I'm back with an update! I know you're all probably going "Finally!" or something considering I've taken like 8 years to post it. I wouldn't say its my best work but I tried so I hope you'll like it. Also to answer a question: If you would like to send me a poem that you'd like to have in my story, I could try and make it work in my story by maybe changing a few words and such (I'll credit you at the end of course if I can make it work).
Another important thing is that after a few more chapter I will begin writing them when they're 14 or 15, because it just seems easier.

I signed my name at the bottom then closed the notebook and hid it under my sweater so no one would find it. I took one last look at Mikayla before laying on the bed and staring at the ceiling while thoughts raced through my head.
Chapter 7
I Have You In My Prayers
When I woke up the next morning a beautiful voice filled my ears, I was afraid if I opened my eyes the voice would go away so I kept my eyes closed.
From the day we arrive on the planet
And blinking, step into the sun
There's more to see than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done
There's far too much to take in here
More to find than can ever be found
But the sun rolling high
Through the sapphire sky
Keeps great and small on the endless round
It's the Circle of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle
The Circle of Life
It's the Circle of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle
The Circle of Life
When the voice finished singing I opened my eyes expecting to see my mom and have this all been a dream; the dream you have where everything's perfect... until you wake up, longing for it all. However, the only other person in the room was Mikayla. When she saw that I was awake she smiled.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you, it's just that I really like that song." She apologized. I shook my head.
"Oh, so I didn't wake you. Good. But since you're awake we should go downstairs and get some breakfast, cause you know, we have school."
She smiled softly while holding her hand out for me to take. I slowly put my hand in hers and felt the familiar sensation I did on the night at the beach. She pulled me up and we locked eyes before her door opened and a woman came inside. She let go of my hand and looked towards the door, why did she keep doing that?
"Mommy!" She said while the woman welcomed her with open arms. They embraced as I was reminded of times that my mom would hug me in the morning and tell me another story about when she was a child, she had so many stories that I loved hearing, so many stories that I would never hear again.
"Did you sleep well?" The woman asked Mikayla as she stroked her hair.
"Yes, mother." Mikayla answered.
"Good dreams?" The woman questioned. I was about to shake my head when I realized she wasn't talking to me. I watched as Mikayla nodded her head and the woman smiled in response before looking at me.
"Oh. I see you have a friend over. Why was I not informed of this Mikayla?" Mikayla's mother questioned in a stern voice.
"It's okay mama! Queen Annabella said he could sleep in my room, his names Brady!" Mikayla exclaimed. "Well, will Brady be joining us for breakfast?" She questioned with a smile on her face.
"I hope so! What do you say Brady?" She turned around so fast and stared at me with a hopeful look in her eyes. Her eyes...they were so mesmerizing I got lost in them for a minute or so before realizing I couldn't say no to her, not when she was looking at me like that, so I nodded.
"Yay! Let's go downstairs guys." Mikayla said before skipping out of her room and into the hall leaving me and her mother alone.
"Well Brady, after you." She gestured to the door while smiling at me, but something about this woman frightened me, I took another look at her and realized she wasn't smiling a sweet smile like the one my mother would give to me instead her smile looked...well I wasn't sure what it looked like, she seemed like a nice enough woman and if she was Mikayla's mom it must mean she's nice. I took a step forward before walking out of the room, into the hall and down the stairs. I heard quiet footsteps behind me as I reached the dining room.
"Brady! I saved you a seat, hurry!" Mikayla shouted. I started to walk towards the empty seat next to Mikayla before someone shoved past me and sat in the previously unoccupied chair. I frowned after seeing Mikayla wasn't going to make the ginger move.
"Hey man, come sit next to me." Boomer called out while gesturing to the chair next to him which was sandwiched between Boomer and the Queen. I quickly approached the chair not wanting a repeat of what happened last time before sitting down and looking at Boomer who greeted me with a smile, I smiled back, it was forced of course but nonetheless a smile. After everyone was seated and the noise started to quiet down the food began being passed around. While the food went around the table everyone took what they wanted before passing it off to the next person, when the Boomer passed the bowl of fruit over to me I took an apple and passed everything else that was handed to me to queen Annabella.
