Nimbasa Academy Dorms
Saturday
Noon
"Touko honey, are you okay?"
"No, we need to fix this."
"Touko, what's wrong?"
"Iris get off the couch it's not straight."
"Hold on, does that mean the couch is gay?"
"COULD EVERYONE STOP TALKING?" Solidad, Dawn, and Iris stopped what they were doing and stared at Touko. "Thank you." Touko sighed. "N will be over in a few minutes, so we need to make sure the dorm is spotless."
Iris raised an eyebrow. "Oh?" The purple-haired girl began to grin. "You want to impress N or something? Show him how good at woman things you are?"
"Iris, stop being a kid." Touko teased. "And no, he said that he was bringing friends." Iris froze. "Trip will be over. On another note, do you still feel like leaving your lingerie out like that?" She pointed to a laundry basket filled with Iris's clothes.
"Shit." Iris shot up and grabbed the basket. She then disappeared upstairs to her room.
"I hope you don't mind," Solidad started, "but Dawn and I have a coordinator meeting today. We have to go." The young woman said. "I'm sorry we can't help clean."
Touko shook her head. "No, it's quite all right. Go ahead with your meeting."
Dawn waved. "Thanks Touko!" She hugged the trainer. "See yeah!" Her sleeve fell as she waved.
Touko's eyes fell to Dawn's arm. A small heart was tattooed on her wrist. "Uh, yeah. Bye." She waved too, albeit rather half-heartedly.
On their way out the door, Dawn and Solidad passed Kate, Lyra, and Zoey. "Hey guys." Solidad nodded to them.
Zoey smiled and waved. She shut the door when they left. "Okay. Kenny and I will be working on our Battle History project down here." She put her stuff down in the living room. "Please don't blow us up or something." Her eyes flashed to a giggling Kate. "Please."
Kate gave her a two-fingered salute. "No worries, Captain Z. Keith and I will be outside, blowing other people up."
Lyra moved back a bit. "Well, Silver and I have to work on a stupid dance thing. We'll have to work in Iris's room."
As if on queue, Iris slid down their staircase. "I heard my name. What's up?"
"We need to borrow your dance studio-room-thing." Lyra explained. "I hope you don't mind."
Iris grinned and clapped her hands. "Oh yes! This is great! Oh my Arceus I'll go set it up."
Touko chuckled. "Well, I'm glad you guys have plans." Someone knocked on the door. "That should be the boys. Behave yourselves." She glanced at Kate.
"Why is she so…" Lyra started.
"Pretentious?" Kate offered. "It's because N is coming. And she loooooves him." The girl made a kissy face.
"Like how you looove Keith?" Iris teased.
"N!" Touko greeted her friend. "Please, come in." She turned, glared at her friends, and led N inside. "I cleaned up the kitchen, so we can work in there."
N nodded. "Excellent. You have a lovely dorm. Ours is so dirty, and I can't seem to understand why." He shot a dirty look at Keith.
The boy snickered. "So Kate. Chemistry?" He asked the hyperactive teen.
She nodded and pulled out a big box. "Let's go blow shit to pieces." They hurried out the door and onto the front lawn. Pulling the top off the box, Kate grabbed two containers. One contained a yellow liquid, and the other an orange one.
"So what do these do?" Keith asked. "Create a nuclear reaction? Stink-bomb the nearest mall?"
Kate grinned. "Nope. Even better." She pulled out a Pokèball with a music note on it. "Kricketot, come on!" The tiny bug type popped out with a chime. "All right, now if we just mix these two together…" Kate opened the containers and dumped the orange into the yellow. She covered the container and shook it up. Then, she covered Kricketot with the liquid. "You may want to back up." She began to move away from her Pokémon.
Keith, absolutely confused, watched as Kricketot began to grow. "Oh my Arceus what have you done?" He shouted, backing away.
"It's Krick-aggedon!" Kate exclaimed. Kricketot chirped happily and began to walk down the street, passing screaming civilians. "Aww…my baby's all grown up." Kate bean to tear up.
Keith shook his head. "Man, you are one crazy chick." He said. He sauntered over to her and casually put his arm around her shoulder. "But I like crazy chicks."
The girl, to Keith's dismay, was too busy being proud of her Pokémon to notice.
-BREAK-
"Is anyone else concerned about the screaming outside?" Trip asked as the normal ones in the group sipped some tea.
Iris shook her head. "Nah. We're used to this."
"How long have you guys known each other?" Kenny asked.
Zoey thought. "For a while, I guess. Maybe six, seven years?"
"Wow." Silver said. "That's…long."
"That's what she said." Kenny snickered.
"Not to you!" Iris replied.
Lyra stifled a laugh. "Harsh." She stood up and stretched. "We should probably get started on our project." She said to Silver. "Iris, we're going up to your room."
Iris' eyes lit up. "I forgot you two were dancing! That's great! I can even give you pointers!"
Silver grunted. "We're good. Come on." He stalked upstairs, followed by Lyra.
"I'm going with them." Iris said to Zoey. "I could use a work out."
"Bye Iris!" Zoey waved. She looked at Trip. "So are you going with her?"
"Why would I?" Trip asked.
"Dude, you guys are totally–mmff!" Kenny was cut off when Zoey shoved her hand over his face.
"Someone has to make sure Silver and Lyra don't kill each other, and it's sure as hell not going to be Iris." Zoey replied.
Trip sighed. He got up and went up the stairs.
