Chapter 7

Russell awoke to the sound of his daughter screaming. He hopped out of bed and raced to the noise. The muffled screams became more audible.

"You can't fucking take my daughter away!" He heard something crashing against the floor. "She's mine! I support her, I take care of her when she's sick. I make sure she's loved. You wouldn't even be a part of her life if it weren't for me!" It was clear Quinn was in tears.

"You work most of time. When you can't take care of her I do. You're not her only parent!" He recognized the voice as Noah's. He finally saw the mess that was the down stairs. "It makes sense, she'll have a little brother, and a stay at home parent and she'll be in a home where both parents love each other."

"Fuck you Noah," Russell found them in the kitchen. "You live in my house, with no real job, I pay for everything Beth has. I here for everything. You are not taking her away from me to go live with some tramp you knocked up."

"You were some tramp I knocked up!" Russell finally intervened.

"What's going on here?"

"He's trying to take Beth from me." Quinn immediately answered.

"I'm not trying to do anything, we are both Beth's parents." They started yelling again but Russell halted it.

"Do I have to remind you two that you have a 4 year sleeping upstairs?" Quinn and Puck looked like defeated children. "Now, Both of you are lucky Beth didn't wake up. Now since both of you can seem to be adults about this I'm going to negotiate all of this." They were standing as far from each other as possible. Russell resisted the urge to comfort his daughter who looked like she was ready to kill Puck.

"Puckerman," Russell said in his military voice. "Explain to what's going on calmly."

"My girl Clare is pregnant with my son. I love her. I don't want to have to choose between my kids. I want Beth to come live with me in LA. My dad has an auto shop up there. Its good money, I can pick my hours and Beth will always be close to family."

"Except for her mother? She'll be half on the whole other coast." Quinn said angrily.

"Quinn," Russell reprimanded.

"It's better for her."

"You two agreed when Quinn found out she was pregnant that you two would take care her, together. You both agreed to that, you can't take her anywhere where only one of you will take care of her. You love her just as much as the other does. You can't take her somewhere where she's going to end just seeing one side of her family. That's not fair to Quinn."

Puck looked at Russell challenging. "You think I'll actually choose between my kids."

"Quinn has never made you choose. She lets you do whatever. You both get along. You can work it out."

"You are not taking Beth away from me." Quinn said.

"And you're not keeping her away from me." Puck said through her teeth. "We have joint custody of Beth so we both decide what happens to her but I am taking Beth with me. If I have to I will file for full custody."

"Do you really want to fucking do this with a divorce lawyer? I will bury you." Quinn looked homicidal. "You are not getting Beth and I'm not putting Beth through this is she doesn't have to be put through this you ass. I am her mother. I went through 36 hours of labor with her. You barely even made it to the hospital. When you're here, you're here but that's rare. You go off for months with seeing her sometimes. You're a great dad when you're here but you're gone to be with that girl every other week. You made your choice awhile go, now you get to live with it dick face."

"Quinn," Russell said one last time.

"Noah, you seemed to like you've made up your mind and unfortunately I'm not letting you take Beth from the home she's used too. You can't take her without a lawyer."

Noah clenched his fist. "I'll be back for my daughter." He said before leaving. She heard the door slam and she fell to the knees in tears. His daughter was broken.

"He's going to take her away from me." Quinn said. "I won't be able to live without her. She's my baby." Her father slipped down next to her cuddling his daughter to him. "I'm the best lawyer. This side of coast and I can't defend myself. If I were defending him, he would win. What if he finds someone better than me?"

"Don't even think about that. You'll figure it out. You supported that ass wipe for almost 5 years."

"He knows what to look for in a lawyer because of me."

"He can't afford a lawyer as good as you."

"He might not have to… I know a bunch of lawyer who want to stick to me for free." Quinn said. "I don't want to lose her daddy, I can't live without her daddy."

"Quinn, you have to calm down. We'll call a lawyer and you won't lose baby. You're going to put that asshole in his place."

