Well here's the next chapter and for those waiting for it I apologize for it being late. As usual I knew what to write but couldn't get my self to do it. Like others i've seen the first first episode of the second volume and the food fight scene is awesome. I had thought of having a food fight scene in the story in a later chapter but it pales in comparison. Also, second episode, i'm sure it can be agreed that the scene with Ruby and Weiss hugging each other is just adding fuel onto the tsunedere fire isn't it? I'll let you get onto the fic now and i'll say it now that i'm not familiar with football or boxing so no torches and pitchforks.

Nigel shifted in his bed as he slept. For awhile now he wasn't able to get comfortable and it was slowly waking up. As he moved his arm it came to rest on top of some thing. As his still resting brain slowly processed what he was feeling the answer that came was that it was the skin of some one else. This realization caused him to wake faster.
"Morning Nigel" Trudy's voice said.
"Trudy, why are you in my bed" Nigel asked with a sigh.
"Don't you remember what happened last night" Parkin's voice asked from behind him.
'What the hell' Nigel thought.
"It doesn't matter any ways. Let's go back to sleep" Parkin said.
"O.k. Sleepy time" Trudy said.
The two of them scooted closer to him on the bed till he felt them pressed against him. Most notably two soft points were pressed against both his back and chest. At this feeling Nigel just clenched his eye lids, grabbed the sheet on top of them and threw it aside before he sat up and scooted to the end of the bed. He then moved the curtain aside before he made his way out of the room. He was sure to close the door quietly before he opened his eyes and quickly made his way down the hallway. As he walked down the hallway he saw Yang and Rona walking together. Since they were carrying food and drinks he assumed they had hit the cafeteria to get some breakfast for their teammates.
"I take it you had nothing to do with Parkin's antic" Nigel asked a little annoyed as he neared them.
"I left to check on a book in the library an hour ago before I went to the cafeteria. Any thing Parkin has done, I am not involved in" Rona said as she handed him a cup with some orange juice inside.
Nigel took the cup and started drinking it as he calmed down.
"What did she do this time" Yang asked smiling.
Nigel emptied the cup and let out a breath as he thought about how to explain it. He wasn't nervous when talking to Yang any more. Well he was still a little nervous but not so much it'd cause him trouble when talking to her.
"I think Parkin tried to trick me into thinking I had a three way with her and Trudy" Nigel said shaking his head.
"What? Really" Yang asked a little curious.
"It's what I'm guessing. The only thing I know was that they were in my bed then they pressed them selves against me" Nigel said.
"Were they naked" Yang asked.
"No clue. My eyes were closed the whole time. I figured that if Parkin was trying to play a prank on me it was best to leave quickly and not give her any thing she can use for a joke" Nigel said as he held his hand to his face.
"Wow Nigel, I'm pretty sure most guys would have looked to see if they were naked or not" Yang said as she laughed.
Rona ignored her as she looked at Nigel.
"I'll speak to her when I reach the dorm room" Rona said.
"I don't think a talk with her will do much. As for Trudy, she was probably asked if she wanted to play a prank on me" Nigel said.
Rona nodded as she adjusted her glasses and walked down the hallway with Nigel and Yang following as they talked about what they'd do during the week.
It was a few hours after the incident that morning. When Nigel and Rona had returned to the room it was found out that Parkin and Trudy were wearing swim suits and that it had indeed been Parkin's idea. Trudy had just been asked to play a joke on Nigel with out knowing what the joke was but went along with it. Rona proceeded to talk to Parkin about pranking people so early in the morning while Nigel used his scroll to check for any interesting news reports. The Grimm sightings in the city had been dropping down to the point where they were rarely reported. Seeing nothing important or any messages he closed his scroll and headed off to the firing range for some practice.
Due to a teacher meeting the students had Monday off so they were either training, in the city or studying for a test on Tuesday. It was noon now and Parkin was playing her handheld game system while her other two team mates were reading.
"Crash upon my tactician army and die you undead bastards" Parkin muttered as she directed her forces.
As Rona thought about asking her partner to quite down there was a knock at the door. Trudy got up from her bed and opened the door to show Nigel was on the other side carrying several packages.
"I hit the mail room on the way back. Seems like we all got stuff from home" Nigel said as he walked in.
He placed the packages on Trudy's bed as she closed the door behind him. He picked up Rona's box and handed it to her as Parkin got out of her bed and grabbed hers. Nigel grabbed his and sat on his bed and started un-wrapping it. Inside of it were 3 tins along with a letter. He unfolded the note and started reading it. It was a letter telling him how things were going on at home as well as what was inside the tins.
"What did you guys get" Trudy asked.
"Some home made beef jerky and fudge from my dad. What about you" Parkin asked.
"Some juices made from the orchard my grandparents work at" Trudy said as she took a bottle out of the box.
"I received some bread and some preserves from my aunt and grandmother" Rona said as she took out a bread roll from her box and smelled deeply.
