Hey everybody! I know that I haven't updated in what seems like forever, and I truly am sorry. It's not because I forgot, had writers block, or just didn't want to write. Truthfully, it was because of a lot of things. I'm a second year student nurse so I have classes, labs, clinical, and obviously studying. On top of that I still have to work on assignments due for the classes and clinical, grown-up responsibilities (ugh!), as well as still working 20+ hour weeks. I honestly don't even get time to get enough sleep, let alone update my story. But the good news is, my busiest months are almost over so I should hopefully be able to update more frequently!

Thanks for all of the follows, favorites, and reviews, and I hope you enjoy this long chapter (I wrote it while I should be studying for my pathophysiology exam tomorrow morning.)

Thanks!

As the seconds seemed to drag on, Danny bounced from foot to foot in anticipation, but no matter how much bouncing he done, the butterflies he had in his stomach didn't seem to go away. If he was excited or nervous, he wasn't sure. Whatever the feeling in his stomach was, he just wanted to get out there and start the mission! Despite what people may think, Danny never really was a patient person.

"Recognized: Batman, 02"

"Computer, file number B027." After receiving the command, a holographic computer screen appeared seemingly out of nowhere displaying the file number. "Open." Then 3 more screens appeared out of nowhere. Danny was absolutely amazed by this technology. It is so much more advanced than what they have at home.

"The Watchtower picked up a major power surge with a reading unlike any we have ever recorded in the town of Salem, Massachusetts."

Danny's eyes widened. "Wait a second. Salem, Massachusetts. As in the Salem, Massachusetts. Site of the Salem witch trials!?"

"I take it you've heard of it then?" Batman asked.

"Well yeah! Everybody knows about it! I was even there at one point during the witch trials." Seeing everyone's shocked expression Danny added "Don't ask. Very long and complicated story."

"So, you mean to tell me that your dimension has a Salem as well as the historic Salem Witch hunt and trials?" Asked Kid Flash.

Danny nodded. "Yeah. Wasn't exactly a pleasant experience, trust me. I won't be vacationing there at that period in time anytime soon."

"Well you don't have to worry about that now. Salem is now mostly a tourist attraction. With regards to the mission, the team is to gather as much information as possible. Utilize power scanners, observe the area, ask around if need be – anything to complete the mission and ensure the safety of the people there. This is a covert mission to be carried out in civvies, and as such you will not engage unless given the all clear by me. Am I understood?" After receiving nods of understanding from the team, Batman turned and headed back towards the Zeta tubes. "You leave in the morning. Dismissed." With those last words, the Dark Knight disappeared.

Turning, the team faced Danny with questioning looks. "I guess you guys want to know about my experience in the witch trials huh?"

"That would be a start. How could you have been at the Salem witch trials? They happened in the late 1600's!" Artemis replied.

Danny released a sigh. "Remember how I told you about the Infi-map? Well while chasing Plasmius through the Ghost Zone we went through one of the natural portals and ended up in Salem during the witch trials. Apparently they don't like ghosts too much either, found that out the hard way." Suddenly Danny remembered something Batman said during the briefing." Hey guys, what's a Watchtower?"

"The Justice League's headquarters." Superboy simply stated.

"Yeah, and it's in space!" Wally injected. "We were their partners and they never even told us!"

Danny's eyes immediately lit up. "You mean it's actually in space? That's so cool! I always loved space and the stars, that's why I want to be an astronaut, maybe even be one of the first to land on Mars!"

"I can tell you from experience, Mars isn't anything like Earth." Miss Martian said with a hint of sadness to her voice. "There's nothing left there. It's just so bleak and… dead. Why do you think me, like so many others, left there?"

Danny looked at her with such genuine interest that the resident Martian felt a little unsettled over this display. "You mean you're an actual Martian!? That's incredible! I guess that explains the whole green-skinned thing huh? What is space like? Is it actually endless? How much of it is explored in this universe? And the most important question: How easy is it to get into space for, someone like, oh I dunno, me?"

Miss Martian stood there looking completely overwhelmed while Danny stared at her with such fascination that he looked like a 5-year old who just met his favorite superhero. The silence in the room was almost palpable, only broken by the laughter of Kid Flash, followed by Robin and eventually the rest of the team, leaving the Martian and the resident ghost to look at them confusedly.

