"Wake up Elena." Klaus' panic ridden voice echoed in the quiet room. He attempted to shake her, hoping that she would miraculously waken from her death. His hopes were dashed as her head lulled to the side, her dead eyes wide and…black.
He tried to focus on that fact, rather than the fact that she was indeed dead. Getting his head back on straight, he quickly dressed himself.
As if to mess with his already fragile psyche, Elijah showed up. The elder brother stood in the door way not really believing what his superior hearing was telling him because if he were to, that would mean he failed.
Klaus' composure regained, he picked up the limp Elena and wrapped her naked body in the bed sheet.
"Call Bonnie." Klaus ordered his stunned brother as he carried her downstairs.
Breaking from his stupor Elijah reached into his pants pocket and retrieved his phone. Hesitantly he looked for the witch's number and pressed send. Seconds ticked by and her panicked voice echoed in his ear.
"Did you find her?" Her tone was hopeful.
Elijah's head dipped minutely. He failed not only Elena but Bonnie as well. The witch was surely not going to forgive him, especially if she found out what activities he partook in with the spelled Elena. No, surely he was going to hell not that he was already destined for it anyway.
"I did, but…" He couldn't seem to finish; the words were lodged in his throat and wouldn't budge. He swallowed thickly.
"But…" She asked hesitantly.
Silence stretched for what seemed like an eternity.
"She's dead."
The only thing that could be heard was the slight buzzing of the phone. As moments ticked by, Elijah could hear the tell tale signs of crying.
"Where is she?" Bonnie sobbed out.
Elijah sighed.
"She is at Klaus'."
The young witch cleared her throat, "I'll be right over." Her tone was still laced with sadness but it took on a determined tint. With that said the line went dead.
Within twenty minutes the witch was at the Mikaelson compound looking over her dead friend. Through the sadness Bonnie could only see one thing out of place; the onyx orbs staring out of the place chocolate ones used to be.
"Do you find this strange?" Bonnie motioned for Elijah to look.
The older Originals face scrunched in confusion. He had never seen this type of death nor had he ever seen those types of eyes. Even vampires retained their natural human eye color so why did her eyes turn such an unnatural color?
Thinking back he remembered that her eyes turned the same color when they met up. What was the connection? He wracked his brain.
"May I see the spell that you placed on her?" He asked in his gentlemanly tone.
Bonnie pulled the book from her messenger bag and handed it to the Original.
His fingers deftly found the bookmarked page and carefully read through the passage. His eyes honed in on the smaller script at the bottom of the page. Be warned this spell does not yield to your wishes; it merely does as it pleases. Effects of spell may include, loss of inhibitions, divulging in inner most secrets, physical changes and possibly death.
He mulled the new information over. Her sleeping with him was most definitely a loss of inhibition, her eyes were a physical change, and she obviously died. But why would these be effects? Was there some greater purpose? If it were a protection spell why would death be a side effect unless…
Elijah's eyes widened, it couldn't be.
He shut the book with a thud.
"Well…" Bonnie prodded.
Klaus, who had been off in the corner of the room perked up.
"Well," Elijah began, "it truly did protect her. That is if I am correct in my assumption."
Bonnie looked from the dead Elena to Elijah. "Are you crazy?! She's dead, how in the world is that protecting her?"
Elijah held up a hand halting any further yelling from the witch. "She is changing." He simply stated.
Once again Bonnie looked to her best friend, "Into what?"
The suited man sighed. "Into something that won't die so easily."
"What does that mean?" she asked exasperatedly. This was her best friend, what had she done to her? Bonnie felt guilt sweep her being; she had suggested casting the spell and Elena had trusted her enough to go along with it. Everything that happened was her fault.
"I'm not exactly sure what she will become but she will come back Bonnie. Do not worry yourself too much." Elijah soothed, laying a hand on the girls shoulder.
She nodded but couldn't help the self-blaming guilt.
Klaus had once again resumed his position in the corner of the room to think what his elder brother had said.
