(( AN: Thank you guys for the lovely reviews! Ebony - I am so, so glad that you managed to carry on being amazing, and it literally made my day reading that I inadvertently helped, and thank you so much for your kind words. Here is chapter 5 - sorry, I couldn't resist a very slight Holby City crossover - although I know they're not anywhere near eachother - I hope you can forgive me ;) - here you go. I hope it isn't too disappointing!))

Beeping. All he could hear was beeping. The same, hollow sound, over and over again. Beep. Beep. Beep. What was happening? Realising he could easily find out, Josh opened his eyes to a white, almost blinding light shining in his face. Blind panic set in and he sat up frantically, rubbing his eyes to make it go away, and as the light disappeared, he became aware of the fact he was in a room full of various machines - one or two of them attached to his chest. He looked around, discovering there was no-one there and wondered what the hell was happening. Suddenly, it all came rushing back to him as he looked down to see a large white bandage on his left wrist - Pizza Hut, Lauren's birthday, the toilets, the blade, the ambulance, Finn - shit, Finn. Scared and slightly confused, thoughts started to flood his mind but before he could properly get his head round what was happening, the door opened - it was Tom.
"Oh thank God, you're awake!" Tom exclaimed, rushing over and enveloping his son in a tight hug. They weren't usually a hugging family, and Josh knew that his father must have been worried sick to react like this.
"Dad, I'm so sorry - it was, it was an accident, I didn't mean to-" he was cut off by Tom's voice.
"I know son, I know. I'm just glad you're okay. Why didn't you tell me about it sooner, Josh? Has the doctor explained what happened?"
"Erm, no, I've only just woken up..." Josh was desparate to find out if he was going to be okay. At that moment a blonde nurse in a light blue uniform walked in, and beamed when she realized he was conscious.
"Ah, Josh! Glad to see you've come round, you had us worried for a second! I'm Chantelle." Her made up face was a comfort to Josh, who was still concerned about what exactly had gone on in the space of time he'd been out of it.
"What happened? I mean, I know what happened, but how long was I out for? Have I done any damage?" The fear in his voice was becoming more apparent by the syllable, but he was quickly reassured by the nurse, who explained.
"The cut on your arm severed a vein and a couple of nerves, which meant you lost quite a lot of blood and that's why you were unconscious. Dr Malick, the consultant here, has stitched it up. You might have a very small percentage of lost feeling, but you should regain full movement", she reassured him.
"The doctor said if it was 2 millimetres to the right, you could've hit an artery", Tom said, his face a pale grey colour. Jesus, thought Josh. I must've really scared everyone. He registered that Chantelle, the nurse, was talking again.
"Now, someone from the mental health team will come and assess you, because of the nature of your injury, but apart from that you're physically fine to be discharged, as long as you keep the wound clean and come back in 2 weeks to get the stitches out". Josh inwardly shuddered at the thought of having to talk to a shrink, but he'd agree if it meant getting out of this place.
"What about Finn and Lauren? Where are they?", Josh asked Tom, who was still visibly shaken.
"Lauren went home after... after they found you. Finn - he stayed whilst they were patching you up, but he had to go about 20 minutes ago. You just missed him, actually." Tom responded.
"Did he say anything? I mean, about the..." Josh gestured to his wrist, not wanting to say it out loud. Tom flinched, clearly not wanting to acknowledge Josh's self destructive behaviour either.
"Not really, just that he hopes you're better soon and to give him a ring."
Josh sighed with relief - maybe Finn didn't hate him, or think he was a freak. He didn't have many friends, so the ones he did have he kept close to him. Well, as close as he'd let them get. He still didn't want them to see the real Josh - but it was a bit late for that now.