Robin walked up to the two and placed a hand on Danny's shoulder. "Come on, we gotta head back. You can fanboy over Miss M here anytime you want. Training with Bats however, you can't be late for."

"But we just trained for, like, ever!" Danny groaned.

"If you think that little bit of training will be enough to get you out of training with Bats, then you're dead wrong. Um, no pun intended." Robin answered, then he directed his attention to the blonde archer. "Artemis. Walk and talk." Artemis looked to her team-mates, all of whom wore equal expressions of confusion. "Come on Artemis!" Robin called over his shoulder. Artemis reluctantly followed the Boy Wonder and the floating specter.

Once they reached the zeta-tubes, Robin grinned at her, put in the code for Gotham, then they all disappeared in a flash of light.

"Recognized: Robin, B01. Recognized: Artemis, B07. Recognized: Phantom, B08"

After the three team members exited the tiny phone booth, Artemis crossed her arms and glared at the youngest team member. "Alright pipsqueak, start talking. Why did you want me to follow you all the way to Gotham?"

"Well Gotham is where you live." Robin replied, earning a shocked expression from Artemis and a confused one from Danny.

"How did you know that!?"

"I'm a detective, remember?"

Artemis narrowed her eyes toward the short vigilante. "So is that why you wanted me to follow you, so you can tell me all you know and report it to the rest of the team?"

"No, you don't have to worry about that. In my opinion, everybody is entitled to a secret or two. Heck I sure have a few! It's your secret to tell, not mine. Besides," Robin turned to offer a genuine smile to the archer, "I trust you."

Artemis' hard expression fell into one of disbelief, shock and relief. He knew her background and yet still chose to trust her?

"And it is because I trust you that I will give you some information that you cannot tell the team unless my life depends on it. Do you understand?" Once Robin received a head nod from the girl, he continued. "As you know, Batman has taken Phantom in to provide him with a home, education and all that stuff. And once you go home, I'm sure you will most likely see Danny on TV and will subsequently deduce the identities of Batman and myself." Artemis' eyes widened once she processed the meaning behind Robin's words. "But I would rather tell you myself, but not here. Follow me."

The three of them walked down (well, Phantom floated) to the end of the alley, took a series of seemingly meaningless turns and alleys until they came up to what looked like an old sealed off access tunnel.

"This is a dead end Robin. Do you even know where you're going?"

Grinning, Robin brought up his holographic computer and put in a series of codes. Once finished, a section of the concrete slid down into the ground, revealing a door which Robin walked towards with Artemis and Danny closely following behind. Once inside, the door closed behind them leaving them momentarily in the dark, with Danny's aura providing the only source of light.

Artemis looked at Danny with a grin. "At least we have a night-light."

"Haha, like I never heard that one before. Where are we anyway Robin?"

"Computer, lights on." Robin commanded, resulting in the lights immediately turning on to reveal a small room with a large computer and a few gadgets. "This is the emergency back-up Batcave. Not as elaborate or cool as the original, but it allows us to grab more gear or research if we need to. It also serves as a hiding place in case the actual Batcave's location is somehow compromised. Batman likes to always be prepared in the case of an emergency."

"Wow, impressive. So are we going to continue our discussion or not?" Artemis asked the boy wonder.

Robin grinned. "If you think you can handle it." The blonde placed her hands on her hips as a response. "Alright, alright. As you know, I live in Gotham with Batman, and before you ask, he isn't my father; at least not biologically."

"You mean you're adopted? Huh, I never thought Batman the kind of guy to do anything of that nature. But I guess he did take Phantom in, no questions asked."

"Yeah. Batman adopted me after my parents died when I was 9. He was in attendance when it happened, and he decided to take me in. I had no family left."

"So when you said he was 'in attendance', did you mean he was fighting a bad guy that caused it or what?"

"Like I said, he was in attendance, meaning he was there but never participated. My parents were putting on a trapeze show, which ended up being sabotaged by a crook named Tony Zucco. During their performance, the line gave way and…They fell."

Artemis and Danny looked at the young teen with shock evident on their faces. Danny obviously knew Dick was adopted, but he never knew the circumstances behind it. Not once did Danny picture that as the Boy Wonder's life before Batman. Artemis on the other hand was shocked due to two things:

One, Robin had freely opened up to her about his past and actually trusting her. It surprised her that the usually guarded teen was opening up to the archer who he knew had a questionable background at best.

