Quru the Peco

AN: I feel bad, also don't own RWBY

Decomposing wood cracked loudly into the echoing distance. The eerie rocky walls only illuminated by the modest light of a small campfire built. A tall blonde man with a shadowy scruff let out a grunt as he tindered the flames with a stick. "This is crazy. Think of a new plan." A female silhouette spoke in distress. Making the blonde frown in response.

"We're out of time." He spoke solemnly in a dark cave. It shook violently as rocks chipped off the wall and ceiling. The campfire dimming out from the sheer vibration. "Like I said… I'll grab its attention and lead it away. The rest of you get out and notify the guild." The cave shook more violently. A vibrating roar echoed through the cave.

"*! Please just-" The silhouettes mouth was closed as the blonde looked at the other three in the group. One of them nodded as they got up and pulled the person back.

The blonde shook his head as he tightened his golden armor. "I guess you were right, five really is a cursed number." Another silhouette spoke up as the blonde put on his helmet. The shining armor glowed like pieces from a broken golden moon.

"Please don't…" The feminine voice begged. Blue eyes stared through the golden sockets. The three other figures merely nodded as they took hold onto their begging teammate. Enough confirmation needed, the blonde knight walked out through the only exit of the cave. Slow pace then broke out into a full sprint as he broke the distance. Out of the cave with grace and into a grassy meadow. The silhouette of a dragon-like creature shifted in the darkness of the night. The remains of a hot-air balloon in its mouth. Completely crushed.

The creature busted forward with vehemence and speed unlike any other. Instantly appearing in front of the blonde golden knight. Its giant maw opened as black energy built up in mass. The mere power of the energy that built up caused the dark sky to crack in lightning. Revealing a Wyvern with six limbs. Two of those being clawed wings. The blonde cursed as he drew his sword and shield.

An Urgent Quest was put in not too long ago about a Nargacuga invading a small village in Patch. The beast was stated to be of high intelligence so a group of five was sent out to deal with it. Not high or tail of the beast could be found in the area, but traces were found and the monster was tracked. Found in the middle of the night and what they saw was no Nargacuga. Similar it may had been, but it was something much worse for people who were only in their fourth hunter rank.

The beast had Golden Trims ridding through its black scales and a dark fog protruding it's mass. The blonde vaulted out of the way at the last second. Air breaking around him as a black powerful mass of energy shot out. The blonde took the opening and clipped the wing of the beast. A scale shot off as the sword begun to glow dangerously. Forcing the blonde to side slide out of the way and slam the blade into his shield. It'd instantly clip and the shield begun to glow red as he took a defensive position.

The wyvern only known as a Gore Magala roared and tackled onto Jaune. Yet the glowing red shield stood strong as it impacted the hunter. His feet slightly skirted back and his body winced, but that was all he needed to stop the beast and roll away. He slammed his sword into the shield as he began to run through the meadow and towards a dead forest. Untamed Grounds. A restricted area forbidden by the guild to enter. If he was going to survive this… His thought was cut short as he turned to see the Maw of the Wyvern open up right in front of his face. His eyes widen as a gasp of air left his lungs. The blonde shot up from his bed as he looked around the room. Gasping air left his lungs until a huge migraine pierced his skull. His hand moved to rub his temple as the teen groaned out inside the small room he was provided by the guild. It happened again, memories that weren't his own.

Ruby was eagerly checking through her ammo supply. Normal Shells at Level One and Two, check. Nine shots of Level One Crag. Three Shots of Level One Clust and Eight Tranquilizer Shells on recommendation by Jaune. The girl had to give the blonde some praise. Already planning on bagging any big game that might show up. He himself was preparing the traps and barrels. The girl didn't even think to make any explosive barrels!

"Yo sis! What's all the hype for?" Yang spoke up as she trotted across the room in her night wear. The blonde sister spent most of Sunday just crafting materials for the next hunt her group was planning on doing. Apparently it was going to be a Flying-Wyvern and Yang wouldn't release any details. So Ruby herself played the same game.

