~.~ Chapter Seven ~.~

"Can you tell me what was going on with that Mexican guy?"

She was sat with her knees up on one of her comfy armchairs in the corner of the room.

Jax was lounged on the sofa in front of her, he was texting on his phone but he was listening to her.

"No. It's none of your business."

"I think I can help."

With this, his eyes flickered towards her. "Well, the reason Clay told them he could get what they wanted was because you were going to help in the first place."

Evie understood this. Leases for new businesses in Charming were always being reported to the paper for some PR around whatever was opening.

She could easily get that information.

"So, that confrontation was because of me?"

Jax finished his text and shoved his phone in his pocket. "Don't fret over it, darlin'."

"I can get the information."

Evie wasn't in control of her mouth. She just wanted fix what she'd done. Solve Jax's problem. Help the club for her mistake and her debt was owed. She could easily hand over some club locations.

Jax pursed his lips, "you'd do that?"

She nodded. "Who are the Niners?"

"MC in Oakland. Black. Laroy Wayne is the name of their President."

"I'll have a look into it."

Jax nodded slowly and didn't take his off the woman. Cocking his head, he chuckled, "I don't get you. You throw a tantrum about working for me and then you just help us out."

"If that guy was riled up because of me, I want to help." She justified.

"Don't bawl your eyes out again the next time you want me to cut ya loose."

"Oh fuck you, Jackson. Get out of my house."

"I thought you were upset I didn't call?"

His smirk solidified the snap of Evelyn's nerves and she reached out to grab her remote off the coffee table and threw it towards the biker.

It collided with his face squarely and he cried out in surprise. "What the fuck!"

"Get out." Evie repeated, not even phased by her outburst or the way Jax was gripping his head in pain.

"Crazy bitch."

Jax got to his feet, unbalanced due to the aching in his head. The girl could throw! "Jesus…"

"Psycho!"

Jax laughed humourlessly and turned to face her, "I'm the psycho? You just attacked me."

Evelyn stood to her feet and threw her hands in the air, "you know what? I'm done. I don't want to help you anymore."

Jax's eyes flashed and he crossed the room in three quick strides to get in her face. "You don't get to do that."

"I can do whatever the hell I want."

She couldn't lie and say she wasn't scared – the look in Jax's eyes mirrored the way he looked earlier tonight towards the Mayan.

"I let you go once, you came running back. That's it. You're in this now. And you can cry and scream and blubber all you want."

Jax was so close to her face, he was practically breathing into her mouth. He smelled like cigarettes. As much as her instincts were telling her to back off, she was determined not to give him any more ammunition to shame her.

She was done being weak. He was right, she'd gone back to him. She had to face those consequences.

"Fine. I'll get you your stupid information."

"Yes you will," he smiled maliciously and backed away from her, heading towards the door again. "And don't worry. I'll call you all the time."

He slammed the door behind him and left Evie wondering what the hell had happened.

She was upset he hadn't called her in a week. She showed up at his clubhouse, for what? And now look where it got her. Back at Jax's throat and back in the club's pocket.

She'd literally hopped back into Jax's palm.

Like she'd expected, retrieving the information for Laroy Wayne's club was easy.

He'd went all about it legally meaning he'd sought permission for ground rights and that was passed on to the board of Charming which was passed onto the press.

The club locations weren't in Oakland and were scattered around the suburbs outside of Charming.

Evie sent a text to Jax asking him to meet her for lunch that afternoon to which he accepted.

As Evie was leaving the documentation room, she bumped into Alfie King, brand new editor of Charming Post.

"Morning, Evelyn."

"Good morning Alfie."

He was a young man, only a bit older than Evelyn. He had copper hair and green eyes and he didn't dress in a suit and tie, instead every time she'd seen him, he wore slacks and a ruffled shirt.

He peered at her hands which were holding some rough drafts of a story she'd been instructed to write about some sporting event downtown. "Those for me?"

"Not yet," she said and made to walk past him.

Alfie side stepped to block her and she looked up at him, annoyed. "Can I help you, Alfie?"

He glanced around to see the hall was empty and leaned in close. Evie stepped backward, not appreciating his invasion of her personal space.

The editor exhaled and his breath made Evie's hair fan out slightly. She had an expression of confusion and irritation on her face. "You wanna get together sometime?"

She was surprised by his invitation and disgusted at the thought of the implications, "no."

Again, she made to walk past him and he blocked her once more. "Why not?"

"Because I don't want to."

"I'm in charge of you," he told her with a cunning smile, "and your job."

"Are you serious? Have you actually gone around here, threatening the women in the office?"

Alfie was growing tired of her attitude and used his body to push the smaller woman backwards a step. Shaken by the aggressive move, Evie was silent as he spoke.

"I think you should come out with me this weekend."

Evie didn't have a chance to respond as Alfie was already turning away from her. She wasn't frightened, she'd seen enough men in her life throw their weight around. She was honestly so shocked that he'd had the audacity to do that and think he could get away with it.

Shaking her head, she went back to her office and got to work on some drafts before her lunch with Jax.