Parkin looked into the box Rona had got and saw that there were several labeled jars with different types of bread rolls. She then saw back down on her bead and looked at Nigel.
"And you" Parkin asked.
"Sugar, peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies" Nigel said as he opened one of the tins.
"Those look good. Can I have some" Parkin asked.
Nigel snapped the lid shut and moved the tins behind his back before he growled loudly at Parkin. This just caused her stare at him.
"What the hell Nigel. All I asked for was a cookie. What are you, a dog protecting its favorite bone" Parkin asked shaking her head.
Nigel just glared at her as he kept the cookies behind him. Parkin looked at Rona wondering if she had any ideas on how to get some cookies from Nigel but she probably wouldn't be any help.
"Hey Trudy, you have any idea on how to get some cookies from him" Parkin asked as she looked at Trudy.
"Hm, how about a picnic? We can invite the RWBY's and JNPR's too. They've been studying for the test to haven't they? It'd be rude if we didn't offer them any snacks." Trudy said smiling.
"That works. I'm sure if that Yang asked he'd have to give some to every one" Parkin said before she got out of bed and bolted out of the room before Nigel could object.
She made her way down the hallway and when she came to the RWBY dorm she knocked on the door and waited. She heard people talking on the other side and when the door opened Parkin saw that Yang was the one who answered. Parkin looked into the room and saw that Weiss was sitting on her bed going over her homework, Ruby was sitting on the floor reading some notes and Blake was reading one of their class's books.
"Hi Parkin, some thing up" Yang asked.
"Well, me and the others received some care packages from home. We figured that it'd be nice to share what we got with our friends with a little picnic outside" Parkin said smiling.
"Sounds good to me" Yang said with a smirk.
"You just want an excuse to avoid studying" Weiss said looking at Yang.
"Oh come on. Studying to much and not taking a break isn't healthy for you" Yang said looking back at her.
"She's right and the weather is nice today. A break wouldn't hurt" Blake said.
"It's two to one Weiss" Yang said.
"No. Both you and Ruby need to study" Weiss said shaking her head.
Yang ignored her and turned back to Parkin.
"What did you guys get" Yang asked.
"Let's see, I got some jerky and fudge, Trudy got a couple of different juices and Nigel got some cookies" Parkin said.
"What kind of cookies" Ruby asked as she looked away from her notes and at Parkin.
At the mention of cookies Weiss saw that Ruby's attention was being drawn away from studying for the test.
"Ruby, you can have cookies after we finish studying" Weiss said as she looked down at her partner.
Parkin smiled as she watched Weiss loose the battle. The heiress had no intent on ending their study session early or until she was sure her teammates would pass the test. Parkin still had some studying to do her self but she saw no reason to do it while there was still light out.
"Three tins of sugar, peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies. Rona got some bread rolls along with some jams and the like to go on them. I think there was a jar of strawberry marma-" Parkin got out before Ruby suddenly stood up.
"We're taking a break" Ruby said before she bolted out of the room with a burst of rose petals left behind her.
Parkin and Yang started laughing as Weiss muttered some thing about playing dirty.
The group of twelve students walked across the grounds of Beacon Academy. There was a slight breeze and a good amount of sun. Perfect weather for hanging outside and having a snack. Trudy let the group humming to her self as she carried a picnic basket.
"When did you get a picnic basket" Weiss asked.
"I took it from a Grimm the last time I was in Emerald Forest" Trudy said with a smile.
"What" Weiss asked.
"I'm smarter than the average Ursa" Trudy said with a chuckle. (AN: I apologize for the bad joke.)
Nigel looked at the confused look Weiss was giving Trudy and shook his head.
"If it helps any, I don't know when she got it either. If I had to guess, she got during one of her trips into the city with Parkin" Nigel said.
Weiss shook her head as Trudy found the spot she wanted and put down the picnic tarp down on the grass. She then grabbed the food her teammates were carrying and started placing them around on the tarp.
"She seems to be enjoying her self" Blake said as they watched her.
"Maybe she's just happy to be outside with her friends or it could be that she just likes picnics" Ren said.
When Trudy finished she signaled for the others to sit down next to her. Seeing her give the o.k, Nora and Ruby quickly sat down next to her and started eating.
"Hey Ruby, don't eat all the chocolate chip cookies. Leave some for the rest of us" Yang said as she sat down next to her sister.
Ruby swallowed the cookie she was eating as she handed the one she was planning to eat next to her sister. Weiss and Blake sat down next to their teammates as Trudy started handing out cups to every one. Weiss grabbed a bottle of grape juice and poured her self a cup. She looked at the purple liquid before she took a sip.
"This is quite good" Weiss said as she closed her eyes.
"Thanks Weiss. I'll tell my grandparents you like it. They make a lot of fruit drinks and change the recipes based on people think" Trudy said happily.