"Oh you know… Quests…" Ruby spoke as she strapped her Jaggid Fire Bowgun to her back. Yang just grinned as she rubbed her chin.

"I don't think Jaune would like being called a quest. That's a little demeaning." Ruby began to sputter out with a blush on her face. Almost tripping on herself as she collected all the remaining materials.

"I'm not questing f- I mean I am goi- wit-! Argh!" The tinged red head threw her hands up in the air as she rushed out of their little cabin house. "Bye YANG!" She added emphasis to the blonde's name. Who only wolfed out laughter as her sister retreated.

Ruby made her way through the grassy fields of the outskirts of Vales. Until she came upon one particular area. The place where she and Jaune had obtained their modest farm. Which seemed to have already been cleared out. If a familiar blonde already on the field working the ground had anything to say about it. "Jaune!" The tinged red head shouted excitedly as she hopped the log fence that distinguished the perimeter of their farm.

The teen turned to her direction and let out a small smile with a wave. Garden hoe in hand. Eventually they'll be able to hire out some able Felyne that chose to focus on farming, but that was eventually. The blonde thought was still adamant on having it done with or without the help. "Hey Damsel, ready to get kidnapped again?" The blonde teased as the girl let out a displeased huff.

"I'll have you know I've been practicing my Hunting Style all night!" She crossed her arms as her gaze fell above the table in the distance. There were two hunter belts already prepared and seemingly filled to the brim.

"That's good. Hunters don't really start focusing on their style and art until at least the second rank. It's fairly useful." Fairly being the understatement of that sentence. The more you use them, the more necessity they become due to their advantage over monsters. The tinged red head dashed over to the table and picked up her belt. The contents were basic things. A full set of Mega Potions, Steak, a couple of Flash Bombs, Traps and Gathering Tools.

"So when are we leaving?" Jaune finished up with whatever he planted and tossed the hoe to the side. Ruby looked at Jaune's pouch and noticed there was one extra compartment compared to hers. With a quizzical look, she opened the pouch. Only to be hit with a horrid small of rancid decay. The girl gagged as she closed the pouch. "Argh, what was that horrible smell…" She spoke with disgust as she held her nose and eyes shut tightly.

"That's what caution smells like." A wide smile broke out towards the distressed girl.

Jaune stood at the counter as the Guild Manager, Glynda Goodwitch stared menacingly at the Quest paper. Her eyes would then trail up to the male and his tinged haired companion. "One moment please…" The woman practically growled out as she took the request form to the back. Loud stomping could be heard as she passed the doors and onto the administrative side of the building. "ARE YOU INSA-" the door behind her shut with a loud slam, though not before seeing a terrified Ozpin on the other side.

"What was that about?" The male blonde merely shrugged at the girl. Silently saying he hadn't have a clue. Ruby just hoped that the trip wasn't canceled or anything. That'd of been a total drag. A loud meow echoed behind the two as they turned around to see Crocea Mors. Antidote Flute in hand, but what surprised the two the most was Crescent Rose. A little battered for wear, with her own Antidote Flute hanging from a strap around the waist. "Crescent Rose?!"

A short meow in reply was given as the tinged red head shuffled up to her typical house cat and looked down at her. The cat was in its own iron set with a basic hammer. "I come too, meowster!" Crescent Rose tiredly held up the Antidote Flute in her arms. If what she wanted to do was going to work, this Felyne needed to raise her game. Then rise she did with vigorous over night training until she learned how to play the flute that'll bring the favor into her odds.

The door banged open with a loud crack as Ms. Goodwitch left the room in metaphorical fumes. Her glasses were quickly adjusted as she took out a stamp and slammed the approved tag onto it. "If you two neglect to send an alert. I'll have your Guild Cards." She threatened with an intense glare. Eyes narrowed to the point that lasers might seem to shoot out at any moment.

