"First day!" Emma came running into Jess's room, jumping onto the bed in the process. "Aren't you excited?" Jess's only reply was a groan. "Oh come on! Aren't you supposed to be the morning person here?" She hopped up and turned on the light, and then was hit in the face with a pillow (anyone else ever done that?) "Jess!"

"You woke me up!"

"The zombie has awoken!" Darcy peeked his head in the door. Jess shrieked and dove under the covers while Emma threw a pillow at his face.

"Get out Darcy!" He backed out, hands held up in defeat.

"Okay, okay I'm leaving." There was a long, quiet pause.

"Is he gone?" Jess whispered, peeking one eye out from under the covers.

"Yes he's gone." Emma yanked the covers off of her. "UP! Its seven already! School starts at eight!" Jess literally shot out of bed.

"WHAT!" She grabbed here towel and ran out into the hallway, nearly falling over in the process. She was off to the bathroom as fast as humanly possible, leaving a laughing Emma behind. Emma was already dressed in her uniform, so she headed downstairs to grab some breakfast. Only her mom was in the kitchen, she was sure that her father was still sleeping and Darcy was getting some last minute video gaming done. She heard Jess running out of the bathroom and back to her room just as she was grabbing a box of cereal from the cabinet. She laughed. She ate her cereal in silence, wondering about the day ahead of her. She wondered what her new school, and the people there were going to be like. She was scared, but also excited. Jess shot into the kitchen, falling over herself and hitting the floor as she reached for the box of cereal next to Emma. Emma stifled her laughs as she helped her up.

"I'm so excited for today….and scared."

"Me too." Emma said. "Only about half an hour until we have to leave, you'd better hurry."

"I know." She turned towards the cabinets, "So where are the bowls?" Darcy laughed as he walked behind her, and opened the correct cabinet. Neither of them had noticed him entering the kitchen. "Thanks Darcy!" Jess must've been so nervous she didn't even blush at his slight laugh. She ate as fast as she possibly could (probably not the best idea) and ran out of the kitchen.

"Are you not ready yet?" Emma called.

"I have to grab my backpack!" She replied. Five minutes later they were stumbling out of the door and waiting on the corner for the bus. It pulled up five minutes after that and all three of them boarded every head turned to watch them walk down the aisle, it was as if they could smell the American on them. Emma knew that Darcy would probably be best friends with these guys within the next five minutes, but she and Jess were another story. She suspected that Jess felt just as awkward as she did and that was awkward with a capital AWK! They found an empty seat in the back and sat together. The rest of the ride to the school passed in silence, butterflies flitting around faster and faster in their stomachs.

They hopped of the bus and walked to the front of the school together, trying to avoid eye contact with anybody as they were attracting a lot of attention. They reached the front door and Emma turned to Jess.

"Are you ready?" Jess nodded slightly, she was a white as a sheet. Emma pushed open the door and they both stepped inside. Jess gasped. The place was gorgeous. It looked historic and it felt cozy. Emma relaxed a little.

"Ohhhh, newbies!" A shrill voice called. Yep, the relaxation moment was definitely over. A tall, blonde girl headed their way. "What do we have here?" She literally started circling them. Were they prey or something?

"I heard they were Americans." An equally shrill voice called out from the corner the blonde had emerged from. Were rumors circulating already? "Americans with a hot brother…" The voice added. Jess' face flushed. She rolled her eyes.

"Sorry, but can we ignore you some other time? We kind of have places to be. Come on Emma." Emma's shocked face was nearly identical to that of the blonde's as Jess shouldered past her.

"Wow, Jess. I didn't know you had that in you." Emma whispered to Jess when she had gathered up the courage.

"I didn't know either but hey! New school, new me! We have a fresh start here, let's use it to our advantage." Jess smiled confidently. Emma had never seen her like this, it was definitely a new her and Emma liked it, she thought.
