Chapter 7: Training
This is way overdue to be updated, so here you go. If you're still reading it.
Jayden changed and waited for the others to come out. They did, and the boys stood in front of the girls, and Mia stood slightly in front of Emily. Jayden noticed a livid bruise under Emily's right eye, and he winced. That must have hurt.
"I don't know your skill set or what level you guys are on," said Jayden," So today, we're just going to spar. And I guess this is a bad idea until you trust me, but I have to know where you are, so I can work with individual needs. At least physically. Does anyone want to go first?"
They looked at each other and then Kevin stepped forward. He was tense when he got into position to start sparring. Jayden stared at him, and he finally said, "Relax, you're never going to get anywhere being so tense." Kevin tried to relax, and he eventually did. Kevin lasted five minutes and then Jayden took him down. Kevin automatically went to his knees, and when Jayden held his hand out to help him up, he flinched before cautiously taking it. When Jayden just helped him up, he smiled slightly at him.
Mike went next, and he only lasted two minutes. When he fell, he curled up into a ball, and Jayden was lost for words. "Umm, Mike," said Jayden, cautiously, "You don't have to do that. I'm just going to help you up." And when he did, Mike relaxed and gave him a goofy grin. Jayden smiled widely at that.
Mia went next, and the boys tensed. Jayden and Mia sparred, and she lasted five minutes as well. Mia stayed on the ground for a second and then took Jayden's hand. He helped her up and smiled gently at her.
"Emily, you ready?" asked Jayden, and everyone looked at each other. The boys and Mia were tense, and Emily looked terrified. "What's wrong, guys?" asked Jayden, "I'm not going to hurt her."
"I …" Emily started, but she stopped and looked at him fearfully.
"What, Emily? It's okay. You can tell me," said Jayden gently.
"I don't know how to spar," said Emily, "Whenever we sparred, I could only stand there, and when I was allowed to move, I couldn't continue to move out of the way continually, I had to block, and I didn't know how to block what she was doing."
Jayden sighed, and he said, "Okay, I'll teach you." So Jayden taught her the basic moves, like the normal kick, punches, and how to block all sorts of things. Since they didn't quite trust him yet, he let Mike attack while she defended. "Good job, everybody," said Jayden, "Take a break, and be out here at one to do symbol training."
