rhys. They both shrugged, having no idea who Mirage was either. We all made our way inside the building and sat down at the huge round table. Nooj cleared his throat. "How much was the damage in Moonflow?" I looked up at him and bit my lip.
I answered, "A lot of damage. Lots of people were killed again…even Tobli." I grasped my skirt tightly and took a deep breath. "I don't know how Mirage unleashes all the fiends like that. What kind of powers does she have?" There was silence throughout the entire room as we were all just…baffled. Uncle Rhys and Nooj didn't know what to think. I glanced at everyone's faces and saw their despair, anger, confusion, and hurt. I took it upon myself and stood up with a small smile. "Let's go to the Calm Lands."
"Are you insane? There's some batshit-crazy woman out there destroying all of Spira and you want to go to the Calm Lands?" one of the Youth League members, who was standing as a guard, shouted at me. Everyone stared at him in disbelief, while Nooj gave him a reprimanding stare. Xanxus placed his arm in front of the guy to prevent him from attacking me. I stood my ground and kept my smile. I knew someone would get my idea sooner or later.
Taehyr cleared her throat and cut in, "I think Danaya wants us to go the Calm Lands and try to take a break from all the fighting and destruction around us. We've experienced too much in just a few days." I nodded, letting Taehyr know that's exactly what I was thinking. The Youth League member calmed down as people around the table nodded their heads, even Uncle Rhys. Sargent was left as he pursed his lips together and finally nodded. Nooj chuckled at Alisa's happiness as she let out a small yelp of joy. I smiled, knowing there was still happiness inside everyone. After saying goodbye to Nooj and the Youth League, we set out for the Calm Lands. When everyone got back inside the airship, I went up to the Cabin and took a moment of breathe. I think everything was settling down from the recent fights, deaths, and horrible occurrences. My mind was still in chaos, but I tried to move on and accept.
"Sis…" Alisa cut off my thinking by sitting down next to me on the bed and laying her head on my shoulder. "You okay?" I chuckled and laid my head down onto Alisa's head.
"I should be asking you that, Alisa." I replied. We stayed like that in silence, and eventually, the two of us were in somewhat of a relaxed and Zen state. That moment was shattered when the whole airship began to shake with the sound of a 'thump.' The both of us shot up, and the alarm began to sound.
Iyana shouted over the speaker, "The airship! Something hit it! It's gone, but… WE'RE GOING DOWN!" Alisa and I both managed to stumble over to the elevator, but it wouldn't work.
I cursed, "Shit! The whole airship is malfunctioning!" I grabbed Alisa's arm as we made our way over to Pello to make sure he was okay.
"I am ohkay, Mish Danaya. Maybe yoo can yoosh your Communinicator!" Pello suggested. I nodded and reached for mine, but Alisa's was already taking hers out and contacting Taehyr. The airship shook again, and this time, Alisa and I tumbled to the ground. Her communicator almost slipped to the other side of the room if I hadn't grabbed it.
"Taehyr! Taehyr! Come in!" I shouted at the communicator. I heard a few buzzing sounds, but then Taehyr's voice saved me from panicking even more.
"Danaya! Alisa! Thank Spira you're okay! I'm with Iyana right now! Whoa! Everything seems bumpy, so hold on tight! A fiend of some sort hit the airship, so we're going down! We're near Calm Lands, like the path between it and Macalania! Iyana's trying to maneuver us around in the safest way possible so we DON'T land in a field full of spikes! STAY SAFE! WHOAAA!" Taehyr got cut off as she probably tumbled over or fell. I shut Alisa's communicator off and handed it to her. We both made our way behind the big counter and hid behind it with Pello. The three of us sat down and shut our eyes as the thumps got louder and rumbles harder. All of a sudden, the airship went skidding down onto the ground, but not before we hit something with a large bang.
