"Hello everyone,I know I have been away for months but I have my reason, one of them is because Hurricane Maria decided to pay my beloved island Puerto Rico/Port Royal a little visit. I'm sure you all can imagine or seen on the News, or those of you who live here like me, that it was a SCARY and DISASTROUS moment. Thankfully I didn't lose my house, I apologies to those who have lost theirs, so I had no water or electricity for 3 months, and I had to help out any way i can for my family. But now Thank God i have water and electricity at my house and I hope that the rest of the island get it back soon. I was able to post this chapter thanks to my friend Yuki who has internet, and I was really surprise that instead of losing followers/favs on this fanfic I keep getting more and that some of you are still staying so Thank you all very very much. I hope you like this chapter cause I worked really hard on it"

1. Yes this fanfic was created to be about Mericcup
2. It might take a while for them to even be in the same place without punching eachother
3. They will but not now or in the future chapters
It's quite alright. As a matter of fact my little sister got herself a new laptop and gave me her old one. So now I'll be able to write my fanfic without going to the library
mistysherwood1
I'm glad you love my fanfic, don't worry it will be revealed in this chapter what happened. And I'm not quite sure about 'Merida' being misspelling but I just ignore it and still write it that way.
Taranodongirl1
No matter what this fanfic will continue. But you have to be patient

Nope. Not at all. That is totally not the reason. You are not crazy but that is not true. ABSOLUTLY not the reason.
Iona liking Hiccup? Who will like that skinny, silly, clumsy, beautiful forest green eyes, and kind smile Viking… Wait! Forget that! Forget what I said! THAT IS ABSOLUTLEY NOT THE REASON!
Momijifan Low-Ki
I wanted their bond to be formed different than the usual. And I know what you mean, that's why we now have to use our cellphones to record them so they'll believe it.

I hope your girlfriend forgives you
Also I'm sure mistysherwood1 and Taranodongirl1 understand that they need to be patient, they're just excited about the story so it's alright.
Chapter 06
After finishing his work at the smithy and managing to escape from Gobber's questions, Hiccup went to get Merida so they could go to the cove but he couldn't find her at all. He searched everywhere in the village, she wasn't at the docks, or the great hall, he even went to her house and asked Gothi but she hasn't seen her either, or at least that's what he understood when she wrote it on the ground. Hiccup went to his house thinking that the red hair Viking girl was waiting for him there but unfortunately she wasn't.
'Where could she be?' thought Hiccup trying to think of other places she might be.
As he continues his search Hiccup's green eyes spotted someone he recognize walking by, it was Iona, a thought came to him that he could ask her if she's seen Merida but part of him wonders if it was a good idea, since the two girls aren't exactly on friendly terms with each other. He remember one time that Iona challenged Merida to arm wrestling in which she accepted it and before he knew it the two girls started fighting each other, it took both Gobber and Brenda to separate them and a scolding from Stoick to get both of them to behave. Before he could decide whether or not to ask her Hiccup started to wonder if he should even talk to her since he knows that the Viking girl doesn't like him much, but he had no other choice if he wanted to find Merida and see Toothless.
"Iona!" called Hiccup.
Iona turned around to see who was calling her and made an annoyed expression when she sees that it was Hiccup coming towards her. Hiccup stooped in front of her and was feeling nervous from the way she was looking at him making him re-think his decision.
Iona sigh and crossed her arms "What is it Hiccup?"
"Oh umm I-I just w-wanted to ask you if-if you uh-If you've seen a uuuh" stammered Hiccup trying to find the right words.
"Hiccup. Just say it already!" scolded Iona her patience reaching its limits.
Hiccup flinch "S-Sorry! H-Have you seen Merida?"
Iona had a confused look on her face "Why would I know that?"
"W-W-Well I know y-you two aren't exactly f-friends or anything. B-But do you at least now where y-you've seen her last time?" asked Hiccup hoping that she at least knew something and not get a punch from her.
Iona gave him a small glare but then sigh as she closed her eyes, trying to remember the last time she saw the red hair Viking girl "Nope. Haven't seen her at all, but…"
"But what?" He asked.
"If I have to guess she could be in the forest" she replied.
Hiccup looked confused and raised his right eyebrow "The forest?"
Iona nodded "I sometimes see her go in there with her bow and arrows, and when she comes back she has less arrows with her" she explained "If Red hasn't ran out of arrows yet she might still be practicing somewhere"
"I see" said Hiccup as he began to think in silent for a moment and then a thought came to him that made him panic 'Oh no' he made a quick run, leaving a surprise and confuse Iona behind.
