A Death Eater's Lament

Chapter Seven

"Avada Kedavra me," Ginny said with a pleading look in her eyes.

Lucius shook his head. "I could never do that to you."

"Please Lucius, please kill me," she pleaded. Tears were welling in her eyes.

"Why? You're free!"

"No, I'll never be free! Voldemort will just give me to someone else. I'm used goods now. Please, Lucius! Life with Draco – I -I at least had learned how to read him, I knew what to expect. I don't want to have to learn all over again."

Lucius realized she was right. He could not allow that to happen. "Ginevra, hear me out. What if I could persuade Voldemort to give you to me? If I don't marry and have children the Malfoy line will die out. He placed you with Draco for very precise reasons. I think I could use those same reasons to get Him to give you to me."

"Why?"

He sat down on the edge of the bed facing her. "When you were first given to Draco, I believed it was a cruel joke, but I spent time researching your family background. As I told you before, the match is very good; both lines are truly clean. You know how I have treated you. I have never hurt you. You would not have to learn how to read me; you already know."

"It will hurt too much," Ginny stated.

"What will?"

She bit her lip. "Draco placed a charm on me. If I ever have sex with anyone other than him, it would feel like someone is using a knife on me." Lucius knew of the charm she was speaking of. It was dark magic, but it was also medieval. "He said the charm will remain for the rest of my life."

Lucius shook his head. "No, only until one of the two of you 're now free of that charm."

"What would being married to you entail?" she asked.

"The expectations on you would be the same as before; behave when out in public, enjoy life here at the Manor like when Draco was gone, and you would have to share my bed. I think you know me well enough to know I would never hurt you."

She looked down as if considering it. "Would you please take me to Azkaban so I can explain things to Dad? I wouldn't want him to hear it some other way."

He shook his head. "I won't take you there. I don't want you to have to relive some of the things that you have had to endure. But I will arrange to have him brought here."

She looked grateful. "Do you really think you can?"

"I won't fail you," he promised. "Would you mind telling me why you're wearing one of my dress shirts?"

She blushed slightly. "I don't own any night wear." Lucius realized that he had never bought her any.

By the end of the day Lucius had gotten Voldemort to give him Ginny. He had manipulated the events so that he got what he wanted. Now if he could just get her to not see him as an old man and get her to fall in love with him. The wedding could not take place until after Draco was buried. That night Severus returned to check on Ginny. Once that task was completed, he and Lucius had a drink together. "How are you doing?" Severus asked.

"It's been quite the day. I'm still trying to figure out what happened to Draco and when he became someone who could do that."

Severus was lounging in a chair. "I think I started to see a change in him after the Dark Lord gave him the task of killing Dumbledore. At the time I put it down to the fact that he felt that I had replaced you as the Dark Lord's right hand. I think it was just too much for him."

"I felt nothing but joy for Ginevra once he was dead," Lucius said as he stared into the fire.

"What all was happening?"

"She never defied him. She would be punished for things like menstruating or for giving a blow job too well. He placed a medieval fidelity charm on her and then allowed his friends to gang rape her. The beating she received after that nearly killed her."

"You're going to have quite the mess to clean up."

Lucius nodded. "I don't mind. I think she's worth it." He raised his glass and looked sideways at Severus. "To redheads."

Severus got a sad look on his face but raised his glass too. "To redheads."

The next day Lucius went to Azkaban to collect Arthur Weasley. He had Floo'd ahead, so Arthur was sitting in an interrogation room, waiting for who, he did not know. Lucius entered the room and noted that Arthur had lost weight since the last time he saw him. Arthur did not look pleased to see Lucius. "What do you want?" he snarled.

