Sakura was really starting to get creeped out by the guy they called Ryuzaki. She was fighting the urge to let a shiver wrack through her body. The pinkette and sleep deprived detective sat there staring at each other for more than just a few long, uncomfortable minutes.

"I thought you had some questions you wanted to ask me," Sakura said, meeting his analytic gaze without flinching, deciding to break the silence herself.

The best that she could hope for right now was that initiating conversation with him would get the guy to talk to her, not stare. Slowly, as if life was coming back into his very being, he blinked a couple of times and behaved as if the awkward stare-session hadn't just happened. She watched as he shifted a little and picked up a single piece of paper by the top two corners.

"Ah, yes. I'd like to start off with something simple. What's your name?"

She stared at him again, blinking a couple of times, just a bit dumbfounded. Did he really think she was lying about her name or something?

"It's Sakura. I've already told you that." She took her time looking all around the room, not focusing on one single thing, but trying to take in everything. All of this looked very bizarre and unfamiliar to her. Her eyes landed back on Ryuzaki's.

She could tell he was analyzing every little detail about her: her posture, her body language, and her eyes, always her eyes to try to tell if she was lying or not. Frankly, it was pissing her off. This guy had the nerve to even suspect her of lying! She clenched her good hand into a fist, and the action didn't go unnoticed.

"Indeed you did… Do you remember where you are from? Tokyo, Aoyama, Shinjuku? Am I ringing any bells?" Ryuzaki asked, not seeing any recognition flash into the girl's eyes.

Sakura groaned and shook her head. "No, but I know that where I'm from didn't look like this place at all!"

"And what do you mean by that?" he asked, confused.

She tried explaining herself. "Well, I don't think that there are any cars where I'm from. We always walked to get places, and... There was more.. nature around, I guess?"

"And you just can't remember what this place was called?" Ryuzaki asked bluntly. He never understood how frustrating it was to talk to a person with amnesia until now.

"No! What are you, some detective?!" Sakura said through gritted teeth.

At this, they all turned around from what they were doing to look back at Ryuzaki and Sakura. They wondered how many details L would give out to this girl who was practically a stranger.

"Actually, that's quite right. We are detectives."

Sakura was taken by surprise. She'd hardly been serious.

She narrowed her eyes, "Then what do you want from me? Why am I here of all places?"

"That's simple. That is due to Matsuda's kindness. He just so happens to live... and work here." He went on to explain. "We're working on one of the biggest criminal cases in the world. My intuition tells me that you are somehow involved."

A few seconds ticked by in silence.

"How the hell would I be involved in your stupid little case?! I'm not a criminal and I can't even remember anything!" Sakura huffed. On top of memory loss, injuries, and all of this questioning, she was getting really stressed out and exhausted.

"I believed that you were under Kira's control, and that he made you jump off of a building to commit suicide."

Sakura's mind was whirling in confusion, bits and pieces of images coming to her mind, and it was almost enough to make her nauseous. She tried to force herself to take deep, calming breaths, but she could feel that the color was draining out of her face and a panic attack was coming on.

"I didn't... I didn't jump off of a building! Don't you think I would know it if I jumped from a building? Konoha's in trouble..." she said with muted horror.

The other detectives and Watari started coming closer, partially because Sakura was beginning to look like she had seen a ghost, and partially out of curiosity.

"Konoha?" Ryuzaki questioned with a puzzled look on his face.

Sakura took another set of deep breaths. She looked him in the eye and told him straight forward. "My home! It's in trouble, you have to-!"

Matsuda placed a hand on one of her shoulders, cutting her off. She turned to look up at him.

"Calm down, Sakura... There's no such place as Konoha. You've got to be mistaken," Matsuda said to her horror. But she wouldn't have any of it. She furiously shook her head in denial, about to protest when Ryuzaki began his questioning again.

"If you didn't jump from a building, what happened?"

"I'm.. not really sure.. But my homeisin trouble!" Sakura cried exasperatedly trying to make them understand her.

Aizawa let out a sigh of frustration and went to sit in front of one of the huge computers to do some more research. That, of course, didn't mean he wasn't still listening to them from where he was sitting.

"Let's move on, then," Ryuzaki decided. He wasn't quite sure what to make of all of this just yet. "Watari, please bring me the items."

The elderly man momentarily rounded a corner and then walked back and placed the objects Ryuzaki asked for on the table in front of Sakura.