Parkin smiled as she looked at Trudy then looked at Nora who had started eating some of the fudge her dad had sent. She thought about the sight for a few moments before she looked at Ren.
"My dad puts a lot of alcohol in the fudge he makes. It's not going to cause her any trouble or for that matter, us" Parkin asked a little worried.
"I don't think she'll get drunk if that's what you're asking. Although I've never seen Nora drunk before so I don't know how she'll act" Ren said shaking his head.
Parkin looked at Nora then back at Ren before she moved a few inches away from the hammer wielder. If Nora got drunk some how Parkin had no intention of being caught in what ever it was that she'd do. Next to Ren, Jaune grabbed a few cookies from one of the tins and ate them.
"These are good. Who made them" Jaune asked after he swallowed.
"My mom probably" Nigel said shrugging his shoulders "she likes playing hostess when guests are over and since my brother and sister have their friends over a lot she bakes stuff like cookies or cup cakes. It's given her quite a bit of practice."
Jaune nodded as he ate another cookie.
"It certainly shows" Yang said as she did her best to keep Ruby from eating the rest of the chocolate chip cookie.
Nigel looked at Ruby and shook his head. If Ruby really liked them that much it shouldn't be that hard to ask his mom for more. She'd probably be flattered that some one liked them that much. He then looked at Rona who was showing a notepad to Pyrrha and Weiss. From how they were talking it seemed like were comparing notes. About a half hour later most of the food was gone and the drink bottles were empty. Weiss finished the juice in her drink as she closed her eyes.
"Thank you for inviting us to eat with you but it's time for us to get back to our studies" Weiss said with a smile.
"You're welcome but it may be too late to get the others to return to the dorm early" Rona said.
"What do you mean" Weiss asked opening her eyes.
She saw that both Rona and Blake had books open and were reading them. Weiss, of course, wondered where they came from since she hadn't seen them bring the books with them. Not looking from her book Rona pointed in a direction and when she turned her head Weiss saw that the others were setting up to play football.
"What? When did they make plans to play? For that matter, where'd the football come from" Weiss asked.
"Trudy had it in the basket. Since it seems like they won't be finished for some time you might as well relax" Rona said said.
She then took a book out of her coat and handed it to Weiss. The heiress shook her head before she took the book and started reading as her friends divided into teams. Nigel, Jaune, Ren and Pyrhha were on one team, Yang, Nora, Trudy and Parkin were on the other and Ruby had a whistle since she was playing referee. Nigel looked at the opposing team and shook his head.
"Seriously, how did it get divided up like this" Nigel said with a shake of his head.
"I'm wondering about that too" Jaune said with a sigh "at least this isn't a game of tackle football."
"True enough" Nigel said with a smirk.
When Trudy suggested a game of football, Nigel had said it wouldn't be a tackle game. Since it was Yang, Nora and Trudy on the opposing side it was a good call.
"What play are we going for" Pyrrha asked as he walked over to them.
"I'm thinking a boot leg might work" Nigel said looking at her.
"It might but since there wont be any tackling, a guard for the ball carrier wouldn't be needed. A flea flicker might be a better choice" Ren said as he joined them.
Nigel, Pyrrha and Jaune looked at him. All three of them were surprised at what he said.
"What" Ren asked.
"Nothing" Nigel said as he looked at his team "Ren will go left and Jaune will run right. Pyrrha, you'll pass me the ball and I'll run with it before I throw it to you. After that run and throw it to Jaune. They'll probably expect you to throw it to Ren. Every one got that?"
The other three nodded and they moved to take their positions. Yang and her team moved to their positions and Ruby tossed the football to Pyrrha. Ruby waited a few seconds before she blew the whistle signaling the start of the game. Nigel ran to the right as Pyrrha started moving back while Ren and Jaune started running forward. Yang, Trudy and Nora chased after Pyrrha while Parkin ran after Ren. As the three girls neared her Pyrrha threw the ball to Nigel who caught it and started running. Seeing that the ball had changed carriers, the three started running after him. As he ran he took a quick look to see Pyrrha start running so she wasn't to far away from him. Nigel counted to three before he threw the football back to Pyrrha. The red head caught the ball and kept running. She looked ahead and saw that Jaune was open and waiting for her to throw the ball.
"Get Pyrrha" Yang yelled.
"Charge" Trudy said with a laugh as she and Nora stopped running after Nigel and turned towards Pyrrha.
Pyrrha stopped running and threw the ball up into the air. The football traveled up in the air before it started coming down towards Jaune. He looked up and started running so he'd be close enough to catch the ball. As it came closer to the ground he reached out to catch it but he messed up and it bounced out of his hand. He reached out and caught it properly and smiled.
"Hey, I caught it" Jaune said proudly.
About a second later he heard some one, Pyrrha from the sounds of it, scream "Run Jaune, run." He looked back and saw Yang, Trudy and Nora charging towards. He gulped and started running but it was too late. He then let out a scream as the three of them tackled him down to the ground.