Ruby and Jaune quickly nodded their heads as the male took the paper and dashed off. Ruby herself followed behind, fear quickly subsided into excitement as she bounced. "Our first gathering missions! This is so exciting! It'll be so much fun Jaune!"

A nervous laugh escaped his lips as he did a final check at the departure zone. "Haha… yeah, fun." There was a mild hesitation, but one look for the girl's silver eyes and excitable expression seeped his doubt away. A smile escaped his lips as he run the bell at the door. Signifying their exit to start the mission.

The Mistralian Woods reeked of dead and decay. Trees were buried in toxic sand and gunk of purple mess. Black tar bubbled in places as the two stepped off the boat. Two random Felyne hopped off the boat. One starting the preparation for the camp while the other began setting up a quite sizable air balloon. Crocea Mors and Crescent Rose got off next. Carrying sizable equipment to the camp. They'd both give a meowing salute to their masters before rushing to work.

"Anima.. it's a lot less… then I heard." She gave a dejected look as she looked at the bile that was once woods but is now swamp. Jaune pat her shoulder as he walked up ahead.

"It's only this part of Anima. I hear the actual town of Mistral is quite a sight despite not having a Guild Hub." The dejected look immediately left the girl's face as she brightened up.

"Oh we have to see it before we head back to Sanus!" Jaune chuckled as he gave a word of affirmation to the girl as they walked off.

Jaune took a defensive position in front of Ruby. His shield was risen as he blocked the maw of an Ioprey. A quick bash knocked it to the side as the tinged red head took a stationed shot at its underbelly. The bird-wyvern cried out as it flew back. Colliding onto the floor dead. The blonde turned to praise the girl, but quickly saw another Ioprey sneaking from the rear. A quick dash in allowed him a deep carve into it's side. Staggering the tall beast. Without a moment of hesitation, the blonde raised his shield, upper cutting the prey before he'd use the opening to slice its throat open.

Jaune rubbed the sweat off his brow as he turned to Ruby with a smirk. "Thanks Jaune! By the way." A shot left her Jaggid Fire. Rushing behind the blonde as it shot inside the open maw of another Ioprey. The shell cracking inside its mouth blowing the head off. "So who's the damsel now?" She give a cheeky smirk.

"Oh haha, my gunner in shining armor." He gave a sarcastic tone as he sheathed his weapon. Crocea Mors and Crescent Rose were in the back, carrying a big bag of supplies. "Meowster… the baggage. They full." The blondish white cat spoke up. The red in black one just in the back struggling to pull her own bag. A lazy thumbs up with be given towards the two cats. Crocea Mors himself returning the gesture as the cats walked back.

"Ha, two days and we've already expended most of our gathering equipment. The monsters are getting fairly scarce as well." A pout escaped her lips as she looked around at all the dead Ioprey. They'd carve, but they've already filled the bags to the brim. "Seriously why does my sister stay till the maximum allotted time?"

"Considering how long it took to get here, we'd have to leave tomorrow anyways if we want to make it back before Sunday." Jaune gave a hum as he looked around for the nth time. Throughout their entire stay, not a single sign of that Qurupeco had been spotted. Which was fairly disturbing, the guild's accuracy with such things were phenomenal. "Was that Iodrome not enough?"

"It was fun! Until it dropped iky bile all over me and made me sick…" The girl pouted as she looked down at her outfit. There was still some shades of purple on it.

A frown escaped his lips as he turns to look around the area. It was searched high and low but still nothing was found. "I guess we should pack up we've-" As he was speaking, a loud echo raged through the swamp. Turning into a brim roar. "Ru-" Jaune turned to the tinged red head, but noticed she was already running in that direction. "Ruby! Wait it's dangerous!"

By the time Jaune caught up to oddly fast girl. He was greeted with the sight of two monsters fighting. The aforementioned Qurupeco and what seemed to be a Purple Ludroth. It's long body twisted like a snake as it tried to make a collision with the Qurupeco in question. It'd raise its winged hands before slamming them together. The tinder on the hand of its limbs ignited loudly as it striked fire across the Ludroth. The monster was prepared to strike back, but the Qurupeco roared loudly. Mimicing the call of a Large Wyvern with its voice as the vibration caused the two hunters to cover their ears.

