Disclaimer: It's been quite awhile since I've touched anything of mine here, but now I think it's time to pick up where I left off. Life has changed a lot for me and I think this will be reflected in the way this progresses as well as my writing style. I hope the fans of this one will appreciate it. So, here's chapter 7 YO!
Ch. 7
Bending of Wills
As fire must bend to the will of the water; as the waves must bend to the will of moon and as the soul must bend to the will of the gods, so to must one's pride bend to the will the heart. This he knew as he surveyed the young woman in front of him. How young she was, but how ancient her heart and strong her soul; he was drawn to her in a way he could never truly describe. Perhaps that is why he had always pushed her away even as she fought his attempts to at every turn. Her gaze had turned up towards him and the beauty in those eyes could fill endless murals and he found himself, for once in his long life, at a loss for what to do.
"Come on, we have to go. I'm sure Rin is waiting, and we both know how she can get when she grows inpatient," Kagome finally said, her voice filling in the silent void that had settled between them. He still had the locket held gently between his claws and looked back down at the smiling memories that it contained. Closing it and placing it back upon her slender collar bones, he sighed heavily. He supposed it was now or never, and he was not one to pass up on such a tempting and rewarding offer. Not twice at least. He saw her purse her lips in annoyance and begin to turn away before he grabbed her face and brought it up to meet his. He felt her soft lips against his as he kissed her gently; this would not be the last time for he did not repeat his mistakes.
"You are not going anywhere until you vow to never leave this Sesshomaru again," he said gruffly, still holding onto her chin. Her mouth fell open as she stared at him disbelieving. Did he really just tell her to promise to never leave again? If he meant this, then he in turn must also promise the same, a promise she was certain he would not make. She would not be broken again, she refused to.
"If I am to make this promise, then so must you promise to never leave. You must promise to love me Sesshomaru. Do you understand?" she said, taking his hand off of her face. She was not expecting what she saw in his eyes and it made her falter. In those usually stoic and dead golden eyes she saw a light that was usually just seen in his half-brothers equally amber eyes. The light of emotion? Impossible, she thought. He stepped back and bowed before her, his long white hair falling around his shoulders. Still dumbstruck, she could feel herself making small noises of disbelief as she watched him kneel in subservience to her. Standing, he took her limp hands in nodded.
"This prideful, long lived and un-matched youkia vows himself to you," he said, but then dropped his eyes as he gripped her hand tighter. Breathing in hard he lifted his head sharply and pulled her into him, encircling her waist with her arms. She stared into him and he into her, both enduring the silence for the sake of the other. He knew what he must do next, but his jaw was clenched tight against the truth he needed to speak. His pride was a strong thing, but his will was stronger as he growled lightly and bit his tongue, tasting his own salty blood as it pooled in his mouth. Swallowing it, he doubled down and broke his lock jaw. She would not wait forever, this he knew.
"I love you Kagome," was all that was needed to bring tears to her eyes. Throwing her arms around his neck she hugged him tight, cracking a few vertebrae loudly as he grunted in a minor show of discomfort. He could feel the power radiating off of her and he knew both in his mind and his heart that he had chosen well. The power that coursed through her was a perfect match to his own and the soothing effect she had upon him brought him a peace that was much needed. This love he had always huffed at was more a powerful force than he and he could do nothing but bow to its power; and bow to it he now did willingly. Letting him go, Kagome laced her fingers in his and unlocked the door. The world beyond this room had not changed within the hour they had been locked away, but was the world beyond ready for the changes that they now brought to it?