"I have to see Beth." She got up shaking her father off and ran to her daughter's room. She saw Beth sleeping soundly. She lied down next Beth, holding Beth closely. Beth stirred.

"Mommy,"

"It's okay, sweetie. Go back to sleep." Quinn said. Beth scrunched up her nose.

"You smell mommy." She looked down to see that she was wearing the clothes she came from Reece's in. She probably smelled like sex, sweat and a hospital.

"I should go take a Bath." She said feigning a smile.

"No, it's okay mommy. I want you to stay here." Beth wrapped her arms around Quinn's neck and fell back to sleep. She couldn't lose her daughter. It wasn't an option.

Quinn was torn away from her work by a knock. She looked up to see Reece knocking on her door. She released a weak smile.

"Hey there beautiful, you don't seem too happy to see me." Reece said looking a little hurt. "I didn't hear from you last night."

Quinn felt like an ass. It must have seemed like she was just trying to make Reece another notch on her bed post. "My kid had a fever last night. I was at the hospital most of the night and I got home and had to deal with an issue. I swear I wasn't blowing you off." It sound like a lame excuse. "I feel like an ass. I even forgot about lunch. Can we do dinner tonight instead? I can't stay, I have to take care of my god daughter tonight."

"Can't tonight, it's my night with Ty." Reece said. "I had a hunch you forgot so I got some carry out. I hope you like Mexican." She raised the bag of food

"Of course, I do. Sit down," Quinn said. Reece sat across from Quinn put the bag of food down. She opened it.

"You look gorgeous by the way. Do you always look this amazing for work?" Quinn look down at her outfit. She didn't think about what she wore.

"Not as amazing as you do." Quinn said. "I'm sorry again for last night. I should have called."

"Already forgotten," Reece opened the containers and Quinn realized how hungry she was. She hadn't eaten since her dinner with Reece. She took her a plate from the bag along with a fork. She emptied food on her plate and began eating.

"God, I'm hungry. I forgot to eat this morning. Thank you so much." Quinn smiled at the woman in front of her. "How was your day by the way?" Reece sighed.

"I have a bitchy client. She dropped a bomb a few days ago that I basically have to clean up. She's very difficult but she pays my bills. One of my more famous clients."

"Can I ask who it is?" Quinn said with a smile.

"Kitty Wilde," She almost coughed up her food. "Something wrong?"

"Nothing really, she's just hates my guts and I'm not a huge fan of hers either."

Reece looked intrigued. "Why is that?"

"I used to date her fiancée. I dated Rachel Berry before she was famous." Quinn said as if it wasn't a big deal. Reece looked at her in disbelief.

"I can't believe you used to date Rachel. She's like the most desired woman on the planet right now. Everybody wants their hands on that woman and you had her."

"Rachel wanted Kitty not me." Reece looked at her sympathetically.

"She's stupid then because you are much sexier than Kitty Wilde." Quinn smiled. "I mean you in that dress last night, I couldn't keep my eyes off of you or my hands to myself." Quinn smiled. "Hell, the only thing keeping my hands off of you is this desk." Quinn smiled weakly at the admission. Having someone to take care of her needs would be a relief.

"Maybe we should continue our activities on tomorrow, my dad can babysit and I can actually stay the night, you know for breakfast."

"I guess that sounds good. I would love that but we watch a movie first just so I feel like this is just a sexual thing." Quinn smiled. She knew Brittany and her dad were just being over protective. This girl had made her feel better in just one visit." Quinn heard a knock on her door.

"Come in," Quinn said still indulging in the food.

"You asked to see me Ms. Fabray."

"Do I need to leave and give you some privacy?" Reece asked.

"Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow, thank you for the food." She smiled.

"I'll leave the food." Reece grabbed her purse and left. Quinn looked at the lawyer.

"You asked for my assistance in a case?" He opened the file and showed her. "Your case, you want me to be your lawyer in a custody battle." The male lawyer stood against the wall. She looked at him defeated. "I think it's stupid that you're even going through this and paying me for it." He said.

"I didn't know what else to do and I can afford your fees."

