The Next Day-Afternoon
Flora entered the dining room wearing a short pink nightgown. Her hair was in a messy bun and had dark circles around her eyes.
Looking at the table the brunette saw Helia wearing grey and red sweats. He was eating a sandwich while reading the local newspaper.
Making her way to the table, she took a seat across from the male.
Helia heard her and said. "I bought lunch for you."
Flora nodded, noticing a sandwich on the table. "Thank you. I am starving."
She took it and began to eat.
Helia looked away from the paper and looked at Flora. "One night without sleep and you look like crap."
Finishing the bite that was in her mouth, the teen answered sarcastically. "You sure know how to sweet talk a girl. Helia, please help me with the homework."
"What have you finished so far?" He inquired before finishing up his meal.
"I managed to finish Art, Biology, English and Social Studies." She replied. "I still need help with Maths, Physics, Chemistry and I.T."
Checking his silver watch for a moment, he said. "You have the entire day to finish up the rest of the homework. I am going to school to practice with the basketball and tennis team."
"Oh man." Flora groaned as the male got up. He left before she could say anything else.
Five Hours Later
Helia returned home, sweaty and tired from playing basketball. He went upstairs, thinking. 'I wonder if she finished the homework.'
About to head to her room, he stopped when hearing Flora scream. "WHY CAN'T I FINISH THIS?"
He quickly backed away and headed to the bathroom to take a long shower.
Half an Hour Later
Flora lay on her bed, gently beating her head on the pillow. She had bath earlier and changed into a mini pink shorts with a white blouse. Her hair was combed and caught up in a high ponytail.
"What am I going to do? I only managed to finish I.T since Helia left." She groaned.
Thinking for a moment something came to mind. 'Helia finished everything. All I need to do is borrow his Maths, Physics and Chemistry books.'
Getting out, she crept towards the male's room. Carefully opening the door, she looked to see him lying on the bed wearing only a grey sweatpants.
Closing the door, the room became dark. The only light that was shining into the room was coming from the moon. Feeling around, Flora searched for Helia's school bag.
Walking around the room for a moment, the brunette hit her foot on a stool. Biting her lips to not scream, she thought. 'I should have carried a flashlight with me. Thanks to my night blindness I can't see a thing in a dimly lit place.'
Shaking off the pain, Flora continued to feel around till she found Helia's school bag. Taking out a few books, the teen hoped that these were the correct books.
About to creep out of the room, Flora was surprised when someone grabbed her free hand. Not seeing who it was, the brunette safely assumed it was Helia.
The blue hair male pulled her to the bed and pinned her down. "You are a very noisy cat. What are you doing in my room?"
"I only came to look at your books." Flora replied, softly as she felt her heart raced. She was never so close to Helia before.
Helia smirked. "Or you could have come in here to see me. Anything can happen when two teens are left alone."
The brunette shook her head. "I only came to copy your homework."
"You sure about that Flora?" Helia said with a smirk on his face. "Nobody is here but you and me."
Flora blushed feeling his breath on her face. "I am sure. Your a jerk and I am over someone who treats me like a piece of crap."
"Really now?" Helia raised a brow.
"Yes, I am over you and I am going to find a guy that treats me like a Princess." Flora pouted. "When I find that guy I will forget about you."
Helia saw this and thought. 'She looks cute.'
"Really now?" The blue hair male smirked. "We can put that statement to the test right now."
He brushed his lips gently onto hers. Flora blushed, briefly feeling Helia's lips brush against hers.
"Helia…" Flora felt her heart skip a beat.
"What? Since you are truly over me this kiss won't mean a thing." He added.
"I do like you but…"
Helia began laughing as he moved to sit down on the bed. "I have no plans of being with the likes of you."
Flora became angry as she sat up. "You jerk! What an awful thing to do to somebody."
Throwing the books onto the bed the brunette got up, preparing to leave the room. As soon as she moved, Flora tripped over a bean bag and fell flat on her face.
Helia saw this and asked. "How could you be so blind to not see that bean bag?"
Flora groaned softly as she got up. "That's because I can't see when a place gets too dark."
'She has night blindness.' The blue hair male thought, seeing the female teen carefully moving towards the door.
He reached over to turn on a lamp. Flora was able to see a little better and was managed to find the door.
As she opened it, he mentioned. "I feel bad for you. I can give you my books to copy off of."
"I don't need your pity." The brunette huffed. "I will do fine without your books!"
Standing up, Helia replied. "Good! Close the door on your way out cause I need to sleep."
"Why do you like to trouble me so much?!" Flora yelled, holding onto to the door handle.
Not waiting around to hear his answer, she slammed the door.
Going into her room, Flora took a guitar she had stored inside her closet before sitting on the bed. The musical instrument was white and pink in colour and was bought by Saladin and Nebula as a gift.
