A/N: Sorry to those who have waited so long for an update. I've been working on a few other projects. Anyways, here you go!

Chapter 6

In another concrete hallway, the sound of the Doctor's sonic screwdriver echoed out from underneath a manhole cover before there was silence. Silence filled the air for a slight moment before there was a loud grunt and the cover flew off the raised platform that guarded the hole it covered; the cover hitting the concrete ground with an almighty clatter. Quickly the Doctor climbed out of the hole followed by River, Amy, Rory, Jack and Bree who brought up the back of the line and placed the manhole cover back in its place after returning to solid ground. White lights were stationed along the large cavernous and damp corridor; each light covered with a wrought iron cage. The only source of light in the corridor came from these lights and the bright fiery glow from the end of the hall.

Looking around, Bree smiled slightly at a fond memory as she looked at her cold concrete surroundings. "This reminds me of the halls at the SGC, only the size of a military hanger." She said in awe, earning an odd look from Amy.

"What's the SGC?" she asked in confusion.

Bree looked at her in alarm before shaking her head quickly. "Nothing." She said as her brown hair flew about. After that, the girl started making her way towards the bright orange light far off from where they stood at a quick pace. The Doctor remained where he stood, taking in his surroundings before touching the damp walls. With the moisture from the walls on his fingers, he licked them before thinking for a moment and turning to where Bree was walking away after deciding his private assumption was correct.

"Bree…" he called slowly to the girl's retreating form.

Nevertheless, Bree never turned around to face the Time Lord as she replied. "Okay okay, I might have brought us down a little further than the ladder by the TARDIS would have taken us… about four times the depth or more. I'd definitely say more though." Bree called back. "Let's face it, I saved us time by bringing us where I did. Besides, who wants to go down long latter after long latter, after long latter for who knows how long?" waving her hands around in such a way it could rival the Doctor himself.

"So where are we?" Rory asked, trying to make sense of the teenager's logic.

Bree smiled widely, and beckoned the group forwards to join her. Once they were regrouped, with Bree in the lead, they started walking towards the large opening bathed in orange light. "Right where we want to be," Bree replied "The planet core."

As she uttered those few words, the group found themselves in a massively expansive chamber with a large and bright ball of red, orange and black ball of fire in the middle of the chasm. Everyone squinted at the sight before them, but nonetheless stayed where they were.

"This used to be a small sun," the Doctor said as he raised his hand to shield his eyes from the light. "Billions of years ago though, the planet we've been walking was formed around the sun by a gravitational pull."

"Its energy was harnessed to power the entire planet." Bree continued the Doctor's explanation. Staring through squinted and shielded eyes, Bree mumbled in awe "The sun is the power source."

The look of amazement slowly disappeared from Amy's face as what the Doctor and Bree had said sunk in before she finally asked an important question. "So hang on, if this is a sun, why aren't we being blinded?"

"Or seeing spots?" Rory added on to his wife's question.

"There's a containment field around the core, protecting the core from anything and anyone who comes near it; us included, and it also harnesses the energy from the core." Bree explained, as she continued to study the wonder before her. "Look," she picked up a stone from off the ground, and looking to the great mass before she wound her arm back, and threw the stone over the platform with unbelievable tremendous strength. It soared through the air before finally colliding with the invisible shield. At contact, the shield's octagon grid lined field flickered with energy, fluctuating at the compact of the foreign object. The rock itself exploded to smithereens at contact, creating a small explosion.

At the explosion, everyone turned away, covering their eyes and face for protection from the added light. When the explosion finally subsided, Bree turned to the Pond's and smiled. "See? Nothing can get in," she said before turning to the small splendor in front of her. "And nothing can get out."

It was silent for a moment before someone spoke the words everyone was thinking. "But there has to be a way to turn off the shield somehow." Jack said.

The Doctor clapped, spinning around before settling on a direction and started to walk towards another cavernous hallway. "That's probably what our little friend is up to right now." He said as he walked away, his friends jogging after him.

