Elsa leaned her head on her hand, watching the clock count the seconds away. She sighed, looking back to the front of the class where her math teacher droned on about how elegant trigonometry was.
"So you see, the rule of Sines has been called the most elegant and beautiful of all mathematical formulas - and for good reason. The rule of Sines states that sinA over A is equal to sinB over B... can any of you fill in the last of the equation? Yes, Hiccup?" A gangly boy with red hair was sitting in the front row, drooling as he snored. At mention of his name, he snapped up, looking at the board. He squinted, then replied contemptuously.
"So C over sinC is equal to A over sinA and B over sinB. You wrote the equation wrong, by the way." He yawned. "Would you like me to tell you the law of cosines as well? No? Then wake me up when theres work to do. Its first period on a monday." That being said, he slumped back over on the desk, snoring again. The trig teacher frowned, then sighed, turning back to the board.
Elsa tapped her pencil on her desk, sighing as she looked at the empty seat next to her. Anna was there when class started, but she had taken a phone call from the office right as class started. Elsa was worried for her friend - it had been three days since they had heard any news of the ships crash. Elsa blew air through her teeth, turning back to her desk.
Her notes had become covered in doodles, mostly just random squiggles and snowflakes. She sighed again, then let her forehead fall onto the desk. After a few moments, she looked up to the clock, then groaned internally.
Seventy Five more minutes.
A few minutes later, a voice buzzed over the intercom. "Would Hans Southern please report to the office? Hans Southern, to the office." Elsa grimaced at the mention of his name. Wonder what sideburns did this time. She briefly fantasized about hans being chewed out and expelled by Principal Wesselton, but then shook her head. If only, if only...
About fifteen minutes later, the phone in her class rang, interrupting the teachers lecture. He sighed, then walked over to it. After a few seconds he hung up and turned to the back of the room.
"Ms. Arendelle?" Elsa raised her hand slightly. "Mr. Wesselton would like to see you in his office." Elsa stood up slowly, grabbing her things off the floor, then turned to the door. Behind her, a voice snickered.
"Wonder what Ice Queen did this time." She knew without turning who it was. Xavier and his group of cronies snickered, and she also heard the giggles of that prudish girl, Sarah, with them. She sighed, resisting the urge to flick them the finger over her shoulder as she walked down the hall.
She had no idea what to expect when she opened the door to the office, but it definately wasnt this.
Anna was staring awkwardly ahead, ramrod straight, her fists down by her sides. Kai had his hand over his face, peeking out between his spread fingers, obviously uncomfortable. And the reason for their discomfort was quite clear - Mr. Wesselton, in an attempt to comfort Anna, had his arms wrapped around the redhead in a very awkward hug. However, due to his...substantial vertical deficiencies...
His face was buried in her cleavage.
The first one to note Elsa's arrival was Kai, and he harumphed, causing Anna to jump. She pursed her lips together, her eyes looking from the small, white-haired man to her friend in the doorway. Mr. Wesselton pulled himself back, and Elsa grimaced to note that the weasley man was smirking. Uhg. Men.
Anna stood up, flinging her arms around her friend. "Elsa, oh no..." Elsa hugged her friend back, rubbing slow circles on her shoulder blades and trying to ignore how fast her heart was pumping. Anna's crying slowed, and eventually she was able to talk in between sobs.
"Th... They found some of the lifeboats. B-but my parents w-weren't..." She lapsed into crying again, and Elsa tightened her grip. "The people said that th-they were in a different lifeboat, and thats the only one they haven't found yet. Everyone else is ok, b-but..."
Anna pulled back, and Elsa brushed away the tears on her cheek with her thumb. She looked up at her friend, then pressed her forehead to the other girls. "I still have my people looking for them. They haven't got back to me yet, but once they do, they'll tell me. Don't give up, Anna. Never give up hope." Anna smiled weakly back at her friend, closing her eyes.
Mr. Wesseltons phone rang, and they all jumped, startled. He fumbled with the phone, almost dropping it as he pressed it to his ear. "Hello?" He frowned, hearing only mumbles. "Speak up! I can barely hear you." Kai cleared his throat.
"Sir? The phone is upside down." Mr. Wesselton stared at him, blankly, then flipped the phone upright.
"Hello?"
"..."
"Oh why yes, send him right up." He set the phone down on the cradle, smiling at the girls. "Anna, you have a visitor." The girls just looked at him, then shrugged to each other. "He's waiting for you outside, by the front lobby."
