Chapter seven: Reborn

Amu's POV

I smelled the salty scent of the sea, my eyes were still snapped shut as I tried to move my fingers one more time, but to no avail. For some reason my body was exhausted and I could easily tell that it wasn't that red head's doing. I knew her abilities were somewhere in the line of messing with someone else's head, but then I knew that it wasn't her who did this to me.

Tap

Tap

Tap

That familiar sound which only meant that, that woman came into the room. The tapping was caused by the tile floors and her irritating heels which only signaled her arrival. The door slammed behind her and I could hear her sigh.

"She's not awake yet?" She asked, irritated

"It would take time" a velvet voice uttered, "She's exhausted, she used her abilities far too many times in a day, her body couldn't handle it and so…this"

"I told you to keep an eye on her" The woman hissed

"I did" A man's voice replied which I knew was Ikuto, it had to be, the spicy scent was the give away.

I clenched my fists in response and I was actually shocked to see that my body was finally responding to my commands. I opened my eyes and a blinding bright light seeped through my eye lids I blinked several times before seeing a peach colored ceiling.

I heard a gasp beside me and as I pushed myself up I saw the woman in the light pink business attire a big smile plastered on her face. My eyes traveled to the girl beside her who wore our school uniform and had her long red hair slung on her back. Her face and skin was flawless and then I saw her expression.

A shiver ran up to my spine. I had never seen so much, hatred. It seemed almost scary.

I then let my eyes travel to the final person in the room, the one leaning on the wall opposite from the two girls standing just beside my bed. Ikuto. He was here and he was staring at me, with blank eyes.

"Hinamori-san!" The woman in the business suite thrilled with glee as she reached for my hand and shook it vigorously, "My name is Sanjo Yukari, but everyone else calls me Sanjo-san"

I looked at her and made sure that my voice was firm, "Where am I, and what do you want from me?"

When I said the 'want with me' I was specifically looking at Ikuto, I knew he had something to do with this, whether it was kidnapping or breaking school rules it didn't matter to him. I've just known him for so long and I could practically write a book all about his mischievous year.

I froze.

He didn't flinch nor move, he just stared at me with dark murky blue eyes. I had never seen him so, mad…and…angry. I had never seen that side of him before. And just when I saw it I couldn't move an inch.

I saw the woman follow my gaze, and she was smirking, she was actually smirking at my reaction. I didn't even know her and I already wanted to slap her on the face. Anything that would remove that expression on her face.

"I see that you've met Ikuto" She said in an acknowledging way

I didn't move, my eyes were still trained on him as he turned and went through the wall he was leaning on. I felt the blood drain from my face and tried to turn myself, to face the woman who was still watching me.

"What do you want" I demanded, it was the only phrase that I could utter

"I do not mean any harm; I have just brought you here to give you a…proposal"

I scoffed at her sentence, whatever she was saying I was not buying it, I wasn't even going to hear it!

I growled letting my vampire senses kick in and of course wanting to give the woman a little scare, but more so…I felt as though all of my frustrations were building up and I couldn't contain it. Anything she would do could possibly tick me off and I would go berserk, and I actually wanted that to happen.

As expected she flinched, but she quickly composed herself. The red head beside her tensed up and a low growl escaped her lips.

"Eva, no." Sanjo-san said as the girl quickly composed as well but the dark red color in her eyes never faded, "You can go if you want, but I thought you might at least want to know about your past" She said this time her voice was flat, the perkiness was gone.

My eyes narrowed and I saw my vision slowly turn red, "What…do you mean"

"As simple as said, I, have what you want" She said, this time I could hear the confidence in her voice as she sat back down on the chair, pleased.

I didn't speak and so she continued

"I don't know all about your past, but I know more then you do" She then smirked, "Your parents, your family, they're all lies. Your friends have been lying to you, everything was set up, and it was all planned out perfectly to the final detail"

"But then they didn't expect you to find ways of your own" She said and then smiled at me, I didn't know whether it was a mocking smile or a pitiful one, "And so our head has given you a gracious offer, he sees the need for you to know everything, and then to decide after that"

"To what!?" I spat

"To decide to join us" She said flatly

I straightened up a confident smile on my face, I willed myself to be strong, I tried it a couple of times and it had worked, "Tell me the truth, now" I said in a low harsh voice that did not seem to be mine

Her eyes did not waver, but I saw them gleam in excitement.

The red head laughed beside her

"You don't have any power over me, as long as Eva-chan is by my side" Sanjo-san said

And with that I was finally ticked off I growled and looked at the woman now standing her arms crossed. I looked at her seething her then suddenly something ticked off from my head. It was as though a voice kept on telling me 'just stare at her and watch what happens' I obeyed willingly and kept staring until I saw her clutch the sides of the chair beside her. I heard her heart beat slow down as beads of sweat came down from her face. Her eyes were wide with shock and glassy, they showed no life.

