Disclaimer: I only own Beta and Veronica.
"All in favor of staying in until Damon texts us and reassures us that Klaus is, in fact, dead, say 'I'."
Veronica rolled her eyes, swirling around the bourbon in her glass as she said "I."
"And I as well." Beta smirked. "So, now that we're all in agreement-"
"Beta, it's only the two of us."
"-we can put in a movie and enjoy our evening, just as I'm sure our lovely Rebekah will enjoy homecoming, and then when it's all over, Damon will text us, Rebekah will arrive, and we will have a grand old time with my favorite wine and each other." Again, Veronica rolled her eyes. "Yes, Beta. Of course."
Beta grinned. "What would you like to watch, V?"
"Anything you want, Bait." Veronica stood. "I'm going to go get some blood for the two of us while you put the movie in."
"Popcorn as well?" Beta asked hopefully. Her friend laughed and nodded. "Blood and popcorn, comin' right up." Veronica padded into the kitchen, opening the cabinet and pulling out a bag of popcorn. She tore off the plastic and threw the bag into the microwave, setting it for two minutes.
As she did this, Beta looked over their extensive movie collection. What to watch... What to watch... "How's Little Shop of Horrors sound?" Beta shouted toward the kitchen as she pulled the 1980s musical out of their collection.
Veronica chuckled. "Like I said Bait: whatever you want. Even if it's some stupid 1980s musical about a singing plant."
"Hey, Little Shop is great!" Beta defended the movie as she popped it out of the case and into the DVD player.
"I disagree but like I said, your choice." Vernoica mumbled as she opened the fridge to pull out two bags of blood. She frowned upon seeing that there were none there. "Bait, did you drink all the blood we had in the fridge?"
"V we finished it this morning, remember? And then I said I'd go down to the basement to get more but I actually never did. I'll do that now."
Veronica smiled, the microwave beeping as she heard Beta make her way toward the basement door. "Thanks, B." She pulled the bag of popcorn out, pouring it into a bowl and then proceeding back into the living room. Just as she made herself comfortable on the couch, she heard a scream from the basement. "Beta?" She called, concern washing over her entire being. Popcorn forgotten on the coffee table, she sped over to the basement door. "Beta what's wrong?"
"WE DON'T HAVE ANY BLOOD LEFT!" Beta shrieked as she appeared at the bottom of the stairs.
Veronica slumped against the door frame and ran a hand over her face. "Here I was thinking motherfucking Klaus was in the basement." She groaned. "So all the blood's gone - it's not the end of the world. We'll just go to the hospital and pick some up, then come right back."
"But what about our pact that we made literally not five minutes ago?" Beta asked as she made her way up the stairs. Veronica shrugged. "I highly doubt Klaus will be anywhere between our lovely abode, here, and the Mystic Falls Hospital. We'll be fine."
Beta sighed. "Okay. You drive, your car's less conspicuous than mine." Veronica rolled her eyes for the third time that night. "That car is never going to see the light of day here, is it?"
"Not while there are homicidal Originals in town." Beta responded adamantly, shrugging on her leather jacket and tossing her friend the keys to the Dart. Veronica caught them with ease and the two made their way outside.
It was a relatively busy night at the hospital - just walking in, Beta and Veronica heard about a four car pileup, two heart attacks, someone's cancer results, and three drug overdoses. "Hope none of that had anything to do with homecoming..." Veronica sighed as they looked around. Beta nodded in agreement. "Blood now, worry about humans later. We need to get home as soon as possible."
- A Change in the Weather -
"I think we should be set for a while, now." Beta said, digging through the duffel filled with blood bags as Veronica drove the two home. Veronica chuckled. "Yeah, we've got quite a bit in there. I don't know how we ran out so fast, though. I thought we had a ton to begin with."
"Apparently not." Beta mumbled. "Though we did drink a lot when Beks was over the other night. We were so drunk, probably didn't even realize how much we were going through."
"Eh, it's whatever, now." Veronica shrugged, turning onto their street. Orangeblossom Drive. The sun had long-since set and it was semi difficult to find in the dark, the two still learning the way home from various parts of town. "We'll drink all that as moderately as we can and it should last us quite some time." The two were silent, then, as Veronica pulled the car into the driveway.
"So..." Beta started as Veronica shut the car off. "Little Shop?" Veronica simply started laughing, Beta joining as the two stepped out of the car. "Yeah, Bait. Little Shop."
The two continued to laugh as they made their way up the path toward the front door, though both their laughter and their movements immediately ceased when they saw who stood on the front porch.
The duffel fell to the ground, Beta having lost her grip in her shock from seeing who was there. Veronica almost tumbled backwards, her knees ready to buckle. The two barely stood their ground as they gazed up at the one person they feared above all.
Klaus smirked down at them from the porch, hands in his pockets as he stared right back at the two. "Took you long enough." He said, stepping off the porch and beginning to slowly approach them - each step was tauntingly slow. Beta and Veronica both knew they had nowhere to run. Even if they did run, he'd catch at least one of them. And how could one live without the other?
The answer: it wasn't possible. Beta couldn't make it without Veronica and Veronica couldn't make it without Beta. There'd be no point.
So they stood their, albeit shaky, ground, and waited to see what he had to say. "Five hundred and twenty years." Klaus sighed, finally coming to a halt before the two. "I have searched for the two of you for five hundred and twenty years. Of course I'd find you here, in Mystic Falls. A magical place, isn't it?" He motioned to the houses surrounding them. "Must've been fate that the two of you chose to finally settle in the same town in which my new doppelganger lives as well."
