Your Last Day

Chapter 7

"Hughes! What are you doing here?" Mustang asked, still in complete shock and horror at his friend's sudden appearance.

Hughes slammed the side of his fist in the wall. "You knew someone was out to kill him and you sent him up on that stage to get killed?" He sneered angrily, eyes dark with rage.

Mustang gripped the sink in front of him and looked back at the mirror to see his dark eyes staring back at him. 'Damn. Damn. Damn. Not good. What now? Why do you have to do this, Hughes?'

"I thought you said you would always protect those below you! What? Did Ed not count because you didn't like him?" Hughes growled, taking a few steps farther into the bathroom. "Offing him just got him out of your hair."

Mustang's dark eyes narrowed dangerously. Off Fullmetal? Did Hughes just accuse him of killing one of his men to get him out of his hair? How could Hughes? After everything they went through in the war, he dared to suggest something like that!

The sound of glass shattering met two pair of shocked eyes. The sight of Mustang pulling his bloody hand out of a broken mirror met two pairs of surprised eyes. But the real fear was when Mustang turned to Havoc and Hughes with such anger in his eyes that it was hard to tell that he was the same man.

"Do not," Mustang hissed. "Ever accuse me of killing one of my men for my own benefit."

"I don't have to." Hughes snapped, too blinded by his anger to think clearly. "You already admitted that you had him die for a reason."

Havoc eyed his superiors warily. They both looked so furious right now. This was not a good time for them to talk about this. Or really the ideal place for such a conversation either.

"He was your subordinate and you sent him to die for your own reasons! A child sent to death by his boss who he trusted so much. A child being killed in Ishval is what started that war. Are you trying to start another one by killing the most famous kid in our country?" Hughes snarled.

"War?" Mustang growled. "War! I took part in the Ishvalan Massacre. I know that horror and you dare suggest that I would want to start another one? And by killing another child?"

"Well, why not?" Hughes asked heatedly, stalking over to Mustang. "Hero of Ishval? Why not get more hero titles to get more promotions just so you can rise the ranks faster to get what you truly want? To be Fuhrer! Who cares who dies along the way!"

Mustang's eyes flashed dangerously. His frown set into a firm line and he took a step closer to Hughes. "I told you at the end of that war. I will protect those below me."

"And I believed you!" Hughes roared. "I believed you when you said that to me. My first mistake!"

Havoc looked at his superiors worriedly when he saw them nose to nose, yelling at each other. If it was Ed and Mustang, it wouldn't be as shocking, though Mustang never got this worked up when fighting with Ed. But it would still be easier to believe then seeing that it was Hughes fighting with Mustang. He stepped up closer to his superiors and tried to push them apart. "I know you probably don't want to hear this, sirs, but I really think you both need to calm down and try to talk rationally about this."

"Stay out of this, Second Lieutenant." Mustang snapped at him.

The Lieutenant stepped back with a frown. Was that an order he could ignore since he really should intervene in this? He really shouldn't let his superiors argue like this, especially after what just happened in the office with them. But orders were orders. Could he really disobey them? Damn, why couldn't Hawkeye or someone else be here to deal with this?

"I didn't lie back them." Mustang said.

"Then why did you let Ed get killed? Tell me that, Roy!" Hughes asked.

Mustang frowned and looked away from his friend. He did want to tell Hughes, but he didn't want to get his friend involved in this. That wouldn't matter to Hughes. The moment Hughes knew, he would want to be involved to help, but Mustang just didn't want to drag any more friends into this operation. Hawkeye and Ed were already at huge risk. Anyone who knew the truth about Ed being alive was in a lot of danger. Enough danger was being spread. Mustang just couldn't drag Hughes into it because that would put his family at risk if it was found out he knew the truth. He couldn't do that. It was bad enough putting Al through this, but he could at least defend himself if something happened. Gracia and Elicia can't.

"Damn it, Roy!" Hughes shouted, grabbing his friend by his jacket and pulling him around to look in him in the face. "Just tell me. What justification is there for sending a child to die?"

"Hughes," Mustang said, grabbing Hughes's wrist to pull it off his jacket. "Elicia Hughes is your daughter and responsibility. Edward Elric was my charge, not yours. Focus on the kid that is yours."