'So Jaune was the girl that was in trouble during the initiation' Nigel thought with a cringe.
As he walked over towards Jaune, Nigel could hear Parkin laughing about what had happened. Ruby blew her whistle as she walked over to the pile of bodies and looked down at them.
"Foul on Yang's team" Ruby said.
"What? Why" Yang asked as she got up.
"We said there'd be no tackling in this game and you, as well as Trudy and Nora, tackled Jaune" Ruby said with a voice that said she was being serious.
Well, as serious as some one her size and voice type could be anyways. Yang grumbled before she told Trudy and Nora to get off Jaune.
"You still conscious" Nigel asked as he looked down at Jaune.
There was a moment of silence before Nigel got an answer.
"You're carrying the ball in the next play" Jaune said with a groan as he opened his eyes.
"Let's have Ren do it instead" Nigel said with a smile as he offered his hand to Jaune.
Jaune grabbed it and was pulled up as Ren walked over to them.
"I have no interest in getting tackled like that" Ren said shaking his head.
"Fine, I'll carry the ball in the next play" Nigel said as he got the football.
The two teams regrouped to go over what their next plays would be. When they finished they continued their games. They spent an hour playing and in the end Yang's team won by one touch down. As they headed back to the dorms Pyrrha helped Jaune walk since he had gotten tackled more than he should have. Of course, he blamed Nigel since it was his plays that had that result.

Parkin was lying down on her bed with her eyes closed. Trudy was reading one of her comics, Rona was reading some research journal and Nigel was at the firing range getting some practice in with Pebble Storm. She let out a sigh as she opened her eyes and started kicking her feet against her bed.
"I'm bored" Parkin complained.
"Why not play one of your video games" Trudy asked.
"I don't feel like it" Parkin said.
"How about going into the city to see a movie" Rona asked.
"None I want to see" Parkin said.
She let out a sigh as she stopped kicking and started thinking. She could always get some sword practice in but she wasn't in the mood for that either. As she went along those lines a question came to mind.
"Hey, how come Nigel hasn't sparred against Yang" Parkin asked.
"What do you mean" Trudy asked looking up from her comic.
"Well, think about it. Out of our friends, Yang's the only one he hasn't gone up against" Parkin said as she sat up.
Rona stopped reading and thought about it. In their combat training class Nigel had fought against members of both teams RWBY and JNPR with the exception of Yang. In the beginning of his match against Ruby he got in close to her and started attacking her. Each time she tried to attack him with her scythe he'd either blocked her blade with his arm guards or get in close, grab the pole piece with one hand and punch with the other. It was a reminder that his training was focused on fighting a weapon using opponent while he had none. As the fight continued Ruby used her speed to get away from Nigel before she opened fire on him and took him out by hitting him with several rubber bullets.
Against Weiss he used his arm guards to block her rapier and countered with several kicks. When he was able to, he would aim his punches at her shoulders and elbows in order to reduce her ability to use her sword. To stop this she would put up her glyphs as a shield to protect her self. Seeing that his punches and kicks were being blocked, he had to change his stances in order to get his attacks to go over or under her glyphs. Doing so left him unbalanced and Weiss was able to knock him down with an untrained punch. She then used one of her glyphs to propel her self back and when she stopped she hit him from range with Dust fired from her weapon and defeated him.
In his match against Blake he got in close to use his grabs and pins against her but she kept escaping his holds. When she used Gambol Shroud against him he drew his swords, still in their sheaths, and fought against her. At one point she managed to get both his arms wrapped in her ribbon in order to keep him from using his them. He countered that by pulling her in close and kicked her hard knocking her off the stage. While he won, it was due to a ring out and Nigel figured that in a serious situation her agility would beat him.
When he fought against Jaune the end result was already known. The match was before Nigel had started working on training Jaune but even if it happened after the results would probably have been the same. The moment Goodwitch gave the signal to start Nigel rushed Jaune as fast as he could. Not wanting to risk wounding him to deeply, if that was possible, Jaune raised his shield instead of his sword to block Nigel's charge. Nigel hit with enough to force to knock Jaune off balanced and make him stumble back. Before Jaune could recover Nigel grabbed his shield and managed to get it off his arm. After that he twisted Jaune's sword out of his arm, pinned him and held him down till Goodwitch called the match.
His fight against Nora, well that went as well as any one expected. Two minutes in, Nigel was face down on the floor and a giggling Nora was sitting on his back, her legs wrapped around his neck and trying to pull his legs over her shoulders causing his spine to bend further than it was probably supposed to. At the end of it Parkin was laughing at the sight of Nigel repeatedly slamming both of his hands on the floor to show that he was tapping out.
