I am so sorry about how long it's taken me to update and I'm really sorry if you guys have lost interest in my story now, but I've had loads of personal stuff going on lately and I also have mocks coming up which I should be revising for, but I wanted to update. Anyway thanks to all the name suggestions that I had, and thanks to the guest who last reviewed giving me the idea about Jonny going to break the news, I hadn't actually thought about that. I have also decided to go with the name they suggested, and I think someone else did as well of Freya, because I loved the Jac/Freya episodes and it's also a really cute name. I might not get to write about the breaking the news bit, because I have already half written this and wouldn't totally fit in, but I should be in the next chapter. Also, sorry for such a long note, but I think I've covered everything... :) xx Oh actually, I also wanted to put out that I have nothing against any of the names that they suggest, but don't use.
"What about Rose?" Jonny suggested.
"No, defiantly Rose, I'm not naming my daughter after any form of plant," Jac told him.
"Well that rules out Daisy... and Lily," Jonny said with a smiled, causing Jac to raise an eyebrow at him.
"How about Elizabeth," she suggested.
"I don't really think she looks like an Elizabeth," Jonny replied, peering over to the incubator, where their little girl lay, from where he was sat.
"Well then, what does she look like?" Jac asked, slightly annoyed as she hadn't been able to get a proper look because her stitches would pull if she moved too much.
"I'm not sure really. Maybe a Natasha?"
"No way, that is not her name," Jac sighed. She looked up at the door. "We can carry on with this later, looks like we have some visitors," Jac said, which caused Jac to look up at the door, where Mo had just bustled through the door, followed by Elliot and Serena. Tom also came through a few moments later to check on the still nameless girl.
Mo dumped the array of presents, cards and balloons, which Jac guessed had been bought in 5 minutes, as they were ones she recognized from being in the shop at reception, on the small table at the end of Jac's bed, before pulling Jonny into a hug.
"Congratulations you too," Mo said, after the long hug.
"How did you know that I had had her?" Jac asked.
"Well, obviously Hanssen had to be notified that you would be needed time off, so Zoe rang him and explained the situation, who then told Serena so she could come and check that you were alright. And Serena came up to Darwin and told me and Elliot because she thought that it would be good to have some support," Mo explained, while looking down at their little girl, not really interested in what she was saying.
"Nice to see Hanssen could be bothered to come down then," Jac muttered, because, although she had nothing against Serena and thought she was actually a very nice woman, she believed it would have been more polite for him himself to come down instead of sending someone else to do it.
Serena obviously heard her, as she smirked and nodded, "that's just him for you though; you know what he's like."
It was Jac's turn to agree, and realised how much work he must have to do.
"So anyway," Elliot started. "How are you feeling?" He and Jac were close, maybe not as close as her and Sam, or Sacha, but they had known each other for a fair few years and he was much like a father figure in her life, and he hated seeing her hurt, or upset.
"I'm fine," she told him, although not very reassuringly.
"Jac, I have known you for many years now, you don't think I've realised when you're not alright," he said, with sympathy running through his voice. He had heard that from Jac so many times, and it always made him feel bad whenever she had to lie to make sure people didn't think any less of her.
"I'm just a bit..." she trailed off, not knowing really how to explain what she felt. Everything had just come at once, and he mind hadn't really had to chance to come to terms with much of it. He nodded, understanding that she would need time to be able to get over this.
"You can go and see her if you want," Jac told him, and he made his way over to the small incubator where she lay. He smiled down at her, and he soon got into a conversation with Mo and Jonny about names, Mo coming up with some horrendous suggestions.
Serena stills stood at the end of her bed, because although she and Jac had got along quite well, she still felt out of place. Both Mo and Elliot had known Jonny or Jac for a long time, and seemed very close to them both, but she wasn't.
Jac smiled at her, and Serna smiled back, before asking how she was.
"I don't really know, it's come as so much of a shock to me, I haven't really had long to process it all," Jac told her, while looking over at her little girl, already surrounded by people that love her.
"Do they know...?" Serna stopped, not wanting to sound rude with how she asked, but wanting to make sure that Jac knew she was there if she ever needed a chat.
"Nothing really, they haven't been able to run scans or anything yet... I just..." Jac wasn't able to finish her sentence before she welled up again and a lump formed in her throat.
Serena walked closer to her and gently wrapped her arms around Jac, not wanting to hurt her.