Zoey removed her hand from Kenny's face. "You can't just say those things." She scolded him. "Sure, we want them to date, but they're not going to get together if you talk like that."
"Sorry Zoey." Kenny apologized. "Anyway, do you want to start our project?"
"Yeah." She nodded and pulled out her laptop. "We can just make a PowerPoint about Snowpoint. I split up the notes so that we can each do some." She handed him a book. "This is the Battle History of Snowpoint. It has all the information on each gym leader. I'll take care of the Gym itself, the way it's been built, that kind of stuff."
"Cool." Kenny took the book and began to take notes. "So you're from Snowpoint? That's pretty cool."
Zoey laughed. "Was that an ice joke I heard?"
Kenny smiled shyly. "Maybe."
"Yeah, I am." Zoey clicked a file on her laptop. It was a picture of Zoey, Touko, Lyra, Iris, and Kate as kids. They were about eight or nine, and were bundled up in jackets and scarves. "When we were younger, we studied at the Snowpoint Battle Academy. This picture was taken on a school trip to Lake Acuity."
"You look cute." Kenny said, observing the picture. "I mean, you look cute in the picture. As a kid. Wait, I'm not saying you're not cute now, but I–"
Zoey kissed him on the cheek. "I get what you're saying. Now get to work, we don't have all day."
"Uh, yeah. I mean, yes Zoey!"
-BREAK-
"Lyra, you're not doing this right." Iris reprimanded her friend. "If you don't keep in time, you're going to keep stepping on Silver's feet."
"I don't think she's doing that on accident." Trip muttered.
"Well I wouldn't be stepping on his feet if you would stop distracting me!" Lyra shot back. "Why can't you two go do something else?"
"Like go make out or something." Silver added. Trip shot him a dirty look. "I'm just listing your options." The redhead justified his teasing.
Trip had lain down on the bottom bunk of Iris' bed, his Servine relaxing beside him. "I'd rather watch you two fail."
Iris shook her head. "Lyra, you're not going to pass your class if you don't get closer to Silver."
"If I keep doing this wrong, why don't you show me how to do it?" Lyra questioned.
"Fine." Iris grabbed Trip's hand and pulled him off the bed. "Now just put your hands here, and we're good."
"Why me?" He grumbled.
"Shut up and dance." She said bluntly.
Trip sighed, but complied. The two were in total sync, and were doing much better than Lyra and Silver.
"See? It's not horrible." Iris said to Lyra when they finished. "You guys can try."
"I can't." Lyra mumbled. "I'm never going to get this right."
"Not with that attitude." Silver said. "Come on, we've got it this time." He pulled her a little closer to him.
She blushed a bit. "All right."
Iris watched them as they danced. Lyra slowly began to get it, and they were soon gliding across the room. Iris smiled, happy that her friend was finally doing well. Lyra even looked like she was having fun. Iris glanced at Trip. She hated to admit it, but when they danced, she had felt something in her gut. Maybe it was butterflies from holding his hands, or maybe it was just because she was hungry. She hoped it was just the latter.
-BREAK-
Downstairs, N and Touko were trying not to set the kitchen on fire. As it turned out, N was absolutely horrible at cooking. Touko was torn between laughing and feeling bad for the boy.
"No, you don't use baking powder, you use baking soda. And don't mix that with the vinegar!" She directed him. "Here, let me take it."
"Thanks." N said gratefully. "I wish I had paid more attention when my mom was cooking."
Touko chuckled. "I get that. Sometimes I wished I had paid more attention when my dad taught me to play guitar."
"You can play guitar? That's fascinating!" N said. "I wish my parents could teach me that kind of stuff."
"My dad was great." Touko smiled softly. "He gave me my Cubchoo. I wouldn't be a trainer without him."
"Where is he now?"
"He died." She said.
"Oh." N paused. "I'm sorry."
"No, it's fine. He died right before I met my friends, so it was like going from one family to another."
N smiled again. "You and the girls are quite the strange family."
Touko nodded. "Definitely. But at least we balance each other out."
"What do you mean?"
She put the batter (they had settled on a cake) in the oven. "Well, Zoey's the smart one. She gets A's in every class. Her coordinator routines are well planned and smooth. Then there's Lyra, the athletic one. She's kind of a hothead, opposed to Zoey's cool attitude. Oddly enough, those two are best friends." She set the timer. "Iris is the 'wild child'. She's really into nature and such, and is great dancer. She's probably the most mature in the group, but has easily wounded pride."
"Especially when it comes to dragons." N noted.
"Exactly." Touko said. "Iris says that I'm the mom of the group. It's kind of the truth. I do the cooking and make sure everyone's okay. I also play music." She grabbed two glasses. "Want anything to drink? We have Chocolate Moomoo Milk."
"Sure."
She poured two glasses and handed one to N. "Last is Kate. She's the most creative of all of us. She's a brilliant artist, but is kind of nuts." They laughed. "Wait. Kate. CRAP!"
"What's wrong?"
"Kate and Keith are supposed to be in detention." She ran to the front room in the house.
"And where are they now?"
"I have no idea."

Not going to lie, I love fluff. And writing Vatongage and Shootsdown fluff especially. You can bet your hats that those two are going to get together first. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter.
Next Chapter: As the girls start to dig into the case, Paul and Barry make their mark at the Academy. Meanwhile, the boys discover that one of their teachers hides a dark secret.
