AN: Thanks for the reviews, here is the second to last chapter.
Chapter 7: What is this?
The next evening
When it struck 5 o'clock sharp, Sara's apartment door was being knocked on, so after Sara looked in mirror one more time to check her appearance, she grabbed her purse from the counter and walked to the door, then she took a breath and opened it, and when they saw one another, neither one was disappointed in what they saw.
She was wearing a light blue dress with thin straps that went down to her knees, her hair was in an updo and she had dabbed on a little make-up, which none of this was her usual attire, but she thought she would make her appearance very special tonight. And he was wearing a blue shirt with the top button undone with a nice men's dress coat, and black slacks.
He clears his throat and said. "You look, beautiful."
She smiled while trying to hide her blush. "And you don't look bad yourself."
He smiled before asking. "You ready?"
After she grabbed her coat from the hanger on the door she nodded before stepping out in the hall, while he moved out of her way, then after she closed and locked the door, Grissom takes her coat and helps her put it on. She tells him thank you before they walked toward the exit of the building.
Once they were outside, he walks her to the passenger side of his vehicle and helps her in before he walks to the driver's side, then after he shuts the door, he starts the vehicle and takes them to a Chinese restaurant so they could enjoy their meal.
When dinner was done he took her back to her apartment, and after she unlocked the door, she turned around and looked at him. "Thank you for dinner."
He smiled and asked. "Was it everything you ever thought of?"
She smiled with a nod. "It was." Then she loses the smile a little, then asked softly. "But I do have a question."
"Ok, what is it?"
She cleared her throat before speaking again. "Did you do this because of what you found out from Trevor yesterday?"
Grissom reaches out his hand slowly to her cheek, just in case she wanted to back away, but when she didn't, he cupped her cheek, stepped up to her, looked her in the eyes and replied. "I can't lie and say that it wasn't part of it, because it was. But I assure you, my reasons are so much more than that." She was waiting for him to continue, but instead, she gets surprised when he leaned over and kissed her softly on the cheek, which she closed her eyes as his touch.
As he pulled back, she opened her eyes, then he looked into them again before continuing. "I hope you rest up before shift tonight."
She gives him a little smile. "Don't worry I'll be ready."
He nodded, then after a smile, he stepped back, removing his hand from her cheek. "I'll see you then."
Sara just nodded and watched him turn and walk away, not even caring at the moment that she didn't get to hear his many reasons on why tonight finally happened, she was just in heaven because it did happen and she got a kiss. It may have not been on the lips, the one that she's been waiting for since three mornings ago, but right now that was ok.
She mentally sighed while she walked into her apartment and shutting the door behind her, knowing it was probably going to take a while before she got back to earth and mentally ready for work.
A little time before shift
Grissom was in his office doing the dreaded paperwork, or at least trying too since his mind wasn't exactly cooperating, because it was too busy thinking about other things, one person and all the things that involved her, in particular.
Before his thoughts could continue, they were interrupted when he heard. "Nice to have you back."
Grissom looked up from his desk to see Catherine standing in the doorway of his office, he gives her a little smile, then she walked into the room as he replied. "Thank you, and how was court?"
She sighed as she stopped behind one of the chairs that was in front of his desk. "Court was...Court." Grissom nodded in understanding, the team loved their jobs, but court and paperwork were the two things they disliked the most about it. Then Catherine smiled and asked him something, which if anybody knew her, knew she was going to ask. "So how was the conference?"
Grissom raised an eyebrow. "Which what you really mean to ask is how was it with Sara?"
She chuckled while shaking her head. "You know me too well." He gave her a little smile as she continued. "So how was it?"
He paused for a second, then replied after clearing his throat. "It was fine."
Of course overall it was more than that, but like he was going to give anything to her. He may have been opening up a little, but he wasn't quite ready, or if he'll ever be ready, to open up his personal life more to anybody who wasn't Sara.
"Fine, just fine?"
Grissom nodded. "Yeah, it was."
Catherine tried to see if there was more to his weekend then just fine, but she knew it was a losing battle. He can be too hard to figure out sometimes, and she found out that the topic of Sara was always hard to get out of him.
Catherine mentally sighed, finally giving up, then nodded with a smile. "Well I'm glad, so you set your differences aside?"
Grissom sets his pen down, and closes the file before standing up from his chair with another nod. "I believe we did." Catherine gives him another smile, happy that things will hopefully be better now. Then after Grissom grabbed the assignment sheets from his desk, him and Catherine walked out of his office so he could start shift.
When they made it into the break room the rest of the team was sitting down at the conference table talking, then after Warrick noticed Grissom, he smiled and replied. "Welcome back, Griss."
He gives his team a smile and replied to Warrick. "Thank you Warrick, I see the lab is still standing while I was away."
