Chapter Seven

The music was blasting high in Rebekah's headphones so she didn't hear anyone approach the treadmill she was running full speed on. In fact, the female had been working damn hard in avoiding the others after arriving late to the post. Rhage and Ehnvy gave her the stink eye when she showed up when they were about to head back to the mansion. Even though they didn't speak, their eyes told her as much. She was grateful they didn't mention her absence but it was now noticed.

Rebekah was still freaking out over Seth. The seizure had scared the crap out of her and now she was worried it might happen again. Then there was that weird pattern he had drawn in the snow. Made out of a series of circles and lines, it was something she had never seen before and was positive Seth wasn't aware as he drew it. The pattern could've meant anything except that the lesser drew it when he was having the fit. Besides the pattern and the sudden seizure, it was what Seth ranted that scared her the most. He had begged for something to stop and that he was tired. Whatever the memory was, the female figured Seth wouldn't remember since he was knocked out when she left.

Thinking of him so defenseless was scaring the shit out of her.

"Rebekah!"

The female blinked when she found her cuz waving her hands in front of her. Clutching the bars on the side and slowed the treadmill to a jog until stopping. Removing her headphones and clicking the iPod off, Rebekah reached for the water bottle and nearly finished before looking at her cuz. Edynn raised her eyebrows like she was surprised in finding the female running herself ragged.

"What's up?" Rebekah asked in short breaths.

"Uh, I didn't see you at Last Meal and Ehnvy told me you were down here. He also said you were late showing up."

"So he sent you to get info out of me?"

"A little. I was just worried about you. So what's with the hundred meter dash you have going?"

Wiping sweat from her face and dragging her hand over her running shorts, Rebekah made her way over to the benches before sitting down and cleaning her face with a towel. Edynn joined her cousin and waited for the female to speak her part. Taking another chug out of the water and wiping away the sweat, Rebekah left the towel over her head as she sighed and leaned against the wall.

"Nothing's happening," she said. "I just got too much time on my mind and I don't like it. As for why I was late, you can go tell Ehnvy to stay the fuck out of my business. I was late one time. It won't happen again."

"Okay. Something's defiantly bothering you. What is it? You know you can talk to me."

She tilted her head over to her cuz. Edynn gave Rebekah a confident smile that whatever she told her wouldn't leave the room. Taking her bottle and finishing off the water, the female felt her body cool down as she took in steady breathes.

"Like I said, got too much time. Too much time reminds me of things and I hate being reminded."

"Is that all?"

Rebekah shifted her eyes at her cuz. The female found it funny how it was Edynn who had been sneaking around to meet Adam for their nights. Now it was her turn sneaking out to meet Seth and she couldn't tell anybody.

The female just nodded and stood up. She could feel Edynn's eyes on her so she told her cuz she was fine and headed to the showers. As for the Brothers, the only way to keep them at bay was to not act out of the ordinary. Her late showing wasn't a normal thing for her so Rebekah would have to make up for that soon. Another way to keep the Brothers off her back would be her performance when she and her group raided the shipment tomorrow night. Only then could she see Seth without the others getting suspicious.

Rebekah couldn't get any sleep so the female spent her time in the dark room on her laptop. The first thing she did was search for any missing people reported over the last year. She was surprised on how many reports popped up but none of the pictures looked like Seth. Then again, the female really didn't know what his face looked like since he kept it covered up. All Rebekah could go on was that whoever he was hadn't been reported missing.

The next thing Rebekah would try was to look for anything resembling the pattern Seth had drawn. Doing her best to replicate the pattern and scanning it for her computer to read, the female crossed her legs and propped her chin on top of her knuckles as she waited for her computer to scan the pattern she drew. Watching her computer scanning, the screen flashed it was done and began searching for similarities. Rebekah eyed the screen as pictures from old relics or paintings in different cultures zoomed through until it came up with an error.

Shutting the laptop harder than she anticipated, Rebekah pushed the device aside and undid her hair as she laid back. She laid on her back in her bed for a second before reaching back for her laptop and balancing it on her stomach as she reopened it to stare at the picture. The pattern was made in complex series of circles and other shapes. Some intertwined while a couple curled around the edges. The pattern itself was small that Rebekah got the feeling this might been like an edge or tiny piece of whatever Seth intended to draw.

Rebekah remembered the seizure.

Seth had to have remembered something but was prevented by that fucking buzzing in his head. Then he drew this strange pattern while he was seizing. Things weren't adding up and it was frustrating Rebekah. Another thing that frustrated her was that she was actually worried about the lesser's wellbeing. Strange how she had just met Seth and he was already playing with her mind. She worried that he might've been found by a group of lessers and was taken or that he wouldn't want to find out about himself after his seizure. Rebekah knew she would've freaked out if getting a shred of memory resulted in pain.

