Okay, I know I said that the next chapter would be from Hiccup's point of view, but for the life of me I couldn't figure it out! So, I just jumped to where Rana wakes up after the incident.

Sorry for the wait! Hopefully this'll be worth it!

Read and Enjoy!

Chapter 6: Awakening & Recovering

When I came to, I noticed that I wasn't under a large pile of rocks as I'd expected. Rather something familiar. I opened my eyes and found myself laying on my bed in mine and Hiccup's shared room. As I sat up slowly, I noticed Skalm laying on what was usually Toothless's bed. She was sound asleep and seemed okay for the most part. Whatever injuries she had gotten in the crash were mostly gone. Even her previous injuries were nearly healed.

"How long was I out?" I murmured.

"About a week." I jumped and saw Hiccup standing by the top of the stairs. He was leaning against the wall, arms crossed over his chest and his prosthetic foot crossed over his flesh one. His auburn hair seemed messier than usual and he looked like he hadn't slept in days. Hiccup relaxed and walked across the room, sitting on my bed. He looked at me emerald eyes to sapphire. "How do you feel?"

"Like Lout took me for a wild ride than I got stomped on by Meatlug."

"Where does it hurt most?"

"My head for the most part but my right leg hurts just a little but more." I looked down the bed at my legs, which were hidden by the blanket. I started to throw off the blanket.

Hiccup grabbed my arm. "Where do you think you're going, Rana?"

"I just want to walk around for a bit." I answered, trying to pull Hiccup's hand off my arm. "Let go." I said firmly.

Hiccup shook his head. "Can't. Dad put me in charge and told me that under no circumstance are you allowed outta bed till he comes home."

"Why's that?" I questioned, narrowing my eyes.

I knew I had Hiccup trapped with the question when his eyes widened slightly, his grip on my arm slackened and he refused to look me in the eye. He rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "Well, you see, Rana, uh..."

"Just spit it out, Hic!" I exclaimed, throwing my arms in the air.

Hiccup sighed and looked me straight in the eyes. "Ran," he started. "That rockslide caused a lot of damage to you." I raised an eyebrow in confusion. Hiccup continued. "When me and the gang finally dug you and Skalm out, I was relieved at first. Skalm had wrapped her front legs around you as well as wrapped her wings around you both to protect you. If she hasn't have done that, you could very well have died."

"But...?" I stammered.

Hiccup took a deep breath in. "But, when you landed and the rocks fell on you two, Skalm accidentally released you and the rocks fell directly on you."

"Where?" Hiccup looked away again. My eyes widened. "Hiccup, what did the rocks do to me?" Hiccup sighed and gestured at the blanket. Slowly, my eyes locked on my legs, I pulled the blanket away. My left leg was normal, but where there should have been my knee cap and foot, there was nothing. Just a stump.

"The rocks completely crushed every bone in your knee cap and foot. If it healed, you wouldn't have been able to ever walk again." Hiccup said. "Gobber had to amputate it. He's making a prosthetic now. I was actually helping until Dad called me home."

I stared at where my right leg used to be, my hands clenched tightly in fists. I shut my eyes tightly and looked away from the leg and my brother. "How long until the prosthetic is done?"

"Probably another few days."

"It's not gonna be a peg leg like everyone else is it?"

"No. I made sure you weren't going to get a peg leg. That's why Gobber and I are making the leg. It's based off of mine but knowing you, you'll add your own flair to it."

I smirked a little and looked up at Hiccup. "You sure know me well."

Hiccup grinned. "Now what kind of older brother would I be if I didn't know my own baby sister?"

"I'm only a year younger than you."

"I'm still the older one though."

I rolled my eyes but the grin didn't leave my face.

Hiccup told me his friend, Savannah, whom he had met 10 years ago (he was 5 and I was 4), and her dragon, Skylight (who bore a similar appearance to Toothless, though she wasn't a Night Fury) had been responsible for digging me and Skalm out of the rubble.

"She was amazing." Hiccup said. "She even stopped me from going down there at first and keep me from 'hurting myself' as she put it." His eyes drifted down to his prosthetic. He shook his head and looked back up at me.

I smirked. "You like her, don't you?" I asked, a devilish grin on my face.

Hiccup's cheeks flared up with a bright red blush and he began stuttering like mad. It made me laugh harder than I had since this whole thing with Skalm had started.

Unfortunately, the days following my return to consciousness were filled with self-doubt. I spent hours laying awake in bed thinking about what had happened. I was positive Skalm had crashed because I had messed up and assumed she'd healed when she really hadn't.

Both Astrid and Hiccup tried to tell me that it wasn't my fault. Hiccup assured me that he had thought Skalm had healed enough to fly just as I had.

Savannah came over at one point to talk. I thanked her for her help, but I didn't say much else.

Once Savannah had left, Dad walked in. I looked up at him once and was a little startled to see his eyes looked red and puffy, as if he'd been crying. But that was impossible. He was Stoick the Vast, a great Viking warrior. Viking warriors never cried.

"Dad?" I asked, attempting to get him to speak. "What's wrong? Have you been..." I thought about what to say. "Crying?" Better to just bluntly ask him I suppose.

Dad took a deep breath and walked closer to my bed. He sat down near me towards the end of the bed and looked at me. He sighed and nodded slowly. "Yes, Rana, I have." I was surprised he admitted it.

"Dad..." I mumbled. Dad put a huge hand on my right thigh in comfort while his other hand dried any stray tears that fell from his eyes.

Dad shook his head. "Don't worry, Rana." He started. "I was just scared I was going to lose my little girl like we almost lost your brother."

I remembered that. In the days after Hiccup and Toothless had defeated the Green Death, Hiccup hadn't been in the best shape. Before his leg had had to be amputated, he was either very sick with a fever or moaning in pain.

I spent many days taking care of him and many nights curled up as close as I could get to my brother. Most days, Astrid would come and help me take care of him. She was as worried as our father and I were.

I looked up at my dad. He, like Hiccup had, looked like he hadn't slept in days which I was pretty sure neither of them had during the time I'd been unconscious.

"Well, I'm fine, Dad." I said. "Missing a leg, but I'm fine." I forced a smile.

Dad chuckled. "Your brother is teaching you bad habits."

I snorted. "Dad, I'm 14. I don't think Hiccup can influence me anymore."

Dad chuckled. "No I suppose not." The smile dropped. "But are you sure you're alright? Leg's not sore is it?"

"A bit." I admitted. "But it's nothing I can't handle."

Dad nodded and for a moment we sat in silence, the moment rather awkward. Then Dad stood up. "Well, if you need anything-"

"I'll call you or Hiccup," I finished for my dad. "Whichever one of you can get here first."

Dad chuckled before walking down the stairs. I sat back against my headboard and looked through the skylight in our room that allowed Toothless, and soon Skalm as well, easy access to the room, and sighed, closing my eyes.

I desperately hoped I'd recover soon. Skalm needed me. And this time, I wasn't going to screw up.

How was it? I honestly tried my hardest to make Stoic sympathetic but I just couldn't picture that huge guy being fluffy at all, so I just tried to channel one of my family members into him and I hope it worked.