"Time to find out what we're really up against." River said smirking as she joined her husband's side.

As the group walked away from the core, Bree stopped, falling behind the group as she stared at the multiple levels and platforms higher up in the cavern above her; watching and listening. Only Rory noticed she had stopped, he stopping too, waiting for the young girl.

"Bree, you okay?" he called out to her.

The girl stood looking up at a platform and doorway above her to the right of the planet core. "Can you hear that?" she whispered, cocking her head sideways as she listened intently.

Rory too cocked his head to listen carefully. Faintly he could hear the familiar bone-chilling hum that he couldn't exactly name, but was familiar nonetheless, as well as a loud, metallic stomping could be heard from the small doorway. "What is that?" Rory whispered back.

Rory couldn't see Bree's face, but her eyes had grown wide in realization to the point where they could not go any wider. The moment she finally put the pieces of the puzzle together, Bree whirled around to face Rory with a seemingly genuine cheery grin; not a trace of the horror that had been present just moments ago. "S'just the power converters." She said cheerfully, skipping over to the man. Grabbing his hand, she pulled him along as she ran. "Now cummon, we're falling behind!"

"Bree?" the Doctor called back as he walked down the corridor leading his companions along quickly. The girl in question ran up to him with a smile on her face.

"Doctor?" she returned as they continued to walk.

"How often can you teleport at a time?" he asked, looking at her curiously.

Bree just shrugged, a careless look on her face. "Infinitely."

A smile lit up the Time Lord's face as he considered the possibilities. "Do you think you could teleport us to the construction city district?" he asked. "We might be able to find something there."

A smile lit up Bree's face as well, holding her hand out to the Doctor as they stopped walking, a hand which the Doctor gladly took in his own. Looking to the others, the Doctor jerked his head towards the pair's hands, signalling to the others to follow suit. Once everyone was in a circle surrounding the stack of hands, the Doctor looked across the circle to Bree and nodded. "Geronimo." He said in a hushed tone with a grin.

In a snap and a flash of black and red energy, the group was gone.

On the upper levels above the core in the construction district, there was the same snap and flash from the lower levels and the Doctor and his companions appeared; Bree easily walking away from the group as soon as her boots hit solid ground.

"Cummon." She said, waving to her friends to follow her into a hallway away from the balcony they had landed on, giving them a view of half completed building and steel skeletons of the slowly constructed buildings. After a moment of staring at the scene before them, they followed Bree who led them down a fully constructed hallway and into a complete lounge. Everyone immediately sat down on the sofas in the room or stood where they felt comfortable while Bree stood in front of the door with her arms crossed. Once she saw all eyes and ears were on her, she smiled gave a care-free shrug.

"Right then, I'm just going to do a quick sweep of the building. Be back in a moment." She promised before turning to the door.

"Wait, hold on." Rory said, standing up from the couch in surprise. "You can't be serious."

Bree turned to look at the nurse with mild concern. "I am. It'll be quicker if I do it on my own."

Rory looked from Bree to the Doctor and again in disbelief before settling on looking at the Doctor. "You're not honestly going to let her go out there alone; we don't know what's out there." He argued, worried about the young girl's safety.

The Doctor looked from Rory to Bree before nodding to Bree with a stoic expression. "Be careful." He warned gently, causing Rory to sigh in exasperation at not having the Doctor side with him.

Bree gave the Time Lord a soft smile. "Always." She promised nodding, before running out the door.

"Did you actually let a teenage girl run out on her own without knowing what's going on out there?" Rory asked unimpressed.

The Doctor looked at Rory, his face slightly sad, but fully knowing. "I trust Bree; she can take care of herself. I know she can." He promised, looking out into the dark hallway Bree had run out into.

For any people who are also Merlin fans, I also have a crossover story I've been updating like crazy called Magic in our Midst. The Doctor, Clara and Bree go to Camelot, and well... you'll see if you choose to read.

Thanks a bunch again!
