Chapter 7: Expect the Unexpected

(Chris POV (3rd person))

Chris woke up to find himself in another metal room, just like the last one, except this one looked more like a jail cell. His head was also pounding very uncomfortably, probably from the little run in with Zero earlier.

He groaned as he sat himself up, rubbing his temples to sooth the pain, though it really didn't help much. "What happened?" He let his hands drop to the small bed he was laying in, while he collected his thoughts, trying to find the answer to his own question. it was going pretty well except for the fact that he couldn't remember anything. Whenever he thought about it, all he could get were weird memories from his dream. Now that he thought about it; it was a rather strange dream. Definitely out of the ordinary.

It was like I was re watching some memories; but from a distant, and yet, first hand... It was hard to explain but it was kinda like this: I was fully conscious that I was looking through my own eyes, yet I had no control of what was going on in the dream. I was just sitting there and watching a movie from my person's eyes. Or like... being in a machine that takes over all your actions, but leaves your own thoughts to your own free will, if that makes any sense.

Not only that but, the dream also switched from one scene to another, like a collection of memories. It kinda went like this:

(Chris's dream)

I was wondering through some unfamiliar woods; heading in some random direction, with no destination in mind. Scoffing at every plant and animal that I came across. "Worthless. People don't even realize how lucky they are. To have such a lively, and prosperous planet. They're such fools not to realize how good they have it." I kicked at the dirt in front of my, scoffing once again.

"Well, they'll learn soon enough."

-Time Skip-

I was standing in front of a giant robot, completely destroyed and turned into a large pile of scrap metal; grinning wickedly to myself. "So much for government defense. And to think, I use to depend on these," I kick a piece of metal right next to my foot," piece of junk."

At that moment, I used my eyes, and looked down at myself. I was wearing some sort of black battle suit, and had two black/green blades drawn out... wait a moment. Isn't the the outfit that I wore when I worked for-

My thoughts were cut off when I heard footsteps behind me. Rapid ones. Along with some yelling. I guessed it was Sonic.

Turns out I was right.

I didn't bother looking at him, just waited for him to say something. For a moment, all that was heard was the dust being blown away in the wind of the explosion, and my light pants. It's been a while since I've been this exhausted, I wonder what I've been doing.

"Chris?" his voice seemed to be full of surprise and worry.

I went ridged- wait! I was expecting this, so then why did I...

I suddenly felt my body moving on it's own, and turned towards Sonic.

"S-S-S-Sonic!" I stuttered. 'What on earth is going on?!' I felt my hand reach up and scratch the back of my head, but said nothing. I started to ask him why he was there, and he asked me the same thing. The only difference between our questions was that he also asked why I've been gone for so long. He motioned for me to follow him.

For the moment, i forgot that I wasn't in control of my body, and attempted to follow him. I was shocked when my feet remained in place. With all of the force I could muster, I tried to once again. And once again, I found that I was glued to the ground. Then, I felt a small smile come across my face. 'This can't be good.'

I watched as Sonic started to walk off on his own, only to stop and turn around when he noticed that I wasn't following. I watched this scene curiously, wondering about what was going to happen.

I turned away and I felt Sonic turn his gaze to me.

"I'm sorry..." I could feel tears start to fill my eyes.

Sonic looked at absolutely puzzled. " What do you mean 'Sorry'? You didn't to anything wrong.

"I'm sorry but.. I'm... I'm not going home. A-at least, not yet."

Sonic was completely baffled and hurt by me reply.

"What do you mean buddy?"

I finally was able to force myself to look into his eyes. I nearly burst into tears from the hurt I saw in them. My legs bent themselves, and I was preparing to jump.

"Say good-bye to the others for me." I called out softly to him. I took off not even a second after that. And that's when my dream came to an end.

(End of dream)-

Chris felt himself shoot up out of fright. He was cold from sweat, trembling, and was panting lightly. And that lead him to where he was now.

He felt a cold draft sink into the room from the window that let in the only light that Chris could get. The room was also damp and, which made Chris shiver even more.

There was something sinister about that room. Almost as if there was something was waiting in the dark cover of shadows. Something deadly, and was hungry. Waiting, and circled him; watching for it's time to strike.

