Hello Everyone, I'm finally back with a new chapter. I'm sorry it took so long. I kind of lost my motivation to write after my boyfriend told me he didn't like the story (I thought as my boyfriend he was supposed to like all my stories). But anyway, I remembered all my awesome reviewers and how they liked the story even though I was a stranger to them and so I finally found the motivation to start writing again. Thank you so much for reading and please keep reviewing!

Chapter 7

A Summoner's magic manifests through the gate keys of the celestial spirits but otherwise, while it remains within the body of the summoner the magic remains in an undifferentiated form of pure energy. Given the nature of the summoner's magic, they are able perform some basic spells. While not as strong as mages who specialize in that particular magic, a skilled summoner would be able to manipulate his or her magic into a different form of their desire. Elements are a particular favourite for summoners. Elements we observe in Earthland are manifestations of the free magic in the atmosphere and thus, it is the easiest for Summoners to manipulate their magic into elements.

Lucy read from one of her set of newly pilfered books from Doram Vita, using her Ultra Super Hurricane Force Glasses (Patented). It was night time and Lucy had finished both training (physical and magical) and her chores. They were running low on supplies and Lucy would have to go down to Pomodo to get some tomorrow. She wanted to arrange to have someone deliver the supplies regularly but her practice battles with Nadea-sama had become increasingly violent lately and so she had told Birk that she had made friends with the Old lady living in the cottage and wanted to be the one to deliver supplies every month.

Summoning was totally different now with her own gate open. It almost became ridiculously easy to keep her spirits out and they were a lot stronger now as well. She could keep Sirius and Plue's gate open for like… well she wasn't really sure since she never tested it out but it was definitely more than a month, maybe two or closer to three. The golden gate keys still took a lot more magic and she could only keep Loke out for a week if he didn't use any magic. If he used magic though it was a different story. Opening her own gate gave her spirits full access to their powers but any attacks they used drained a proportionate amount of magic from her. It was also different opening gates simultaneously. The amount of magic required wasn't proportionate, it increased exponentially. It took more than twice the magic to summon 2 spirits at a time and more than thrice to open 3. So she could keep 2 gates open in battle for like 5 hours maybe and 3 for 2 hour and all 10 for like 30 minutes but it took an insane amount of concentration.

For the past couple of months Lucy had mostly participated in a lot of practice battles with Nadea-sama to hone her skills in fighting with her spirits and using their combination attacks. Combination attacks were special moves that could only be performed by 2 or more spirits working together. With 10 of the 12 golden gate keys, there were a lot of combinations for Lucy to attempt. But her favourite so far was hellfire by the spirits of the flame element.

According to Nadea-sama, they would be moving to learning basic spells to augment and support her spirits in battle and provide some self defense if her keys were unavailable which was why she was currently reading this book.

A very important set of spells for the Summoner are support and protective spells. Majority of the celestial keys are attack type with the exception of the Golden Shield of Sobeiski. Thus it is necessary for the Summoner to have some means of defense in battle should their spirits be unable to do so. Skilled summoners can even extend their protective spells to support their spirits in battle.

Lucy's lips parted in a great yawn, weariness overtaking her. Setting down the book after marking her spot, Lucy headed to the bathroom to wash up for the night before calling it a night.

The next morning, Lucy made her way down the mountain to Pomodo. She summoned Plue and Sirius to keep her company on the long trek down. Within a couple of hours of walking she arrived at the now familiar village gates. The guard posted observed her approach and waved an enthusiastic greeting before running off to inform Birk. As usual, Lucy was swarmed by the villagers offering their greetings, well wishes, blessings and the occasional gift of produce within seconds of stepping into the village. Lucy, used to the affection by now, accepted the words with grace but refused all gifts.

"Lady Summoner! Gracious one! You have returned. We are blessed by your presence." Birk announced his arrival with his usual obeisance.

Lucy smiled at the village chief, "I have returned to purchase some supplies and to visit Nadea-sama in the mountains."

"Only the best for you, Brightness. Please help yourself to anything you desire." Birk replied.

"Lady Lucy! Lady Lucy!" One of the village children, Sofya tugged on her pants.

Lucy squatted down and smiled at the adorable little girl, "Yes Sofya?"

"Can we play with Plue and Sirius?" The little girl asked, big brown eyes shining.

"Of course! Is there anyone else you guys wanna see?" Lucy asked.

Sofya ran off to where the other kids were and they discussed for a bit in excited whisper shouts before Sofya ran back to Lucy. "We would like to see Aries-sama please!"

"Alright," Lucy replied, ruffling Sofya's hair and standing up. Summoning Aries' key, she summoned the beautiful Ram spirit.

