Chapter 7
D was surprised when Doris brought him a glass of blood. He looked at her with shock.
"I know you need blood. Its animal blood."
"Thank you."
Doris had accepted that he was a vampire and drank blood. So while he was gone to get Dan she had been productive. She killed one of her pigs. She needed the meat to eat anyway. She put the blood into a jug. She saw he was getting weary when he left.
"Who was the vampire who took all the women and children?"
D looked at her but said nothing.
"I know you know. Please tell me."
He pondered telling her the truth. With others he would not tell them anything. She was different though and knew it.
"The vampire is Vlad Dracul, my father."
Doris looked shocked. She thought Dracula was dead. She suspected from the start D was Dracula's son. Although she never said it. He had this aura about him that screamed royalty.
"D, I suspected you were Dracula's son. I never said it out loud though. I thought he was dead."
Eyebrow raised he regarded her. She took that rather well.
"I thought I killed him. Somehow he survived."
Neither spoke just thought. He should tell her the truth. She needed to know she was in danger.
"Doris, you need to know the truth. You're in danger. It is because of me."
She was confused on how she would be in danger. Seeing her look of confusion he had to explain.
"Dracula mentioned you specifically. He wants to use you against me."
She still had no idea why she could be used. He didn't have feelings for her. Even if she wished he did. He had just helped her in the past.
"What good would I be?"
He didn't want to say it out loud. She didn't see what was in front of her the whole time. He had left the last time because he loved her. He would have been no good to her or Dan.
"Doris, he knows you're my weakness. The one thing I care about. The one person I got attached to."
Doris looked at him. She hadn't heard right had she? She assumed he didn't like her the same way she liked him because he left the last time. Now she realized he left to protect her because he did care.
"He wants me to join him and take my royal title. Help him build his power back. He said I have two days to decide. I don't want the title. Never wanted that title. I would rather kill him or die trying."
Doris took it all in. She needed to go get some air and space to think. This was something she wished to hear for the last 2 years. Yet it also broke her heart even more.
"I have to check on Dan."
D nodded and watched her go. She had a lot to take in. He wished she didn't have to deal with this matter at all. Knowing his father before the two day mark hit he would have his minions snooping. He had to stay and protect Doris and Dan. Then he would go to his father's castle before he came to Doris's after him. Fate would decide who lived and died.