They chuckled, then Nick nodded. "Catherine filled your shoes perfectly, we couldn't have asked for a better boss this weekend." Warrick agreed with a nod.
Catherine smiled, happy about the praise. "Thanks Nicky." Nick smiled with a nod.
After Grissom got back their attention and passed out the assignment sheets, he told them to be safe, and once they stood up from their seats, they all left the room, but Sara didn't leave until him and her shared a look and small smile of their own.
When he was alone in the break room he sighed because he had to go back into his office and do paperwork since he didn't have any more cases, but when he got a call as he was walking in that direction, his was kind of glad, not that he wanted someone injured or dead, but he was a CSI and being out there was what he enjoyed the most about his work, plus anything to keep him away from the paperwork for as long as possible.
After shift
When the crimes were solved and the paperwork for those cases were done, the team, excluding Grissom, was in the locker room getting ready to leave, then as Nick closed his locker since he was ready first, looked over at Sara and asked. "So how about breakfast to welcome you back?"
Sara smiled and was about to move her head to look at him so she could reply, but stopped herself when she felt her phone vibrate at her side. She then pulled her phone off her phone clip and looked at the text message she received. 'Breakfast at my place, you in?' Then she looked over at Nick and replied. "How about tomorrow?"
"Sure, tomorrow is great."
Sara smiled as she closed her locker. "Alright, I'll see you all next shift."
They nodded, then after she grabbed her jacket, she walked out of the room, while Nick, Warrick and Catherine were looking at one another, wondering what was going on, then Nick said. "Maybe she met somebody?"
Warrick smiled. "It could explain her good mood, it has been better today than it had been in months."
Catherine nodded. "True."
After a pause, Nick continued the conversation. "But then again if she had met somebody, wouldn't there have been more tension between Sara and Grissom, or any at all, because to be honest I didn't feel any between them today."
After another pause, Warrick looks at them and asked. "You guys don't suppose that something happened between her and Grissom on their conference trip, do you?"
They all looked at each other for a second, then they shook their heads with a smile and Nick said. "Nah, he would have to actually open up, and do you see that happening any time soon?"
Catherine shuts her locker before looking at the younger men and spoke, defending her friend and truly believing what she was saying. "Stranger things have happened Nicky, and I wouldn't go and count him out just yet, one day he might surprise you." Then she grabbed her bag and walked out of the locker room while saying bye, leaving the two guys alone.
When it was just them in the room, Warrick spoke. "Well she does have point there."
Nick nodded. "Yeah, she does, and I think we can all agree that if both of them are happy, then we should just let them be."
Warrick smiled with a nod of his own. "And that is good point too." Then after shutting his locker, he asked. "So since there was a change of plans you want to get out of here and play a little Madden Football?"
Nick chuckled as he grabbed his jacket from the bench. "You are one." Before walking out of the room with Warrick following.
After Sara got out of her vehicle, she walked to the correct townhouse door, stopped in front of it and took a breath before knocking.
A few seconds later, Grissom gives her a welcoming smile as he moved to the side. "Welcome."
Sara gave him a smile in return and walked into his townhouse, a place she's only been in once, and that was to talk about a case years ago when he was suspended.
Once he closed the door, he asked. "You want something to drink?"
She tore her eyes away from his butterfly casing that was on his wall to look at him. "Coffee?"
He nodded, then told her to make herself at home before he walked toward the kitchen, and after it was made and he handed her the cup, he goes back into the kitchen and starts making them breakfast.
When the food was done and the plates were made, they sat at his dinning room table and ate with little talk. Then as they were finishing up their meal, Sara cleared her throat and finally asked. "Grissom, why are you doing this?" He was about to talk, but she continued before he could. "It isn't that I didn't like dinner or the breakfast this morning, in fact I loved it all, but what is this? You said last night that this was more than just because of Trevor's offer, I need to know what."
Grissom nodded as he scooted back the chair he was sitting in so he could get up, then he walked over to her side of the table and held out his hand, and after she scooted her chair back, she took it before he helped her up, then he walked them to his couch.
Once they were sitting down, he looked down at their clasped hands before he looked into her eyes, then he took a breath and said. "Before I tell you, can I ask you a question first?"
She wanted to get right to the point, but the look in his eyes was showing how scared he actually was before he even asked the question, so she stopped herself from saying that, and instead, nodded. "Sure, what is it?"
He took a few seconds before he cleared his throat and asked. "Is me trying here a waste of time? Is it too late for me? For there to be an us?"
As they looked into each other's eyes, he doesn't believe that he's ever been more nervous or scared about an answer to one of his questions before.
With emotions swirling all over in Sara, which included shock, she took a breath before she opened her mouth.
AN: I know, don't kill me. Anyways, next chapter is the last, and find out what Sara will say to Grissom, and Trevor. Please Review.