"H-hello Lucy. What can I do for you today?" The bashful spirit asked her master.

The children let out an excited squeal of delight as they ran up to Aries.

"Keep them company while I get some supplies kay?" Lucy told her spirit.

Aries, who was now already holding up Sofya in her arms smiled and nodded at Lucy.

"Plue, Sirius, stay with them too okay. Come to me if there is any trouble." Lucy addressed her 2 canine spirits.

"Pun puuun~" Plue replied from atop Sirius' back where 2 other children have joined him.

Lucy left the children to their fun and headed to the market place. Calling out another gold key, Lucy summoned Virgo to help her with the supplies and for some company.

Entering the small square that served as the market place in Pomodo, the villagers immediately began calling out to her.

"Lady summoner! Over here! I have the best wheat you can find in this village."

"Please accept this cheese your grace!"

"Beautiful jewellery for a beautiful summoner!"

Lucy could never decide who to buy from. All the villagers offered the lowest prices (or even free of charge) and they were all of excellent quality. After all which villager would dare sell the master of their gods inferior goods? So she established a practice of buying a bit from everyone so all the sellers would feel "honoured".

"Good morning Claus," Lucy greeted, "A sack of potatoes please."

"No problem Lady summoner!" The store man replied enthusiastically, disappearing under the booth for a moment before emerging with a gigantic sack of potatoes. "Here you go Brightness! My best lot of potatoes. Every single one of them perfectly brown and large than my first here."

Lucy mentally facepalmed at the size of the sack. There was probably enough potatoes to last for the entire month for both Nadea-sama and herself... if they ate potatoes every single day for breakfast, lunch and supper. "Uhm do you have a smaller sack?"

The man visibly deflated and Lucy felt guilty. "Sure Lady summoner. Here I'll just bet my best 20 for you then."

20 was still a bit excessive but she didn't want to disappoint the man again so Lucy reached for her money bag to pay for the potatoes. Speaking of her money bag, it was getting a bit light. Lucy sighed, it seemed like she would forever be plagued by financial woes. The past months training with Nadea-sama had really diminished her savings. She probably only enough left for 2 or 3 more supply runs and there was no way she was going ask for money from her mentor.

'Guess I'll have to go find some job requests to do." Lucy thought to herself while thanking Claus and handing him the payment for it despite his violent protests.

The process was pretty much repeated throughout her entire shopping trip and she ended up once again with way more supplies than necessary.

She was just going to head back to find the children when Plue came running up to her, tears streaming down his face.

Lucy's heart skipped she immediately dropped all her supplies when she saw Plue's dishevelled state. "Plue! What's wrong?! Where is Sirius and Aries?!"

"Pun pun pun puun!" The little spirit cried unintelligibly gesturing wildly with his tiny limbs.

"Virgo!" Lucy called out to her other spirit while scooping Plue into her arms and began to run in the direction Plue indicated with the pink haired spirit close behind.

Within a minute Lucy could hear screams and crying. Feeling panic grip her heart, Lucy speed up, desperate to get to the children in time.

"Shit! What the hell is that?!" Lucy cursed when she finally made it to the scene.

What appeared to be an inky black golem the size of an elephant was swinging a fallen tree around causing general destruction. It seemed like it was trying to hit something which Lucy realised what Sirius. His coat was so covered in mud and gore that hardly any white could be seen. Aries was standing in front of a pink wooly dome firing shots at the golem, but the naturally soft nature of her ammunition wasn't really helping.

The children must be in the dome, Lucy thought as she dashed forward to help her spirits. "Virgo, attack! Immobolise him."

The maiden disappeared into the ground and moments later the golem sank waist deep into the ground.

Sirius ran up to Lucy, shivering in exhaustion. Lucy kneeled down and grabbed the spirits face between her hands gently. "Good job Sirius. Go back for now and rest."

The spirit dissolved into golden light and Lucy stood back up, turning to look at Aries instead.

"S-sorry Lucy. I couldn't stop it." Aries apologised, looking pretty roughed up herself.

"S'okay Aries. You did good protecting the children. Now I need you to get them out of here. Can you do that?" Lucy told her spirit. Aries nodded firmly in reply.

"Good. Go back to the spirit world and rest when you get them to safety."

The golem let out a deafening roar and a sickening crunch could be heard as the golem's weapon made contact with Virgo. Without the pinkette impeding his movements, the monster lurched towards Lucy and Aries instead, intent on reaching the children.

"Go get out of here!"

With a great swing, the golem brought the tree smashing down on them. Lucy stood protectively in front of Aries and the woollen dome, holding her arms crossed, a silver key materialising in her right hand.