"We found this stuff in the hospital room you were in. The nurses said this all belongs to you," Ryuzaki said as he picked up her weapon holster with his index finger and thumb. Using his other hand, he opened it up and let the contents spill out onto the table. Kunai, shuriken, senbon, medical bandages, and a few scrolls clanked and thumped as they fell out.

"What were you doing with all of this in your possession? They appear to be very old-fashioned weapons," Ryuzaki asked, dead serious. By all means, she shouldn't have had these types of weapons to begin with. He didn't even know where someone could get items such as these without them being antiques passed through the generations.

"You took my stuff? Without asking?" Sakura said, glaring daggers at him. If looks could kill, one knows he'd be dead by now.

"Answer the question, Sakura-san."

She rolled her eyes as if this were just another trivial little thing. "Everyone has them. What's the big deal?"

At the revelation of this new little piece of information, Ryuzaki tucked his thumb under his top lip. He was very deep in his thoughts, and his suspicions that this girl was involved with the Kira case were dwindling... He narrowed it down to only a two percent chance. It was more likely that Matsuda had just saved a psychotic teenage girl's life. His thoughts were interrupted, though.

"Are those my clothes?" the pinkette said, pointing over to the red sleeveless vest, black shorts, and tan medical apron that was also resting on the table. She had noticed in the back of her mind that she was still wearing her hospital attire.

A little irked that he'd been interrupted, he replied without missing a beat. "You are the only female within this facility. It would only make sense that this belongs to you," he annoyingly stated. She couldn't stand his attitude.

"Well, smart ass, I only ask because that's my family crest on the back of the vest," Sakura said, leaning back against the couch and let out an annoyed huff.

"Family crest?" Chief Yagami chimed in. "No one has had family crests embroidered onto their clothing since long ago."

"What does that crest mean, Sakura?" Matsuda asked, attempting to free the room of a little bit of tension.

"It belongs to and represents the Haruno clan," she responded proudly.

"So, would that make your last name Haruno?" Matsuda prodded with a smile.

"Yes!" she said happily, sending a small smile his way.

"Aizawa, please do a worldwide search of the name Haruno," Ryuzaki instructed. Aizawa's hands glided across the keyboard with ease, the tapping noise of the keys filling the room.

"Already on it. It'll take just a min-" Chief Yagami looked over in Aizawa's direction.

"What's wrong?" Chief Yagami asked.

"Sir... I can't find anything on the name Haruno. Not one thing." When Aizawa spoke these words, the room fell silent.

Ryuzaki considered it for a moment. He could tell that the girl was obviously not lying but...

"Sakura. I have one last question for now, and then you may rest. I know this is a very stressful situation for you."

She looked over at him tiredly. Her injuries were taking a toll on her body whether she wanted to admit it or not. Ryuzaki could tell she was emotionally drained, and he knew that her lack of medication wasn't helping.

"Do you know anything about the name Kira I mentioned earlier?" he asked and watched her very closely.

"Kira? Is that supposed to be a person?" She said innocently.

Ryuzaki wanted to mentally facepalm. He really was getting nowhere.

He sighed. "We will discuss more later. You need to rest. It seems as if your memories are coming back slowly, so it may only be a matter of time," Ryuzaki said getting up and making his way over to the desks.

Sakura looked up at Matsuda, who was about to try to help her up, and shook her head and waved him away. "I'll rest here."

He looked uncertain and hesitated for a moment before nodding his head. He saw how stubborn she was earlier upstairs and he didn't have it in him to try to reason with her. He turned around to get back to work when he suggested, "Please take the medicine Watari gives you. You can trust us, and you will heal faster."

The petite pinkette simply nodded, not willing to argue anymore. A few minutes later when Watari came to her with same pain medication he had offered her earlier, she took it with ease as she waited for the effects to give her peace, if only for a little while.

Naruto and Kakashi had made it to Tsunade's office in almost record time. Tsunade had a grave expression on her face, exhaustion and sadness evident in her eyes. Hinata and Shikamaru were in the Hokage's office as well, looking tired from being summoned at this hour.

"Kakashi has reported everything that's happened to me. I've thought about every possible situation and I'm afraid there's only one way to get Sakura back... and it's not going to be easy." Tsunade hesitated, hating to admit it, but she continued on. "There's no way the Akatsuki are going to freely tell us where Sakura is or how to get her back, so someone is going to have to infiltrate the Akatsuki."