"You know, things may not turn out how you wanted, but you can always make things better with talking. And I know you and Jonny will make great parents to her."
She felt Jac nod, and released her from the hug. She passed her a tissue from the box at the end of her bed, and announced that she was going to leave them to it. "Can't have Malick up on Keller in charge for too long, never a good idea," she said with a smile.
Mo and Elliot agreed that they should also be going, as there was no one running Darwin at the moment and they had only popped down to say a quick hello and congratulations.
"We'll see you later," Jonny said as the turned towards the door.
"Will you not tell anyone yet either, we're not happy with everyone knowing yet," Jac added.
They all promised that they wouldn't let it slip to anyone and left moments before Zoe and Lily walked in.
Lily, as usual had a frown on, as if she was bored of today, and Zoe was looking serious, as if they weren't about to get good news. Jac sat up, so that they had her full attention, and hoped that it wasn't anything bad about her daughter.
"We just wanted to talk to you about the police, and if you would be willing to talk to them about what happened," Zoe told them, which made them both very relieved.
Jac shook her head. "No, I don't. I just want to forget about what happened and move on, I've got much more important things to be doing.
Zoe nodded, understanding, and believed that it may be the best idea and what they needed. However, it didn't seem that way to Lily.
"Jac, you really should talk to the police about what happened, you can't let someone get away with what they have done to you, or your family," she told her.
Jac was about to speak, and Zoe knew how she could get sometimes so decided here would be the best place to interject their conversation.
"Lily, she doesn't have to if she doesn't want to, we can just tell them that she isn't ready to talk to them yet and then we can organise your scans," she said, aiming the last bit towards Jac, who nodded in agreement.
"She hasn't even been for scans yet? Why isn't she on a spinal board, she could be doing more damage." Lily then turned to Jac and carried on. "You do realise that you could be doing lots more damage to yourself."
"Yes, I am aware, but I chose not to be strapped to a spinal board."
"Why would you choose to do that? That's so stupid."
Again Zoe went to interject the conversation, but Jonny beat her too it.
"You can't talk to her like that, what's your problem."
Lily was about to answer, but Zoe realised that this wasn't good for her patient, or anyone in fact, so stopped it there. "Right, Lily, you cannot talk to patients like that, it's their own decision, and she has obviously chosen it for a reason, so respect that. You have to understand you cannot go and have an argument with a patient over something they are allowed to choose. I want you to go and book her in for a full body CT please, and when you have grown up, you are to come and apologise to Jac."
Lily looked confused. 2Booking scans is a nurse's job though" she said.
"And I'm asking you to do it. If you can't do something that a nurse does because it's 'beneath you' then you can leave for the day and come back when you realise that here we are a team and we are to help each other out."
Lily sighed and walked out of resus without giving Zoe an answer. She walked over to the phone that Robyn had just put down. She noticed that Lily looked annoyed, and asked her if everything was alright.
"Not really, that patient in resus is being ridiculous; she told the paramedics that she didn't want to be put on a spinal board when they brought her in."
"You can't say that about patients."
"Well I told the patient that I thought it was stupid, and Zoe sent me to arrange a scan for her."
"Well, you should think about what you say before you say them then shouldn't you. Especially if you don't know the reasons for their choice."
Robyn walked off to go and see a patient and Lilly picked up the phone. She noticed Sam walk past in the direction of resus, along with Sacha and a little boy, who, she guessed, was his son. All three walked into resus, where they saw Zoe and Tom talking to Jac and Jonny about their daughter and what the best option was for them to do.
Sam and Sacha waited by the door, and Sacha had to pick Daniel up to stop him running over to Jac. They wanted to give them some privacy while they were talking about her daughter, and they assumed that if it was good news then they would be told pretty soon. However, that thought left them when they saw Jonny pull his hand away from Jac's and walked away from the bed and over to the doors where the two were stood. He pushed past them and opened the doors forcefully, causing them to swing back violently and almost hit Sam and Sacha. They watched as her walked out of sight and then looked over at Jac who was also watching where he had just walked away. She looked back up at Zoe and Tom and they carried on talking. Tears started to roll down Jac's face, and Tom handed her a tissue. They both excused themselves to give time for Jac to think and also left resus.
Sam and Sacha looked at each other, and Sacha also left resus with Daniel, going to find Jonny and see if they could get him to talk. From the look they had shared, both thought the same thing and Sam walked over to the bed Jac was lead in.