He wanted to bait the man, but he knew that the things Ginevra would tell him later would be more than enough for him. "Now, is that any way to talk to someone who has just gotten you a day out of this place?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Ginevra asked to see you. I felt that it was best for her to not come here, so I'm taking you to my Manor, for her." He indicated for Arthur to get up and then took him to the only fireplace connected to the Floo network. Once they arrived in the Manor, he took Arthur to Ginevra's beloved library. She was sitting on the sofa like always and when the door opened, she looked up. When she saw her father, the look on her face could never be described because too many emotions played on it. "Ginevra, I will leave you two here for two hours. Call an elf if you need anything." She gave him a smile and nodded.

As Lucius busied himself, he did recognize that Ginevra was with the one man whom he never had to worry about hurting her. He trusted her enough to not listen in on what was being said, but the interest in Arthur's reaction was almost unbearable. Lucius realized that for Ginevra this step, allowing her this time with her father, would show her that he trusted her, and hopefully build her trust in him.

Two hours later, Lucius knocked on the door before opening it and standing in the doorway. "Ginevra, it's almost time. I'll give you five more minutes for your goodbyes."

Ginevra looked at him. "Thank you, Lucius." Lucius then closed the door.

Five minutes later when he opened the door, Arthur and Ginny were hugging. He watched as Arthur placed a kiss on his daughter's forehead and whispered, "Be strong."

Ginevra had tears in her eyes. "I love you, Daddy."

Severus had entered the room as well. "Severus will take your father back," Lucius explained as Ginny and Arthur parted. Lucius saw Arthur was trying to remain in contact with his daughter for as long as possible. Before Arthur left the room, Lucius spoke, more to Ginevra, "You can write to each other once a month."

As her father crossed the threshold, Ginny called out, "Remember I love you."

Arthur simply looked back and gave her a sad smile. "Me too." Then the door closed behind him.

Ginny turned away from the door and Lucius. "Thank you." He could tell she was crying.

He walked over to her and placed his hands on her upper arms. "It's all right to cry. Let me be strong for you."

"You don't know what that meant to me," she whispered.

"I want to know how you're feeling."

She turned and faced him; he could see there were things she wanted to say, but like the last nine months she chose to keep those things to herself. "It still hurts." After a pause, "When will we be married?"

"By the end of the week." She only nodded. "Don't worry. I promise the charm he put on you broke when he died. And I have enough experience to be able to wait until you are fully healed before we consummate our vows."

"Dad wanted to know why you want to marry me," she stated.

"What did you tell him?" he asked as he led her back to the sofa. He knew she was still weak from the loss of blood.

"That you need a new heir," she replied.

He shook his head. "No, I could have an heir with many others. The simple fact of the matter is," It was still too soon to tell her how he really felt, "I've grown accustomed to you and I don't want to see you hurt. This way I have control over that."

"Accustomed to me?" she questioned, almost as if it was an insult.

"Yes. I like the way your whole face smiles when you're truly happy." She nodded, uninsulted.

Lucius took Ginny shopping for the things he forgot to buy her months before. After she selected night gowns and underwear, he took her to a dress shop to pick something out for their wedding. While the wedding would not be a grand affair, it would still be far more elegant than her wedding to Draco.

Once they arrived at the shop, he told her, "Ginevra, pick anything and everything you want. I have to go pick something up."

She smiled. "Thank you, Lucius." He then kissed the top of her hand before leaving.

One hour later Lucius was on his way back to the dress shop when he spotted Ginny standing outside the shop looking upset. He rushed over to her. "Ginevra, what's going on? Why are you out here?"

She looked scared. "I'm sorry, but I just could not stay in there any longer. Please don't be mad!"

"Ginevra, what's wrong? What happened?"

"I just – I just don't like that shop. Please, can we just go home?" She was really upset by something.

"Of course." He wrapped his arm around her and they Apparated to the Manor.

"I'm going to my room."

"Ginevra, stop. Tell me what happened." He wanted her to tell him because she trusted him, not because he told her to. "Please."

"There was someone at the shop who I went to school with. They weren't very kind."

"Tell me what they said."