"I'll do it," Kakashi said. He wasn't eager to do it, but he knew that he would be capable of handling it. He might not have acted like it, but he'd do anything to save his little pink-haired teammate.

Tsunade shook her head and sighed. "As easy as that would be, you can't. The Akatsuki know your face and your chakra signature all too well. They also know that you would never do anything to betray Konoha; you're too loyal to ever put yourself at the risk of being a rogue ninja."

Tsunade knew Naruto was about to volunteer as well, the knucklehead wouldn't think it through before opening his mouth. "And no, Naruto, you can't do it either. The Akatsuki's main goal is the capture of all the tailed beasts, remember? I refuse to deliver you to their doorstep. There is someone I have in mind though," Tsunade said as she stood up to look out of her window.

"Well then why aren't they here already so we can start our mission?!" Naruto shouted, his patience long gone.

"Because, you're going to have to find Uchiha Sasuke and get him to cooperate with us. I'm afraid he's the only one who can do it," Tsunade said, serious as can be. She'd already mentioned this to Shikamaru and Hinata, so Naruto was the only one who was shocked. If Kakashi was shocked, he didn't outwardly show it. "This is your mission. Find Uchiha Sasuke, get him to infiltrate the Akatsuki, and find a way to get Sakura back! You are to leave within the hour. Dismissed!"

All four ninja in the Hokage's office were now long gone, packing bags that would undoubtedly be full of necessities for a long mission. They packed for all climates because who knew where Sasuke was at this point. This would probably be the most important mission they would ever take, and they had no intentions on failing.

Hinata stood in front of the gates with Kakashi, who was on time and there before any of them. Naruto and Shikamaru were taking a little more time than Hinata hoped they would. She was ready to set out, and knew how important her eyes would be to the team on this mission.

"I won't allow myself to be a burden, Father. I will help bring back Sakura!"

She was brought back to the real world as the other two members of their small team made their appearance. Kakashi set out, and the other three fell into a running stride behind him. He set a pace that Hinata knew would make her legs ache if they continued on like this for hours, but she was a ninja, and she wouldn't allow herself to fall behind.

"What's the plan, Kakashi?" Shikamaru asked, but the genius probably already knew the answer.

"We're going to check a few villages and see if there's any information that can be gathered on Sasuke," Kakashi explained as he did a few hand seals, summoning his pack of dogs. "While we're trying to gather some information, I'll have my dogs try to pick up any traces of Sasuke's scent."

Shikamaru nodded his head. He'd have done it no other way.

The main issue here was how long it would take them to find a lead on Sasuke's scent. They'd been briefly reminded of the teammates that Sasuke could possibly still be travelling with. If they couldn't find anything on Sasuke, they'd ask about these people as well.

"What country are we going to check first?" Naruto asked.

"W-we're not staying in Fire Country?" Hinata asked wearily.

Shikamaru shook his head. "Uchiha's probably too worried about running into ANBU all the time, so it's likely he's not in Fire Country."

Kakashi gave a small nod. "Right. I can't see a reason for Sasuke to be in the desert either, so our best bet is to start with Lightning. We're not on friendly terms with Stone, so I'd like to leave them for last if possible..."

The Hyuuga heiress blushed, feeling a bit ignorant for having asked. Before she could start feeling too sorry for herself, her thoughts were interrupted yet again.

"Hinata, how far are you able to see with your Byakugan now?" Kakashi asked.

"F-fifteen kilometers.." she stuttered. Neji could still see farther than her, but Neji had told her she was making progress in leaps and bounds, and that there was still room for improvement.

"Wow, Hinata! That's amazing!" Naruto burst out and flashed her a big smile, causing her face to turn a nice shade of red. "With your eyes, we'll have no trouble finding that bastard!"

"T-Thank you Naruto-kun.." Hinata blushed furiously. She'd long gotten over fainting around the exuberant blonde.

Kakashi nodded his head again, quietly calculating in his mind a perimeter he'd set in his head. The rest of the team caught on to his tension and cut the small talk, focusing on the mission. This could be life or death for Sakura, and for all they knew she could already be dead.

Sakura's eyes fluttered open, slowly focusing on the scene around her. Momentarily forgetting where she was, she was confused when she was on a couch in a room with multiple huge flat-screen monitors. By the amount of pain she was in, the best thing she could guess what that she had been asleep for so long that the pain medication had worn off. That means she was now well rested.

