Once again, I do not own Twilight.

Thank you for reading.

Though Reina and Sam had seemingly found some common ground she still wasn't too keen on having the boys around and she especially wasn't okay with the idea of Anna hanging around with them, especially without her there. She had been successful at keeping the visits confined to her home, but she couldn't keep it that way forever. Sam continued to insist on a get together at his place and Anna's puppy dog put was all it took for Rei to cave.

It was Friday, school was out for the weekend and Reina was told the majority of the pack, minus the few on patrol, would be present for a special meal dedicated to both Anna and herself. Sam had called it a welcoming dinner, but Rei felt anything but welcome as she pulled into Sam's driveway. A few pack members, all of whom were shirtless, were waiting for them on the porch. All but one was tensed and obviously uncomfortable. Seth was the exception. He was practically bouncing in place with excitement. He couldn't wait for Anna to come and meet everyone.

As Rei parked Sam walked out of his home with a large smile on his face that was obviously supposed to make her feel better. It wasn't working. Anna shot out of the truck the first chance she got. Rei had to fight the urge to jerk her back in and take off like a bat out of hell, but the best she could do at the moment was strap her pistol to her side and calm her breathing. It's not normal for people to just go walking into the lion's den with a smile on their face but a pistol made much more sense.

Sam met her with a warm smile and open arms. The gesture screamed peace, but his smell set off the alarms in Reina's head. She had to remember what was at stake here. Anna was now smack dab in the middle of fairytale central, and Reina still hadn't been able to make up a good enough excuse to pack up and take off. So she had to suck it up and make nice.

"I'm glad you could make it Reina."

"I can't really say the same, but at least Anna is happy."

"We can both agree there." Rei followed him inside where she was introduced to the pack. Sam's fiancée greeted her with a bone crushing hug that freaked the daylights out of her, but she had to fight back a smile when she caught a glimpse of Sam's face, which showed more surprise than she felt. The rest, Jared, his girlfriend Kim, Quil, Embry, Paul, Seth, and Leah, who freaked Rei out the most, all said polite hellos but kept their distance. Rei kept a close watch on her sister throughout the entire meal, and was almost proud at how well she interacted with everyone around her. They accepted her so easily and treated her like family. It killed Rei inside that Anna had to grow up without this kind of interaction, dealing only with a closed off sister and a handful of paranoid hunters. Rei knew it would be even harder now for her to take Anna away when the time came.

Once the meal was over and night began to descend Anna and Reina began to say their goodbyes. Seth walked Anna to the truck while Rei and Sam stayed back on the porch.

"I am very glad the two of you could make it tonight. You both have an open invitation and can stop by whenever you like."

"Thanks," Rei muttered, "I'm sure Anna will want to come back soon." She couldn't look him in the eyes as she spoke. So far he had kept his word, and he and his pack seemed to be no threat to either Anna or Reina, but that wasn't the danger she was worried about.

"Look-" Rei wanted to negotiate. To tell him her one condition if they wanted Anna around, but she was interrupted by a large hulking figure crashing out of the woods. He sauntered up to where Rei and Sam stood, shooting hellos and quick jabs at the boys hanging around outside. She assumed he was one of the wolves on patrol, but there was something different about this one.

"Sam." his voice was velvet to her ears and as she looked up into his eyes everything seemed to slow down. Her mind seemed scrambled. He was so beautiful and she just couldn't remember what she was going to say.

"Jacob," Sam responded, only his words seemed to fall on deaf ears. The boy, man, that Sam referred to as Jacob just stood there, rooted to the spot. It looked as though he was tethered to the earth by a single string, and if that string were to be cut he would float off into the abyss and be lost forever. He shook himself out of his trance and found his footing. The string was gone and his easy going demeanor gone with it. His eyes became hard, and his voice lost its smooth tone.

"No," he practically shouted. "No, this is not happening!" he turned tail and ran back into the woods. Rei could feel the air shift when he changed, but he left a feeling behind that she was totally unfamiliar with, he left behind a sick empty feeling in the pit of her stomach.

She turned to look at Sam, "Who the fuck was that?" Her voice shook. He made her nervous, even more so that the pack of wolf-men surrounding her and that was not okay.

Sam sighed, obviously distraught by the current situation. "That was Jacob Black." He ran his hand through his hair and looked at her, but when her eyes met his there was something different in them. He was confused, but there was also a new kind of determination that wasn't there before. "He's a good kid. He's just going through some things."

"Uh, yeah." Rei still couldn't shake the uneasy feeling that had settled down inside of her. "Whatever we need to get going." She quickly made her way to her truck. The pack's eyes were on her as she slammed the door and made a hasty retreat.

What the hell was that about? She thought as she tore down Sam's gravel driveway.

"Who was that?" Anna asked, "I've never seen him before."

"Jacob Black." Her stomach clenched at his name, "Have you heard of him?"

"Yeah," she scrunched her nose, "Seth told me about him. He said he was in love with some girl who didn't love him back and that he's really sad all the time."

"Well that sucks."
