Chapter Seven:

Previously in the story:

Safuren opened her eyes, the colour of amber burning brightly within them, her pupils were so constricted that they were nearly unable to see. An aura erupted around her, causing the living grass around her to shrivel and die. The mysterious cloaked figure looked on, fear radiating off of him

"wa-"

his words were cut when she disappeared instantly and grabbed a hold of his throat, lifting him high in the air. The cloak fell backward revealing the stranger's identity

"WHO ARE YOU!"

her voice sounding like thunder, in spite of his fears he knew that revealing his identity would be death on his part but little did he know, he was dead anyways.

Safuren or what appeared to be her looked sternly at him then without remorse snapped his neck, tossing his body into the awaiting flames of the crumbled house. Safuren looked up at the moon, closed her eyes and a few moments later collapsed.

*********************************

The beeping of a machine was the first thing Safuren heard when she regained consciousness, next was the mumbling of voices

*who the hell is in my house*

suddenly Safuren sprang up from the bed, the sudden reaction to light acting on her eyes caused her to hiss out in pain

"Safuren, oh gosh you're awake,"

her ears perked up at the voices of Haru and Kyoka, slowly she opened her eyes, blinking rapidly so that they can readjust

"Haru, Kyoka...wa...where am I?"

"You're in the hospital."

*so it wasn't a dream, my house, it's gone*

"oh"

they looked at her with concern

"is that all you can say? You're in the hospital, your house is no more not to mention, you're covered in bandages...Safuren you almost died,"

Safuren glared at the person who just said that and found it was Tsuna,

"I'm well aware of what happened, thanks for reminding me... Can you all just leave,"

"but Safu-"

"no Haru just leave, I need time to myself."

They all exited the hospital room, shutting the door completely behind them. Safuren wanted to scream but settled on silent tears, first her parents, her safety, her home and now her life

"dam it all!"

as she lay on the bed events of her attack played over in her mind clear as day, however, the most horrific was watching her attacker being burned alive by her own hands, Safuren couldn't hold it in any longer, she screamed.

After they left her room, the three moved along the corridors of the hospital leading to the waiting room, where everyone was pacing, seated or trying to find a way to stay calm. When they entered all eyes landed on them

"she's awake,"

the whole room sighed in relief

"then what are we waiting for, let's go see her,"

Haru raised her hand stopping everyone from moving

"she doesn't want to see anyone right now."

"what, why not?!" yelled Gokeruda

"she just wants to be alone right now." stated Kyoka

"come on everyone, it's better we come back later to see her,"

Tsuna said unhappily; with reluctance they all left the hospital.

Hibari was the only one who decided to stay, Tsuna figured he might and just let him be. No words were said as they passed each other but the silence spoke volumes. Hibari made his way towards Safuren's room his thoughts running all over the place, as he reached all that welcomed him was a scream.

Hibari rushed into the room, tonfa at hand preparing to kill anything or anyone that may have harmed her further but all he saw was Safuren clutching her head in her hands, trembling uncontrollably, he hated seeing her so defeated and helpless. Quickly yet quietly he made his way over to her

"Safuren..."

she froze, her head slowly raising up to meet his gaze and when she realized it was Hibari before her, a new wave of tears came gushing out. Hibari lowered himself onto the bed and pulled her on his lap, all her emotions were so hay-wired right now that all she could do was cry, Safuren cried and cried which seemed like hours until she fell asleep and all that time Hibari was keeping his anger at bay, he was determined to find whoever sent that maniac to kill her.

Hibari tried to move her back to bed but unconsciously the grip on his shirt tightened

"no, please, don't leave me."

her voice came out in a whisper, knowing that he wasn't going anywhere now placed her on the bed and climbed in with her, his arm tightly secured around her.

Reborn stood on Safuren's bedside table observing her as she slept close to Hibari

"Hibari we need to talk,"

Hibari opened his eyes instantly

"you and I both know that this attack will not be the last and she has to start her training soon but she needs a place to stay,"

Hibari knew where this was going

"why can't she just stay at Tsuna's or Haru?"

"As much as I'll like to keep her under my wing it's not safe for her, in my opinion staying with you is the safest place she can be, plus believe it or not she trusts you, even though she won't admit it."

Hibari thought it over and growled

"just what I need..."