A hiss was given before the Ludroth retreated back into the swampy water. Leaving the Qurupeco to stare at the two. "Ruby, set up the traps! I'll take its attention." He spoke loudly as he withdrew his sword. A wide smile broke the tinged red heads lips as she bounced in excitement and moved for a clearing.

Jaune rushed in with his sword in hand. Giving a quick strike at the side of the bird's leg before he'd dash away from a lethal peck. His mind traced the beast, remembering the Ecology that Ruby told him. The bird had tinder on the end of its wings for elemental based attacks. Its beak was hard and its roar could be dangerous… A firm nod was given as he rushed in. Giving a slash across the stomach. The bird hissed and raised their palm to strike together, but Jaune rose his shield. Deflecting one of the arms as he'd shout. Slicing at one of the tinder's on the side of the bird's wing. An agony screeched as it'd stumble back.

As the beast stumbled back, a shell lodged itself into the same hand that Jaune sliced at. Staying there for a moment before it'd explode. The tinder of the bird flying off and hitting the ground. "I hit it Jaune! Did you see that! It was awesome!" Despite her distance, he could feel the excited face that she must had worn from that distance. Though the Bird-Wyvern immediately changed targets as the threat level rotated. Jaune cursed as he rushed after the bird that stampeded towards Ruby. "EEP!" She'd pick up her bow gun and start running.

"What happened to not being a damsel?!" Jaune shouted as Ruby hopped off a nearby cliff.

"Hey I totally got this!" Ruby shouted from the bottom. The bird in question would hop off the cliff as well before a loud explosion rocked at the bottom. The bird flying back up over the cliff before hitting the ground. The blonde edged the cliff to look at the mayham that was at the bottom. Several bombs were laid out everywhere. Ruby in position as she readied to fire. A low whistle escaped his lips as he watched the Qurupeco rise.

A loud roar vibrated its mouth as it rushed the girl. Who then decide to opt shooting at the barrels instead. Causing the bird to stagger in momentum as she moved from edge to edge to kite the beast around her strategically placed assortment. The Qurupeco started to fume as it grew quickly enraged. It's neck sack quickly expanded and distorted before another unique Wyvern sound came out.

Jaune jumped down the cliff and positioned near Ruby as they tensed for a moment. Looking around to prepare for the worst, but the only thing that approached was a limping Ioprey. That'd just merely hiss before plopping on the floor.

Jaune just blinked before air escaped his partner's mouth. "WHAT?" Laughter started escaping her lips as she pointed. "Jaune! Did you see that? You saw that didn't you?" A hot gust of wind rushed past their back as the two froze. Slowly looking behind themselves to see the face of a Zinogre. "Jaune… how did that sneak up on us."

Jaune slowly inched his hand towards his pouch as sweat beaded from his face. "I don't… know." He spoke. The Zinogre leaned back with a roar. Lightning cracked from its spiked fur up into the horns on the head. Jaune quickly opened the pouch on his side as he tossed a pile of dung into the beast's face. The dung would viciously explode. Coating it in brown murky substance. The beast coughed and hacked as it staggered back. Trying to wipe its face away.

"Ugh! Jaune what is that?!" Ruby instantly covered her nose as the smell permuted to their location despite the distance. Jaune merely pushed Ruby back as he lifted his shield. The tail of the Zinogre slamming into him as he'd get launched to the side. He'd flip twice before catching himself and rushing the thunder beast.

"Ruby, distract the Qurupeco! I'll lead this one away." Ruby gave a determined nod as she turn back and rushed the bird. A quick leap was given as she easily broke height. Giving some shots at the Qurupeco's back side before she'd land on the cliff. A clust shell was loaded as she took aim. Firing at the Bird-Wyvern that attempted to fly with a dismantled wing.