"Scutum!"

There was a bone jarring thud as the tree collided with the golden shield that materialised in front of Lucy just in the nick of time.

"Go! Now!" Lucy urged Aries and the Ram spirit took off immediately, converting her protective dome into a sphere so she could roll it along.

The golem roared; agitated that its target was getting away. However, it could not pursue as the golden shield blocked his every attempt.

Lucy kept up defense for a while to give Aries sufficient time to get away. Virgo had been forced back into the Spirit World due to the severity of her injury. Judging that she had given Aries enough time to get away, Lucy summoned 2 golden keys to her hand.

"Open! The Gate of the Lion, the Gate of the Goat. Leo! Capricorn!"

"Loke! Caprico! Let's go. We're taking this ugly monster down." Lucy yelled, pointing dramatically at the inky black golem.

Her two loyal spirits nodded in reply and immediately launched their attacks. Lucy dismissed Scutum and whipped out her Flueve d'Etoiles, looking for an opening.

The golem swung his makeshift weapon in a downward arc, aiming to crush Loke but the Lion spirit leapt out of the way agilely, landing a top the tree trunk. He ran up the trunk and leapt high, fist shining with the golden light of Regulus.

"Assault of the Lion!"

Loke's body glowed with the golden light of Regulus and his speed increased tenfold, dealing 12 successive strikes to the upper torso of the golem. The golem roared again but other than a few chips, the attack didn't seem to do much damage.

Meanwhile Caprico launched a barraged of kicks and punches against the legs of the golem, strengthened with the power of his star Dened Algiedi. However, like Loke, it didn't seem to do much damage.

Lucy gritted her teeth in frustration as the attacks of her Spirits bounced ineffectively off the harden shell of the golem. Even their new and more powerful attacks were useless against it. Lucy felt the golden presence that was Aries in her mind fade as the spirit returned to the celestial realm.

"Loke, Caprico!" Lucy signalled her spirits to prepare their combination attack now that she could concentrate properly with only the two golden gates open.

Raising her arms with Leo and Capricorn's key in one hand each. Lucy chanted "Awaken, the wrath of earth's deepest pits. Boiling Earth!".

Caprico pulled his right arm back and mustered his strength and punched the ground "Dened Algiedi, Terra Shatter!". The force caused a ridge of broken earth to form shooting straight at the golem and shattered the ground beneath the golem, sending it plummeting into an abyss.

Loke leapt high into the air and held his hands out in front of him, palms directed at the newly formed abyss. "Regulus. Magma Burst!". A thin golden beam shot from his hands straight into the crater and moments later the ground erupted in a huge explosion, lava and huge chunks of earth bursting from the crater, sending the golem sky high, burning, before crashing back down into the giant crater. The force of the impact caused the golem to shatter into several pieces ending its existence.

All three panted in exertion as the dust settled around them. Lucy sighed in relief as the golem didn't seem to be getting back up. "Great job guys!" Lucy cheered, gracing her spirits with a huge smile and double thumbs up.

Caprico smiled and nodded at her and Loke grinned charmingly before dissolving in golden light, knowing that their mistress was running out of magical power. Lucy swayed slightly on her feet as a wave of fatigue washed over her.

"Lady summoner! Are you alright?!" The rush of footsteps could be heard and villagers ran up the blond summoner.

"Eh?" Lucy managed to squeak before being swamped by the concerned villagers.

"Lady summoner! Are you okay?!"

"That was really cool!"

"Thank you so much for saving the children!"

"His Holy Greatness be blessed! No one was harmed!"

Lucy let herself be guided back to the village, having no strength to resist. She was seated and wrapped in a thick blanket, served tea, checked thrice over for any injuries and basically fawned upon in general.

After an hour or so, Lucy realised it was getting dark and she still had to get back to Nadea's cottage in the mountains. Excusing herself, she retrieved her dropped supplies and made her way back up the mountain. By the time Nadea's cottage came in sight, Lucy was close to collapsing in exhaustion.

"I'm back." Lucy muttered softly when she entered the cottage.

"Where have you-" Nadea began but stopped when she saw the Lucy's exhausted state. "What happen?"

"Something attacked the village children, I barely managed to take it down with Loke and Caprico's help." Lucy replied, "Sirius, Virgo and Aries took a lot of damage… I should check on them." Lucy reached for Loke's key so she could ask him how the others were doing but Nadea-sama stopped her.

"You can check tomorrow. Get some sleep now, you look like death."

Lucy nodded in reply and headed to the bathroom to wash up before going to sleep.