Bags were rustled, and were walked over, very quietly, but not quiet enough. Chris stiffened. There was something behind him.

Slowly Chris turned around. He was holding his breath, and was waiting with anticipation. The creature came crawling closer and closer. Chris reached behind himself, and felt a large stone behind his back. Without a second thought, he gabbed it in a white knuckle grip, and hid it behind his back.

The creature finally walked out of the shadows. Chris acted out of instinct, and lifted the rock above his head. He started to let it crash down; but stopped when he noticed that the creature was only a small white mouse. He let out a long sigh, and let himself relax a bit.

"What? Scared of a little mouse?" Chris stiffened, hairs standing on end. There were footsteps coming closer to him. With every 'click' his grip on the rock tightened.

The footsteps stopped, roughly, about three feet from where he was sitting. Chris could piratically feel that man's breath on the back on his neck.

"Well don't worry. They don't bite." The man let out a low, dark chuckle.

Chris let out a sigh of annoyance, and let his hand slide away from the rock he was holding. "What do you want?"

The man chuckled once again. "Only came to see how our most esteemed guest is enjoying his stay. After all, you are the key to our success."

This surprised me. "What do you mean 'I'm the key to your success?"

Zero walked up behind Chris, so that he would be able to see him without having to turn around. He was laughing casually as he squatted down so that he was eye level with him.

"Oh, nothing that you can't pick up. Someone who looks just like you, living in your house, and living with your friends. Not only that, bit that house just soo happen to be where the earth's last line of defense lies. Nothing too complicated.

Of course, that was until I lost the plan along with the blue prints. I've gotta admit, that blue friend of ours is incredibly fast. His name was Sonic, right?"

Chris took a sharp breath in.

"What did you do?" he growled

"Ohhh nothing too major. Just stole some blue-prints for the X-Tornado. The only problem is that friend of yours arrived a little too early. That left a large loop whole in my plan, but whatever, that was an easy fix. Instead of following the original plan, I just to do plan B: Convince your friends that your a traitor. Course that didn't go over to well either. That red guy's pretty clever for a knuckle head. He has a good instinct."

He stood up and wandered aimlessly through the room. Chis eyed him cautiously.

"Quite simple really. With the seeds of doubt planted in their minds, they won' trust you so easily as they use to. This in turn will cause you to loose the second line of defense as a battle partner. With the force divided, we'l easily pick off each member of the force. That's how I planned it.

" However, Dr. Eggman came up with an impressive idea of having someone on the inside (not that I have't thought of doing that before) helping us. I Don't think I need to explain the informational part of this plan. Nor do I need to explain the emotional part." He flashed Chris a knowing smirk, but the only thing he received back was a stony glare.

"Emotional part?"

"You know, when the previous member of your team become confused by your actions, so they can't think clearly. Then they either dive into depression, start letting out their anger out on everyone around them, or just completely break all connections with you. Nothing too destructive with humans. But, with morbians, that's a completely different story. With all of the power they posses, I won't even have need to raise a finger against them. They'll destroy each other on the own. All I have to do is deliver the final blow against the earth, and with that I will finally complete my mission."

Chris's eyes grew wider with the thought of the plan's out come.

"They would never lay a hand against the earth." Chris yelled. Zero's eyebrows shot up.

"Are you sure about that?"

"Yeah! Sonic would never hurt an innocent being."

Zero chuckled evilly."We'll see about that. But for now, you better get comfortable. You're gonna be in here for a while."

Zero walked out slowly, and left the door wide open. At the moment, since Chris wasn't thinking as straight as he thought he was, rushed straight for the entrance. He was a millisecond too late, because a split second before he was in the door's entrance, it slammed shut. Chris was going to fast, so he couldn't stop himself from running smack dab into to it. He started to bang on the door as hard as he could with his fist.

"You won't succeed! Just you wait, Sonic will stop you!"

Zero popped in front of him without warning and said: "We'll see." and he was gone.

Chris let out a dreaded sigh and flopped doen onto the hard cement floor, running a hand through his hair.

"I need to get out of here..."
