The whole house was sleeping. It had been like this for a few hours, Raven had fallen asleep round one finally managing to will her head ache away, and Severus had gone down sometime before that on the sofa with his book opened on his chest. The rest of the village was asleep waiting for the sun to wake them up, the only ones who were up wandering were a few teenagers were walking to the park off Main Street to enjoy each other's company(no stop that you perv) and maybe a few beers. But the sleep didn't last long, Raven stirred her head pounding, her chest tight, her eyes strangely focused, and Raven made her way to the kitchen to get some pain pills. She was careful on the bare wooden stairs not wanting to catch herself on an upturned nail or find a creaky board that could wake her guardian, said man was sleeping on the sofa legs crossed one arm folded under his head the other holding a book to his chest. Severus looked calm, he wasn't scowling, he looked so relaxed.
Raven fumbled with the child proof bottle top, her hands were sore and lazy not wanting to listen to Raven's will. Once that was sorted out Raven eat the small white capsules she was going to go back up stairs but stopped in front of the bay window, the window looked out to the play fort in the backyard a parents ideal. But Raven wasn't looking out to the fort she was almost too old for, or the gigantic black walnut tree, no she was staring at her reflection in the blackness. She looked like a ghost. Raven touched her face watching the ghostly girl do the same, that was her reflection it was no specter or light trick. Raven ran from the kitchen to the half bath in the home office, it was a tiny bathroom made even smaller by the almost unusable shower that took up the whole upper left corner of the tiny room, Raven flicked on the vanity lights blinding herself for a moment. It was worse that she thought. Raven's skin was sickly white like she's never been in direct sun light, her once teal eyes were now an unnatural and piercing Mauveine purple, and her ears, Christ they were folded down and flared out two inches from her head in such a way that they poked out from her hair. Raven covered her mouth to muffle the shocked gasp that shattered the houses silence, that did not work and the gasp was more like a shriek that woke Severus who bolted up from the sofa.
Severus ran from the living room to the half bath like a bat out of hell and threw the old oak door open to see what was wrong. "Raven, what-" he stopped seeing why Raven was so upset, Severus took a deep breath his hand coming up to cover his mouth it was too late to deal with these things. "Raven, I- I should have-" "what am I?" Raven reached up to her now elven ears only to now notice that her hands were now longer and more narrow than before. "Ah, I think you should sit down." The two left the tiny half bath and Raven sat down on the window seat, Severus pulled the office chair over so that the two could be closer. "What exactly do you want to know?" Raven thought for a minute shaking of the last bits of sleep that clouded her mind. "How am I different from normal people?" "I am not positive but I do know that half Veela tend to be pale, the women are tall, ones of eastern decent have sloped ears but all have long pointed ears, and as I said earlier you can expect to grow wings." Raven let that sink in her mind organizing the new information and let it adjust so that she could form more questions. "Why was I normal before?" "Raven you weren't normal before, you were born like this. This is what you were meant to look like, what you were before was just a measure the ministry took so that you would blend in to a muggle community." "And how did they do that?" "You should remember soon." "What?" "Raven what is your earliest memory?" "Our vacation to see Aunt Mary in England." Raven stopped drawing out that last word Asa something hit her, was that really why they went to England? Was there even an Aunt Mary? Did any of that trip happen? "Why was I there?" "Raven you were telling people, telling them about magic, about living with people other than your parents, the ministry saw this as a risk so they. . . hid those memories."
Raven started to cry she felt an ocean of old memories fall under scrutiny and a few new ones pop into existence, her head hurt. Severus magicked a cold rag into existence and gave it to Raven who pressed the cool cloth to her hot eyes. "And- and the. . . changing?" "They didn't want you scaring yourself." Raven felt her mind open, whatever was holding those old memories back broke and they hit her like a fat dog falling from a plane. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