"H-Hiccup?!"
"Sorry got to go! See ya later!"
Hiccup was running through the forest as fast as his skinny legs could go, he prayed to the Gods that Merida was not careless enough to go to the cove alone with Toothless there. A lot of scenarios went through his head of what could possibly go wrong, for one thing Merida could have gone there and decided to kill the dragon but he didn't want to believe that, he wanted to believe that she kept her word. Another possibility is that she could be in danger without him to calm Toothless down, fearing that the Night Fury might blast Merida with his fire. Hiccup stopped picturing the whole thing since it was not helping him feel any better and just kept running towards the cove.
As soon as he entered the cove Hiccup leaned on the entrance gasping for air, his eyes scanned the cove from left to right. He had expected to see fire blast or arrows flying all over the place, hear a battle cry with the roar of a dragon throughout the area or even worse blood but the moment he spotted them his eyes were wide with shock to what he saw 'What in Thor's name?!' Hiccup's forest green eyes saw the red hair Viking girl down at the cove unharmed and seems to be looking for something in the water? He also sees that the Night Fury was unharmed too and was looking excited about something.
Merida moved around the edge of the water then grabs an arrow from her quiver and points it at her target and Toothless kept his eyes close on her and at the water. She shoots the arrow at the water and walked right towards it, she grabbed the arrow in which caught a fish and pulls it out. Merida then tossed it to the Night Fury who caught it easily and ate it in seconds. Hiccup couldn't believe what he was seeing; Merida was down at the cove apparently fishing while having the most deadly dragon that ever lived watching her every move. Hiccup eyes widen more when he sees that Merida was actually smiling and so was Toothless 'That's it I lost my mind' thought Hiccup.
Merida drew her arrow back again and looks for another fish, she spotted one and kept her eye on it for a few more seconds then let the arrow go and caught it. She walks into the water already used to the cold and grabs the arrow. She gets out of the water, pulls the fish out and throws it to the dragon, who caught it without trouble and ate it whole again.
"That makes it nine 'at should be enough" said Merida as she places her bow over her shoulder.
The Night Fury tilt his head and gives her a confused look in which the red hair Viking girl understood his confusing.
"Aam not catchin' ye any more fish" told Merida.
Toothless gave a small glare at her and made a gurgle sound. Merida didn't have to be a genius to know what the dragon was saying "Ah know yoo're still hungry but Ah can't catch all th' fish from th' sprin'. If Ah do that thaur won't be any more fish left" she replied hoping he understand what she's trying to say, but judging by the look on his face he didn't.
Toothless snorted then looks away from the red hair girl, Merida gave a sigh and had a half smile not believing that the dragon was actually pouting. She then notice that the Night Fury turn his head back at her but his gaze wasn't focus on her and he looked happy, Merida was confuse until she turned around and was surprise to see Hiccup walking towards her. Hiccup stops just a few feet in front of Merida and Toothless and was a bit nervous on what to say. Merida on the other hand crosses her arms and gives him a small glare "Whaur have ye been?"
Hiccup's expressing change from nervous to surprise "M-Me?! I'm should be asking you that!" he told feeling a bit offended "I was looking all over the village for you"
"Ah was practicin' mah archery in th' forest" answered Merida "Since ye didn't know whaur Ah practice Ah went to th' forge to find ye, but ye weren't thaur. So Ah thooght ye might have come to th' cove but when Ah got haur ye weren't haur at all"
"Well no I-I was still working" stated Hiccup "After I was done I was all over trying to find you"
"Weel ye found me" declared Merida as a matter of fact.
"I can see that" grumbled Hiccup a bit annoyed.
"So whaur's th' saddle?" She asked noticing that he didn't have it with him.
Hiccup made a sigh and scratched his head "I-It's still at my house"
"Ah thooght ye said ye waur gonnae to test it today?"
"I was I-I mean I am!" claimed Hiccup feeling a bit frustrated "I am going to test it but I was busy looking for you that I forgot to bring it"
"Alright Ah get it sorry for wasting yer time lookin' for me. Ye don't have to be so upsit about it"
"I'm not upset! I-I mean I am but-but that's not the problem here!"
"Then what is th' problem?"
"The problem is you shouldn't be here!" yelled Hiccup looking angry at her.