As Rebekah stared at the pattern, something about it kept nagging her. Grabbing the laptop and sitting back up, she leaned so close to the screen that her nose brushed against its smooth surface. She then leaned back as if seeing it from a further distance might help. The method worked because the female took her laptop and placed it at the foot of her bed before scooting back to the other end. The pattern was so small that she finally got the idea that this pattern was only a tiny portion of a small piece of a pattern. It was the end the pattern that kept tricking her up so now she knew the piece she had might've been like the finishing touches of something.

Rebekah realized why her mind was telling her where she had seen this.

The female had seen something quite similar to this pattern.

She had seen the female Sayge preform one of her seals once. The designs had been extraordinary and beautiful. The color of gold, the seals formed smooth yet jagged patterns.

Rebekah had also seen the similar pattern seven months ago.

It was during Edynn and Adam's mating ceremony that she had seen it. And the pattern wasn't on any clothing or an item. The pattern had been tattooed on the left side of the male's chest.

The pattern wasn't a complete match but had a similarity to Adam's tattoo.

Tired. He was very tired. He didn't want to continue.

Guns fired in the distance. Bullets whizzed past his head. Men from both sides ran to the center. He looked around as flashes of blue ran past him. He had orders so he ran.

No more. He wanted to scream no more.

He brought his rifle up to fire. An explosion went off in front of him. A man in gray fell.

Another man in the same color ran up to him.

He felt the knife puncture his heart.

Seth woke up screaming and clutching his chest.

Sliding up against the pile and kicking himself upright, he clawed away at his chest until the feeling of the knife entering his body faded. Gasping for air, heat crept over his body that Seth ripped off the two jacket he was wearing and tossed aside the scarf. He frantically ran his hands through the long tangle of hair before clutching his head. The buzzing was back but it was growing silent by the second. Soon it was only Seth's loud breathing he heard.

The lesser placed his hands over his chest as he recalled the strange dream. Seth pressed his hands hard over his chest even though he knew his heart was no longer there. It was just that it almost felt like something was beating hard against his chest that Seth knew it was a trick of his mind. However, it felt so real that he crawled up to his feet and limped over to one of the boarded windows. Shards of glass remained while splinters had fallen off the wood so rays of sunlight found its way inside.

There was a large piece of glass intact that Seth was able to see his face. Most of his face at the most. A piece of cloth was wrapped around the left side of his face to hide his left eye since it was gone. Large pale scars ran under the cloth as did a few around his right eye. The lessers had been close to taking that one when the lesser he remembered by the name of Mr. R said to leave it. In return for keeping his right eye, his captors began slashing away at his stomach and began opening him up. The sounds Seth made hadn't been human ones but nearly animalistic.

The lessers had to gag him since he had been close to ripping off a hand with his teeth.

Seeing through his right eye was a bit difficult. One of the scars ran over his eyelid that the cut that had inflicted the mark had nicked his eyes. The nick had been enough to mess up Seth's last hope of vision. His sight would go in an out to where he could barely make things far away. Something had to be close up to his face for him to see it perfectly.

Running his hand over a scar peeking at the edge of the cloth, he drew back his hand and reached for the scarf on the floor. He then began to wrap it around his neck and up until it rested just under his nose. Grabbing a fistful of hair and untangling the pieces from the scarf, Seth then placed the jackets back on and covered his head with the hoodie.

Seth limped back to his corner behind the pile and crouched down in his position. This was the position he took every time he resumed consciousness and found himself chained up in his cage. It allowed him to lunge at his captors when they came in only to take him back to the room where they would torture him. After a few incidents, the lessers learned to drug him before removing him from his cage. They would then drug him again or just drag him back to the dark room after passing out on that cold table. Then he would retake to the position with those shackles tight around his wrists and neck.

There was no way in hell he was going back to sleep. The reason why Seth had refused at first to sleep was in fear that he would awaken to find himself once again chained in that terrible room. Now he was afraid to sleep because of the dream he had. Because Seth couldn't remember anything except for his time with his captors, the lesser had no clue what to make of the dream. The best solution he would have was to ask Rebekah what it meant and hope she would know what to do.

He placed too much in Rebekah. Seth knew his flaw but couldn't help himself. The female was helping him when she could've just killed him. She was a good person with a broken heart and it was because lessers had taken someone precious from her. Seth knew he could never understand a lost one but he got the idea when he noticed how distant Rebekah sounded when she spoke of this Sam person.

Seth didn't know how but he would make it up to her. Rebekah was taking so much risks for him that he would find a way to thank her. Perhaps this dream would be a nice way of showing his thanks. Then again, it had been weird and confusing that he shook his head a disagreement. Seth would just makeup something if she asked since the dream was probably rubbish. Either way, the lesser would come up with something to give her as a sign of appreciation.

Taking a steady breath, Seth cleared his mind and stared into oblivion as he awaited Rebekah's arrival.
