Chapter 7: Shadows Within Shadows

*Meanwhile...In the jungle surrounding Baba Yaga Castle...

BlackSatar was on his knees, stained with blood in several areas, and barely able to catch his breath. He turned his head just enough to look over his shoulder and confirm, with his own eyes, what just happened. He defeated the samurai, Mifune.

Mifune was not dead, but he laid there unconscious in defeat. BlackStar stared at Mifune for a while. He was really the only person that BlackStar could consider a rival, but even considering someone a rival was too much for BlackStar to accept. Afterall, if he was going to transcend the Gods he couldn't allow someone else's power to rival his own, right?

He turned his head back and cracked a subtle yet victorious smile. He nearly fell to the ground but he was caught be Tsubaki as she changed to her human form. She gasped, worrying that he might pass out. "BlackStar! Are you okay?"

He didn't respond right away causing Tsubaki to worry even more. But before she could ask him again, she felt his hand come up on her shoulder. He then pulled himself back up and with his other hand gave a thumbs up. Her eyes widened as he brought up his face to look at her. He was smiling as if nothing was wrong, as if the wounds he received were not even there. "Of course I'm okay. I am ME after all." he said casually to reassure her.

Tsubaki's mouth slowly started to form into a smile as she felt tears start to form in the corners of her eyes. Almost out of instinct, she stood up, pulling BlackStar off the ground with her, and hugged him. BlackStar just continued to smile and eventually hugged her back; he knew that she was just relieved he was okay.

She eventually pulled away from him and whipped the tears from her eyes. "Sorry..." she said with a slight sniffle. "I'm just glad that you're alright..."

"Yeah, I know..."

She took her hand away from her eyes and smiled at him. But she then looked over to Mifune. "So...Is it over...?" she asked even wondering if he was still alive.

BlackStar turned around to look at him as well. He smirked. "The guy definitely ain't dead, but yeah. I think we're done here."

Tsubaki then turned around once the sound of war had made itself known to her once more. "Well..." she began. "It's not entirely over."

BlackStar smiled at the thought of kicking even more ass. He turned around and put his hand on Tsubaki's shoulder, causing her to turn to look at him. "So what do ya say we go finish it?" he asked in an insuring way.

She smiled at him and then transformed back into the uncanny sword. She spoke as he grabbed her and started to run off. "We should get that little witch that he was protecting. If he's not able to defend her, then who knows what Arachnophobia will do to her if they find out that he can't help them anymore."

BlackStar continued to run through the jungle completely unworried. He didn't even care about his wounds anymore, he just kept running towards the castle. He smirked. "Of course we'll get her out of there. After all, a God's gotta protect his people." Tsubaki made a faint smile in her weapon form as BlackStar ran.

*Somewhere in the skies...

Death the Kid was still soaring through the skies on his way back to the DWMA. He looked once more at the demon tool that he had obtained in the abandoned city (remember all this is still taking place during the anime). Not only could he not take his eye off it but he couldn't stop thinking about what that clown said. Being worthy, having to create clown-like robots as guardians, what did any of this mean. Kid could not help but think that there was something else transpiring on the sidelines that even his father could not grasp.

"Hey Kid, you okay?" the voice of one of his weapons snapped him back to reality.

"I'm fine, Liz. But I have a lot on my mind right now..."

"Like what...?" she asked.

"Well..." he looked at the horizon as the tired sun began lowering itself while the moon began to peak its menacing grin out from over the land. "At first I thought that father wasn't telling me everything and that there was a lot of things involving Eibon he didn't want me or anyone else too know..." he looked at the demon tool again. "And while I still believe that he is keeping secrets from me, I can't help but feel that there's something else going on here..."

Liz felt a little worried about whatever he was getting at. Patty was also paying close attention. "But What else could there be? Don't we already know that Eibon had something to do with Arachnophobia?"

"Yes but..."

They both waited for him to respond, for his silence was unsettling. He finally responded. "There's us,Medusa, Arachnophobia, the Kishin, and Eibon. But I can't help but feel that there is a sixth player in all this."

There eyes widened. "You mean someone else is playing with us?" Patty asked in a childish way.

"But who else is there?" Liz asked.

"I'm not sure. But then again, it's just an assumption. There's no need to get all worked up yet." he looked around trying to see if he could make out where he was. "We need to get back to the DWMA as fast as possible."

He increased the speed on his Beelzebub board...

...

As Kid flew off, he was to occupied with getting back to the DWMA, that he never noticed the two creatures following him.

"He's getting to far away..." one of them said in a hissing voice.

"It's okay. We already know where he's heading." the second one said, with an equally disturbing voice. He smiled. "Besides, we're not supposed to do anything until Asura is taken care of, remember?"

The first one frowned. "That could take forever." he said angrily.

"Patience..." the second responded as he continued to watch Kid fly off. "We've waited for nearly ten years, I think you can wait a little longer." he said as his already eerie smile shifted into a terrifying grin.

Who or what were these two? And How come Kid could not detect there soul wavelengths? Perhaps it's because he was too focused on something else, or perhaps...it was because they possessed no souls...

*Back inside Baba Yaga Castle...

Mosquito was standing outside the large doors leading to Arachne's bedroom. Well...he wasn't standing as much as he was pacing back and forth with sweat dripping down his face, waiting eagerly for a progress report. As he walked back and forth, the sound of someone's footsteps approaching him caught his ears and caused him to stop moving. "Well it's about time..." he said with little patience left.