"I know, that's why I took the liberty of getting you temporary custody of one Bethany Judith Puckerman." He said. "You can't say I never did anything nice for you. She could have kissed the blonde lawyer.

"Thank you Sam." She said.

"The only reason a judge granted it was because Noah Puckerman address is listed as your home address, and you pay for it. Unfortunately, once that changes, it will be more difficult for it stay that was. You appear to be the primary provider for your daughter. I'll take you case, for free." Quinn looked at him incredulously. "I prefer the Quinn Fabray, I owe you one." He said. "A favor from you is so much better than money."

"But only if you win. If I lose my daughter I swear to you I won't be any use to you." Quinn said. "What are you going to say in my place?" She said. Sam sat down across from her crossing his legs confidently.

"You have provided for the father and daughter for more than 5 years of his life. The court still usually side with the mothers. You make more money, you have flexible hours, you're available more often and you make a pretty victim. He just comes and says he's taking your daughter basically saying that you're an unfit parent when he was the one living on your dime. You have this one in the bag."

"You're too cocky. You don't know what his side will say."

"What can he say, Quinn? You work too much? That you neglect your child? You spend more time with your daughter than he does."

"Court might side with him because of his girlfriend and depending on the judge my sexual orientation might end up being an issue."

"We live in a new world Quinn, Gays and Lesbian raise children all the time and win custody battle. I mean just last year a gay man in Maine won custody of his thirteen year old son."

"The mother was a druggie." Quinn reminded him.

"Details, sexual orientation isn't a reason to deny custody. It's illegal."

"Lots of things are illegal Evans, but a judge will make this decision and person prejudice and run in case. Puck is offering a straight stable home with a stay at home mom and siblings. I'm offer a home as a working Lesbian single mother. I can support her but is that in her best interest? These are questions you have to ask."

"Well, regardless I'll work your case. I need to know everything about Noah Puckerman as well as you Ms. Fabray." He offered his hand to her. She shook his hand.

"You lose this case and I'll make your life hell."

"It's an open and closed case Ms. Fabray and with you and me working together, we will definitely win."

"You're cockiness is going to make me slap you."

Rachel ran on her in house treadmill blasting music in her ears. Two hours of cardio then thirty minutes of muscle. She worked hard for her body and she wasn't going to let herself go just because she was a little depressed. She had an image to uphold. It usually was her in her thoughts. Her last few weeks on Wicked were coming up. She was already receiving fan mail about how they would miss her. Rumors that she was leaving Broadway were not confirmed but she knew she was leaving. Broadway had lost its flare. She needed to move on and her agent thought the best thing for her was to move on to movies. She had already been offered movie roles alongside huge stars. She had always loved Broadway and she always would but she felt it wasn't the place for her.

She was knocked out her thoughts by a box being placed in front of her. She was startled by the sudden intrusion and stopped the machine and her iPod. She looked up to see Kitty. She opened the box and saw a turquoise jewel necklace lied in the box.

"We've been fighting a lot and I know that's a lot to do with me pressuring you. Like I always do." Kitty said over the head of the machine. "I'm tired of fighting. I want to marry you and I know that we can do that without us Seeing Eye to eye."

"What brought about this sudden change of heart?"

"I love you Rachel." Kitty said. "I don't want to lose you because I'm too controlling. I want us to share a bed again. I want us to be able to stay in a room without fighting. I want us to be able to go out on a date and not just to keep up appearance. Screw the press, I want my fiancée back." Kitty smiled at her Rachel. "I feel like I'm losing you every second and it's killing me."

"Kitty I,"

"No Rachel, just listen, I don't want to fight. I just want it to be like when we first got together." Kitty looked like she was sincerely trying. Rachel felt bad but she knew that this was a one sided love just like her love with Quinn.

"Alright Kitty," Rachel said stepping down from her treadmill becoming eye level with Kitty. "We'll work on us." Rachel said. "I sick of fighting too."