For his fight against Pyrrha he was more cautious than he was against Jaune. Pyrrha was a more experienced sword and shield user than her partner so the same way of defeating her wouldn't work. When their fight started he ran towards her and instead of raising her shield to block like Jaune had she raised her sword instead. She expected that when she swung at him he'd use his arm guards to block and try to follow up with a punch. Instead when he reached her he tried to kick her legs out from under her. He knew that he wouldn't be able to disarm her so he instead chose to try to reduce her mobility. As the two fought she would use her sword to attack which would get blocked or try to use her shield to knock him off balance. As the fight went on he even tried get behind her to attack her back side. He landed a few punches but she caught on and started using her shield to block. When the time limit was reached Nigel was in the red and Pyrrha was 2/3rd in the yellow. Considering that Nigel, who had training from a random mix of people, was able to get a champion fighter like Pyrrha down that far it was considered that he did well.
The match against Ren, well that one went differently.
Flashback
As Nigel walked up onto the stage he readjusted the plain leather cestus he was wearing. After Goodwitch told him his opponent was Ren, he had forgone his usual arm guards in favor of the leather arm wear and even took off his chest plate. He took a few practice punches and arm swings to make sure they were secured in place before he looked at Ren. Ren had left Storm Flowers with Nora and deiced he'd fight Nigel close up as well. The two just smiled at each other and took their stances.
"Do you think they'll be alright" Ruby asked Rona.
"The chances of them having broken bones, or other forms of severe body damage, after the match are low. They're both experienced fighters and the professor will intervene before it goes too far" Rona said not looking up from her book.
Ruby just looked at her before she shook her head.
"You don't seem all that interested in this" Ruby said.
"Would you prefer I act like the others" Rona asked.
Ruby thought about Rona's reply then looked at the rest of her friends.
"Go Ren. Beat him into the floor" Nora cheered.
"Come on Nigel, no loosing" Trudy yelled.
"Fight Nigel. I want you to knock the pink right out of his hair" Parkin yelled with her fists clenched.
"I see your point" Ruby said closing her eyes.
"You two may begin" Goodwitch said.
Nigel clenched his right hand into a fist and ran at Ren. When he got close enough he swung his fist aimed at Ren's head. Ren raised his left arm up to block before he swung his open right palm at Nigel's abdomen. Nigel swung his left arm to knock Ren's attack away before he took a few steps away from him. Ren didn't give him any time to prepare another attack and moved in to attack. He quickly stepped forward and before Nigel could react he was hit by an open palm strike to the chest. As Nigel moved his right leg behind himself to keep from stumbling back Ren bent his arm and moved his hand up bringing the edge of his palm up to strike Nigel's chin.
Nigel grit his teeth as his head was knocked back from the strike. He then swung his left leg back as he swung his right arm and punched Ren in his side. The two of them moved away from each other so they could gain a moment to investigate the damage. Nigel moved his tongue along his teeth as he shifted his jaw. Nothing seemed to be wrong there besides the pain. He shook his head and started working on his focus as Ren checked the side of his chest. Nigel hadn't hit with full force so Ren assumed it was more of an attack based of reactions.
Neither of them used their aura's to reduce the pain since that would drop the meters faster. Nigel ran forward and when he reached Ren again he swung his right fist aimed at Ren's head. Ren blocked the swing with his left hand then used his right to block a swing from Nigel's left. Ren saw that this was a bad idea soon after as Nigel pushed forward with his legs and slammed his head into his.
The blow to the head disoriented Ren enough that his arms relaxed. While Nigel was disoriented him self he had used his aura to help protect his head so he was a little more in control of him self than Ren. Nigel grabbed below the collar of Ren's shirt with one hand as he grabbed his arm with the other. As the blow from the head butt wore off Ren found him self being thrown to the floor by Nigel. In one movement Nigel went to a kneeling position as he brought his right fist down at Ren. Ren pressed his hands against the floor and kicked his left leg up and hit Nigel in the head. The strike to his head caused him to fall back as Ren rolled away from him. The two then quickly got back up and moved away from each other. They looked at each other before they ran towards each other and started trading punches and kicks.
"Damn. Never a camera around when you need it" Parkin said.
"Why would you want to record this? Fighting like that is so undignified" Weiss said shaking her head.
"I don't think it's some thing you'd get any time soon princess" Yang said as she smiled at Weiss.
"I certainly hope I don't" Weiss said.
"If you ever get into a fist fight maybe you'll understand it then snowball" Parkin said with a smirk "but since I don't think that's likely to happen, just see it as it's an interest among martial artists."
Weiss just ignored her and went back to watching their friends fight. Parkin looked at Trudy and saw that she had her hands up and was moving her fingers like she was pressing the buttons on a controller.
"Recover, recover, recover" Trudy muttered as she rapidly pushed an imaginary button.
Parkin looked back at the stage and saw that Nigel had been knocked down and was getting back up. Out of the corner of her eye Parkin saw Nora look at Trudy. Trudy looked back at her and there was a short silence before Nora smiled and held her hands up and the two started acting like they were playing a fighting game. Parkin chose to ignore them and focus more on the fight. Eventually the bell rang signaling the end of the fight.