The two were both incredibly uneasy as he spoke. Beta was running through escape scenario after escape scenario - there had to be something she could do. What could she do?
Running would get them killed. Fighting would get them killed. Could she... Negotiate? Klaus wasn't a man easily swayed, but Beta decided attempting to sway him would be better than just letting him kill them.
"Now then, down to business-" Beta cut him off. "Klaus, wait."
Veronica's eyes grew wide. What was she doing?! Klaus' eyebrows shot up. He was intrigued with Beta's decision to speak. "Yes, Biancella?" He prompted.
Beta frowned, before politely stating. "Actually, it's Beta now. And can we just consider the idea that, well, you really don't have to kill us. You're a hybrid now, right? You found another doppelganger! And you became a hybrid! That's good! You don't need to kill me and Veronica for taking any chance at being a hybrid away from you, because now you're a hybrid. Killing us? Unnecessary."
Klaus' eyes narrowed. "Five hundred and twenty years, Beta." He spat her name out, taking a step closer to the older of the two vampires before him. "I waited an extra five hundred and twenty years because of you two. I wouldn't have had to have waited that long if it weren't for the two of you. I do believe your deaths are still in order." Another step towards her.
"In our defense," Beta began trying again, taking a step back. "We didn't want Katerina to come with us. She heard Veronica and I conspiring. She demanded we take her with us, or else she'd out us to Kol," His name felt like acid on her tongue. She wanted to badly to cringe, but she remained strong. "And Elijah. We couldn't risk it. We couldn't even compel her, she'd found Veronica's experimental supply of vervain and ingested some. We truly had no choice but to take her with us - she forced us to take her with us. We didn't want her to come. Our plan was to abandon her at some point in the chase - leave her behind for you to find. Once the vervain had left her system, we could compel her to tell you and Elijah and Kol that we'd gone one way, when, in fact, we hadn't. But she outsmarted us all - she manipulated us. She manipulated Rose and Trevor and she became a vampire. It wasn't our fault, Klaus. We didn't want to take her with us, please..." Beta hated begging. She hated looking weak. It was the one thing she hated more than Kol. She hated appearing inferior to her enemy - inferior to anyone.
Klaus was silent for a moment, his glare vicious. Veronica had no clue how Beta remained so strong under it. She felt as though she were a mere two inches tall. His eyes softened for a moment as he considered what Beta had just said, and Veronica began letting out a quiet sigh of relief - was he going to spare them?
Her sigh was cut off when, suddenly, the two were up against the side of the house, Klaus' right hand around Veronica's neck, and his left around Beta's. "I don't care whose fault it was and whose fault it wasn't." He growled. "The two of you cost me five hundred and twenty years. You'll pay with your lives."
"Klaus please!" Veronica choked out. "You intend to wake up Kol, yes? And Elijah, as well? You're going to undagger them and reunite your family, that's your plan, right?"
Again, Klaus' eyes narrowed, but before he could respond, Veronica continued. "How do you think they'd react? If they found out you killed us? We're not stupid," Veronica wheezed. Klaus' grip did not loosen. "Klaus, we know that all three of you have been searching for us. But we also know that it wasn't for the same reasons. You wanted us to kill us. Kol wanted Beta." She wheezed again. "Elijah wanted me. How do you think they'll feel when they find out you've killed us?"
Beta began building off of Veronica's argument. "And even if you lie," She huffed. "And you tell them that we died by some other hand, I guarantee they'll find out eventually. Someone will out you. And when they find out, you know they'll never forgive you." The two could barely breathe, Klaus' grip only tightening as they made their final case. This was their last shot...
Suddenly, his grip loosened. Not enough for the two to escape, but still enough for them to breathe properly. "I've just realized something..." He started, his angered expression turning to almost... Amusement? "There aren't many things in the world that people might consider a fate worse than death... But the two of you... Spending eternity with my brothers might suffice for such a fate, yes?"
Beta's eyes grew wide, and suddenly she almost wanted to beg and plead for her death. She had a horrific feeling that she knew where he was going with this.
Veronica watched, in horror, as his grip tightened on their necks again and he leaned in close toward Beta. As he drew himself closer to her face, Beta knew she was correct. And there was nothing she could do. She couldn't even struggle as Klaus began to compel her. "You're not to pass the Mystic Falls border without the companionship of my brother Kol. You'll be trapped in this town until he decides to leave, with you at his side." Beta gasped for air as the compulsion settled in. No.
Klaus then turned to Veronica and she, unlike Beta, began struggling. But he was more than 400 years older than her, and thus practically twice as strong. Her resistance was futile and soon, she stopped, as Klaus began to compel her as well. "You are not to leave Mystic Falls without the companionship of my brother Elijah. You are also trapped here until he permits you to leave."
With that, Klaus dropped both of them and the two crumpled to the ground in defeat. He smirked down at them.
"That should suffice."
Aye, what did I say? 24 hours? And I did it in what? Five? I rock. Updates will probably never be this fast ever again, because I suck but hopefully this is good enough to hold you guys over until then. I'm actually quite happy with how this one came out, I hope you guys are too. I also hope it makes up for how badly the last chapter sucked.
Anyways, I gotta shower and get ready for bed. Love you all. Review? xoxo