The girls slowly walked down the hall, Anna clinging to the tall blondes arm as if it was her lifeline - which, in a way, it was. Elsa was at a loss - her very small pool of experience of dealing with these sort of situations had run dry. She simply held the girl, repeating stupid, meaningless phrases like "It'll be ok" over and over. Eventually the girl calmed down enough to talk to Elsa.
"It's just... Im so worried. They're all I have, and no one else is here to comfort me but you. And I know that you said you sent people out to find them, but, I just don't know if they can be found and it's so terrifying." The girl was on the verge of a breakdown when they turned the corner to the main lobby.
Anna gasped, then broke into a grin. "Kriiiiissy!" she squealed, shouting at the top of her lungs. The blonde man, who was currently in the midst of an arguement with the secretary at the front desk, winced noticeably as he turned to her. He smiled, but the secretary wasn't quite ready to let him go.
"Sir, there are no dogs allowed in this facility!" He sighed, turning back to the stuffy old lady, who was glaring at him over her spectacles. He was clad in green and grey army fatigues, a duffel slung over his shoulder. He ran a hand through his hair,
"Hes a... guide dog, then. Helps me with my disability." The woman huffed.
"You aren't disabled, sir. I hardly see how a dog could help you in any way."
He shrugged. "Guess you could say he's my conscience." With that, he turned to the redhead who was currently running full tilt at him. He slid back a solid three feet as Anna slammed into him, hugging him around the waist. "Whoa, easy there squirt. Sven could tear you apart if he thought you were attacking me."
Anna huffed, letting him go. "I highly doubt it. Where is the puppy, anyways?" He rolled his eyes, pointing down the hall, past Elsa.
Elsa, who had been watching the exchange with a small part of amusement and a large part of confusion, turned around to see something out of a nightmare. Mother of all things holy and covered in chocolate, how the hell did I not see that dog before? I take that back. Thats not a dog. Thats a friggin bear.
The dog was prowling towards her slowly, and she settled into a crouch, backing away. The beast had to be at least over a hundred and fifty pounds, easily coming up to her waist while crouched, probably a good three and a half feet tall when upright. The dog ran at her at and easy lope, and she winced, preparing to be mauled...
Only to have the dog roll onto its back, legs kicking in the air as it panted on the floor, looking up at her expectantly. She slowly put her arms down, uncovering her face as the other two laughed.
"Oh my word Kristoff he's gotten gigantic!" The blonde smirked, and Anna walked over to Elsa's side, kneeling to rub the dog's belly. He obviously enjoyed it, panting and wiggling from side to side as Anna cooed softly to it. After a few minutes, she looked up at Elsa, then stood, suddenly embarrassed.
"Oh oh geez, sorry Elsa. Elsa, this is Sven." The blonde - Kristoff? - sighed, kneeling down by the dog.
"Glad to know that you rate my dog over me, Anna." He smiled up at Elsa, rubbing the dogs belly with one hand, then extending the other to Elsa. "Name's Kristoff. Call me Kris. Im the red-headed buffoons older brother."
Anna huffed, and Elsa just shook her head. "I see the hair doesn't run in the family." Anna laughed.
"So, Krissy. How did you get shore leave?" The blonde grimaced, standing up.
"I had to beg it off my superior. Hes a pretty nice guy, but the military is so damn stuffy about that stuff, you know?" He sighed. "Im a dog handler for the military. The mongrel currently wallowing at your feet is Sven, a specially trained war dog. Thank god that our enemies dont know how easy it is to beat him if you have beef jerky or tummy rubs."
The dog opened one eye, huffing through his nose at Kristoff. He simply stuck his tongue out, pulling a slim-jim from his duffel and offering it to the dog. Sven chomped a bite off of it, and Kristoff took a bite off of the same end. Anna and Elsa both wrinkled their noses up, 'Eww'ing at the same time.
Kristoff rolled his eyes, then looked at Anna sadly. "I came as soon as i got your letters. Are you doing ok, sis?" Anna sighed.
"Yeah, I have my friends to keep me afloat." They all winced at the bad choice of words. "Hans and Elsa, mostly." Kristoff scowled. Obviously he harbored similar feelings towards Anna's boyfriend.
"Well. At the moment, I'm liking Elsa here a lot more than Hans. Because I don't see Prince Muttonchops around here anywhere." Anna harrumphed, returning her brothers scowl.
"You gotta give him a chance, Kris. He's really a nice guy. I don't know where he is now, though." She sighed. Kristoff pulled her close, kissing her forehead and rocking her slightly.