Nigel and Ren both, who were catching their breath, looked up at the screens to see who won but both of their aura's were in the red. Normally Goodwitch would call a winner when a students meter hit the red but the two of them must have some how hit it at the same time. Goodwitch looked at her scroll as she read the read out of the match. She pressed a button on her scroll and the hanging screens displayed their aura's as numbers. Nigel had 20% of his aura remaining while Ren was at 25%.
"Yes. I win" Nora cheered as she stood up with her hands raised.
Trudy cursed as she threw her imaginary controller to the floor and crossed her arms. Both Nigel and Ren ignored their partners as they made their way off the stage and back to their seats.
End Flashback
"Yeah that was a pretty good fight but I didn't like it that Nora won. I think she used a cheat code or some thing" Trudy said crossing her arms.
"Trudy, it was a sparring match, not a game" Rona said not looking up from her books before she adjusted her glasses "while not exactly a bad idea for him to spar against Yang, he would have to agree to it first."
"Oh I'll worry about that later" Parkin said as she got up from her bed and left the room.
"This isn't going to end well is it" Trudy asked as she looked at the open door.
"Not likely" Rona said with a sigh.
The words "You did what?" being yelled could be heard in the dorm and probably outside of it as well. Nigel had come back to the dorm room after he finished at the firing range and five minutes after he sat down on his bed Parkin told him that he was going to be fighting Yang and that he should get ready for it.
"I set up a match between you and Yang. Should I not have done that" Parkin said feigning innocence.
Nigel stared at her before he turned around and rested his hands on the wall.
"This is it. This is how I'm going to die. I always figured that if I was going to die during a fight it'd be against a horde of Grimm" Nigel said with his head down.
Trudy looked at Nigel before she looked at Rona.
"I don't get it. What's the problem with him fighting Yang" Trudy asked.
Rona thought about the question before she answered.
"While a skilled fighter, the majority of Nigel's combat training has been focused on throws, grabs, pins and holds. They're useful against other hand to hand fighters but Yang is an exception" Rona said.
"And the reason for that is" Trudy asked still confused.
"Quite a few of them require my hands or arms to come in contact with her back or to throw her onto her back. We all know that Yang is very protective of her hair so I have to throw out any thing that would result in damaging it" Nigel said as he started tapping his forehead against the wall.
"Oh come on, i'm sure it can't be that bad. Besides, you could brush up against a few spots on her and just put it off as an accident" Parkin said smiling.
Nigel let out a growl as he glared at her.
"Don't give me that. Goodwitch would have paired you two up for a sparring match sooner or later. Just see this as practice for then" Parkin said smiling "now, let's go. The RWBY's are already heading to the training hall and it'd be impolite for you to leave Yang waiting."
Nigel let out a sigh as he shook his head and walked out of the room.
Yang stood in a boxing ring while Ruby was standing next to it. Blake and Weiss were sitting on a bench with team JNPR who were in the training hall before them. Trudy, Rona and Parkin came into the training hall and walked over to them. Parkin had a clipboard and pen with her while Rona was carrying a white case with her. Rona and Trudy sat down while Parkin started writing on her clipboard.
"What's in the case" Jaune asked as he looked at Rona.
"First aid kit" Rona said as she turned the case and showed Jaune the red cross on the case.
"Why would you…" Weiss started to ask before she looked at Yang, who was throwing warm up punches, then back at Rona "never mind. It'll probably be needed."
"Come on guys. I don't think Nigel will get beaten up that bad. We should have some faith in him" Trudy said.
Before any reply could be made Parkin's voice could be heard.
"Ladies and gents we've got a good match about to start. Yang 'the punny spitfire' Xiao Long versus Nigel 'the smack down musician' Godin. Come on and place your bets people. You can bet on who wins and even how long it takes Nigel to get knocked out" Parkin called out to the other students in the training hall.
"Parkin, you shouldn't have people placing bets on them" Ren said as he watched her.
"I'll place a bet" Nora said raising her hand.
Ren shook his head and started to try talking Nora out of placing any bets. As Parkin started taking bets from the others students Nigel walked in the training hall carrying two pairs of boxing gloves.
"Try to last as long as you can Nigel" Parkin yelled as she started taking bets from other students.
Nigel ignored her as he got into the ring and threw one of the pair of gloves to her. Yang caught them and looked at them before she started putting them on.
"Why bother with these" Yang asked.
"Because I don't want you messing up my pretty face to much" Nigel said with a smirk as he put his own gloves on.
"Shouldn't that be my line" Yang asked.
"Then you should have been the one to bring the gloves" Nigel said.
Yang shook her head as Parkin walked over to the ring and got into it.
"O.k you two. This is gonna be a clean fight. It'll be over when some one gives up or the others k.o'ed. You got that" Parkin asked.