"They're not in Oakland?"

Evie shook her head and span the paper around on the table in front of her to point out the text for Jax. "It says all three clubs under the management of Laroy Wayne are located here, here and here."

The map that was provided with the documents highlighted clearly that the clubs whereabouts were a good few miles away from Oakland.

Jax leaned back in the small café chair and Evie took another forkful of her pasta. "Is that weird?"

Jax rubbed his scruff and looked back at the map, "it means they're extending territory."

"And that's bad?"

Jackson had to grin a little at the woman's curiosity. "It's not great."

She raised her eyebrows, chewing her food in thought about her encounter with her new boss earlier. She wasn't all that interested in this Niner club business.
Especially if Jax wasn't opting for telling her about it.

"Something up?" Jax could see she was distracted. He didn't know what was compelling him to ask but he did.

"My new boss is being a dick."

The biker made a face for her to continue.

Rolling her eyes, she obliged, "he just thinks he owns the place now. Controls everyone."

"He kinda does."

"I just hate guys who abuse their strength over women, you know?" She was glaring right at him and he was smart enough to tell she was talking half about her boss and half about him.

He chuckled, "how is this guy abusing his strength?"

"He threatened my job."

Their encounter had turned sour and Jax found his cue to leave. "Well then I suggest you do what he says."

"I'm not sleeping with him." Evie furrowed her brows in exasperation, "that's crazy."

Jax paused from hiking his cut on over his plaid shirt and looked at her weirdly, "who are we talking about?"

"My boss." She replied matter of factly. Her face changed into realization, "did you think I was talking about you?"

He didn't say anything, far more preoccupied with what Evie's boss was asking of her.

"Jackson, not everything is about you."

"What did your boss say to you?"

Evie stood from her seat, "I can't believe you think my whole word revolves around you."

Jax held up a hand to stop her ranting growing more impatient, "Evie, what did your boss say?"

She sighed and ran a hand through her thick hair as she piled it back on top of her head into her signature work bun. "He wants me to sleep with him this weekend."

The biker had been jealous before and knew what it felt like. His run with Tara had him running hoops with his feelings but he hadn't felt jealous in a long time.

And yet for some weird reason he had no control over, he felt jealous.

"I have to get back to work." Evie began walking towards the door after throwing some money onto the table.

Jax scooped the money up and gave it back to her as he turned to face her, "I'll talk to your boss for you."

"For me? Excuse you, I don't need you to fight my battles."

"Evelyn-"

"Jackson."

He realized this was getting nowhere and the stubborn woman was back to her sour self. Evie was becoming a thorn in his side.

"I got you what you wanted. Text me if there's anything else. That's as far as our relationship goes." She told him sternly and walked out of the small café leaving Jackson alone.

Jax watched from the window as she hastily crossed the street into the building opposite. The Charming Post headquarters was no skyline building made of glass but it was an impressive investment for the town.

The conversation had rattled him. He felt uneasy knowing Evie was being pressured into sex from her new boss. But she'd seemed so nonchalant about it.

He pondered over how much he felt he actually knew Evelyn Hart.

He knew the fierce, manipulative side of her when he'd push her buttons in school, he had also been shown the softer side of her. But he didn't know her personally, sexually, what she was into, what she liked.

He didn't even think she had any friends.

He shook his head from thoughts of Evie and climbed onto his bike and rode away from Charming Post and back to the clubhouse – he had bad news for Clay.

After work, Evie called Ruby to tell her about Alfie.

"That swine!" the redhead cried over the phone, "that's revolting."

"It's whatever."

Ruby laughed, "gonna send your boyfriend to beat him up?"

Evie's mind momentarily flashed to the memory of Jax wanting to talk to Alfie 'for her.'

"Absolutely not."

"Why not?"

"Because he's not my boyfriend."

"Yet. Tell him what your boss did. Guys love a damsel."

She recalled the memory of her being grabbed by the Mayan guy. How Jax had helped her up and defended her, but he didn't seem to enjoy it.

"Whatever," she said flippantly.

"Is Alfie King hot?"

"Not my type."

"Jesus," Ruby was finding this very amusing, "what is?"

That stupid question again, Evie thought to herself.

"What's yours?"

Ruby growled playfully into the phone, "I might have met a guy."

"What? When?"

"The other day in the supermarket. You know, odds are when you're in your twenties, your local supermarket is where you will meet the love of your life."

"Yeah, Cosmo can make up some shit. What's he look like?"

"Blonde. Rugged. Motorbike guy. So sexy."

Evie sat up from laying on her couch suddenly interested in the conversation. There was one guy that was coming to mind and she felt herself become uneasy at the thought of who it may be.

"What's his name?"

"Get this," Ruby squealed, "his name is Jackson. But he told me to call him Jax. How fucking sexy is that?"

I didn't get many reviews for the last chapter - any reason why? I will continue writing this anyway considering the long break I had and how loyal you guys are for sticking with me.

Anyway. Tell me in the reviews what your 'type' is?

Enjoy.
