"Talking"

Chapter Seven - What in Thor s Name?

General Perspective:

Since that morning, the day had been nothing but a blur to Hiccup. He can not quite get over the fact that the very thing he thought was supposedly fictitious was only not very real and he held it in his hand, but that it had been lodged inside of Toothless's throat. He could barely recall himself telling the others about what happened, their questioning looks turning into faces of shock as he told them, and their varying reactions afterwards. Astrid had questions pouring out of her head and Fishlegs even more so. Snotlout was complaining on how he wasn't chosen while the twins were headbutting eachother, talking about what trouble they could cause with the amulet.

After he got done what he needed to get done today, Hiccup trudged back to the house, with the weight of the world on his shoulders. By then, Toothless had been moved from the ground outside to the floor in Hiccup's room. He talked with his father about everyday things, not wanting his father to know about what happened just yet. After he and his father had dinner, they both turned in for the night, with Hiccup falling into a restless sleep. Later that night, movement stirred in the room, not from Hiccup, but from Toothless.

The movements are almost unnoticeable at first, but its the first sign of any for over twenty-four hours. His movements become more pronounced and erratic as the seconds tick by in the night. It gets the point where he is convulsing on the floor. He is convulsing in a violent manner, with the center of it being his throat. This continued on for a few more seconds until it suddenly stops, his body going limp once more. He then, slowly but surely, raised his head and opened his eyes.

From Toothless's Perspective:

The world slowly formed around him as he slowly wakes up to it, not remembering what had happened from the day before. Then, as if flood gates had been opened wide, they came pouring and rushing in like torrential waters. The memories of the thing in the air, his attempts to retrieve it, and what happened after he accidentally swallowed it suddenly came back to him. In panic, he looks around his environment, trying to discern where he is, knowing that he s not in the same spot as before. Seeing that he's inside Hiccups room, with his rider sleeping not too far from him, relieved Toothless considerably.

Something doesn't feel right though, how did he end up in his human's room? Surely he didn't know where he was unless he stumbled upon where he was laying. If that were the case, then he couldn't have brought him here by himself with his weak, gangly arms, no offence to him or anything though. So it means that he must've came back with some other Vikings to transport him back to the village.

With that concern out of the way, he still has one more thing to worry about. He still has to get that strange and mysterious object out of his throat. He attempted to regurgitate it out onto the floor, only to find that he can no longer feel it in him. A unpleasant thought than formed in his mind. Did the humans reach into him and pull the object out of his throat while he was unconscious?

The thought of it alone disgusted him, but there was no other explanation for it's sudden absence. The dragon felt violated that a human would just do something that invasive to him, and without his consent at all! However, before he could do anything about it to rectify it, he heard his stomach growling. Immediately forgetting about his previous thought, he realized he hasn't eaten for however long he was out for. He wanted so badly to get out of the house and catch himself some fish as a meal, but in fear of waking up Hiccup, he decided against it and thought it was best to wait until the morning.

He laid himself down, deciding to take a look around the room before he went back to sleep. Something on the walls caught his eyes. It was the many pieces of this stuff called 'paper' that his human had stuck to the wall. On each piece of paper was a drawing of both things he vaguely recognized and found unfamiliar. He really hadn't taken the time to look around the room properly before, always too busy dragging Hiccup outside so they could fly together, high in the skies above Berk. Now that he did have the time though, he noticed and sensed something oddly out of place.

He'd just realized that he could somehow understand the strange masses, made up of lines and shapes, that were seen on the sides of the drawings now. Hed seen that indiscernible mass in Hiccup's journal plenty of times before, but only now can he understand it. This wasn't natural at all, and Toothless knew it all too well. No dragon should of been capable of something that the humans called 'reading'. Only humans are supposed to be capable of doing this and yet here is the Night Fury 'reading'.

Toothless cooed curiously, but instead of the sound of cooing, something completely unexpected and unbelievable came out. "What in Thor s name-," he quickly cut himself off. Did he just hear himself speak in a human voice? The dragon was immediately shocked by this revelation, but refuses to believe it at all. Nonetheless, he uses all his will power to try speaking in this voice again. "I-I can talk like the h-humans...?" the dragon said meekly, barely above a whisper.

His whole world and own sense of reality came crashing down upon and around him instantly. He doesn't know what to do. He couldn't do anything at the moment except for one single thing. He takes a deep breath, rears his head back, and screams as loud as he can. He screams an alarmed and panicked Night Fury screech
