Naruko had been sleeping less than peacefully on the futon on the floor when he'd heard the noise that snapped him awake. Her ears being better than those of her teammate, it was several seconds later before her sister who was on watch snapped to attention as someone snuck around the window. Both she and Nerumi quietly armed themselves and waited.
Slowly, the window crept upward, opening itself from the outside. Whoever was doing it was skilled enough to keep from being a direct target of those inside the room...
Nerumi grinned. She'd been beginning to think that the mission was going to be a complete bust, and that it was going to be a whole bunch of nothing until Kimiko's wedding in two and a half months.
It was over in under five seconds. A quick, quiet scuffle during which the intruder had not even had a chance to scream. Nerumi quickly and efficiently snapped the intruder's neck before her idiot sister Naruko could stab the intruder and create a puddle of blood that they would be forced to clean up before someone poked their nose in to make sure they were up and ready in the morning. Something in Naruko's expression seemed to indicate that she didn't eactly approve of how she'd handled the situation.
But, then again, Naruko never really approved of killing no matter how necessary it was. She was way too soft for her own good.
From the looks of things, the first bit of action that the pair of shinobi had seen was a common, run of the mill civilian thug who had been selected for his ability to break into places that weren't being guarded by ninjas.
"So," Naruko hissed a bit too loudly. "What do we do now?"
"We get rid of the body, un." Nerumi quietly as she searched the body for anything useful, like information on who had hired him. After coming up empty, she grabbed the arms and gestured for her sister to take the legs.
After carrying the body out of the silent dormitory and up and over the wall, they carried it to a discreet copse of woods that was out of sight of the school and the capital. As Naruko dug a hole, Nerumi set the body ablaze, the beautiful flames rising towards the starlit sky as the body burned to ash.
Sighing, Naruko waited for the fire to go out before she scooped the ashes and the blackened bones that disintigrated in her hands as she lifted them into the grave she had dug. She didn't know why she put up with that sister of hers when she did things like this.
On monitor three, a certain pair of blondes hopped over the wall that surrounded the school as easily as if they'd just leapt over a single brick that hindered their path rather than ten feet of brick that was topped by eighteen inch high wrought iron spikes.
The Headmistress watched as the pair of failed shinobi who had lethally dealt with an intruder returned to the school grounds and their roommate who was completely oblivious to the fact that the two "girls" she shared a room with were males in guise. Hazuki Kimiko was a problem in and of herself, so keeping all three of the Hazuki's problem children in the same room and segregated from the other girls as the Hazuki girl's father had requested was an effective solution to the problem in and of itself. A solution she hadn't had to come up with like she usually did the solutions to every other problem that cropped up.
This time, the mental conditioning the boys were placed under had held a great deal better than it had the last. Since she had allowed both boys to think they were on a mission to guard their patron's daughter, there had not been a repeat of the sudden breaking that had nearly given her a heart attack as she watched both boys slip from her control on the monitor. Fortunately, both boys had attributed the previous attempt at conditioning to whatever methods they had used to disguise themselves as females in order to attend her school, and the distraction provided by their "mission" had kept them from thinking too hard about things and battering their minds against the conditioning that would be in place for as long as both boys were in attendance.
The headmistress hadn't previously had to resort to the mental conditioning of a male due to the fact that all males who visited the campus were content to leave and return to their homes well before sundown. That, and no male had previously been desperate enough to disguise themselves as a female in order to obtain the top flight education her school had to offer.
She had previously considered unmasking the males who did not belong in her school and removing them from the premeses. But, Hazuki, who had sponsored the two boys, could cause problems she didn't need at this stage. That, and the scandal that could be caused by her carelessness in enrolling disguised males going public would cause a loss of reputation in the community that could result in unforeseen complications.
The Otsutsuki had come to this world, one of many worlds, through space. They were not the first race to do so, nor were they the last. A race that simply called themselves "The People" the way many races called the planets they lived on "The World" had come and discovered that they were just barely biologically compatable with the human species, only able to pair their genetic material with that containing an X chromosome as all attempts at pairing it with that containing a Y chromosome had failed. Few in number, "The People" viewed this as a blessing and set to work trying to find a way to turn this discovery into an increase in their numbers.
Knowing how suspicious and fearful the human species could be, having seen them turn on outsiders numerous times, The People began to plan for a way to get what they needed without the humans knowing that outsiders had been in their midst. They knew that depending on the goodwill of humans who would be willing to contribute would take too long and The People could die out before they'd gathered enough willing volunteers. What was needed would have to be clandestinely taken without the humans ever knowing or noticing that they were there.
Eventually, it was decided that an all girl boarding school in a reasonably heavily populated area that wasn't a shinobi village or too near one might best suit their needs. The girls would be on hand to have their ovum harvested without anyone noticing, and the lessons food and shelter given would offer something for something given in accordance to the laws of The People.
As far as The People were concerned, the money that was supposed to pay for such things as tuition, room and board which was given by the parents of the girls who provided the genetic material The People needed was payment for giving them well educated and well mannered daughters in return. Had they not needed the girls around during their peak fertility, providing an education that was better than the best available on this backward world and the poise and grace of a lady of well-breeding was something that The People could do in under five minutes with the technology they had on hand.
As the school's reputation grew with every young woman it turned out, its student body grew by leaps and bounds, each young woman adding to the depleted gene pool of The People.
There was one major fly in the ointment with this plan however. That fly was the Kunoichi whose Chakra disrupted the genetic fusion process and Otsutsuki blood introduced factors that turned compatibility to incompatibility. This particular fly disrupted the plan, and each washed-out Kunoichi who was enrolled in their school due to their failure to meet the minimum standards for enlistment in Konoha's armed forces was a delay in the exectution of the plan. A delay in their departure back to the main group with the frozen embryos that would more than triple the number of The People in the universe.
Unfortunately, The People couldn't turn away the partially trained Kunoichi who brought their Otsutsuki tainted blood with them, much the way they could not turn away qualified individuals seeking employment out of fear of investigation that would lead to discovery.
The People were patient though, and one thing they were good at was enduring through trying times. They would endure through this as they did working around the other Uzumaki who had turned up one day all but demanding employment.
The People were patient and enduring, but they weren't stupid and they weren't willing to trust things to chance.
As the sun rose over the horizon, one of The People who ran the school went into the kitchens and prepared a drink that did indeed contain Kale as the Cafeteria staff claimed. What else it contained was a number of ingredients that would prevent a hormonal adolescent from fertilizing the eggs of the young females who were nearing harvest.
The last time they'd been less than vigilant around a male guest who'd been allowed into the dormitories...