I heard a gasp, "Sanjo-san!" A velvet voice said and immediately the red head caught her before she was completely swept off her feet.

The woman blinked a couple of times and she smiled wearingly, "Incredible"

I could have chocked right then and there, she was about to die and all she could come up with was incredible!?

Apparently the red head had the same expression; she looked at the woman her eyes filled with shock as she helped her get back up on her feet, "Gomen, Sanjo-san I was caught off guard"

"'Tis okay" She said a bit giddier as she stood up on both feet, "This is Incredible I knew she could do that but seeing it first hand is still…"

I raised my eyebrows, I couldn't take it anymore, and then suddenly I felt my weight double out of exhaustion. Was this it? Every time I used 'my ability' or anything else I would be drained?

I willed myself to stand up straight as I looked at her and nodded, I could not take this anymore, the confusion, the lies, I couldn't go back to school anymore, to my old friends ha! Friends yeah right, I had nothing to loose, my family lied, and my friends lied. They were better off dead the way I saw it.

"I don't think that will be necessary any longer"

"What do you mean?" The woman asked, shocked that I actually spoke

"You don't need to tell me everything, I don't plan on going back" I said flatly

A smile crept across the woman's face as she nodded, "But still it would be a shame, we still want you to know the truth"

"Fine, whatever" I uttered and with this the woman got out of the room, contented. The red head glared, like I care. And for once, I felt as though I was actually in control of my life.

I closed my eyes and tried to suck in as much air as possible, the loud cheers echoing from the stage as the red curtains came up. Showing about a stadium filled with thousands of people either shouting while jumping or holding wines swinging them above their heads or doing both.

I stared down at the people and immediately felt my knees buckle, the black and red guitar, which was now slung on my shoulders, weighed a ton and I felt as though I was going to collapse at any second.

"Just feel it Amu-chan! Just like we rehearsed" Sanjo-san said through the earpiece which was placed on my right ear.

I nodded and straightened myself,

suck it up Amu you can do this…

I looked down at my outfit, I was wearing a spaghetti strapped shirt which was painted black and had the words 'keep looking' across in white bold letters. I then wore a red mini skirt which only reached an inch above my knees. And as I looked around I felt the hair band placed on my head wobble. It was cute little devil horns in them which glowed red in the dark.

"Ready Amu?" I heard the drummer behind me whisper. I nodded and tried to smile.

I then heard his drum sticks clash together and said a short prayer that this could actually work. After that I heard the base play his tune as the drummer beat hard on the drums.

I played the song on my head as I tapped my foot on the ground. And then I brushed the strings with my hands…

I felt the guitar roar into life as I closed my eyes in delight…

(Flashback)

I looked through the glass windows, standing beside Sanjo-san who was currently instructing the guy who was adjusting the mixer outside the recording booth, "Okay now focus on Ikuto"

The man nodded as he raised a small knob up until it reached the maximum level and Ikuto's violin drowned out the other instruments, "And slowly pull it down as Utau comes in"

And slowly he did as told, after the song was recorded Sanjo-san reached for the mic which was placed on top of the desk not too far from the mixer, "Okay great! This was a good start, but then I want to try something…hold on"

She placed the mic down on the table and faced me, her eyes were gleaming and I knew immediately that this was a bad omen.

"Bring in the guitar!" She called as a man with broad shoulders who was standing at the other end of the room went outside. After a few minutes he came back in a red and black guitar in his hands.

Once I saw it I was itching to hold it, but then I composed myself and quickly turned away. The man handed Sanjo-san the guitar but she shook her head, "Not to me, to her!" She pointed

I blinked.

To me!?

She was not serious, but it couldn't hurt to hold it right?

I held on to the guitar and slung the strap on my shoulders, "Okay now Amu get in there!"

"What!?" I spat

Even with the sound proof booth I heard Utau gasp and I felt Ikuto watching me. Oh crap crap crap no way am I thinking what I think she's thinking.

"You sure?" The guy sitting on the chair asked as he eyed me from head to toe

Okay now that pissed me off.

Who was he? The great legendary musician who knew if someone sucked just by looking at them?

"Yes, you might not know, but the girl has potential" Sanjo-san said to the man behind the mixer as though she was talking about her own daughter to a group of jealous parents, "She took lessons when she was 8 and started to play ever since. At least until she turned 13, she was already recommended to several music institutions, sadly she stopped."

Okay what was her deal?

Did she have a file on every single thing I did in my life?

Wasn't that against some law?

She eyed me expectantly and handed me a few sheets of paper, I took them and scanned the notes which were written in black ink. The letters were written in blue, "What's this?"