Merida was caught surprise by Hiccup's outburst but then she narrowed her cerulean blue eyes at him and yelled back "Ah thooght we agreed that Ah can come visit so long as Ah don't teel anyone about yer dragon!"
"I know b-but you can't come here alone" replied Hiccup with a bit of anger "You shouldn't be here without me"
"Why not? Do ye think Ah was gonnae to kill heem?" She question him.
"Yes! I-I mean no! What I mean is that you should have waited for me to get you!" He explained trying to get to the point "You could have been hurt without me here to handle Toothless. You could have been hurt!"
"Aam not exactly helpless!" argued Merida as she clenched her fists "Ah can defend myself jist fine without ye!"
"Oh sure a bow and arrow are just a fitting weapon to fight the unholy offspring of lighting and death!" remark Hiccup sarcastically.
"Oh like a wee dagger is any better!" yelled Merida.
Suddenly the Night Fury let out a loud roar that made both Hiccup and Merida jump from surprise, both teens look at Toothless who was glaring and growling at them but not because he was threatening them, but because the black dragon was getting tired of their human quarrel. Hiccup and Merida look at each other but then looked away feeling a bit awkward that they actually argued. Then they heard something thinking that the Night Fury was growling at them but they realize that it was just the dragon's stomach making that sound. Toothless look at his stomach and then gave a small glare at the Viking boy who promise to bring him more fish.
Hiccup smiled nervously "Oh s-sorry Toothless, guess you're still hungry? I'll go get you more fish"
"Not without me yoo're not" said Merida as she started putting on her boots "By th' time ye get th' fish and saddle we might as well camp th' night haur"
"Gee thanks" said Hiccup sarcastically.
~0~
It was an awkward silence between the two Viking teens as they walked to the village. When they arrive Merida went to get something from her house and told him that she'll meet him in the forest, Hiccup didn't ask any questions and went to fetch the fish and saddle. Hiccup got the saddle from his house and manage to get another basket full of fish. When he got what he came for Hiccup went into the forest and met up with Merida, once they knew no one watched or followed them and they made their way back to the cove.
Hiccup had the saddle in his arms and Merida carried the basket of fish and she was also carrying a bag. Hiccup didn't say anything about it nor did either of them said a word to each other. Hiccup didn't even know what to think, for one thing he was really surprised that he and Merida got into an argument, it had never happened before even when they were little. He couldn't recall a time that he was ever that angry or yelled at anyone, if he had he was sure to receive a beating from them. He also couldn't believe that Merida was able to bond with Toothless so easily while it took him longer to even get close enough to touch him, not to mention earning the dragons trust. Hiccup wondered how the red hair Viking girl was able to do it, did she use the same method he use to touch Toothless? He just didn't understand and it somehow made him feel annoyed. If Hiccup didn't know any better he might be feeling a bit jealous of Merida, it's stupid but you couldn't blame him either; she is a better fighter than him, can pretty much handle any weapon he could make for her but would rather stick with a bow and arrow any day. He would also hear his Father praise her and wonders why he couldn't be more like Merida or any of the other Vikings for that matter. Part of Hiccup thought that since he was able to catch, touch and fly a Night Fury he finally did something more incredible and impossible that no one has ever done. But he was wrong, Merida was able to bond with Toothless without even needing his help, and it seems that Toothless likes her more than him which made Hiccup feel even more useless.
Merida can't believe what transpired at the cove earlier, she and Hiccup got into a fight, not the kind that required swords or axes but the kind with words and yelling at the other person. As long as she has known Hiccup, she never seen him so angry before, not with Snoutlout or even with the other Vikings for that matter. She remember when they were little that Merida would get mad at him for silly things and he will always apologies but he never got angry at her. Merida was completely caught surprise that he yelled at her for being at the cove, and was not allowed to be there without him? It sounded like she needed Hiccup's permission to be there, which is stupid cause he's not her Father or the Chief, he doesn't have the right to tell her what to do or not to do. But when Merida thought about it Hiccup was right, she should have waited for him before entering the cove. Even though nothing bad happen to her, she could've been hurt without him since the Night Fury only listens to him. And Hiccup is the future Chief, someday she will have to listen to him though with the way the other Vikings think of him it doesn't look like they will want him as a Chief, even his own Father doubts that Hiccup had what it takes to lead a whole village. Merida knew that she had to apologies to him but can't get the words out, afraid that she might make things worse for them.