And two, Artemis had heard this story before. She remembered the story of when two well-known trapeze artists who fell to their deaths while performing in Gotham. Did that mean Robin…

"So, does that, I mean, are you who I think you are?"

"Depends on who you think I am."

Artemis stared at the young ebony-haired boy, no doubt in her mind as to who Robin actually is. Answering his question, she replied by saying, "Richard Grayson." Once the words were out of her mouth, a small smile appeared on the masked heroes eyes as he reached one gloved hand up and began to pull off his mask, revealing to Artemis brilliantly blue eyes.

"I thought I told you earlier that I prefer Dick, not Richard. And before you ask: Yes, Bruce Wayne is Batman."

"So why are you telling me all this? Why not tell the entire team? It only seems fair if you told them since you know theirs."

Dick sighed. He knew this question was going to come up, and no matter how often he thought about it, he could never come up with a satisfying answer that wouldn't make him seem self-centered. "I'm telling you because of a few reasons, really. One: You are from Gotham and go to school with civilian me, and it would make things easier on the three of us if we weren't constantly throwing out lies and putting up false fronts. Two: Even if you didn't know civilian me you would still recognize Danny as soon as he showed up on TV with me and Bruce, eventually figuring us out. So telling you avoids you finding out yourself and possibly even revealing it to the team when I'm not ready to do so myself. And three: if anything were to happen to either Danny or myself, you would know how we would want in handled. You will have help from Wally at this point as well."

"What!? You mean Wally, of all people, knows and he hasn't spilled the beans yet? How could you let him in on your ID and not the rest of us?!"

Dick raised an eyebrow at the archer, wondering if he should tell her the story or not. He decided on the not.

"Things happened, that's all. Honestly, I'm surprised Wally managed to keep it a secret this long, but if you fear the wrath of the Bats, I guess you would keep quiet too. Haha!" Suddenly, the eyes of the young teen in front of them seemed to grow sad and scared right in front of them. "Trust me, I would love to tell the team who I am, but I'm also unsure of the reactions if I did tell them. I'm treated as an equal on the team, but if they were to find out who I am, I'm afraid they will treat me differently; as the ward of Gotham's resident millionaire instead of Robin, the person on the team doing this the longest and with more than his fair share of scars."

The room went quiet, with only the buzz of the lights overhead echoing throughout.

"Soooo…. Who's this 'Wally' I keep hearing about? Should I know who he is?" Danny asked the two teens, quickly becoming bored of just listening to them talk.

"He's Kid Flash. We never introduced you to the regular side of the team have we?" Dick mentioned, receiving a small head shake from the floating teen. "Well, we can do that before the mission tomorrow, but right now, we have to get to training with Batman. Hey Artemis, we don't have time to head back with you so can you handle yourself?"

"Of course I can. I'm no damsel!"

"Alright then. Come on Danny, we got a long trip."

"Would it be easier if I just flew us there? I mean, it makes sense to me anyway." Danny asked, giving his input. "Last time I clocked myself – which was a while ago actually – I could fly at 112mph. That should be fast enough right?"

Dick looked like a child at Christmas, with his huge grin and eyes showing that he had no wish to decline the offer. "No arguing here, let's go!"

Danny held his hands out to his teammates. "Here, I'll phase us through the wall. Just to warn you, you may feel cold and tingly when I turn us intangible." Dick hurriedly grabbed Danny's hand and looked at Artemis who was slowly reaching her hand out. Danny, deciding to have a little fun, sprang forward and grabbed her by the wrist, turned them all intangible, and flew them straight through the wall and into the dark Gotham sky. Dick was laughing while enjoying the view and the experience, but Artemis had her eyes clamped shut.

"Come on Artemis, don't be like that. You know that I won't let you fall. Can you open your eyes and enjoy the view?" Artemis still refused to open her eyes. "Please?" Danny flew in the direction pointed out to him by the (now masked) Boy Wonder, taking his time in case Artemis decided to open her eyes. Eventually, Danny's patience was rewarded when he heard a small, amazed gasp come from the blonde. Judging by the look on her face, she was enjoying the view. If there were ever any reason for Danny to go for a fly around town, it would be because a view like this made all his worries just melt away, and then he could truly relax.