So she will become something that won't die easily huh? Obviously she won't be a vampire nor a werewolf the black eyes don't match either.
Though he should have been upset that his blood source had been lost, he wasn't as concerned as he should have been. No, his concern lay more in the looming question of what would become of the doppelganger who managed to gain his attention. True, he had fallen for a doppelganger once before but this new one was entirely different from her predecessor. Elena Gilbert was fiery and full of life while Tatia had been timid. Somewhere along the way between killing her family and making her life a living hell he had fallen for her but instead of admitting that he had fallen for yet another Petrova he focused all his attention on Caroline. The blond vampire wasn't bad, he had actually grown to like her but Elena stayed in the back of his mind and when he found her in the shower he couldn't help himself.
Now he was facing the possibilities of what she may become.
A gasp and fluttering heartbeat pulled him from his revere.
Elena shot up off the couch she had been laid on clutching the sheet that wrapped around her body.
How long had he been thinking?
Elena faced Bonnie, her obsidian eyes piercing the witch's coffee ones.
"What happened?" Elena queried, startling the Bennett witch.
In favor of answering Bonnie pulled her friend in for a hug. The newly transformed girl hugged back.
"What's the deal Bon? Not that I'm knocking the hugs and all but your acting like you haven't seen me in forever." The witch's grip tightened.
"You died." Bonnie stated meekly.
"I did?!" Elena exclaimed.
The witch pulled back and nodded, "Do you feel any different?" She asked, effectively changing the subject.
Elena thought about it for a minute, "Nope same old same, except I'm not hungry though I think I should be, especially after…"Elena cut off, her embarrassment increasing when she thought about what the past two days entailed.
"After?" Klaus stepped from his corner suddenly curious as to why the girl had stopped speaking.
"Well, after sleeping with all the Originals and my ex and his brother. Not to mention giving my friends boyfriend and blow job and making out with another ex." Elena explained in a rush trying to push through the judgmental glare Bonnie was giving her.
"Is that true Elijah?" Klaus asked in an irritated manner.
Elijah, for the first time in a long time, looked ashamed.
"It wasn't his fault." Elena interjected. "It sort of took over me and the person I was around. You should know Klaus." She said pointing in his direction.
"Yeah, well I actually care about you." Klaus stated without thinking.
Silence ensued following the confession.
Elena was too busy thinking about the fact that Klaus had feelings for her. Bonnie was thinking about how things had come to this. Elijah couldn't believe his brother had admitted such things out loud, never mind the fact that he said it in front of people other than Elena, and Klaus was thinking about how big of a dumbass he was.
Elena giggled which turned into outright laughter.
Klaus crossed his arms over his chest, "What pray tell is so funny." His posture screamed defensive.
"I've kind of had a thing for you too Klaus but it was just too ludicrous to act on since you were trying to kill me and everyone I love. The spell helped me see how it could be to be with you and I have to say I like what I found." At her confession Klaus' shoulders dropped from their tense position.
"Is that so?" He asked smugly. "So you just had to fuck everyone else to see that?"
She bristled a bit at his question, something he was expecting her to do.
"In any case, would you like to see where it goes between us? Maybe along the way we will figure out what exactly you've become." He moved closer to the couch awaiting her answer.
Standing up and still griping the sheet, she walked in front of the hybrid she once considered to be scary and heartless.
"I'd like that." She replied with a soft smile.
Klaus leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on her lips, a far cry from his earlier kisses.
Bonnie, who at some point had walked next to Elijah, was thoroughly confused. "Do you feel like you've missed something?" The elder Original nodded, "Well, at least Elena is protected now." He mused.
"Maybe that was the point of the spell this entire time." Bonnie thought aloud. Once again he nodded and they left the two to their own devices.
Xxx
They never figured out exactly what happened to Elena. All they knew was that she no longer aged, no longer ate, but she was still the same Elena so in the end it really didn't matter.
A/N. I know this probably isn't the ending that everyone wanted but I was running low on inspiration for this fic. All's well that ends well, hope you enjoyed!