Once both Viking teens arrive at the cove, Merida opened the basket and let all the fish inside slide out. Toothless was happy that he gets to eat a lot of fish again and didn't waste a second later as he dig in. Both teens made a disgusted look and moved away from the dragon, Hiccup and Merida sat far away from each other and waited for the dragon to finish eating. Merida had her knees close to her chest and her arms around them, Hiccup had his legs crossed and used his left hand to support his head while watching Toothless eat and waiting for him to finish so he can use the saddle. As he waited Hiccup glance at Merida and sees that she was smiling, he couldn't remember the last time she ever smile like that and wonders what she could be thinking while smiling and watching Toothless. Merida notice Hiccup glancing at her which made him stop and focus his sight on Toothless.
After a few minutes past Toothless was done eating all the fish, Hiccup stands up from the ground and grabs the saddle "Toothless".
Toothless looks at the small Viking wondering what he wants now? Hiccup smiles and shows the saddle to the dragon. The Night Fury was curious of the object that the small Viking boy was holding but could tell that it was meant for him. As Hiccup took a few steps forward, Toothless suddenly crouches down and he sees a playful look form on the dragon's face and before he knew it Toothless started running "Hey!" And Hiccup ran after him. As Hiccup tried to catch Toothless he could tell by the dragon's face that he was enjoying this and strangely enough so was he.
Merida couldn't help but laugh at the strange scene she was seeing, a dragon; a Night Fury was running away from Hiccup, which is something you don't see every day. Merida smiled as she saw the happy expression on Hiccup face and quietly enjoying the chase between boy and dragon.
Hiccup stops running and tries to catch his breath, he sees that Toothless had also stopped running and just stared at him as if waiting for him to continue their little game. Hiccup gave a sigh but still had a playful smiled on his face "Be a good Dragon and hold still!" he ran towards the Night Fury and with no surprise Toothless ran away from him.
After 20 minutes of running around the cove Toothless finally let the small Viking put on the strange object on him. Hiccup places the saddle on the Night Fury's back and strapped it nice and tight but not too tight. Merida watch from behind as Hiccup put the saddle on the dragon and tied a rope to the prosthetic fin, Hiccup looked at the handmade fin glad to know that it was fine to test again and he check over the saddle once more and was relief that he made it the right size for the dragon.
"What do you think Toothless?" he asked.
Toothless looks at the saddle and looked back at the small Viking with a confuse expression "It's to help you fly a-and the only way to do that is for me to ride on you" explained Hiccup hoping that Toothless understood "That is if y-you let me" Toothless looks at the small Viking and the saddle on his back, and to both Hiccup and Merida's surprise the dragon moved his head as if telling him to 'Get on', Hiccup smiled and hesitantly got on Toothless.
Never in her life would Merida imaging that the sight of seeing Hiccup on a dragon like a rider would ever happen, but here he is sitting on a Night Fury ready to fly up in the air, if someone were to tell her about this kind of thing she would think that they gone completely mad. Hiccup felt strange being on a dragon but was amaze that he was actually doing it, he adjust himself on the saddle and was ready to take off but then forgot the rope. He turns to Merida and had a nervous smile "C-C-Can you uh can you hand me the rope?"
Without hesitation Merida grabbed the rope and hands it to him.
"T-Thanks" said Hiccup then got himself ready "Um you might want to stand back" Merida nodded and takes a few steps away from them, not wanting to fall again. Hiccup looked at Toothless and asked "Ready Toothless?" Toothless smile and spread his wings out as if saying 'Yes'
"Let's go!"
Toothless took off from the ground and was flying, Hiccup was making sure to keep the fin open and hang on tight to the saddle. Merida stared wide eye astonished that not only was Hiccup on a Night Fury like a rider but now she's seeing him fly with the dragon around the cove, now this is definitely something you don't see every day. Hiccup was nervous and excited he couldn't believe that he's actually flying, he was flying on a dragon a Night Fury and the fin and saddle he made were working great. He and Toothless were flying above the spring water and Hiccup was having no trouble keeping the fin open. Hiccup looks forward and pulls the rope but it causes the tail to break free "Whoa!" he was send flying out of the saddle and he fell into the water and so did Toothless.
"Hiccup!" yelled Merida as she runs toward the edge of the water and sees him resurface.
"I'm fine! I'm fine!" replied Hiccup as he swam towards the shore and Toothless does the same. Hiccup and Toothless got out of the water and Toothless shake the water off of him.