Hughes bowed his head as he gripped Mustang's jacket more tightly. "Elicia is always a focus of mine. But obviously," He hissed, raising his dark, furious eyes to Mustang. "I should have taken Ed under my wing a long time ago. I should have seen how little you cared for that kid."

Mustang snarled. "Do not start with that, Hughes. I cared for Fullmetal."

"You dragged that kid into the military at twelve. How the hell is that caring?" Hughes shouted before throwing a fist into Mustang's face.

Mustang reeled back in shock, slamming into the sink.

Havoc stared in shock. "Colonel!"

"Well, I see you're still pissed." Mustang said, wiping blood off his chin. He stared at the blood on his hand for a moment before pushing himself off the sink he slammed into and threw a fist at Hughes. His fist made contact with Hughes's chest, which sent the Lieutenant Colonel stumbling back a few steps and then into the door of a bathroom stall when Mustang kicked him in the stomach.

Havoc blinked in shocked. Did Mustang just retaliate? Retaliate against Hughes?

Hughes pushed himself up off the floor and lunged at Mustang. He grabbed his wrist and punched him in the stomach.

This was not right at all. Arguing? Yeah, Havoc could see that. Yelling at each other? Slightly harder to see. But fist fighting? That was not even plausible between these two! And in the bathroom at Central Command Center as well! None of this was right. None of it! The world was going out of whack because of Edward Elric's death and he wasn't even dead for real yet!

Mustang grabbed Hughes's shirt and twisted the two of them around at his will to slam Hughes into one of the mirrors. He slammed a fist into Hughes's face.

"Colonel! Lieutenant Colonel!" Havoc shouted. "You can't fight like this!" He tried to pull Mustang off of Hughes, but just got punched for his troubles. Havoc stumbled back, grabbing his cheek. Seriously, now. This was too out of hand. He should have intervened much sooner than this, screw those consequences. It would have been much better than dealing with two furious and upset superiors fighting. Stupid, out of whack world. He was going to have to yell at Ed later for this. This was obviously his fault.

*Fuhrer's Office*

"Two of my best men, of such high ranks, fighting it out in the bathroom like a couple of high schoolers." Bradley said angrily, glaring at Mustang and Hughes, who were both bruised and bandaged because of their fight. They both stood in front of Bradley's desk, standing at attention.

"Sorry, sir." Mustang and Hughes chorused.

Bradley turned to look out his window with a frown. One of his State Alchemists, who was a prized sacrifice, gets killed and then two of his soldiers fight it out in the bathroom. He knew tensions were high, but this was ridiculous. "The past few days have been hard for everyone but that is no excuse for such behavior."

Hughes looked over at Mustang subtly with a scowl. He had gone to that bathroom earlier because it was the closest to Mustang's office and he guessed he would have gone there to clean up. He went there to talk to his friend about Ed since he had cooled his head, but then he heard Mustang when he got there. His friend sent Ed to death and it just angered Hughes so much. He lost himself in his rage, which was something he never did, and then he punched his friend again which initiated the whole fight. He didn't feel pleased about it at all, but he wouldn't deny that punching Mustang relieved him of some of his frustration.

"You should be punished for such disrespectful and unruly behavior, but under the circumstances, I will let it slide with a warning, but do not let this happen again." Bradley said harshly as he turned back to the two.

"Yes sir." Hughes and Mustang said.

The Fuhrer nodded and looked at Mustang. "Colonel Mustang, you're dismissed." He turned his attention to Hughes. "Lieutenant Colonel Hughes, stay behind. There is something I want to discuss with you."

"Yes sir." Hughes said.

Mustang frowned, but saluted his leader before turning around. As he turned, he tried to catch Hughes's eye, but his friend completely ignored him.

When the door closed behind Mustang, Bradley looked back at Hughes. "As you know, Fullmetal was one of the country's most prized State Alchemists. He did a lot for the people of the country and his military, but that made him a lot of enemies. Any one of them could have been his murderer. We cannot let the murder of Lieutenant Colonel Elric go. You are the leader of one of the best investigation squads, Lieutenant Colonel. I am putting you in charge of finding the culprit behind this atrocity."