"It does not matter." She looked frightened to talk about it.

"If it has you this upset, I want to know."

She turned away from him. "They think I'm a traitor to everything I ever held dear." Her voice cracked.

"I want to know word for word what they said."

"She said that I was betraying my family and friends every time I slept in your or Draco's bed. How can I look at myself when I'm living here in the lap of luxury while my family is either dead or in Azkaban and my so called friends are being used as slaves. And she's right." Ginny broke down.

"Ginevra, listen to me. It's easy for someone to judge, but I would never call what you have had to endure luxury."

"Really? Look at the clothing I wear, the food I eat, riding horses-"

"And having to endure Draco beating you and his sick head games. Let's not forget what he called food for you. Ginevra, a war was fought, and no matter what, there are always those who die. Some physically, some mentally, and then there are a very few like you. To be honest, I'm very worried about you. You are trying hard to be a survivor, but you're so very close to the edge. Look, we need to make something clear once and for all. Let's go and sit down." They entered his study and sat in chairs facing each other. "Ginevra, I have watched and seen you swallow your words more times than I can count, and every time you did I had a pretty good idea of what you were going to say. I appreciate the fact that you feel the way you do. Ginevra, I said when we're out in the public eye you are expected to behave. But here, behind closed doors, I think I would prefer it if you relaxed. To be honest, I believe you would be fun to argue with. I want us at the very least to be friends. Our children will need that, too."

She reached out and touched his hand; it was one of the few times she touched him. "Lucius, I get the feeling there's something you're not telling me."

He rose an eyebrow as he thought of a response. "There is, Ginevra. I'm sorry I was unable to do anything more to protect you from Draco and what he was doing to you."

She pulled away from him, stood up, and walked away. "It wasn't that bad."

Lucius could feel the anger building inside of him. "He's gone and he can't hurt you any longer! Why do you still insist on protecting him?"

She turned and faced him, "He is your son. I won't – I can't-"

Lucius jumped up and walked over to her. "Listen to me. I looked into your mind and I saw exactly what he did to you. I saw the bruises, I healed your wounds. You don't have to protect me or him in any way. I want to hear you say it. I want you to admit what he was doing to you!"

She shook her head. "No," she whispered, then ran from the room. Lucius stood in his spot for a minute, then went after her. One of the house elves informed him she was headed for her room. Once he reached her door, he softly knocked. She did not reply, but he could hear her muffled sobs. He opened the door.

"Ginevra?" He saw her lying face down on the bed, crying into her pillow.

"Please leave me alone."

He walked arcoss the room to the bed, reached out and touched her shoulder. "Why is it you never want me to see you cry?"

"Because crying is a sign of weakness."

"No! You crying could never be weakness, because Ginevra, you are one of the strongest people I have ever met. Everything you have done is for the people you love." He knelt down next to the bed and gently stroked her hair as he looked into her face. "And I admire you greatly, but you do need to release your emotions. I don't want to see you destroyed by them, just like I did not want to see Draco destroy you."

"Why? Why do you care? I don't understand. Why, you seem to care more about me than you do about Draco. He was your son, and me? I'm just a Weasley, I stand for everything you hate."

"Because of you." He was so close to telling her, but he knew it was still too soon. At that moment, he decided to wait until she could admit what Draco had been doing to her. Then she would be ready, but that also meant he would have to work on getting her to admit it.

On the morning of their wedding, Lucius had people come in to do Ginny's hair and makeup. He had found, between Draco's death and this morning, that he feared Voldemort would change his mind about Ginevra, deciding she needed to be with someone else. Lucius would feel much better once the wedding was over and Ginevra was his. Like months before, he waited; this time alone, at the bottom of the stairs for her. Then he finally saw her. This time she looked like an angel. The dress she picked was a white slip style dress that had a very slight A-line cut to it. The almost non-existent sleeves only capped her shoulders. There was no embroidery or bead work on it. It was very simple and classy. Her hair was down and free. It had been curled and now fell down her back. She wore no jewelry.