Hiccup goes towards Toothless "You okay Toothless?" Toothless nodded then Hiccup checked the saddle and the fin and was glad that it didn't get damage "Do you think you can fly again?" the Night Fury spread its wings out and nodded.
Few hours later…
Merida was sitting on a rock carving on her bow with a dagger, a shadow past by over her and made her look up.
Throughout the day Hiccup has been flying on the Night Fury and trying to control the prosthetic fin but every time they flied they both end up falling again, again and again. Merida sees them flying around the cove and were doing fine until Hiccup pull the rope to try and make it turn but that just made him fly out of the saddle and into the water with the dragon again.
Merida sigh "And that's ten" she voiced.
Hiccup and Toothless resurface and swam towards the shore, a soon as he was out Toothless started to shakes the water off of him. Hiccup gave a small smile "I guess that's enough for today" he walks close to Toothless and starts taking off the saddle and the prosthetic fin "We can try again tomorrow". Toothless merely stretches and then walks away from the two humans, he finds a nice spot to take a nap and fires it up and then curls on it.
Hiccup takes off his fur vest and started to rinse the water out and was shivering from being wet and cold, from the corner of his eye he notice Merida doing something, she was pilling wood together and forming a circle with rocks. Hiccup then realize that she was making a fire, Merida grabs a flint and a rock and started to skim them together, after a few more attempts sparks came out and landed on the wood, she cupped her hands and blew on it and then fire was made.
Merida sat down and place her stuff next to her and then look at Hiccup in which made him flinch "Weel?"
Hiccup blinks "W-What?"
"Do ye want to warm yerself or do ye want to stay dreich and get sick?" she asked.
"Oh uh t-thanks" he said.
Hiccup grabs the fin and saddle and sat down near the fire, he took off his boots and rinse them out. Merida pull out two Icelandic cod from her bag and stabs both of them on a stick and place the fish near the fire so it can be cooked. Both teens stayed quiet as they watch the fire cook the fish, Merida kept turning them and Hiccup just kept himself warm.
After a few minutes Merida pick up the two fish and offered one to the Viking boy, Hiccup was surprise but gladly took the fish from her and thanked her with a nod and a small smile, Merida nodded and took a bite from her fish. Both teens ate quietly their fish hearing nothing but the water from the spring and the few birds that flew by the cove. As Hiccup took another bite from his fish he glance at Merida, a part of him thinks that he should apologies for what happen earlier but he didn't even know how to bring it up. Then another part of him thinks that maybe its best he stayed quiet and not make their awkward situation worse, it actually feels a bit nice that both of them are eating together again much better than what happen last time at the Great hall. Hiccup sees that Merida also glances at him and he quickly looks back at his fish and continued eating.
"Aam sorry"
Hiccup almost choke on his fish but he swallowed it slowly and looked wide eyed shock at the Viking girl "W-What?"
Merida didn't looked at him she just stare at her fish and spoke "Aam sorry for yellin' at ye and comin' to th' cove. Ah know it was a bit foolish of me to be haur alone without ye to handle th' dragon. Ah should have waited for ye but Ah didn't… So I'm sorry"
Hiccup was surprise he was quiet for a moment until he found his voice "I-It's okay… And I'm sorry too".
Merida was taken aback to what Hiccup said and look at him "For what?"
Hiccup scratch his head "F-For yelling at you too and-and what I said about how you can't be here and can't handle yourself without me, which now that I think of it sounds silly since you obviously can" he said then gave a small smile "I'm just glad nothing happen to you and Toothless"
To his surprise Merida gave a small smirk "Let me guess, ye thooght we waur gonnae kill each other, didn't ye?" she asked her tone sounding playful.
Hiccup gave a nervous laugh "Heh n-no well, kind of… Okay yes".
"Can't say Ah blame ye" said Merida "When Ah arrived to th' cove an' didn't see ye. Ah kind of thooght that ye might have been eaten by th' Night Fury"
"I don't blame you either for thinking that" responded Hiccup.
Both Viking teens laughed already forgetting about the argument they had earlier and continued eating their Icelandic cod. Hiccup looked at Merida and notice that she was looking at Toothless with a small smile, it really amaze him, he's never seen her act like this before and it was because of the Night Fury. With a bit of courage Hiccup spoke "Hey umm Merida" Merida stopped looking at the dragon and turn her attention at him "Uh h-how did you manage to get close to Toothless? That is umm without getting burn alive" he asked wanting to know how she was able get the dragon to trust her so quickly.