Hughes snapped a salute to Bradley. "I would be honored to, sir."

If Mustang wouldn't do it, then Hughes would.

*Hallway*

Mustang leaned against the wall outside of the Fuhrer's office with the hope that Hughes wouldn't be in there long. He wasn't sure how much good it would do, but he really did want to talk to Hughes. So much went wrong with their conversation earlier because of their anger taking over. He wasn't sure how willing Hughes was to talk to him at this moment, but Mustang had to try. Hughes was his best friend. He couldn't leave here knowing that he was mad at him without trying to fix it.

When he heard a door opening, Mustang looked up, only to scowl and look back out the window by him when he saw it was just the Fuhrer's secretary. He said that right now they were in the hardest part of the operation because they had to wait for Intel, but now he had to add in the fact that Hughes was furious at him for letting Ed die. He expected it from Al, but not Hughes. This wasn't right.

He looked back at the door when he heard it open again. He pushed off the wall when he saw it was his friend. "Hughes." Mustang said, walking over to him.

"What are you doing here?" Hughes asked coldly, shocking Mustang.

"I wanted to talk to you about our fight earlier, Hughes." Mustang said.

"There's nothing to discuss. I apologize for losing myself in my rage and fighting you, but that is all." Hughes told him. "Now, if you don't mind, I have work to do."

Mustang stared at Hughes as he started walking down the hall. Did his friend just dismiss him completely?

"I was mistaken earlier." Hughes said lowly as he stopped. He looked over his shoulder, a shadowed, but determined rage in his eyes. "My first mistake wasn't believing what you said. It was becoming your friend."

Mustang stared at his friend's retreating back, feeling his heart clench in pain. What was Hughes saying there? Was he ending their friendship because of all of this? He didn't want to lose his friend, not like this. He wanted to call Hughes back to tell him the truth to keep his friend on his side, but he restrained himself just in time. If he told Hughes, he would be putting him and his family in jeopardy for the mission, and Mustang just couldn't do that to another friend, no matter how much it hurt to watch him walk away.

At least the last time they got into a fight they were on the same side. Their fight at the academy against those bullies. They were reprimanded and punished together, but this time, instead of it being the bullies walking away from him in shame and embarrassment about being beat by two cadets against their large group while he and Hughes smirked, it was Hughes walking away from him. And there was nothing amusing about it.

Turning around, Mustang clenched his hands into fists. He took a deep breath to relax himself before he walked calmly back to his office.

*Four o'clock*

Standing outside of Central Command Center, Ed looked up at it with a frown. Mustang told him to come here, but he was dead now so how exactly was he supposed to walk in there to meet his "cousin?"

Ed ran a hand through his now short hair sadly. He missed his long hair already, not that Tara did a bad job on his hair. She did amazingly, but he just preferred his hair long. She had dyed it a dark black similar, if not maybe a bit lighter, than Mustang's. Then she had cut it short, but not too short. She left it long enough so he could spike it. He never thought about spiking it, but the girls suggested it since they knew what a punk he was. He couldn't help but smirk when he remembered that.

He was dressed in black cargo pants with black and blue tennis shoes on his feet. The upper part of his body was covered in black gloves, a short sleeve dark red shirt, and a jacket with white sleeves and hood with the rest being black. Under his shirt were his military tags that he forgot to return yesterday. Resting on his left wrist was a simple chain bracelet that Kristina gave him. Hiding his golden eyes was a pair of sunglasses with a black frame and blue mirrored lenses that reflected everything while keeping his eyes hidden.

"Hey kid, what are you doing out here?"

Ed jumped and looked over at the Lieutenant that had called out to him. He frowned a bit when he recognized him as Lieutenant Skylak. He worked with Mustang and came to Central with him. Did he really have to be the first soldier that Ed ran into? He was a pretty smart and observant guy.

Ed coughed and made his voice softer than usual, but still pretty rough so as not to ruin his image. "I'm looking for my cousin. I decided to give him a surprise visit since we haven't seen each other in so long."

Skylak frowned at him for a moment before sighing. "Is he a soldier?"

Ed nodded. "Yes, a Colonel Roy Mustang? Do you know him? I'm Blake Mustang, by the way." He said without stuttering. As much as he hated to admit it, having the girls make him rehearse saying that really did help.