"Fine with me" Yang said.
"That's fine but know I'm getting you for this Parkin" Nigel said as he glanced at her.
"Yeah, what ever. Tap gloves" Parkin said.
Yang and Nigel walked to the middle of the ring and tapped their gloves against each others.
"Fight" Parkin said before she went over to the side of the ring.
The two backed away from each other as students started cheering for them to fight.
"How do you think this will end" Pyrrha asked as she looked at Blake and Rona.
"While Nigel is familiar with boxing it's not what he's best at so Yang has the advantage there" Blake said.
"True but during the training sessions and exercises, Nigel has shown that he has a good amount of endurance. He can take blows as well as endure physical stress. While Yang is stronger there's the possibility he can outlast her" Rona said as she adjusted her glasses.
"Then it'll come down to wither Yang's strength and experience is enough to take him out quickly or if Nigel's endurance and defense will allow him to last long enough that she tires her self out" Blake said.
Parkin looked at the two of them and snorted.
"If I had known that the two of you were going to do commentary I would have set up some speakers and a pair of microphones" Parkin said as she closed her eyes.
"Shouldn't you be paying attention to the fight" Trudy asked.
Parkin opened her eyes and looked back to see Nigel hit Yang with an uppercut. As she moved back Ruby started yelling for her to focus and take Nigel down. Yang moved a foot forward before she swung her left fist and hit Nigel on the right side of his face. As Yang's fist moved away from Nigel's head he blindly struck out with his right fist. The punch didn't hit but it glanced off the left side of Yang abdomen. Nigel stumbled back and moved his arms for a cover up to guard against her. Yang took the initiative and started punching quickly in order to break his guard.
She started swinging in order to hit his sides but he kept twisting his body so her punches hit his arms instead. She tried a few more swings before she went for a feint to his left side. As he moved to protect his left side she swung her left fist and hit his right side. Nigel grit his teeth as he positioned his legs and swung his right hand up and down for a overhand punch. Yang moved back to avoid it but Nigel pulled his right arm back and struck out with his left and hit Yang in the face. There wasn't as much damage because she was moving away from him but he still landed a hit.
Yang backed away from Nigel as he brought is arms up into a semi crouch stance. Yang brought her left arm up and readied her right fist as she quickly moved to close the distance. Once she was close enough she went for a jab but Nigel pivoted on his left foot and moved his right leg back to avoid the punch. As she went past him he hit her with his left fist before he took a few steps away from him. Yang came to a stop at the ropes of the boxing ring and shook her head before she turned around and faced him.
"Nice check hook. You're a lot more familiar with boxing than you let on" Yang said.
"Thanks. I guess I learned more than I thought from the few lessons I got" Nigel said with a smirk.
"That's good since i've decided that you're going to be my sparring partner from now on" Yang said with a smile.
The word crap went through Nigel's mind as he lost the smirk. He saw a lot of bruises in his near future. Nearby he could hear Parkin laughing and saying that Nigel went from being a musician to a punching bag but he did his best to ignore her.
"Nigel, you may want to run" Ruby said.
"What? Why" Nigel asked as he glanced at her.
"Yang's getting that look in her eyes when she's starting to take a match seriously" Ruby said as she pointed at her sister.
Nigel looked at Yang as she slammed her gloves together. Seeing that, Nigel started cursing Parkin in his head about as much as he cursed Ozpin during the first week of school. Yang ran forward faster than before and slammed her right fist into his chest. Nigel grunted as his body was pushed back before he swung his left fist aimed at her head. Yang raised her arms and blocked before Nigel swung his right fist and hit her in the abdomen. Yang moved her left arm down and knocked his arm aside before she threw another punch at him.
Nigel moved back to avoid the punch and Yang's fist went through empty air. He then pushed forward and sent a jab at Yangs head. Yang moved her head to the side so the punch went past her face before she punched Nigel hard in the face and the chest. The blow disoriented him for a second as he moved back and he brought his arms up to guard till he could refocus. Seeing that Nigel was on the defensive again Yang pushed her attack.
As Nigel did his best to protect him self from Yang's assault, he looked behind her and saw some thing that scared him. A lock of Yang's hair was on the ring floor behind her. He assumed that when she dodged his punch it had done some damage to her hair instead. Considering the silence from their friends Nigel assumed that they had noticed as well but weren't going to bring it up. More so from the fact that Ruby was next to Parkin with her hand clamped over her the older girl's mouth. Most likely Parkin was going to tell Yang that some of her hair was damaged and Ruby had moved to stop her. For that Nigel would be sure to write home and get his mother to bake several batches of cookies for her.
Knowing that the moment Yang found out what had happened to her hair Nigel was left with two choices. Keep her from seeing it for as long as possible or knock her out and hide the evidence before she awoke. Nigel didn't see either as easy option as he moved back in order to get Yang away from her fallen hair.