"Beautiful isn't it?" Danny asked the two teens 'flying' next to him.

"Who knew that a place as dark and twisted as Gotham could look so amazing?" Artemis replied.

"Seeing things from above allows you to see things as whole, rather than its individual parts. Because of this, you see more of the beauty."

"AHHHHHH!"

Danny sighed. "And unfortunately, you get a bird's eye view when things do go wrong. Hang on tight!" Danny repositioned the three of them so that he can make a controlled dive toward the source of the disturbance. "I'm going to turn us invisible so try not to let go of me or speak." Danny explained as he turned the small group invisible while continuing down to street level. Once they came close to the ground, Danny chose to hover while looking and listening for the source of the scream. He didn't have to wait long.

"NO! Wait! Please stop it! Leave me alone! Ahh!"

"This way!" Danny exclaimed as he invisibly towed his passengers in the direction they heard the scream. Turning a corner, they saw a group of three masked me in black leather jackets 'playing' with a young women who was crying and now bound and gagged. Danny felt his anger rise within him. Whispering an order of "Stay here while I take care of these losers" Danny let go of Robin and Artemis and invisibly made his way toward the men. Once he got close to them, he decided to torture them like they tortured this innocent woman.

Still holding onto his invisibility, he began to speak. "What do you three idiots think you're doing?" All three of the men looked up from their 'plaything' and scanned their surroundings for the intruder. They looked confusedly at each other once they realized that there was nobody there.

"Look at me when I'm talking to you!"

"Do you hear that too, or am I going insane?" asked the first thug. The second thug replied with "Just ignore it. We have something we're here to do." The two thugs grinned and reached for the woman curled up against the wall with malicious intent. Seeing this, Danny flew in front of the woman and grabbed their wrists, halting their advance.

"What the!? What's going on?" The first thug questioned.

"Whoever is there, show yourself!" the second thug yelled.

Danny allowed himself to fade into visibility. He glared at the two thugs still gripping their wrists, all his anger showing through the fire of his eyes.

"Keh. Nice trick kid. Now get out of my way before I have to hurt you." The second thug threatened.

"Sorry dude, but I'm not going to stand by and watch you to take advantage of a woman. You people are the lowest of scum."

"Can't say that I never warned you kid." With that, the second thug threw his fist toward Danny's face. Keeping his glare, Danny turned intangible and allowed the punch to pass harmlessly through him. Once he pulled his fist back, Danny returned to tangibility and grinned while still managing to convey his anger through the look in his eyes as well as the new sudden drop in temperature.

"Nice try. My turn!"

"Aw man that was awesome! You totally kicked their butts!" Artemis said between giggles as the image of the two beat up and scared thugs flashed through her mind.

"They are definitely not feeling the aster." Robin chuckled.

"Well, they had it coming. Besides, those guys are nothing compared to the ghosts I fought back home."

"You can put me down there on that rooftop. My place is just around the corner."

Danny nodded and swooped down to the specified rooftop, allowing Artemis to gently touch down.

"You boys better hurry if you don't want to face the wrath of the Bat." Artemis yelled over her shoulder as she ran to the edge of the roof. The two boys watched as she leaped over the edge and disappeared. Robin looked over at Danny with a mischievous grin. "So, how fast did you say you could go?"

Danny smiled at him, readjusted his grip, and took off into Gotham's night sky.

Kid Flash, Artemis, M'gann, and Superboy all turned their attention to the zeta-tube, watching as two outlines made their way into the room. KF and Artemis chuckled a little when they saw their resident ghost walk in all hunched over and tired looking. M'gann on the other hand gasped and flew over to him.

"Oh my gosh Danny, what happened to you!?" Danny gave an annoyed look to his 'brother', resulting in said teen to laugh and happily explain that it is a result of training with Batman this morning.

"Ha ha! He may be powerful and near unstoppable when he can use his powers, but put him in a Bat-training session without allowing him to use his powers, he's almost as bad as Wally at hand-to-hand combat." This comment resulted in an unhappy 'Hey!' to come from the speedster.