Merida looks back at the dragon with a smile and answered "When Ah saw heem tryin' to catch a fish to eat, Ah decided to help heem. At first he was cautioos but after Ah caught a fish and gave it to heem, he warmed up to me a wee bit"
Hiccup looked down at his fish "T-That's great" he said trying to sound happy but part of him still felt a bit jealous 'I shouldn't feel this way. Their getting along that's good, right?' he thought.
Merida knew that something was bothering Hiccup but before she could ask him she sees his gaze goes towards the Night Fury and both of them see Toothless waking up. Toothless look to where the two humans were sitting and started walking towards them. The dragon got close to the small Viking boy, Toothless lied down next to Hiccup and returned to sleep. Without thinking twice Hiccup extended his hand and place it on the Night Fury's head. At that moment Toothless opened his right eye looking at the small human boy who still kept his hand there and gave a small smile. After a few more seconds the dragon close his eye and Hiccup took that as a sign that the Night Fury didn't mind and he started petting him which got the dragon to purr like a cat.
Merida gave a small laugh "Once again ye amaze me Hiccup"
Hiccup looks at her with surprise "What? Why?"
"Hiccup ye waur able to catch a Night Fury one of th' most dangerous dragons in all of Berk an' instead of killing it ye set heem free" said Merida with admiration "Ye waur able to get close to heem without getting' burn alive, form some sort of incredible bond with heem and most of all ye flied with heem. Ye were flying on a dragon somethin' that no one has ever done in their whole life. Ah don't think Ah could have believe it, if Ah didn't see it with mah own eyes"
Hiccup was speechless to what Merida said and felt kind of embarrassed how she was praising him as if he was some sort of great warrior or something "Believe it or not I-I'm still a little shock about it myself" he said as he rubbed his neck "To tell you the truth I didn't think that the prosthetic fin would work, but I was so glad that it did. For once something that I made actually works and if I keep it up I'll be able to get Toothless back in the sky again".
Merida gave a small smile and took a bite from her fish "So" she swallowed and spoke "How did ye feel when ye tooch Toothless th' first time?"
Hiccup closed his eyes and began to think, trying to remember the feeling from that time "The moment I made contact I was surprise. Never in my life would I thought I be able to actually touch a dragon let alone a Night Fury without losing a finger. It was unbelievable" he answered as he continued petting Toothless with a smile "How about you? How did you feel when you touch him?"
Merida shrug her shoulders and bit her fish "Nothing".
Hiccup was confuse to what he heard and look at her "Nothing?"
"Nothing" repeated Merida taking another bite.
Now Hiccup was really confuse not quite understanding her answer "W-Wait what do you mean by nothing? How can you not felt nothing?" he pondered.
Merida replied with her mouth a bit full "Ah felt naethin' coz Ah didn't tooch heem, that's how"
"But why?"
Merida swallowed and pointed at the dragon "He didn't let me"
Hiccup was surprise he looked back and forth between Merida and Toothless trying to understand what she meant "B-But earlier I saw you, I saw both of you close together"
"Only coz Ah was givin' heem fish, but he still wooldn't let me tooch heem. Toothless doesn't trust me, he trust ye Hiccup" stated Merida "Yoo're th' only one who can get close enough to touch heem and even ride on heem. He only trust ye alone"
Hiccup was dumbfounded from what she said and gaze at Toothless who was still sleeping with wonder in his eyes. Hiccup had no idea that the Night Fury held such trust towards him, enough to even let his guard down, had it been anyone else they would use it against the dragon and kill him, which made a small part of him a bit mad if anyone ever did that. Sure Hiccup almost killed the dragon when he caught him but now just thinking about it made him feel sick to his stomach and feeling a bit guilty, especially when he was the one responsible for his missing fin. But after hearing what Merida said and seeing how Toothless has somehow forgive him and trust him with his own life made Hiccup feel really happy and even more determined to get the dragon flying again no matter what. Hiccup couldn't help but let out a small laugh about his earlier thoughts, he was jealous for nothing.
Merida tilt her head a little "What's so funny?"
"Oh uh n-nothing really" he replied feeling a bit embarrassed.
Merida was confuse but then gave a shrug "Can Ah take a look of th' saddle?"
Hiccup was surprise and confuse by Merida's request but he gladly handed the saddle to her, he watch as she look at it from top to bottom as if expecting if there was anything wrong with it. Merida look at the saddle as if it was a rare treasure, she looked at it from far and up close every inch of it, admiring the detail Hiccup work to make it and couldn't help but trace her hand on the saddle feeling the smooth leather brush on each of her fingers tips. When she felt satisfied with it she gave the saddle back to Hiccup.