Sam smiled, although she didn't really know why, because it was very clear that this wasn't a topic for smiling about. Jac looked at her and burst into tears again. Sam sat on the bed carefully and wrapped and arm around her shoulders.
They were close and the gesture meant more than words could. Sam didn't expect Jac to pour out everything that they had been told, she wasn't like that, neither of them were. And Jac knew she wouldn't be expected to, although she wanted to. Sam was her closest friends and she knew she would need help to get through this, as would Jonny.
Jac looked up at Sam, and Sam looked over at the little girl.
"You know, we haven't even got a name yet, how bad is that. We were arguing over what to call her. Through all of this, we are going to have to make so many hard decisions and we couldn't even make the easiest one we are going to get. I am so not cut out to be a parent."
"Jac come on, you are going to make a great parent. You know what it feels like to be let down by a parent and you won't be able to do anything like that. Remember when we were younger and we used to talk about how we would never do anything like our parents had, how we would never get a little thing get in the way of what we wanted and how we would never give up. How we would stick together through anything and that's what I'm going to do. I'll be here whenever you need me, for whatever you need; I don't need to tell you that."
Jac shook her head. "I'm just so scared," she admitted. "What they told us... and know Jonny's walked off."
"It's alright to be sacred, but you have so many people to help you, and Jonny's just worried. I bet if you could walk, you would have done the exact same thing. He's angry and scared and just wants some time to think."
She felt Jac nod, before she turned to look at the small girl. "You know what I think she's called, Freya."
Jac thought about the name, of course she loved the name, and she thought it was perfect. "Yeah, Freya, I'll have to see what Jonny says, but I think it's perfect."
Sam smiled, glad she had been able to help and they both sat there thinking, before the door opened and Jonny walked through. Sam excused herself to give the two sometime alone to talk things over and het their heads around what was happening and what they were going to do about it.
"I'm really sorry," Jac said, which caused Jonny to frown
"Why are you sorry?" he asked
"Because if I hadn't been in that stupid crash then thins wouldn't have worked out like this and she would be alright."
"This isn't your fault and you can't blame yourself for what's happened. And now it's my turn to say sorry. I'm sorry."
"For?" she asked
"Walking off. I was just angry and upset and then I realised I was being an idiot and you would feel the same and we are in this together."
He looked at Jac, waiting for her to say something. He watched her as she smiled and then she said simply, "I love you, you big idiot."
He laughed and replied, "I love you as well."
"Oh and before I forget, Sam suggested a name which I think is perfect, but I had to run it by you before I could confirm it."
"Okay, as long as it's not a plant," he grinned.
"Would I ever suggest such a thing? And say it was perfect? No, exactly. She suggested Freya."
He looked over at their daughter and nodded, that was defiantly what she looked like. She was a Freya.
"You're right, it is perfect, and it suits her way better than Natasha."
"Good, well then, now all we have to decide is Naylor or Maconie."
"Maconie, defiantly."
"I think she looks like a Naylor, plus, I'm her mother so she should have my name."
"Well," Jonny started, taking a deep breath. "What if you were a Maconie?"
He watched as Jac frowned, wondering if she was right in what she thought he was asking her. He decided to help her on the idea and got down on one knee. He pulled out a small velvet box from his jacket pocket.
"Jacqueline Naylor," he started before he was interrupted by Jac.
"It's Jac."
"Okay then, Jac Naylor. I love you so much, you are beautiful and clever and funny, and absolutely in every way. We have Freya now, our little perfect, amazing girl who w=is already so much like her mum," he paused opening the box, before carrying on. "We've had our up's and down's and many more than our fair share of arguments, but we have managed to get through so much together and I would do anything for you. So, would you do the honour of marrying me?"
Jac looked at him and didn't say anything; she just sat there with a blank expression on her face. Jonny felt slightly embarrassed and was about to get up before Jac smiled and nodded. He stood up and hugged her gently, careful not to pull on her stitches. He slipped the ring on her finger and she admired it.
"It must have cost you a fortune," she said
"Actually it was my grandmothers," he told her.
This made her smile even more and they both sat together, although happy, worried about the future of their daughter.
I did an extra long chapter for you all because it's been so long and also with the Janny fluff at the end, I needed something to cheer me up after last night's episode, so sorry if it seems really unrealistic or anything. Please review, and apologise for any mistakes :) xx