Danny raised a confused eyebrow to the speedster, feigning innocence and betraying nothing to the fact that Robin had filled him in on the names and backstory of all the members of the Young Justice team. Kid Flash didn't understand Danny's look of confusion at first, but after mentally replaying what just happened in his head, a look of understanding flashed across the red-heads face.

The speedster made his way over to the bruised, but not as bruised as a minute ago, teen and pulled his mask down to reveal the freckled face beneath. "Um, so I sort of just realized that we didn't really introduce ourselves properly. The name's Wally West." Wally smiled and offered his hand to the team's newest member, who also smiled and accepted the handshake."

"Hello Megan! Of course we forgot to introduce ourselves. My name is M'gann M'orzz, but you can call me Megan. It's an Earth name." Danny smiled and nodded at the bubbly green-skinned Martian girl. Megan flew over to Superboy. "And this is Superboy! He doesn't have an actual name yet, but we're working on it!" Once again Danny smiled and nodded. "Don't worry man, you'll get a cool name. Anything is better than Daniel…" This made Superboy grin. He liked this guy, even if he is only the size of a twig and looked as fragile as one. All eyes were now on Artemis. She sighed and pulled back her mask to show her face. "Yeah, hi. The name's Artemis Crock." Danny laughed at his teammate. "Not very original is it? How will people not know it's you under the mask?"

Artemis narrowed her eyes. She knew he was just playing around, but it was still a question that got on her nerves. "Gee, I don't know, maybe it's the same way people don't put Danny Fenton and Danny Phantom together, hmm?" Artemis gave a wicked grin to Danny, who just had a bored expression on his face. "True."

Recognized: Batman, 02.

"Robin, Phantom, Kid Flash, and Artemis. Get your gear together. You leave in 15 minutes. Miss Martian, configure the BioShip to allow Robin to pilot it."

"Umm, OK. But why are we not going?"

"Because in the event that this mission goes on into the late night or even into tomorrow, we don't want you two missing your first day of school at Happy Harbour High School."

Danny chuckled. "Yeah, wouldn't want you to miss one day of happy, therapy inducing school memories!" (Reference from 'Forever Phantom')

"Phantom, don't you have somewhere to be?" Batman asked his charge. Danny just shrugged and made his way to find Robin. After all, how was he supposed to know what Batman meant by 'getting their gear together'? This was his first mission! Lucky for him, Robin came out of a room carrying a small backpack and a medium sized box.

"Come on Danny, let's bring this to the BioShip and wait for the others. Artemis is just making sure she has enough arrows and Wally is probably already there waiting for us."

"Okay, but what's in the bag and box? We don't need that much stuff do we?"

"The bag has a change of clothes for the two of us since this mission was ordered to be carried out in civvies, as well as some extra supplies for my utility belt. The box is some medical supplies we needed to restock the BioShip with. Our last mission used a lot of supplies so we want to be sure we have enough available, just in case."

"Alright, makes sense. Here, let me carry the box. I do have super-strength after-all." Robin smiled and handed the box off to Danny, who accepted it with ease. After walking down a few hallways that Danny didn't recognize, they passed through a set of doors and entered the bay, where Miss Martian's ship was residing.

Danny looked everywhere for the ship, but saw nothing. "Um, Rob. Where is the BioShip? I don't see anything."

Robin laughed. "It's right there." He said while pointing at a blob of red. Danny raised a questioning eyebrow at the sight. "It don't exactly look very aerodynamic. You sure this thing can fly? I mean, where are the wings?"

"It's at rest silly." M'gann said as she appeared behind them. "Here, I'll wake it." With that, she raised her hand and the ship began to mold its shape into something more ship-like. "Okay, that's cool." Danny said as he watched the shifting of the BioShip occur.

"Okay, it's all done. You should be able to pilot it now Robin. Good luck and be safe okay!" Megan said as she hugged her teammates. Luckily for Wally he showed up in time to get in on the action. Artemis still hasn't arrived.

"Alright, let's put this stuff aboard. Artemis should be here in a minute." Robin suggested as the three boys made their way up the ramp of the BioShip. Not a minute later, Artemis showed up and the team quickly put their stuff away so they could begin their mission. To the team, this was a routine mission, but to Danny, it was his first mission and he couldn't seem to sit still. He was bouncing with excitement, and some of his ghostly aura began to show itself through his human form due to his increase in energy from his excitement.

