Chapter 7

She knew she shouldn't do it; it was a fucking stupid idea, especially now something was finally going right, it made no sense to jeopardise it. But anything had to be better than this stomach churning anxiety she constantly felt. Despite several conversations with Harry over the past week, Isla still couldn't quite believe her luck, couldn't shake the feeling that something was going to go horribly wrong, and she'd be back to square one. She had been given a generous advance on the condition she quit her job at the café and was available to be called for rehearsals at a moment's notice, at the time it had seemed such a good idea, but now what happened if everything fell through?

Turning the small packet of white powder over in her hands again she took a deep breath, how easy it would be to just take it and all these feelings would disappear for a few hours, but then what would happen after? It would all be ten times worse. Pushing the packet away she pulled out her phone and sent a text before she could properly think about what she was doing. Now the anxiety had tripled, but it was too late to unsend now. Sighing, returned the drugs to the box then heaved herself off the bed, it wouldn't do to have guests the flat in this state.

To say Jim was surprised was an understatement; he was having dinner with a client in a very posh part of London when he received a text he'd never thought in a million years he'd get.

"Come over? Isla x"

He smirked as he realised she never felt the need to give him her address; she knew he was keeping an eye on her and most likely knew silly details like that. Feeding his client some piss-poor excuse he got up and left, fuck the bill they could get it. He could always offer to knock it off his fee's. He did wonder what had made her text him; the fiery girl he'd met at the bar would never have done that, so something had obviously happened. He wasn't naïve enough to think that there was any innuendo in the message, she wasn't asking for sex just some kind of comfort and if he was honest that worried him more.

Half an hour Isla was stomping around her flat calling Jim all the names under the sun, arrogant bastard couldn't even be bothered to message me back. Serves you right for being so bloody needy she thought, inhaling on her cigarette. She knew this would happen; he'd had his banter with her and now wasn't interested. Barneys soft growling broke through her inner monologue, her heart stopped as she heard the footsteps, then the knocking. He'd actually turned up. Fighting the bile rising in her throat she shouted

"It's open"