"You're only going to eat an apple?" Boomer questioned quite loudly while looking at me strangely. I shrugged before returning to my breakfast. I never had big meals, because my family never had much money, so I was used to eating small portions that my parents and I would collect from the jungle which mostly consisted of fruit and vegetables because my parents didn't believe in killing innocent animals. Even if it was rare we would still eat meat, but only if the animal was killed before we found it. After taking another bite from the apple the room fell silent and I glanced up to see everyone staring at me. I grew uncomfortable and quickly put the apple down then placed my hands in my lap while casting my head downward.
"What's wrong Brady?" Mikayla asked and I could hear the concern creeping into her voice. I didn't know how to tell her that I was uncomfortable being the center of attention so I simply shook my head in response. Soon the conversations around the table continued and I resumed eating my apple with my head down. The room grew quiet but not silent as a few more people entered the room and took their seats, then started putting food on their plates.
"I see we have a quest today." A loud but gentle voice spoke. I looked up and saw a man with kind eyes looking at me, I nodded slowly not really sure if he was asking a question. He smiled at me before gesturing towards the apple.
"Is that all you're going to eat?" The man with the kind eyes asked me. I nodded politely while he reached for the bowl of fruit before handing it to me all while keeping the smile. He gestured to the bowl of fruit as if telling me to take some more. I cautiously took a banana and a pear before returning the bowl to its previous spot, I looked at the man for approval and he smiled at me then nodded slightly.
"Much better. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, you know?" He questioned and I nodded, already having learned it from my parents. "So how about you introduce yourself?" He questioned then smiled kindly.
"His names Brady!" Mikayla shouted from across the table. Everyone turned to look at her, and she smiled sheepishly. The man with the kind eyes frowned for a second before his smile returned. "Well Mikayla, I'm glad you know his name but I was asking him." Mikayla apologized and he chuckled before turning back to me.
"Kunu." A voice beside me spoke. I looked up to see the queen looking at the man with the kind eyes quite strangely. "If you could come with me for a minute." She requested before they both stood and the man followed her out of the room.
"Well children. I believe it's time for you to head to school now." Mikayla's mother said as she gave us each a kind smile. Mikayla quickly ran out the room while everyone started cleaning up, I finished eating my banana but decided to save the pear for lunch today. Mikayla came running back into the room and handed me my sweater and notebook with a smile. I nodded a thanks as I put my sweater on then put the pear in my pocket. The two boys already left but Mikayla stood patiently waiting for me.
"Brady. I was hoping I could have a word with you?" I turned and saw the man with the kind eyes. I quickly nodded then follow him out of the room where the queen stood. "My wife told me about your situation at home." He stated calmly as I started to panic, 'how could they know what happened?! I didn't even tell anyone...except the teacher! She must've told them, but she promised me she wouldn't, so then who-' the kind man quickly cut my thoughts off.
"So until your parents come back from their trip, you are welcome here anytime. Okay?" I sighed a breath of relief. I remember telling the queen that my parents were on a trip last night. I nodded thanking them for their kindness then went back to Mikayla.
"Ready?" She questioned. I nodded briefly and we started walking to school. The entire way to school I couldn't help but feel like someone was following us, the thing is that it wasn't a bad feeling. About halfway there I felt a familiar warm feeling.
I will always be watching over you.
I took a deep breath then looked up to the clouds. I closed my eyes and kept telling them that I love them, hoping more than anything that they would get the message, then continued walking with Mikayla. As soon as Mikayla and I got to class I ran to my seat, opened my notebook, and began to write.
I Have You In My Prayers
I constantly feel a warmth around me
like your presence is near,
And so I close my eyes to pretend
that you are still here
The times we spent together
are forever locked inside my heart
Guarded by walls so high,
built from the strongest bricks money could buy
So for as long as I hold those memories
we will never be apart,
Even though we cannot speak
Your voice is always there,
telling me wrong from right
Because before I rest for the night,
I have you in my prayers
I closed my notebook then looked over in confusion when I noticed Mikayla sitting next to me. "We're partners remember?" she simply said before winking at me. She quickly sent a smile my way before focusing her attention to the front of the class, and in that moment I knew. I knew that as long as I had her, I would be okay.
Again, hope you liked it! P.S: Started a new story, and I was hoping you'd check it out, its called: Accidently Falling. Thanks!