"Then it's settled, she'll be staying with you and you can start training her when she recovers. I checked with the doctor, she's fine and he's discharging her. Take care of her or else I'll shoot you." Reborn walked out the room, leaving a furious Hibari

*Dam that baby*

*****************************************

Safuren woke up alone the next morning. Remembering she was still in the hospital she sighed, sadness coming over her as her thought ran across her misfortune. Rubbing the sleep from her eyes she noticed all the connections from the hospital machine was no longer on her, before she could ask herself when had they disappeared a nurse walked in the room giving her a small smile

"good morning Ms. Traise, how are you feeling?"

"good morning nurse, I'm feeling okay, I guess."

"Alright, I'm going to give you a physical examination before we send you home."

Safuren raised an eyebrow

"I'm being released?" the nurse smiled

"yes doctor discharged you early this morning; your guardian will be here shortly to take you home."

Safuren didn't bother to tell her that she had no home, but wait what guardian?

*I haven't heard from WM since she left to go on that trip and Reborn won't be back till tomorrow, so what guardian is she talking about?*

after the nurse left, Safuren walked slowly to the bathroom in the room, she seriously needed to freshen up

*gosh how I dislike hospitals*

afterwards she got dressed in a pair of jeans and a plain black shirt Haru bought for her yesterday. Safuren still felt weak, a feeling she hated but right now she had to deal with it

"well you're finally awake brat,"

Safuren's head turned abruptly at Hibari's voice

"Kyoya, wa-what are you doing here?" Hibari smirked

"I'm here to pick you up; you'll be staying with me from a while."

Safuren blinked several times before she chuckled nervously

"I hope that's a joke, is it?"

"Sadly it's not; I'm also your guardian from hence forth."

Safuren just watched him like a dumb deer in headlights

*only Reborn could have orchestrated something like this, dam you Reborn why couldn't I just stay with you, why Kyoya?*

Safuren groaned under her breath, pinched the bridge of her nose then exhaled before turning toward him

"guess it can't be helped then, gosh I hope I don't kill you anytime soon, I know you're gonna drive me crazy"

Hibari snickered

"right back at you, not forgetting I'll be training you."

Safuren had to bite her tongue to keep from screaming

*dam I forgot about my training, kill me now!*

slipping on her sandals quickly she marched toward the door

"can we just go already, I don't think I can stay in this hospital any longer."

without saying a word Hibari hurried her out the room, down the corridors of the hospital and towards the parking lot. Now sitting silently in Hibari's car neither parties uttered a word to each other and they kept it that way for the rest of the drive.

When Safuren arrived at Hibari's house she did her best to hide her amazement, not only was it huge but beautiful as well, it also had a garden "you live here?" she asked in a whisper, he nodded in response

"but wait, wouldn't your parents be against me staying? I mean they don't even know me and agreeing to house a stranger, weird."

Hibari looked at her, the stare alone made her freeze

"I live alone, now stay quiet brat!"

She held her tongue, fighting back the urge to give him a piece of her mind but remembered quickly that he agreed to give her a place to stay even when he didn't want to, exhaling she just crossed her arms and pouted, this didn't pass his gaze one bit, her expression almost made him chuckle but he restrained himself.

Safuren gasped when she saw the inside of the house, in her eyes it looked like something out of a dream, it was spacious, simple, screamed elegance from every angle. She however, sensed a lack of that homey atmosphere, it felt abandoned. Hibari lead her into a library, the sight of books almost made her eyes pop out their sockets

"stay here, Reborn wants to see you before things progress."

Hibari exited before she could respond, locking the door behind him, Safuren was crossed,

*what am I, a small child that he feels the need to lock in a room? Ridiculous!*

puffing she glanced at the shelves filled with books, her irritation quickly vanishing, walking over she picked out a random book and began reading, it seemed liked hours for her, as she sat reading book after book, suddenly the door to the library opened just as she was about to pick out her 15th book, Safuren watched as Reborn entered the room with a angry Hibari behind him

"Caissou Safuren, how are you feeling?"

"Good morning Reborn, I'm feeling a little better thank you."

Reborn nodded

"now as you have been informed, you'll be staying with Hibari permanently. He will be your guardian and trainer."

Safuren's eyes widened

"wait-WHAT! PERMANENTLY?! I thought you told me for a little while,"

she yelled at Hibari

"what seems to be the problem Safuren, you have a problem staying here?"