The green eyed Lieutenant raised a brow. "He is your cousin?" He asked suspiciously.

"Yes sir." Ed replied calmly.

Skylak stared at him as if assessing him, but without seeing his eyes that was a bit difficult for him to do properly.

"I should have called first right?" Ed asked, frowning as he turned back to the building. "Security is tighter here than I thought."

"I work with Colonel Mustang and I never once heard him mention a cousin." Skylak told him.

Ed swallowed a bit nervously. He knew Mustang didn't have a cousin so of course he would never mention one. But seriously, he couldn't have set him up with his soldiers a bit? "That's a bit hurtful. He's my favorite cousin too."

"Really?"

Ed looked at him with a wry grin. "Well, that's pretty easy for him to accomplish since he is my only cousin."

"Hmm, how old are you?" Skylak asked suspiciously.

Ed looked up at him, ready to shout his age when he froze. He was fourteen, but he looked nothing like a fourteen year old because, and he admitted this to himself grudgingly, of his height. He needed a good age that he could pass for. "Eleven!" He blurted out before he could stop himself.

"Eleven?" Skylak said shocked. He knew the kid looked young, but he learned not to judge by that since he met Ed. Skylak frowned at that thought. Thinking of Ed still hurt too much. "You're pretty young to be here alone. Where are your parents?"

Oh, come on! This dude!

"That's pretty personal." Ed replied. "Can I just see my cousin?"

"I guess. I doubt an eleven year will cause much trouble." Skylak replied and he motioned for Ed to follow him inside. "You'll have to sign in as a visitor and then I'll take you to meet Colonel Mustang."

"Thanks." Ed said, shoving his hands in his pockets as he followed after the soldier. He sighed in relief when they entered the building. Skylak really did ask too many questions. Sometimes Ed believed he belonged in the investigations department.

Skylak glanced at Ed out of the corner of his eyes as they walked down the hall. This kid was seriously the Colonel's cousin? The Colonel seemed to be a respectable, well-mannered person. This kid looked like a punk. Were they really raised that differently?

Ed looked at Skylak out of the corner of his eyes with a frown. Did he really have to keep looking at him as if he did something wrong? He was only walking by him! It had to be because of that hair that he was getting weird looks.

When they reached the office, Skylak walked in before stepping to the side and motioning for Ed to enter as well.

Ed started to walk in, but froze in the doorway for two reasons. The first was the suffocating, somber air of the room. Everyone look so sad and depressed as they worked. He has never come back to HQ to see his comrades looking like this. And the second reason was sitting at the head desk of the room. Mustang was sitting there, working. Firstly, he was working? And secondly, he had bruises on his face and neck and his hand and cheek were bandaged. What the hell? He was fine yesterday!

"You coming in?" Skylak asked.

Snapping awake, Ed walked into the room, dragging quite a few pairs of eyes to him. Without really paying attention, Ed pushed his sunglasses up a bit more and walked over to the desk. "When I came to visit, I wasn't expecting to find you all black and blue. Did you lose a fight with a door?"

Mustang's eyes snapped up from his work to look at the black haired boy in front of him. "Blake." He said as he rose to his feet. As Ed stopped in front of his desk, Roy smirked at him. "It's been a while. Doesn't your favorite cousin get a hug?"

Ed's brow twitched a bit. He was…this jerk. Forcing a smile on his face, Ed walked around the desk and hugged his boss around the waist. "I hate you." Ed muttered quietly to him. "Also, I made myself eleven years old, Colonel."

Mustang laughed and ruffled Ed's hair. "You look much more like a punk than I remember." He pulled away from Ed and looked down at him. "But what are you doing here? You're supposed to be south with your parents."

"Yeah, well, things happen." Ed said lowly. He smiled up at him. "I thought I would come for a visit. I missed you, Roy." His brow twitched a bit.

"And you can't even be bothered to show me your eyes." Mustang tsked and reached to take Ed's sunglasses off when Ed reeled back in shock and pushed his sunglasses up again. What the hell was Mustang doing?

"I was wondering why you didn't take those off when we came inside." Skylak said.

Ed shot him a look.