"Ye really did a great job makin' this Hiccup" commented Merida.
Hiccup face made a small blush feeling a bit happy that his work was being praise "T-Thanks"
"Have ye come up with a solution oan not to fall out the saddle?" She question.
"I may have an idea or two" He answered "I'll work on it when I head back to the forge tonight"
Merida rolled her eyes but smiled "Of coorse" she then place more wood on to the fire and pull out two more fish from her bag "Want anither Icelandic cod?"
"Sure" He said.
Merida stab the two fish on a stick and place both of them by the fire, she then notice that the Night Fury acid green eyes were opened and were fix on the fish. Toothless notice that the Viking girl was looking at him making him turn his head away, Merida smirk and then pull out a few more fish from the bag and place them on the ground which didn't went unnoticed by the black dragon.
"Go on Toothless. Efter all that crash landin' ye earned it" said Merida.
Toothless gets up and walks towards the fish, he looks at the Viking girl and nods as if saying 'Thanks' and then starts eating. After a few minutes past both Viking teens began eating their fish and enjoyed their peaceful time at the cove with the Night Fury who already finish eating and was sleeping again. As they ate Merida asked Hiccup a few things about the fin, part of her wondering where he got the idea of making it, in which Hiccup gladly answered with excitement but she reminded him to keep it simply for her to understand. Meanwhile the Night Fury just slept but could still hear the two humans happily chatting with each other which was better than both of them arguing.
As time passed by, the two Viking teens notice that night has fallen on the cove, which means it was time for them to head back. Merida put out the fire, place her bow over her and grab the empty basket with one hand and Hiccup grab the saddle and fin so he can improve them at the forge.
"Goodnight Toothless" smiled Hiccup.
Merida waved "Night Toothless"
The Night Fury made a yawn and then curled himself to sleep and both teens left the cove. As they walk back to the village, Hiccup was lost in thought on how to stay on the saddle and control the fin better, while Merida just watch him from the corner of her eyes with a small knowing smile that the Viking boy was lost in his thoughts on what to make next. She could always tell that something was on his mind just by his expression, just like when they were little, he was still the same back then as he is now. As they continued walking Merida thoughts began to remember about their time at the cove, it felt nice, just like back when they spent together when they were little, like they were still friends but sadly deep down she knew it was different now. Merida stopped walking and knew that she had to know the answer before she loses the nerve to ask.
"Hiccup"
Hiccup snap out of his thoughts and looks back at Merida, who was few steps behind him, she was avoiding eye contact with him but began to speak "Remember when ye introduce me to Toothless an' ye called me yer friend?"
"Oh uh y-yeah" he said nervously.
"Weel did ye mean it?" Merida asked still not making eye contact "Are we friends? Or was that just for Toothless so he wooldn't hurt me?" She asked while mentally preparing herself for the answer she was expecting.
Hiccup didn't know what to say, he gaze at the saddle and fin in his hand as if it was the only thing to see, sure he did say that so Toothless wouldn't attack but now he also wonders if the two of them are friends or not. Up till now, they been together since yesterday and she's the only one that he could talk to about Toothless, and he's still very grateful that she hasn't told anyone. He began recall their time at the cove, part of him felt happy. He enjoyed how they all ate together and how he talked to Merida about his invention and Toothless sleeping next to him almost wishing that it wouldn't end. A small smile form on his face 'Maybe we are-' but then a flash of a memory came to him that cause the small smile to stop, Merida took a small glance and notice that his face showed sadness and had a good idea why?
"I umm… You said" said Hiccup sadly "D-Didn't you say that you, t-that you-'
"Ah know!"
Hiccup flinch from her sudden outburst and look at her with surprise, in which Merida was also surprise for saying that a bit too loud but knew that she had to clear up what he was thinking "Ah know that efter…" Merida was nervous but sighed and her blue eyes made contact with his green eyes which made Hiccup more nervous "Efter that dragon raid Ah know that Ah stop talkin' to ye and tauld ye Ah didn't want to be aroond ye anymore. But Ah had to coz… Coz of Anma"
Hiccup looked confuse "Gothi?"
