Chapter Seven: The Ice Had Melted
"I've had enough," Ai loudly said, looking to the other side with his bangs covering his eyes. The cool summer breeze flew by the room, making Haruka's hair flow along with the wind, clearly revealing her confused, disturbed face. She tried to release herself from his grasp but his grip just slowly tightened, enough to hurt.
"A-Ai-kun, please let go. It hurts," she silently declared, wincing in obvious sharp pain. His eyes softened as he let go of her hand. The shorter girl immediately stuck her hand near her chest covering her wrist as pain covered her face. Her kind eyes wilted and were replaced with conscious and aware ones. The girl had raised her guard because of his sudden actions that shocked her. Sky blue orbs also widen in shock as the girl slapped his hand away. Caressing her own wrist, the man in front of her could only look at her with a frown and hopeful look.
"Do you like him?" he simply asked, his tone soft but serious, his robotic accent somehow visible and noticeable as he syllabicated and spoke the words. Golden irises looked up at him, sadly looking at him with eyes that looked like they were about to cry. Her face only grew sadder when it was her turn to talk.
"Why would you ask that?" as she pondered at him, unconscious tears fell down her cheeks. Her lips shivered at her own words as her skin grew cold. Ai could only look at her, as if daggers, the pain shot through his chest. Extending his hand to touch the girl, Haruka only walked a step backwards. The angel shook her head as she slowly turned her back and walked outside of the room. The sound of the door sliding close was the only thing that Ai could hear aside from the words that echoed inside his head.
"Why would you ask that?"
Ai looked at the ground, clenching his fist as he walked out of the room saying, "This is non-statistical." He knew that this wasn't like him. He knew that he acted so out of character. He was supposed to be cold and yet, why, was he acting this way? Confused, Ai narrowed his eyes. Scorn covered his face as he bit his lips. Just… what did he want from her?
Cring. Cring.
School had ended and awkwardness still surrounded Ai and Haruka. The girl immediately picked up her bag and went to the music room. Just as Ai had suspected, she was out to meet Ranmaru at their 'secret place' which was the third music room. Ai had a sad frown on his face, his eyes reflected with water as she made her way towards the door without even looking at him.
The teal haired teen bit his lips as he desperately ran after the girl mumbling words like 'No' along his way. The bitter tears finally flowed down his face as his monotone façade had finally disappeared. Finally arriving at the third music room, his feet stopped in front of the open door that revealed the figure he wanted to see the most and the one he mostly hated. For some reason… his feet didn't want to bring him inside. Although that was the case, he was near enough to hear their conversation.
"Will you play the piano once more, Haruka?" Ranmaru pleaded as he looked at her. The girl sat in front of the piano before taking a deep breath and nodding. Ai confusedly narrowed his eyes, he didn't exactly know what was happening before he had arrived so it was no wonder he didn't completely understand the situation.
She then asked a question that was meant for him, "What song should I play?" She then followed her inquiry with a soft smile dedicated to the piano, her elegant fingers crawling unto the keys. Hearing the piano produce a beautiful sound made Haruka beam a genuine smile for the first time of the day, Ranmaru simply admired and looked at her meters from afar.
"Anything would be fine," Ranmaru said looking out the window, acting as if he didn't care. His back was leaning against the wall, his gaze far away from the said pianist. Meanwhile, from the door, a certain teen couldn't help but murmur a small 'My song'. For a second, Ai wanted Haruka to play his song. The song she had dedicated to him when she was still originally alive.
"I made you a song, Ai-kun," a girl with slightly pink but reddish hair said, smiling as she held a couple of music sheets in her arms.
Haruka closed her eyes and started a familiar melody. Ai gasped while Ranmaru smiled a sad one.
Winter Blossom….
Still only at the beginning of the song, Ranmaru started to walk towards the door as he said, "If that is your choice then it couldn't he helped." Walking pass the door, he obviously noticed Ai and the shocked look plastered upon his face. Walking by the once frozen heart prince, he gave him a slight touch on his shoulder as he gave him 'the' look. As if communicating mentally, Ai agreed, nodding to his best friend's stare. Then, Ranmaru started to walk away, hands in his pockets while his head was hung low in order to hide the despaired look on his face.