"The song of course" Sanjo-san said as she pushed me towards the door. She opened it then slammed it right behind me. She then walked over the mic, "Now here's the deal Amu-chan, if you don't play then you don't get out"

I felt all of my blood rise up to my head.

"Sanjo-san isn't this a little too harsh? I mean we're not even sure if she understands the notes" The man in the mixer said a little too loud then intended.

I blinked.

And I heard Utau laugh beside me

She was seriously irritating at times, I knew she didn't like me when I came here, but this…this was too much.

I then looked behind me to see Ikuto grinning at me, as though challenging me.

Ever since the encounter we had in my room a few days back, he has been avoiding me. And now he was grinning, at me. Some how I couldn't pass up that offer, and so I went to Utau's left where a stand was placed and I placed the two sheets of paper on it, a new kind of determination overwhelmed me as I strung the strings.

I looked at the drummer behind me and he nodded and started to clash his sticks, he soon started playing the beat. The base played next and when my part came I strung the strings and played along with the loud beat of the drums and the base. I saw Sanjo-san grinning proudly through the glass and then I felt Ikuto's eyes on my back.

And only three words could form in my head…

In Their Face

(End of Flashback)

I looked over at the audience as Utau started to sing her part,

Your heart began to be scorched,
and there was a smell of it
It was the end of your dream,
and the start of everything

What you adored looked beautiful to you
It became even brighter because you couldn't reach it

The broken pieces of your dream
Pierce my heart
Leaving the pain
That I should never forget

If my life is transient like a flower
I'll be in full bloom by your side
And after watching your smile
I'll fall alone, quietly

There the guitar had a solo and I plaid it perfectly and gathered up my strength knowing that the next words I'd have to sing it. After the notes singed through my guitar a dramatic pause was made and everyone stopped playing only Utau's voice could be heard.

How was the scenery you saw
When you were pushed into an abyss of despair

Your naked heart is wandering
Having nowhere to go
And is setting sharp thorns around
For fear of being touched

The rest of the band came in again but this time I heard the loud emphasis of my guitar. Was it my imagination? I didn't care anymore. I was enjoying myself and with the next lines I ushered myself to sing with Utau's low notes. Slowly our voices mixed, Utau on alto and me on soprano

If I could flutter like a bird
I would fly to you
And offer my wing
To your wounded back

If my life is transient like a flower
I'll be in full bloom by your side
And after watching your smile
I'll fall alone, quietly

If I could flutter like a bird
I would fly to you
And offer my wing
To your wounded back

There was another pause as my guitar hit its last string. The note echoed through the now silent stadium and Utau and I were the only ones singing. Our voices complemented each other and I closed my eyes pictures of Ikuto suddenly flashed before me, memories, a lot of them filled with my old friends, laughter and Joy...and then it focused on Ikuto again, this time a scene flashed when he was carrying me up my room, his hair, his scent, his face…

If I could flow like the wind
I would reach you
If I could shine like a moon
I would keep shining on you

I'll be anything
If it can stop you from being seized with fear

(song: moments,Ayumi hamasaki, translated)

On the last sentence slowly Ikuto played the violin, it sent chills through my spine as he ended it with a sigh.

I tried to take in the picture in front of me. Everyone was on the floor their eyes wide and out of life. Utau merely walked to the backstage as I stood. I didn't feel bad though, that was the thing that was bothering me. Before I would feel remorse for what I had helped them do. But now, it felt as though it was nothing…like I had done it before.

No way, I was over exaggerating

And so before I could think about it I went backstage and saw Utau talking with Sanjo-san. Once Sanjo-san saw me she rushed up and gave me a tight hug, "That was great, Amu-chan!"

"At first we weren't quite sure if it was alright to put you at level with Utau's singing but you sure came through for us" The guy behind the mixer said as he smiled genuinely at me.

This was my home.

Ikuto

Utau

Sanjo-san

And Eva

They were my new home now.

And so I'd just have to get used to it.

I went back to the stage where the drummer helped the stage crew bring down the equipment. I cleared my throat and he looked at me with his kind expression, "Nice work out there" He said and I felt blood rise up to my cheeks

He laughed and offered his hand, "By the way my name's Kain, nice working with you"

"O-oh nice to meet you" I said as I shook his hand, "By the way, do you still have the lyrics?"

"The one for memories?" He asked and I nodded, "Yeah sure but I think I left it in my apartment, I'll send it to you tomorrow"

"Thanks Kain" I said and smiled, the song would be a token from my first concert, playing just the perfect song, Ikuto by my side, I smiled at the thought and suddenly I came in with the sudden realization…

"Amu-chan!" Sanjo-san sang, "We're leaving!"

I didn't even dare look behind me as I walked towards the exit door just after the stairs connected to the stage. I wasn't looking back anymore; I had everything I needed here. Everything.