As she came down the stairs, Lucius found himself smiling. "You look almost perfect, you just need one thing," he said as he reached out and took her hand. "Come with me." He led her to his study.

Once they entered the room he let go of her hand and made his way to his desk. He pulled out a box from the jewellers that he had picked up, along with her ring, that morning. He walked back to her with the box behind his back. "You're quiet today."

"I'm nervous," she spoke, barely above a whisper.

He knew that she did not want to see the Dark Lord. "I won't allow anything to happen to you," he looked straight into her eyes. It saddened him to see fear in her. "No one will do anything to you, I promise."

"I believe you." He could tell she was being honest with him.

"I got this for you." He took the black velvet box from behind his back and opened it so the box was facing her. In the box was a necklace, bracelet and earring set, all platinum and diamonds. It looked like linked x's with only one side of the x diamond encrusted.

"Lucius, it's stunning."

"It pales in comparison to you. Let me help you with it." He took the necklace out of the box as Ginny turned around. It was easy to place it on her neck due to how he towered over her. She reached up and lifted her hair for him to fasten the clasp. He noticed her reach up and touch the necklace. She then turned around to face him as he took out the bracelet. "Give me your wrist." After he placed it on her, he felt now was the time. "Ginevra, I don't want others to be aware of what has been and has not been happening here. Your reaction to the kiss at the end of the wedding could make this clear to others, so I would rather share our first kiss here, now."

She looked more nervous than before. "Okay."

As he took her in his arms, Lucius found his level of want rising. As his lips met hers, he found that they were as soft and supple as silk. Lucius did not believe if he searched the whole world he would ever find someone who fit as perfectly in his arms as she did. He felt her arms wrap around him. She did not seem fearful of this kiss; he would have to find out why later. This was definitely not a chaste kiss; no, it was full of passion. He could tell she was going weak in the knees as he deepened the kiss. This caused him to smirk as he pulled away. He looked at her and wondered what she was thinking.

She looked very uncertain, "I'm sorry, it's just been a long time since I was last kissed."

"How long?" he asked.

She went a little red. "Last year, before the final battle. Neville gave me a friendly kiss," she explained.

He smirked again. "And what about a non platonic kiss?"

She touched her lips, "Almost two years."

He nodded but did not comment. "Put the earrings on," he urged, changing the subject.

When they arrived at the new Ministry, they were greeted by Death EaterMacnair. "Lucius, I'm sorry to say that your wedding will be simplified today as Pansy Snape was just found dead. She killed herself and her note claimed she could not go on without your son."

Lucius simply nodded and then gently pulled Ginny away from the other man's leering gaze. They headed to the room where marriages such as theirs were now performed. It was small and well confined. He knew in truth this was not a marriage, at least not in Voldemort's eyes. This was just a way to legally and magically bind young women to their husbands. Most weddings that took place here resulted in the girls being used as little more than sex toys, until it was time for them to conceive. He wanted more for Ginevra. However, until she was his property, he needed to behave as if that's all she was to him. And to an extent, even to her.

When they entered the room Voldemort was across from them at the front of the room. Lucius led Ginny across the room and then bowed to Voldemort. "Lucius, it is unfortunate that this must be cut short today. I know how you enjoy the pomp and ceremony of things like this." He then turned his attention to Ginny and Lucius felt her shudder. "Ginevra, you need not worry. I'm not angry with you. I know you are very much a key in keeping down the morale of any resistance, and you did not do anything wrong. Draco did not realize the gift I gave him. Luckily, Lucius is far wiser."

During the wedding a reporter was there and photos were taken. Once all the necessities were done, Lucius looked at Ginevra, who was now his. He had been hers for a long time. The easy part was now over and the hard part was just beginning. "Let's return to the Manor now." She only nodded.