A fourteen year old Haruka sobbed sitting on the side of her bed, tears flowed down her perfectly formed face, the tear drops falling unto her expensive chiffon dress. Beside her also sat her fiancé for about seven months, Kurosaki Ranmaru. To be honest, the male himself had already developed feelings for the said girl. He silently twitched as he placed his hand above her head, his tsundere-ness stopping him to caress her hair. To put it more simply, he just simply placed his hand above her head with no action going on.
His eyes looked a bit sad as he asked, "You loved him so why, why did you reject him?" The girl continued to sob as she personally wiped away her tears. Ranmaru looked a lot uncomfortable considering the fact that a girl, his fiancé, was crying in front of him and he couldn't do anything. He starts mumbling to himself things about suicide and killing his own self for being so useless but fortunately, Haruka is too busy crying that she hardly hears a thing.
"Well, I didn't want to hurt Ranmaru-kun. You are my fiancé so it would be my mistake to date another guy when I already belong to you," she stated making the boy gasp slightly blushing. A part of him was happy while another was hurt. She loved 'him', not him. I guess this is what people are talking about, killing two birds with one stone. Talk about one-sided love and one-sided relationship, just how unlucky could he get?
Ranmaru sighed as he said, "Well what about this, I tell my father that the arrangement is off and you go to him then you two start to date. What about that?" Haruka shook her head and the male once again sighed. Any suggestion with this girl was futile and nothing was living up to her taste. Ranmaru groaned as he thought of a plan that would make the girl feel better.
And that was when she said 'that'….
"Ranmaru-kun," Haruka started with her statement making Ranmaru hum in response, his expression carefree as ever. "Will you wait for me? I mean, it would take time for me to like you but please, until I develop my feelings for you, will you stay by my side?" she continued her statement with a question. Ranmaru backed away a centimeter when he saw her eyes that were pleading with honesty and devotion. With a blush on his face, he silently nodded at her suggestion.
"You promise?"
"I promise,"
Ranmaru silently made his way towards the car that was parked in front of the school. He opened the door himself and the driver immediately drove away. Ranmaru leaned against the window as he said, "So much for promises." His statements might make him scary and such but no matter how tsundere he is, he never breaks his promise. That's why when Haruka and Ai's relationship crumble he would be the one to catch her. He silently fights the urge to laugh at himself because he knows that it could never happen, Ai and Haruka's ties are too well-knitted that even him, cannot break the thread. No matter what, a promise is a promise.
He would wait for the time when she finally falls for him.
If not today, then probably later on, if not later on then probably years later, if he dies then the next generation will follow his footsteps. No matter how long it would take, he would wait for the moment when she would finally love him. That's the weight of his love for Haruka.
Meanwhile, Haruka continued to play and so did the song, the melody didn't stop even after Ranmaru had left the room. Ai silently watched her with a sad smile as she played the song… His song… Only for him. The once ice prince now filled with emotions, started to sing along with the piano as he slowly entered the room, making his way towards Haruka's side.
nē…kamisama? BOKU ni kokoro ga
futto yadotta toshita naraba
kanojo to onaji kanjou no
tatta hitoshizuku…kanaete kudasai
The angel brightly smiled and as the chorus progressed, she also started to sing along with him.
saigo wa egao de…nakanaide hoshii
zettai ni kyou o wasurenai kara
"BOKU wa kimi no naka…ikitsudzukete yuku…"
ai o… arigatouBye-Bye My Dear
And thus after the first part of the song, the two stopped singing with smiles on their faces.
He stood beside the piano with an apologetic look on his face as he admitted his mistakes simply saying, "I was being such a jerk earlier this morning, I'm sorry." He slightly bowed for forgiveness and in return the girl gave her a soft, kind smile as if to say that she had already forgiven him.
Drip. Drop.
Did you hear that? That was the sound of the ice completely melting.