Jaune circled around the beast. As he took pot shots at the scaled side. The beast in question couldn't use their senses as both sight and smell were muffled up. Using only sound or feel to get where the hunter was at. Though every time the Zinogre swiped its claws or tails as the teen. He'd merely press his foot to the ground before dashing so hard, the wind pressure broke and he'd slide away.

With a roar, the Zinogre dashed away. Lightning started to crack as orbs of condensed light started to float out of its body. Jaune's eyes widened as he stared at the specular. A beauty of its own as they slowly paced in random directions. Though such an act ended as he noticed majority of the lightning were heading towards him. "Damn it!" He'd shout as he skidded across the swampy ground. Avoiding the balls that hit the ground and spark up from moisture. All good things must come to and end. As he dodged the final ball, the Zinogre rushed into his location. Slamming a back paw into the teen as he'd fly away.

Hitting the edge of the cliff before he'd bounce of awkwardly and land ontop of it. "Ow…" A soft defeated voice came to as he just continued to lay there.

"Jaune!" A worried panic came from Ruby's voice as she left position to check on her partner.

"Guess I'm the damsel now. Can you grab me a potion?" Ruby quickly looked through her belt before she'd grab some of the few they had left. Poison really was trouble she thought as she let the medicine rejuvenate the teen. "Oh crud…" He'd speak as he turned his head. Seeing the Qurupeco scale the cliff and begin to rush them.

A smirk left Ruby's lip as she picked up her Jaggid Fire. Loading a red round into it as she turned. Before the bird could get to them, a hidden shock trap would go off in the position Ruby was once at. The bird screeching loudly as she pointed her bowgun and fired off plenty of rounds that smoked up in red puffs. The angry huffs began to leave the Qurupeco before it'd hit the ground and like a sack of bricks.

"Oh." Jaune stated as Ruby just gave another cheeky grin at him. "My hero." His eyes rolled slightly as he got up and began to approach the bird. The air-balloon in the air let out a loud horn. A sign of the quest being completed. Ruby herself was all smiles as she bounced up and down at their first big game.

"Oh Yang is going to be so jealous when I tell her about this! I can't wait to show he-" Though as the two got near. A Rathian slamed ontop of the Qurupeco. A loud roar echoed from its lungs before a giant bite was taken at the neck of the beast. Tearing through its rubbery expandable skin as a metal box was torn out from the throat. The Rathian took no moment as it'd just fly off, leaving one dead peco and two Felyne's plopping off its back. Giving a defeated meow.

"Oh." Jaune said as Ruby stood there stunned.

AN: Not much to say about the massive delay, too many excuses I could add here. I'd like to thank everyone and their continued support. Even those who kept adding the story even after months of inactivity. Hope you enjoyed the chapter.
clearorangeI kind of want them to be distracting and out of place, considering that's what's happening to the characters when it happens.
ScrewthehypeYeah, back stories can be pretty intense. Considering that the world of MH is like RWBY. Lost technology of an ancient civilization. Heck the Gunlance was excavated from some ruins and recreated. Also when it comes to Omakes, I like to keep it relevant to something that's already happened.
XarksTheHunterI'm still doing more research on the topic. I totally dived into this entire thing without having any information on the Monster Hunter side besides equipment and monsters.
Epyon LegiumYeah, there's no fall damage in the game. You can jump off giant Cliffside Mountains and land okay with only a thud. Felynes do cartwheels while going down.
And a good thanks to

Omake Times:

A Rathian slammed ontop of the Qurupeco. Giving a loud roar towards Jaune and Ruby. "Why would you do such a thing?!" The true wyvern cried out. "It only wanted a hug!" It'd use the wing to left up the destroyed flint. "A HUG AND THIS? SHAME ON YOU" The Rathian shouted as it'd start to drag the Qurupeco away.

"Oh." Jaune said as Ruby stood there stunned.