"So he really is your cousin?" Skylak asked Mustang. "I was having doubts when I saw him loitering outside."

Mustang laughed and sat back down at his desk. "Yeah, we're cousins." He looked at Ed. "Stop hiding your eyes from me, Blake."

"Ah, Roy!" Ed shouted, smacking Mustang's hand away, but Mustang grabbed his wrist and twisted him around to push his back into the desk so the soldiers only saw his back. Mustang pushed his sunglasses up to his hair and looked into Ed's shocked golden orbs.

Mustang gently brushed his fingers around Ed's eyes with a soft smile on his bruised face while Ed only stayed in spot and let him do it because of shock.

"I think Hughes knocked a few screws loose." Havoc muttered in shock to the other soldiers as they watched their boss be so gentle with his cousin.

Skylak nodded in agreement. "I guess it really does depend on the kid."

"What do you mean?" Fuery asked softly.

"His interactions with Lieutenant Colonel Elric were never gentle like this." Skylak muttered.

"They're family so it might be normal for them." Breda suggested.

'Oh, if only they knew the truth.' Havoc thought amused. But at least the shock of watching this broke the somber mood a bit.

Havoc coughed, which snapped Mustang out of whatever he was doing.

"Sorry, I know you have photophobia. I just wanted to see your eyes one more time." Mustang said as he pulled Ed's sunglasses back down over his eyes.

"Photophobia?" Fuery asked.

Ed pushed his sunglasses up again.

"You guys really have nothing better to do?" Mustang asked dryly.

Ed bowed his head and smirked. They never did. They were always amused to watch Mustang. It was apparently a lot more fun than actually working. But at least the tense atmosphere died down a bit. "It just means the light hurts my eyes a lot so I always wear sunglasses." Ed explained, looking over his shoulder at them with a smile. "Roy knows that but he feels the need to remove my sunglasses at least once whenever we see each other."

"If I don't, I'll never get to see your full face." Mustang replied, leaning his face in his hand as he looked at Ed. "I never thought you would come visit me at work, Blake. You were always so against it."

Ed shrugged and looked at the window with a frown.

"Well, if you're here, you can at least meet my men." Mustang said.

"Huh?" Ed mumbled, looking back at Mustang in confusion for a second before realizing it. He wanted to solidify the fact that Ed really didn't know any of these guys. "Uh, okay." He turned to the soldiers. "I guess I'll say I'm Blake Mustang, Roy's cousin. And you guys are?"

"Sergeant Major Kain Fuery."

"Warrant Officer Vato Falman."

"Warrant Officer Spence Walkers."

"Second Lieutenant Jean Havoc."

"Second Lieutenant Heymans Breda."

"Second Lieutenant James Skylak."

"Second Lieutenant Levi Jackson."

Ed nodded to them. "It's nice to meet you all." He turned back to Mustang. "Roy, seriously, what happened to your face?"

"It's nothing, Blake." Mustang replied.

Ed's eyes narrowed. "That's not nothing! You look like you got in a fight!"

Mustang's eyes narrowed. "Blake," He said warningly. "It's nothing for you to worry about."

"But–"

"No. You're just a kid." Mustang replied softly. "You don't need to worry about this."

"Where was that attitude with Chief?" Breda said sadly.

Mustang tensed while Ed forced himself to stay calm and relaxed. He was no longer Chief. He had no idea who Chief was when they said Chief. He had to remember that or he would blow his cover.

"Blake and Fullmetal are different." Mustang growled.

"How so?" Walkers asked. "He looks like a punk like Lieutenant Colonel Elric was."

Mustang looked at his cousin and smiled. "Blake doesn't fight or do alchemy."

"Really? I would have thought since you two were cousins that you might have taught him a little bit." Breda said, smirking a bit.

"Too bad Blake doesn't have an interest in science and since he constantly gets migraines, his parents don't really let him do anything strenuous so fighting is out." Mustang said.

Ed scowled at the window. No wonder Mustang never told him his backstory. He was inventing one himself to tell people so Ed couldn't protest it or try to change it to suit who Edward Elric was. He was making him and Blake Mustang complete opposites so no one could tie the two together! The only thing he got to keep was some of his sense of style. The style was easy, but the personality Mustang was giving him. He wasn't sure if he could pull that off!

