After seeing the latest review I figured I should go ahead and point out that this story has been open for four years. Just recently I pulled to writing more chapters for my stories, this one seems to be the easiest to write for since the plot came from where every story with this name has come from. The Dixie Chicks. Most of the stories are going to line up pretty much the same thing.
Hermione found herself staring at the front page of the Daily Prophet. The horrors running through her mind as she watched the pictures moving before her, the story fresh in her mind. So many were slaughtered, wizards, witches and muggles were all injured, dead and scared. No names had been released with the attack. He had been with them. She could tell. There was just some feeling deep down that pushed the feelings to her. Draco had been hurt. Her only question now was, was he dead?
Hermione bit hard on her lower lip and let her eyes come back into focus as she scanned through the paper once more. The attack happened in broad daylight and two and a half blocks were in ruins. What was she going to do? Hermione slowly pushed the paper away from her and looked at her coffee. There was no way she would be able to focus at work today. She felt her eyes start to cloud over as she struggled not to let her emotions go wild. There was still no proof that he was hurt. He could be perfectly okay.
Hermione stood up and grabbed her mug as she walked towards the living room and pulled out a quill and a clean bit of parchment. She dunked the quill in the ink and began to write a hasty letter to her boss.
I apologize, but today I will not be able to come into work. I have received a bit of bad news as you can see in the paper. I again send my apologies and will be at work in a couple days.
Hermione
She took a slow deep breath and walked over towards her owl and slowly attached the letter before letting it take off. She stared out after it, not really seeing it as she watched the blue sky. He was okay. She kept telling herself in her mind as she watched the clouds move slowly through the sea of blue. She felt the burn in her eyes and the swell in her throat as she tried to pull her mind from it. Hermione pulled herself from the window and ran her fingers through her hair before sitting down on the couch, setting her mug on the coffee table.
Had Draco gotten her letter? He could not have died without seeing it yet. She had just started to reveal feelings and taking comfort in his letters to her. He had to see her letter. He had to see that she was having feelings. It might help him. The tears began to fall. She slowly curled up on the couch and watched the wall staring at absolutely nothing and hoping for all hope that she would see another letter come through to her. The pain was going through her cutting at every internal organ she had. Her heart felt like it was going to shatter into a thousand pieces and rip from her body.
A couple days had passed and Hermione had felt no comfort after no owl had come to her. If he had died nothing would come to her. His parents would be the ones to get the letters and there was no way she would be able to contact them and see if he had been okay in the attack.
Hermione found herself sitting outside of her little cottage laying out on the grass and watching the skies. She kept looking for a spec of some owl coming to her to bring word and yet she had nothing better to do as there would always be bouts of tears that came from nowhere. Her boss had written to her and hoped that all was alright and let her have the week off. Everyone knew that Hermione was waiting on the news of Draco, though not exactly Draco. They had known Hermione was getting letters from someone that was off fighting in this war and they had known her moods were effected by getting these letters and with the news on the attack all anyone could say was I hope you get good news.
Ginny had also stopped in yesterday and seeing Hermione in the distress she was in had stayed through the rest of the day, talking and finally cooking dinner trying to get the woman to eat as she had not eaten since the day before the attack. Hermione revealed to Ginny everything with her and Draco. Hermione watched as Ginny seemed to be only to gape at her and then the questions poured in. She could not understand where Hermione could find an interest in Draco after everything that had happened to them through school. Hermione could not explain how her mind just pulled her to him but it had.
After some more crying and finally getting something down in her stomach Ginny made sure she was okay for the night before leaving, but not before Hermione had sworn her to secrecy. She did not need every body knowing about her and her feelings for Draco and how Draco was writing to her as much as she was writing to him. She did ask for Ginny to keep her ears open to hear if anything had happened to Draco.
As Hermione began to sit up and run her fingers through her hair she stopped. Something was coming close through the sky. Her heart skipped a beat and she found herself holding her breath staring at the figure coming through the sky. Hermione started to push herself up off the ground and nearly gave a cry. It was an owl it was coming for her.
Hermione watched as the owl swooped down and landed on the ground in front of her. She quickly knelt down and pulled the letter from the owl. Her hands were shaking so much it was hard for her to open the letter. This had to do with Draco. Hermione slit the letter open and unrolled the parchment and her fear seemed to sink away as happiness filled her. She felt a sharp intake as she saw that he had been in the attack. He was okay, or at least okay enough. Her eyes took in everything from the letter. She had gotten Draco through the attack? She kept him strong? A large smile took to her face and she kept reading.
He would be safe as the healers worked with him, and there was nothing for her to worry about right now. He was safe and he had the same feelings towards her. She was his guardian angel. She found herself pulling the letter close to her chest and walking towards the door. Hermione had to write back to him. He deserved this more than anything.
Hermione walked through the kitchen into the living room and pulled a quill and parchment towards her as she sat down on the couch.
Draco
You have no idea the hell I have been through these past couple days. Waking up and seeing the Daily Prophet had me knowing immediately something was wrong. I knew you had been in the attack. The only thing that killed me more was I knew no notice would come to me, just your parents and having to wait for more time to pass to hear of anything about you was one of the most horrifying things to go through.
I am glad to hear that you are doing okay, it is still horrifying to hear that you were hurt and I pray that the Healers figure out what is causing the pain and that you are returned whole to me. I was scared that you were going not going to see my letter and know that I have some feelings to you. And nothing has made me happier to see you are returning the feelings. Draco I just do not know if I can carry on not knowing if you are okay on a daily basis.
My heart has been in pieces waiting for your owl to me and I am glad that I got one so quickly, work had given me a week off as I knew I could not go in and continue working while worrying over you. Ginny ended up coming over after seeing I wasn't at work and my boss said I had the week off. She of course went into how I think everyone would see it. She seemed in such disbelief over it all. But that is what I expect from everyone. We after all do not have a clean sheet with each other.
I wish they would let you come home now. You took an injury and you should be able to be back here and let me see you again. I just know my fear is going to be raised a thousand times more once they clear you again. I appreciate all that you have been doing to better yourself and your families name Draco I just wish it was on safer terms.
As far as being a guardian angel I don't know how I could be so. I am not there with you and I know I am quite alive. But in heart I will always be with you. I am never going to turn my back towards you and will be there to let you rant and be safe with me.
Hermione carried on with her letter. She pulled her letter shut and ran her fingers gently over his letter. She wanted nothing more than to see Draco up close and be able to be with him. Draco was her brightness, her happiness and her life. Hermione pulled her letter off the table and walked towards her owl and tied it to his leg. She ran her fingers over his feathers and smiled more at the owl. "Get it safe to him." She whispered softly watching him take off out the window. Hermione pulled Draco's letter back to her and began to read it over once more. She had made sure to sign hers just as he had his. Love.