Slowly sitting up and stretching her good arm, she looked around taking note that everyone was gathered around one of the monitors with Ryuzaki seated in the middle of the small group. She knew she probably shouldn't be trying to eavesdrop, but who cares? None of this probably meant anything to her, but she was curious. She didn't think that she would be able to get up on her own, so she closed her eyes and focused on trying to hear what they were saying.

"...illing.. began again!" That was Matsuda.

"This still doesn't clear my suspicions." Ryuzaki.

"Ryuzaki, the killings have begun again. My son is innocent!" And that's the one they called Chief Yagami. I guess his son was a suspect?

"Ryuzaki, Chief's right. Light is innocent, and this only proves it even more." And that's Aizawa. Wait, did they say Light?!

Sakura opened her eyes wide. She had to confirm her suspicions for herself, so she fought against the pain in her leg and limped over to the group of men. They must have heard her struggling because they turned around in time to block her view of the screen. She looked up at them, confusion evident in her eyes.

"Did.. did you say Light?" She asked them, fighting the tears that were threatening to come through. "Move! Let me see him!" She began shouting, desperation in her voice, but no one made a move because they were stunned by her sudden outburst.

She shoved her way past the men and looked at the screen in front of her, and the sight she saw froze her to her core. Tears began spilling freely as she clamped her hand over her mouth to quiet her sobs. Light was alive! Her brother was alive! She remembered his death... and everything came crashing back to her mind like a gate had been opened in a flood.

She couldn't hold herself up any longer, gasping in pain. Before Ryuzaki realized what he was doing, his arms reached out to catch her. She fell awkwardly on top of him.

"S..Sakura? Are you okay? Do you know my son?" Chief Yagami asked, concern laced thickly in his voice.

At this she lifted her head, quietly thanking Ryuzaki for catching her. The awkward genius didn't really know what to say or what made him feel compelled to catch her, but he stood up and offered her his chair. She situated herself upright, trying to ignore the scorching pain in her leg.

"That's my brother… It has to be. But my brother is supposed to be dead..." She managed to whisper, casting her eyes back to the screen. She didn't even try to stop the torrent of tears now.

"You've remembered everything, haven't you?" Ryuzaki said lowly. He felt sympathy for the girl in front of him, something that he'd never felt for anyone before. This girl had struck something deep inside of him, awakening basic human emotions that he had long ago cast aside.

She nodded her head, despair written on her face.

With that, Sakura grabbed Ryuzaki's hand, searching anywhere for support. Never having been in a situation such as this one, Ryuzaki had no idea how he was supposed to react, so he just stood there watching the girl. He couldn't help but feel sorry for her, and he couldn't help the involuntary reaction when he squeezed her hand to attempt to comfort her. They believed her tears were for her brother, but unknown to them right now, her sobs were because she knew she was far, far away from her friends and her home... wherever home was.

Hinata knew that this was going to be the moment that decided which way this mission was going to go. They'd been travelling for a little over a day, and they had come across a lead on their way to Lightning. It turns out, Kakashi had been intimidating enough in his search for information that they had been given facts, because here they were face to face with Uchiha Sasuke.

Shikamaru was prepared at any moment to capture him with his Shadow Possession Jutsu, but Sasuke didn't appear to be trying to run. And right now, he was completely alone, without a team.

"We can take him if we have to," Hinata thought. She crouched low into a fighting position, Byakugan activated, ready to stop the flow of his chakra to immobilize him so they could convince him to help them.

"Teme.. We need your help. Sakura-chan's in trouble," Naruto said across the small clearing, his tone grave. It took a lot to get Naruto to be this serious about anything.

This caught Sasuke off guard because he thought they were here to bring him back to Konoha. He'd noticed Sakura wasn't with them, and he never thought in a million years that they would ever come to him for help. Especially when it came to Sakura.

"And why should I?" the Uchiha said in his unemotional, careless tone.

"Tsunade baa-chan has agreed that if you help us to save Sakura, you'll be able to come back to Konoha without getting executed for all the shit you've put us through. This will give you the perfect opportunity to get your revenge on your brother," Naruto said, waiting for a reply expectantly.

Sasuke hesitated for a moment and sighed.

"I'm waiting... Explain."