Reborn asked

"It's not staying that's the problem but Kyoya himself, Reborn I think we might end up killing each other, he's a pain in my ass."

Hibari snarled, Safuren growled

"Safuren that's a problem you two will have to deal with, right now I could care less how you two feel about each other as long as you don't kill each other I'm fine but you will be living under his roof, I expect you to abide by his rules and respect him whenever necessary. Understood?"

Safuren glared at them both, her fists clenched

"I understand Reborn."

He nodded

"good now that that's settled I'll take my leave,"

hopping on the table he patted Safuren's head

"just try to stay out of trouble for a while, you'll be fine."

Looking with sad eyes she nodded

"good, until later."

with that he turned and left.

Safuren sat frozen in the kitchen, completely in a daze, the tea she made sat cold in her cup; she still couldn't believe she was living permanently with Hibari. She let out a sigh of frustration. It was a bit too much for her to comprehend, the sheer idea of it all left her froze, her mind in space. Thankfully she was the only one there.

Hibari mentioned something about running an errand but she was too occupied in her own mind to receive the message clearly. Feeling stiff she decided to walk around and explore her new home. Safuren shivered at the words 'new home' and wondered how the hell, she was ever going to live through this; of all things to happen to her, this was the icing on top the cake. The universe must hate her by making her live with a complete terror of a teenage boy, who, not to mention, is always serious, looks like he wants to kill everyone on sight and irritates her constantly.

"This is all a bad dream I can't seem to wake up from,"

she said out loud. Looking around, large spacious rooms and lavishing furniture met her gaze; eloquent antiques and paintings were on shelves and hung in all the right places.

"If this is how these rooms look at night, they sure as heck must look absolutely stunning in the day."

She continued walking until she entered the living room. Stopping by a mantelpiece, she noticed portraits of what looked like family members and others like colleagues and business partners. One picture showed a woman of early twenties smiling sweetly, a baby nestled safely in her arms, she was beautiful and next to her was a very tall man wearing a suit, his hair was of a jet black colour and his expression was serious.

*He looks a lot like kyoya, could he be his father?*

she found herself asking but immediately dismissed the question; it was not her right or place to ask such a thing. Moving back towards the sofa, she sat down and stared at a grandfather clock ahead of her

*10:35pm, wow it's so late already? Well at least tomorrow is Saturday-oh crap!*

Safuren groaned

"great a whole weekend with that terror, I'm thrilled,"

the sarcasm thick as she spoke. As the minutes ticked by, Safuren grew tired. Feeling too lazy to get up she lay on the sofa clutching on a nearby cushion

*he'll probably kill me for this later but I'll worry about that tomorrow*

eyelids getting heavy, Safuren drifted off into a dreamless sleep.

Hibari walked through the door with bags in both hands. He was beyond the point of irritation; he still couldn't believe Reborn had the nerve to place that girl under his care and permanently. Walking into the kitchen he placed the bags on the counter, never before has he had to shop for so much food, Reborn had informed him that Safuren had an appetite identical to that of a wormhole and his first priority as her guardian was to feed her!

Hibari pinched the bridge of his nose, in only a few hours she managed to upturn his whole life. Speaking of which, he looked around and noticed that she wasn't where he last saw her, her cup of tea was the only thing present and untouched

"where did that brat go?"

He found himself asking, moving from the kitchen he decided to look for her, unfortunately for him he didn't have to go far; the moment he entered the living room he found her sound asleep on the couch curled up in a ball, clutching one of this cushions, Hibari swore underneath his breath.

Standing only a few meters away all he could do was observe her, Hibari noted that she was still in the clothes she wore from this morning

*doesn't she have anything else to wear?*

he groaned when he remembered that she lost all her belongings in the fire. Smirking, Hibari continued to watch the sleeping girl, her hair spread out like the ocean, cheeks flushed, she looked peaceful and innocent. Shaking his head, he walked over and picked her up bridal style, even though she drove him crazy he refused to let her sleep on the couch.

As he progressed up the stairs, Safuren unconsciously gripped his shirt and curled up more into his arms, it seemed that she thought he was the cushion, her actions caused Hibari to blush

*why the heck am I blushing?*

he asked himself cursing in the process. As he made his way down the hall he came to one of the guest rooms and entered quietly placing her on the bed making every effort not to wake her, to his relief she continued to sleep. Making his way to the door, he paused and looked at her for few more seconds before leaving closing the door behind him.