But the person to step into the light was Eibon, who Mosquito had ordered to make sure all was going accordingly with the weapons room. Noah-er-I mean Eibon tilted his hat up to reveal his eyes. "Hell, sir..." he said nonchalantly.

"Oh it's you..." Mosquito said with a little disgust. "What is it? Unless you have something to report then I suggest you le-"

"Mifune has been defeated..."

Mosquito paused and his eyes widened. "What!?" he screamed. He them caught his mouth not wanting Lady Arachne to think that there was a problem. He then looked back at Eibon with anger. "What...?" he growled. "How could that happen?"

"Simple, he was just defeated. And I think the guy that did him in is on his way here now."

Mosquito couldn't believe what he was hearing. He was hopping for a normal soldier to walk in and say that everything was fine, but instead he had to be given this terrible news from this terrible guy. He took his head off and wiped the sweat from his forehead. "In that case..." he said coming to a realization. "I suppose our deal to ensue miss Angela's safety is off." he looked at Eibon again. "Why don't you make yourself useful and take care of her?"

He tilted his hat again. "Will do..." he said as he turned around and began to head off.

As Eibon left the room, Mosquito sighed heavily. He hoped that Lady Arachne would be able to get the Kishin to help them in a more combat related way soon.

The witch Angela was alone in the room that the Arachnophobia soldiers had placed her in. She was sitting on a bed kicking her feet back and forth, hoping that Mifune might come and play with her soon.

Eventually, the door started to creak open. Angela instantly jumped off the bed and smiled hoping that it would be her samurai friend. "Mifune?!" she exclaimed happily.

But that feeling of excitement instantly died when she saw, not Mifune, but a tall much darker looking man with a hat and leather jacket standing in the door way instead. He held his hand out. "You need to come with me..." he said with a monotone voice.

Angela felt a strange energy from this guy. She was scared...

*Back at the DWMA...

Believe it or not, Maka, Crona, Soul, and Marie were still waiting for the others to come out with an answer for Medusa's situation. Crona was worried as fuck. She believed that everything would go well but it was taking so long that she could not help but feel something was wrong.

Maka and Soul were starting to get really bored. Marie actually nearly fell asleep while leaning against the doors. The three being so bored heavily contrasted with how worried Crona was. Ragnarok popped out of Crona for what must have been the one hundredth time to whine about the same damn thing that he had been for nearly an hour. "OH FOR GOD'S SAKE! This is taking too damn long! Can't we at least go get something to eat while waiting?"

"You've asked that question one hundred times and for the one hundredth time you get the same answer: NO!" Marie exclaimed, annoyed with how impatient a person could be.

Ragnarok groaned as he sank back in to Crona.

But at last, one of the doors actually opened. Marie stumbled back because it was the door she was leaning against. They all shot up and they're attention completely fell on whoever was opening it. The one's to come out where Spirit and Azusa. "Well..." Spirit began. "We reached a decision."

They all smiled and asked the same thing. "What is it...?"

Spirit then pointed to the inside of the death room. "Actually, Lord Death wants to tell you in person." this actually confused all of them but rather than waste anymore time, they decided to go with it.

As they entered, Maka looked up at her father. "What about you? Are you guys staying out here?"

"Yeah we are. Lord Death only wants to talk to you guys now. Stein's in there but I think that he just wants to here what you have to say about this."

Maka nodded and proceeded to walk into the death room.

...

They were all finally gathered together. The group was a little surprised to see Medusa standing by Death's side as if she was one of them, perhaps she was, hopefully.

Death spoke. "Well, I'm sure you're all very tired of waiting out there, so I think I'll get straight to the point."

They all waited eagerly to here what he had to say. "After Much consideration..." he began. "And with a suitable punishment to be thought of later, we have decided to let Medusa join us in exterminating the Kishin."

They all made faint smiles but Crona felt her eyes fill with tears to here such relief. Crona jumped at Medusa and wrapped her arms around her mother. Caught off guard, Medusa fell to the ground with her daughter hugging her tightly. "I'm so glad you're going to be okay." she whined.

Everyone else was also caught a little off guard. Medusa cracked a nervous smile as she pulled herself, along with Crona, off the ground. "Um, yeah, I'm glad to..." she said trying to make Crona stop Crying.

"Anyway..." Death said slowly turning his head back to the others. "Medusa is going to assist Stein and myself in thinking of a way to ultimately take down the Kishin."

Stein stepped forward. "Medusa believes that by utilizing our own madness we can terminate the kishin's."

They all looked at him oddly. "Is that possible?" Maka asked.

Medusa smiled. "If everything goes accordingly, yes, I believe it can be done."

"And what if it doesn't go accordingly?" Soul asked.

Medusa covered Crona's ears and smiled. "Then we're fucked." she said nonchalantly.

They all looked at her with wide eyes. "You're kidding, right?"

Medusa took her hands off Crona's ears. "Well of course. I always have a couple of insurances prepared in case anything goes wrong."

Death stepped forward. "Yes, but unfortunately we do not have time to test this theory."

Everyone was silent for a moment.

Death's eyes narrowed. "It's now or never, e have to take Arachnophobia and the Kishin down NOW!"