"I just don't like him. Call it brotherly instincts or indigestion or whatever, but he's never here when it seems like you really need him." Anna shook her head into his shoulder.
"Kris, I'm too scared for this right now. Can we save the discussions about my love life for later?" He sighed, holding her at arms length.
Elsa sat down on the ground, slowly inching her hand towards the massive dog who was currently on the ground, eyes closed as he munched on the jerky. "Good doggy... nice doggy..." When her hand was inches away from the side of the giant canine, he suddenly whipped around and barked at her. Elsa fell back, scrambling on her hands and knees as the dog wagged his tail, panting repeatedly in something that could almost be called laughter. She scowled at him, then smiled as her padded towards her, nuzzling her face.
"Thatta boy. You're a good doggy, aren't you?" She scratched him behind his ears, and he promptly flopped onto her lap, sighing as he flopped his tail on the ground.
The siblings continued to murmur to each other, when suddenly Svens ears perked up, and he rose to his paws. He padded slowly to the door of the lobby, the secretary wrinkling her nose at him as he walked by. He sat down by the door, tilting his head to the side as he looked over his shoulder.
"D'ya hear something, Sven?" Kristoff asked. The dog barked once, nodding in afirmation. "Car?" Sven shook his head no. "Plane?" No. "Helicopter?" He barked twice, nodding his head again as he rose to his feet, jumping up to push the handicap access button by the door.
Elsa raised her eyebrow, impressed. She began to hear the steady thump of a helicopter coming in the distance, and she turned to Kristoff, rising to her feet. "Smart dog." The blonde boy smiled.
"Sven knows over a thousand words and well over two hundred hand signals. He's smarter than quite a few people I know." They walked to the door, the secretary following them, once again attempting to get Kristoff's attention.
The four of them paused outside as the helicopter suddenly rose up over the cliff that the school was seated on. It flew over a few cars, starting to descend towards the crowded field of asphalt and extremely expensive cars.. The secretary gasped, waving her hands as the helicopter came close to dinging a red ferrari. The man piloting the aircraft waved back at her. Elsa grinned. "Those cheeky bastards..." She ran out to meet them as the helicopter came to a halt.
The secretary was shrieking at the top of her lungs as the door to the cockpit opened, and a tiny, pale man in a blue suit stepped out. "No no no no no! This is strictly against school rules! Get your vehicle off of school property immediately or so help me god -" Her rant fell flat as a giant of a man stepped out of the other side of the plane, easily over seven feet tall and probably weighing more than the helicopter was allowed to carry. The secretary decided to relocate herself to the lobby, muttering a half-hearted "Mr. Wesselton will hear about this!" over her shoulder as she fled.
Elsa grinned, running out to meet the two men as they strode towards her. "Olaf! Marshall! Pleasure to see you both out here." The tiny man extended his arms, and Elsa kneeled down, hugging him tightly. She nodded up to the giant man, who grunted and nodded back.
Anna and Kristoff approached slowly, Anna giggling at the size difference between the two. The smaller man began babbling, waving his arms around as he spoke.
"Sorry for not warning you first, Elsi! You see, I got all excited and happy to see you that I forgot to call first, and Marshmellow here can't work the phone or radio - fingers are too damn big. And, after the whole fiasco with cuba and whatnot, they put me on parole for my liscense and that includes not using a phone while in an aircraft. Or near one. So we just decided to get here and sort it out when it happened." Elsa stood, beaming down at the little man.
"Do I want to know about the 'Cuba Fiasco?'" She asked, grinning at Olaf. Marshall barked out a quick laugh.
"No." The big mans voice sounded like thunder across the parking lot, and she smiled up at him. "The less you know about it, the better. Suffice to say some jet fighter pilots needed a diaper change."
Elsa smiled again, shaking her head. "You two..." She turned to the siblings, nodding her head at the two men behind her. "This is Olaf and Marshall, two of the best pilots and techno-geeks you will ever meet. You wouldn't believe it, but the two are twins."
Kristoff laughed. "Yeah. I don't believe it."
Elsa frowned, looking down at Olaf. "Didn't I send you on a mission?"
"Yeah, why?"
"To the caribbean, right?"
"Yeah, why?" Marshall groaned, putting his face in his hands, muttering to himself. Olaf glared at him. "Shh, im talking."
"Did you find anything?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Well, because these two happen to be the children of the people I sent you to find."
Olaf's eyes opened wide, and he looked over at the other two. "Oohhhhhh... That explains why they've been looking at me as if I was a ghost or something. Yo, Marshmellow!"