Merida nodded "Efter what happen that day, she tauld me not to get involved with ye anymore, if Ah did ye be in more trooble with yer dad. Ah didn't want ye to be in trooble and Ah didn't want to stop being yer friend… But Ah cooldn't disobey her since Anma is an elder and th' only one who took me in. Aam-Aam really sorry that Ah hurt ye Hiccup" she said sadly with a bit of shame in her voice.
A moment of silence pass between them, Hiccup didn't say anything making Merida feel nervous and anxious to what was going through his mind. After what felt like forever Hiccup broke the silence with a sigh "I was… I was really hurt by that Merida" he said his face showing sadness "You were the only friend I've ever had and I was really sad what you said to me that day. I was all alone with no one to talk to or rely on. It's a time that I don't like reliving so much" he said sadly.
Merida lowered her head and gripped the basket in her hand tightly, she felt hurt but she knows that Hiccup was feeling more hurt than her. The events of that day happened 3 years ago but was still fresh to her, the angry looks from everyone, the Chief's disapproval face and the hurt expression Hiccup had when she told him off, it was impossible to forget. Merida had hope that they could go back to how they used to be, but she should have known he would feel that way, she probably hurt Hiccup more than anyone else "Ah understand" she starts walking up ahead and pass by him thinking that she should leave him alone but was caught by surprise when he called her name.
"Merida"
Merida stopped walking but she didn't turn around, not wanting to see his hurt expression. "Yeah?" She asked nervously.
"I can't forget what happened and what you did but that was all 3 years ago… so I forgive you"
As soon as he said those words Merida eyes widen wondering if what she heard was correct, she didn't turn around feeling nervous and scared that she might have heard wrong.
"Really?" she asked unsure.
"Really" he replied with no hesitation.
"So are we… Are we friends again?"
"Yes"
Merida hesitated, but turned to face Hiccup. She sees no anger or sadness on his face only a sincere smile and his eyes holding no lies to what he said. Merida placed the basket down and walked toward him, making Hiccup feel nervous and confuse to her approach. When she was in front of him, she held up her right hand to him and look him straight in his eyes, Hiccup understood her action and held up his left hand. He grab her forearm and gave a small grip, Merida did the same and returned it with her own grip. Forest green and Cerulean blue eyes meet never breaking contact for even a second, neither of them let go of each other's forearm as if a silent pact was being made between the two teens that needed no words to be said.
"Now and forever" smiled Merida.
Hiccup smiled "Now and forever"
With one final grip from each other, Hiccup and Merida let go and continued walking in silence but both feeling less awkward than before. When they arrive at the village, Hiccup turned to head to the smithy but was caught surprise by Merida asking if she could come along with him, Hiccup simply smiled and gladly let her come.
Once they were at the forge Hiccup put on his apron and began working while Merida stood by and watch him from a safe distance. After making a few minor adjustments to the saddle and handmade fin Hiccup began making a belt of leather with a connected cord that will help him stay on the saddle, when he was done he put on the belt and hooked the cord to the saddle and was glad that it work how he imagine. Hiccup showed it to Merida to see what she thinks, Merida looked at the cord and gave a playful smile and told him that hopefully he'll stay dry this time which made him rolled his eyes for her comment but his still smiled. Hiccup and Merida clean up the shop and hid anything that could connected to Toothless. When they were done both teens exit the smithy and agreed to meet up tomorrow early at the cove before dragon training. Hiccup and Merida waved goodnight to each other and left in different directions to their home both feeling happy to be in good terms with each other and excited for tomorrow to come.
Unknown to them a certain Viking girl has been watching them from a safe distance the moment they entered the smithy and watched as they parted ways from each other, leaving her with many, many questions.
"I am SUPER HAPPY that I was able to post this chapter after SO LONG, I hope you all liked how I got Hiccup and Merida to be friends again cause it was not easy to come up with this scene between them. Now I have good news my little sister got herself a new laptop and gave me her old one, so now I don't have to go to the library to write my fanfic stories but that doesn't mean that I'll be posting new chapters once a week or once a month. I will write and post new chapters when I can, also I don't have internet right now I'm using my friend's internet and I sometimes have to go to Burger King to use the Wifi.
THANK YOU ALL for still staying with this fanfic and PLEASE leave a review cause right now I need to hear (or in this case read) what you all think of this story and this chapter so I can get inspired to write the next chapter. And now that you know that I live in Puerto Rico those of you who speak Spanish; Gracias por sus apoyo y pueden comentar o preguntarme cualquier cosa relacionado con la historai"
"SEE YOU SOON"