"Good," Kitty said. "I have a meeting with my agent in an hour, so I'll be home as 7 and we can go to dinner together." Kitty gave Rachel a light peck on the lips before leaving. Rachel couldn't help but think that it was weird. Kitty never apologized, never gave gifts, and never did anything remotely sweet. She ignored it but she had to be decent.

Rachel thought about it before she heard her phone going off. Rachel reached for it on the treadmill. "Rachel speaking,"

"I finally got Jesse in for bed. She's been sleep for all of 2 hours." She knew immediately it was Santana. "Quinn knows all the tricks. I could kiss that girl." Santana said.

"So I'm guessing you and Brittany finally got a good night's sleep?"

"Yes, you know Quinn might be a self-important witch sometimes but she is a god send." Santana seemed less on edge then she had been since she left the hospital. "Brittany and I even got a full night's sleep."

"You sound like you're in love. Brittany should be on her guard."

"No, she has nothing to worry about, Brittany knows how to take care of her girls." Santana laughed. "You should come over for dinner tonight. Quinn's babysitting."

"I can't. I promised I'd have dinner with Kitty tonight."

"Alone," Santana questioned with Sarcasm.

"She wants to renew our relationship."

"10 bucks, she stand you up like last time."

"She probably will like last time." Rachel said. "I think I'll keep my money. She was just too nice. It was way too weird."

"If she stands you up, come over, I hate when you have dinner alone." Santana was always worrying about her. "When are you going to leave that bitch?"

"She's my fiancée Santana."

"She's a bitch, fiancée or not. Can you find someone that's not irritating?"

"Santana, do we have to go through this every few months?" Rachel asked but she knew that Santana was right. She probably will get stood up.

"Yeah until you leave that bitch. She's like an emotional crutch. I saw what she did last week in the media. I know that pissed you off. You would have a more successful career if you were single anyway."

"Santana,"

"Sweetie, will you relax?" Santana said. "No one wants you to marry Kitty. I don't even think that you want to marry her, you've been postponing even setting a date since the proposal."

"Santana, drop it,"

"Fine, but one day we're going to have a serious conversation about this and you're going to listen to me." Rachel walked out the exercise room and went to the kitchen for a bottle of water.

"So, did you hear? Quinn has a girlfriend." Rachel's heart almost stopped. She found a bottle of water and began gulping it down

"A girlfriend?" She said as if she didn't care. She put the bottle one on the counter.

"Well Britt says not officially but they are making it there."

"So that's why she looked so hot last night." Rachel said without really thinking.

"You saw her last night too?" Santana questioned. Rachel didn't want to disclose that to Santana but she had let it slip.

"Yeah, I mean Beth was sick and she asked me to sing her a lullaby, I got there and she was a sleep." Rachel said.

"So you just left afterward?"

"No, I had some water and we talked. That's it."

"Without insulting each other?"

"We've decided to be civil. You know friends."

"And you're just tell me now?"

"You're busy with Jess, I didn't think it was important." Rachel went to her couch and lounged on it. "What's the matter with it anyway? We used to get along. We decided to get over everything that happened in the past."

"You can't be friend with an ex?"

"You're friends with like three of yours." Rachel said.

"Let me correct that, you can't be friends with an ex that you still have feelings for." There it was. Santana said it. She could have known her bestfriend figured it out. Why she was always for keen on making sure that they were together. "Did I strike a chord?"

"You're way off," Rachel said as confidentially as she could. She tried to act like it was a lie. "I'm not in love with Quinn."

"Who said anything about love? I'm just talking about feelings." There was an obvious smugness in Santana's voice. "So you don't just want back into her pants?"

"Santana can we just drop it. I don't have feelings for Quinn. She's a friend, just a friend." Rachel wasn't going to have this conversation with Rachel. It was bad enough she had to have it with her dad every few months.

"For now, I'll leave it alone but I'm well rested and you know Mama Tana is going to want all the details about everything you're thinking… Everything. So if you get stood tonight you will come here tonight for dinner."

"Aye Aye captain," Rachel said sarcastically. "See you later Santana."