"Though the punk thing." Mustang said, looking his cousin over. "I don't remember that when I last saw you. Are you already entering the rebellion phase, even though you are only a preteen?"

Ed rolled his eyes, though it wasn't seen because of his sunglasses.

"Punk thing?" Jackson repeated, staring at Ed with a frown.

Ed looked over at him. "What's wrong?"

"Chief was a punk too." Jackson said sadly.

Ed looked at Mustang with a frown. "Who's Chief?"

Mustang closed his eyes and leaned his head on the back of his chair. "A comrade that was killed the other day. You should have seen it in the papers or heard it on the radio. The Fullmetal Alchemist."

"Oh." Ed said, unsure of how he was supposed to react to this. When this was over, they were all going to pay for putting him in this awkward position. "Yeah, I heard about that. He was just a few years older than me, right?"

"Yeah," Havoc laughed sadly. "But you guys were the same height."

Ed's brow twitched and he started to open his mouth to scream when Mustang pinched his leg behind the desk. Ed yelped and jumped. "Ow." He muttered.

"What's wrong?" Mustang asked innocently.

Ed blinked. "Eh, sorry." He said quietly, turning back to the window. He closed his eyes and grimaced a bit. "Just a sudden pounding in my head."

Mustang frowned. "A migraine?"

'Yeah, you jerk. Just you wait until I am alone with you. I am going to scream at you until your ears bleed.' Ed thought angrily, but just nodded on the outside.

"Perhaps you should go back to where you are staying to rest." Mustang suggested.

Ed stared at him in confusion. Wasn't he supposed to come here for a reason?

"In fact, I don't want you running around the city by yourself, especially with a migraine." Mustang said. "Lieutenant Havoc will drive you."

"What?" Ed said, glancing at Havoc then at Mustang. "But–"

Mustang stood up and put a hand on Ed's shoulder. "Go. I'll come visit tonight and we can go out to dinner."

Ed blinked as Mustang turned him around and pushed him towards Havoc. What just happened?

"Come on, kid." Havoc said, grinning at the confused expression Ed was wearing.

*Car*

Ed sat in the passenger's seat of the military car he was in with Havoc. He stared ahead, still blinking.

"You okay, Chief?" Havoc asked.

Ed slowly turned his head to Havoc. "What was that about? The Colonel was acting weird."

Havoc laughed. "I believe that was what is called acting like you two are cousins."

"No!" Ed shouted, twisting in his seat to face Havoc completely. "That's wrong. He knew not to touch my sunglasses, but he did anyway. That was too risky. What the hell was he playing at? He played it off as wanting to see his cousin's eyes, but it wasn't right. I'm not an idiot, Havoc. Something's up."

Havoc glanced at Ed with a frown.

"And what happened to him? How did he get injured? And how did you get that bruise on your cheek?" Ed glared at Havoc. "I need to know what is going on, Havoc. We're safe in this car, so tell me everything. Tell me what made the Colonel this weird."

Havoc sighed. "Hughes happened."

Ed blinked. "Hughes? What happened with Hughes? He seems like a nice guy so I doubt–"

"Chief, Colonel is acting like a bastard towards your death and it angered Lieutenant Colonel Hughes. He got into an argument with Colonel in the office and punched him. Then while Colonel was cleaning up in the bathroom, Lieutenant Colonel Hughes went to talk to Colonel and they ended up in an argument which turned into fist fight between the two. When I tried to stop them, I got punched."

"What were they arguing about?" Ed asked, frowning at Havoc. This wasn't right. He knew he hadn't talked to Mustang much about what was going on when he wasn't around, but that was because he thought nothing was going on. Obviously, that was a stupid move for him.

"It–" Havoc paused and looked over at Ed. "Your death. It was about your death. Look Chief, it really doesn't matter. It happened and it has made things harder for Colonel. By the way, I'm supposed to tell you. You have to avoid Hughes at all costs."

Ed scoffed. "Whatever. I've already been restricted so much. What's one more restriction matter?" He leaned his head against the window and stared out it. "What's with my background? No alchemy? No fighting? And you guys made me weak with migraines!"