The big man was already back at the helicopter, opening up the side doors. "I got it."
Anna and Kristoff gasped, running to the side of the helicopter as two people stepped out. They were considerably woozy and a little green, but they smiled at the two as they held their arms out. Anna began sobbing, Kristoff smiling as the family re-united. Sven jumped up on his hind legs, licking at the faces of the four eagerly as they all laughed and cried.
Elsa felt a twinge in her chest, and she cleared her throat as they pulled apart. She glared at Olaf. "You could have warned me, at least." Olaf rolled his eyes.
"But that would have ruined the surprise!"
Elsa sighed, then knelt down to hug the man again. "Thank you. Thank you for helping me out." Olaf smiled.
"Hey, what are friends for, right?"
(((((())))))
Elsa and the re-united family were all squished into Anna's bedroom. Elsa was nearly as red as Anna's hair, and she had a smile plastered onto her face.
"I really can't thank you enough, Ms. Arrendelle." Arman said, holding his daughter close. "Your men saved my life."
"Please, call me Elsa. And really, you don't need to thank me. I was just doing the right thing."
Jess shook her head, patting the blonde girl on the arm. "He's not joking, Elsa. You really did save our lives. The lifeboats had all left without us, and we were still on that wreck of a ship. Mr. Hero over here had stopped to help two kids onto the lifeboat, and I was moving to get on when the support ropes to the lifeboat snapped. Thank god that those boats can take a fall - It was damn near two hundred feet to the water."
Her husband sighed, getting into the telling of the story. "The waves forced the lifeboat way from the ship, and we were trapped there. Damn hurricane whipping around us, boat slowly sinking in the water, and we were sure we were gonners." He smiled. "Just when the boat was about to flip over, I heard this gigantic racket behind me and when I turned, there was a massive man leaning out of a helicopter, his arm out to me. I made sure Jess got on safe, then I fell, no longer able to keep my footing on the floor of the ship... and somehow, that little devil of a pilot managed to drop the helicopter down fast enough for the big man to catch me." He shook his head.
Jess smiled, then grimaced. "I do wish Olaf was a little less... enthusiastic of a pilot. I appreciate the tricky work he had to do to get us out of there, but really - when we were out of the storm, he insisted on showing us every damn trick that whirlybird could do." She sighed, shaking her head. "He told us he had called our kids and told them we were fine. Our cell phones got ruined by the rain, so we figured that it would be alright to let them fly us up the coast in that chopper."
Elsa grimaced apologetically. "Sorry. Olaf has always had a flair for the dramatic. Im sure he just wanted to surprise me." Arman smiled.
"Don't apologize for anything, Elsa. Your actions saved our lives. I'm willing to do anything to repay you for that." Elsa smiled, then the conversation turned back to the family chattering amongst each other. Elsa was enjoying herself - the four of them were easy to get along with and really quite amusing. Both Kristoff and Anna were turning various shades of red as Arman shared emberassing stories about the two of them.
"So, I sneak up behind Anna, and she's still oblivious, talking to this painting as if it's her best friend! I tap her on the shoulder and she nearly hits the ceiling of the - oh, hello there." Arman interrupted himself mid-story, looking to the door. The four other people and one dog swiveled their heads to the door.
Anna gasped. "Hans! Are you ok?" She jumped to her feet, hugging her boyfriend close. He smiled down at her, pulling a dozen roses out from behind his back, nodding to her parents, then smiling down at the redhead.
"Got these for you, beautiful. Sorry I couldn't be there this morning, I had a few... issues to work out." He grimaced, walking into the room.
"Mr. and Mrs. Corona, what a pleasure to see you both again. Words cannot express how worried I was for both you and Anna. She was truly distraught." He extended his hand, firmly shaking Armans hand and hugging Jess.
The parents smiled, the family welcoming him - save Kristoff and Sven. Kristoff crossed his arms, glaring at the boy. "And where were you this morning, Hans?" He said, nearly sneering out the word.
Hans winced, going to defend himself when Anna interrupted. "Be nice, Kris. He said he had problems to work out." Kristoff sighed, uncrossing his arms.
"Just take care of my sister, ok sideburns?" Hans laughed.
No one noticed Elsa as she stood, grimacing as she left the room, forgotten in the presence of wonderboy.
"Don't worry, Kris. I always do." Hans replied.
Elsa scowled as she walked out of the room, resisting the urge to punch the wall.
He always takes care of her. After all, you wouldn't want your favorite toy broken, would you Hans?