"Come on Nigel, stop being on the defensive. Show me what you got" Yang said as she punched his arms hard.
Her fist hit where his arms were touching and he felt them get pushed apart a little but he didn't let her punch through. As she continued punching him he started repositioning his legs and twisting his body to avoid her punches. After avoiding her punch he would keep one arm up to guard before he through a punch of his own. A few landed but they didn't inflict the damage he would have liked.
Seeing that he'd have to try harder he watched her legs and tried to get her pace. This caused him to get punched a few more times but when he saw an opening he took it. He moved his right arm and hit her with a jab and as he moved his arm back he used his left fist to hit her with a hook. As he started moving his left arm back he positioned his feet and hit her as hard as he could in her abdomen with a punch from his right fist. Yang eyes closed as her legs gave out and she dropped to the floor. Every one who was watching were quite as they looked at her. Ruby's shock at seeing her sister get knocked down was enough to loosen her grip on Parkin's mouth who started counting.
'Please be out, please be out, please be out' Nigel repeatedly thought in his head.
If she was knocked out then he could hide the blond hair on the ring floor and avoid being killed. He'd probably get beaten black and blue the next time he got into the ring with Yang but hey, it was a fair trade to him. As Parkin hit 6 Yang started moving which caused Nigel's body to freeze. The blond brawler got to her knees and started getting up. As she got to her feet some thing on the floor drew her attention and Nigel knew what it was.
"Nigel" Yang yelled as her eyes turned red and she seemed to be covered in flames.
'May Monty have mercy on my soul' Nigel thought with a scared look on his face.
He quickly repositioned his feet and brought his arms up into the best guard he could before he closed his eyes and flared his aura. When Nigel opened his eyes he was lying flat on the floor outside of the ring and had a headache. He looked to his left and saw Rona looking at her watch while holding his wrist. Parkin was sitting to his right and smiling at him.
"Hey, how many fingers do you see" Parkin asked as she gave him a thumbs up.
"Is that supposed to be a trick question" Nigel asked with a groan "How long was I out for?"
"His pulse is normal and his ability to think doesn't seem to be impaired" Rona said before she looked at Nigel "you were out for 3 minutes. It's safe to assume that when you flared your aura it started healing you once you were rendered unconscious."
"Nigel, are you o.k" Trudy asked as she walked over and knelled next to him.
"I think so" Nigel said as he slowly sat up.
Rona took a small flashlight from the first aid kit and used it to check his eyes. As she did that Nigel saw that most of the students who had watched the fight had left. Team JNPR was still there and Nora seemed to be counting money. He didn't bother with asking where it had come from. Not far away was team RWBY with Yang getting a lecture from Ruby and Weiss.
"Do you know what day it is" Rona asked.
"It's Monday" Nigel said.
"And your last name" Rona asked as she turned off the flash light.
"It's Godin" Nigel said.
"And our location" Rona asked as she put the flashlight back in the first aid kit and closed it.
"We're in the training hall at Beacon Academy" Nigel said as he stood up.
"Well he doesn't seem to have a concussion" Rona said as she held the first aid kit and stood up.
"That's good. It'd be really bad if he was hurt" Trudy said as she and Parkin stood up.
Jaune and the rest of his team walked over.
"Are you going to teach me to take punches like that" Jaune asked.
"Yeah, probably" Nigel said with a smile.
Ruby and her team walked over and when they reached the others Ruby looked at Yang.
"Come on Yang. You need to apologize" Ruby said.
"What? He was the one that damaged my hair" Yang said as she stroked her hair like she was trying to sooth a scared pet.
"Yang, you know as well as I do that it was an accident. Now apologize" Ruby said crossing her arms.
"Fine" Yang said before she looked at Nigel "I'm sorry for hitting you like that."
Nigel smiled at her.
"It's fine Yang so don't worry about it. So, we going again" Nigel asked.
At that question the other 11 students all stared at him.
"What" Nigel asked confused.
Trudy then hugged Nigel and glared at Yang.
"Yang you broke his brain" Trudy said angrily.
"Hey, I didn't break any thing" Yang said as she glared back.
"So his brain was broken in the first place" Parkin asked as looked at Nigel "yeah, I can see that."
Nigel chose to ignore that comment.
"Are you sure he doesn't have a concussion" Jaune asked Rona.
Rona moved closer to Nigel and inspected him before she shook her head.
"He didn't seem to but let's take him to the schools doctor for a check up" Rona said.
She looked at Trudy and nodded. Trudy gently took Nigel's hand and led him out of the training hall.
"Come one Nigel, we're paying the doctor a visit" Trudy said.
"I do not have a concussion. I'm perfectly fine" Nigel said trying to reassure his friends there was nothing wrong with him.
Trudy showed no sign of believing him as she led him out of the room with Rona following him. Parkin said good by to the others and told them she'd try to set up a rematch before she followed after her team.