"Everything about Edward Elric is too unique, Chief. By restricting you by saying you don't have alchemy or any fighting skills, you won't use them so you won't risk revealing something with it." Havoc explained.

Ed sat up straight. "What? Can you guys seriously recognize me by my–"

"Yes."

Ed sighed and put his head on the window. "I don't know if I can pull off such a personality."

"You're going to have to, unless you want to get everyone in this operation killed." Havoc replied.

Groaning, Ed closed his eyes. That was the card they always played when telling him he had to do something without fault. They knew he would never be able to handle the guilt of getting someone killed because he messed up with something that he had to solely do. It was a harsh card to play on him, even if he did understand why they used it.

With a sigh, Ed opened his eyes and stared out the window. "But that doesn't explain why Colonel was acting weird and messing with my sunglasses. I get he was mad about his argument with Hughes, but Colonel was just being too weird when I saw him."

"Roy." Havoc corrected. "Always call him Roy. If you don't, you might mess up somewhere."

"Then you have to stop calling me Chief and just call me Blake." Ed retorted. "Otherwise you'll mess up."

"Fair enough."

"So, what was wrong with him? It didn't seem like an act." Ed muttered.

Havoc sighed. "Look, Chief, Hughes said some pretty rough things to Colonel and I just think they upset him, but I'm not him so I can't give you a really good answer. You'll have to ask Colonel."

Ed shrugged. "Whatever. Hughes messed with Roy's mind. We'll just go with that."

"Or it was all the punches to his face." Havoc added.

"Perhaps." Ed stared out the window with a frown. He didn't recognize the section of Central they were in. "Hey, Havoc, where are we going? This isn't the way to Madame Christmas's bar." Ed said. He looked at Havoc with wide eyes. "Am I being kidnapped? You're kidnapping me, aren't you?" He pointed a finger at Havoc. "Don't deny it, you kidnapper!"

Havoc shot a look at Ed. "What is wrong with you? You didn't get injected with any more drugs, did you?"

"Where are we going?" Ed demanded. When Havoc just continued driving down the road, Ed scowled. "Havoc!"

"Are you Edward Elric or Blake Mustang?" Havoc asked.

Ed growled. "Look, I only have basic information about Blake Mustang. What am I supposed to act like? I'm a punk right?"

"Your style of dress is similar to a punk, but you're not a punk. You're supposed to be punkish, but you still respect authority. You're a child, so you try to protest when told to do things, but you eventually obey. You're no longer a State Alchemist. You don't get special privileges so just behave, Blake. Be an obedient kid that likes to rebel a bit that also gets some migraines." Havoc explained. "You do know how to be a kid, right?"

Ed shrugged. "I guess, but Havoc. You keep deflecting! Where are we going?"

"Here we are." Havoc said.

Looking back out the window, Ed frowned in confusion. "Here? Why the hell are we at a church?"

Havoc ignored Ed as he climbed out of the car and motioned for Ed to follow him. Ed opened his door and looked up at the abandoned church. It looked like a grand church. It reminded him of a castle, just smaller in size of course.

The two walked up the stairs to the entrance. They entered the lobby of the church and Ed looked up in surprise at how high the ceiling was. Havoc ushered Ed on, passed the staircases that led to a second floor. He was led through a hallway that had stone walls, but halfway up the tall walls was where glass windows began, though the glass windows were colored glass with designs in them. Ed had no idea of what they meant, but he would guess some type of biblical meaning if he had too.

"Havoc, I'm not really understanding this." Ed said, looking around the hallway. "Why are we in this church?"

Havoc glanced at Ed with a grin. He was so confused.

At the end of the hallway, they turned right to continue down that hallway. This hallway was darker then the last with the only light coming from the glass windows at the top of the walls.

"Well, it's about time, Lieutenant."

Ed about jumped out of his skin when a man suddenly appeared out of a door at the side of the hallway. He looked to be around his late forties with dark brown hair that was cut short and dark brown eyes. His eyes looked a bit strained around them, but that may have just been the man's glasses tricking Ed. He was dressed in a black cassock with a gold cross pendant around his neck.

"Who the–"

Havoc quickly interrupted, "Blake, meet Reverend Fawkes. Or as he was known before, General Fawkes."

"Huh?!"