"Um, dude?" KF said questioningly to Danny, who looked back at the speedster with glowing green eyes. "You're eyes are glowing green, and you're body is glowing. It's kind of weird to see when you, you know, look all human and stuff."

Danny looked down at his hands and, sure enough, they were glowing. "Hmm, that's a first." Danny said, before transforming into Phantom. "That shouldn't look as weird now. This okay KF?"

"That's better I guess, but it's still weird. You're still glowing more than you usually do, like a walking light bulb. No offense man, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole 'ghosts exist' thing. It's not exactly a normal occurrence in our dimension, y'know."

"Don't worry about it. Until about a year ago, even people in my dimension didn't believe ghosts existed. I mean, people like my parents did, but they were labeled crackpots by society. Their research had no real basis because ghosts are seen as past lives, memories, or obsessions who were tied to this world for some reason and just manifested. No biological base or reason, just, bam! Here we are." KF nodded in understanding, and Danny turned to look out of the window, his thoughts returning to his home and wondering if everybody was safe from a certain fruit-loop.

He wasn't sure how long he was spaced out for, but a strange sight from below him caught his eye. 'What is that? A localized distortion? Heat waves? Is it even abnormal around here?'

"Hey guys, is that a normal occurrence in your dimension?" Danny asked uncertainly while looking out of his window

Robin, Artemis, and Kid Flash looked down from their windows in the BioShip to get a better look at what Danny saw. What they did see was an area of the local park they were flying over that had, what looked like, a localized area of heat waves.

Kid Flash pulled down his goggles and set them to infra-red. "It looks like heat waves, but the reading is showing something completely opposite. The temperature around it is like, fridge temperature."

"So, what exactly is going on down there?" Asked Artemis.

"Only one way to find out." Robin said with a grin. "I'm going to land the BioShip over there so we can check it out."

Once Robin landed the ship, the team cautiously exited via the ramp. Robin led the way with a scanner and air sampler to be sure there was no radioactivity or poisonous gas, only stopping once they were 4 feet from the center of the disturbance and Robin gave the all clear.

"So fearless leader, what do we do now? We can't exactly just go up and touch it can we?" Kid Flash asked Robin with a hint of teasing.

Robin raised his right hand and allowed his holographic computer to pop up. He pressed a few 'keys', then a wide red laser-beam shot out and scanned the disturbance. Once Robin's glove displayed the scans results, his brows furrowed in confusion. "This makes no sense. It's stable but unstable at the same time. What's this?!" With this exclamation, the teens stared at the 13-year old with a mixture of fear, confusion, and determination.

"What is it Rob?" Kid Flash asked, voice full of uncertainty.

"This thing is giving off trace amounts of Zeta and Gamma radiation!"

"WHAT?! Oh no no. We can NOT be dealing with that! It's straight out of science fiction man!"

Danny and Artemis looked at each other and shrugged. "Um guys? Yeah, Artemis and I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Mind filling us in a bit here?"

Robin looked at KF then back to the other two teens. "In theory, it's what you would expect to find being emitted by a time machine."

Artemis raised an eyebrow. "Really guys? Time travel?"

"Hey Danny done it! Who's to say that we can't do it, only using slightly different methods." KF retorted toward Artemis.

"He has a point you know, even though I didn't technically time travel." Danny pointed out before turning his attention toward the Boy Wonder. "So what do we do?"

"We observe only. Direct orders from Batman remember. Besides, it is too dangerous to -" Robin was cut off by a sudden change in the aura of the disturbance. The team frighteningly took a few steps back and watched as a bright light was emitted from its very center and expanded vertically. Everybody got into fighting positions, prepared to face whatever may come through that thing. But as it continued to change, Danny started to drop his stance as he began to recognize it.

"I think I recognize that thing, and if I'm right then I have to get them to stand down. Maybe I'll just wait a few more seconds to be sure. Don't want to put them in any danger." Danny thought to himself.

The disturbance's light, which started out as a small vertical bluish-white light, now expanded to reveal a green center, and was growing fast.

"Okay, who's the idiot who tore a hole in the space-time continuum?" Joked Kid Flash.

"Wait! Stand down and don't attack whatever may come through! I recognize that thing! It's not a really a tear, it's a portal!"

"A portal!?"