Tuning the instrument, she began playing it while singing.
Perfectly by Huckapoo
I like who I am
But I guess you don't
I think that I can
But you think I won't
Amount to anything at all
If you love me
You sure show it strange
Is there anything
That you would want to change?
I can't be your paper doll
I wanna be perfect, but I'm me
I wanna be flawless, but you see
Every little crack, every chip
Every dent, every little mistake
I wanna be perfect just like you
But there's only so much
That a girl can do
When I look in the mirror
It makes sense to me
Perfectly, perfectly
I like worn out shoes
You like high heels and fantasies
But I'm what's real
I guess you could say
The shoe don't fit
Maybe I'm from Venus
You're from Mars
My imperfections are what they are
I guess one of us
Must deal with it
I wanna be perfect, but I'm me
I wanna be flawless, but you see
Every little crack, every chip
Every dent, every little mistake, yeah
I wanna be perfect, just like you
But there's only so much that a girl can do
When I look in the mirror
What I see
Makes sense to me, yeah
Perfectly
Oh perfectly
I try to fit in the mold that you make
But I'm tired of playing this little charade
I wanna be perfect, but I'm me
I wanna be flawless, but you see
Every little crack, every chip
Every dent, every little mistake, yeah
I wanna be perfect, just like you
But there's only so much, that a girl can do
When I look in the mirror
What I see makes sense to me, yeah
Perfectly
As she finished singing it, she whispered. "I can't be perfect."
Hearing someone clapping by the door, Flora looked up to see Helia resting against the door frame. "That wasn't so bad."
"How long have you been standing there?" Flora asked, putting away the instrument.
"Long enough to know that you can sing." He replied, entering the room. "I came to help you with your homework as a way of apologising."
Flora knew she really needed the help.
She took up her Maths, Physics and Chemistry books. Showing him the books, she said."I need help with these three subjects."
"Okay, we will start with Maths first." He stated, before seeing something on Flora's right arm. "You're bleeding."
Looking at her arm, she saw a cut on it. "It's only a small cut."
"Put down the books and come with me." Helia spoke, heading towards the bathroom.
Flora placed the books on the table before following him. Reaching the bathroom she saw him taking out rubbing alcohol, cotton and a Band-Aid.
Taking Flora's arm, Helia washed out the cut first before placing the cotton with the alcohol on it onto her arm. Flora whimpered. "That hurts."
"It's supposed to hurt for a little while." He informed her, focusing on the cut. "How do you know how to play the guitar and sing?"
"I learnt how to play the guitar from your father. I saw him cleaning one a few weeks ago and asked if he could teach me how to play. I still need more lessons though." Flora replied, gazing at her crush. "Singing just comes naturally to me. Dad said that my mother had the voice of an angel so maybe I got my singing ability from her."
Throwing the cotton into the bin, he began placing the Band-Aid onto the brunette's arms. "Why aren't you on the choir? You have a great voice."
Flora held her head down. "I did join the choir when I first came to Red Fountain but had to stop after a while because of my night blindness."
"Care to share?" He wondered, finish putting on the Band-Aid.
As he looked at her face, she answered. "Practice usually ends at seven in the night. Dad would pick me every night before the restaurant got too busy and he had to work later. He suggested that I get a ride home from someone on the Choir since I had problems seeing in the dark from long time. No one could carry home so I was on my own. I convinced myself that I could walk home after practice instead of not going. So one day when Choir was finished I began walking home and was crashing into almost everything in sight since there was barely any street light. By the time I reached home my body ached from crashing into so many things. Not wanting to relive that experience I had to stop."
"Night blindness is resulted from lack of vitamin A." Helia told her. "If you eat things like more carrots, potatoes, red pepper, paprika and mangoes it will help your eye sight."
Flora looked up to face the male. "I have eaten carrots and potatoes till I almost got sick of them. They were of no help."
"You have to eat the carrot raw to get the vitamin. Boiling or using the microwave to heat up the food will suck the nutrients out of it." He informed her. "If you like mangoes and paprika then ask Mom to put it on the grocery list."
"Of course I like eating them. I couldn't afford to buy them every week when Daddy and I were living by ourselves." Flora stated. "I will start eating the carrots raw from now on. Thanks for the advice Helia."
"No problem." He replied, locking eyes with the brunette beauty. "Um… if you want to join back the choir I can walk you home after school. Basketball practice usually finish by seven. "
"You rarely go to practice." Flora pointed out, not wanting to get her hopes up.
"I can start more often. So are you taking my offer or not?" He asked.
"Yes!" Flora wrapped her arms around Helia's neck. Kissing his right cheek, she added. "Thank you Helia. The Choir Director will be so happy to know that I am coming back."
"No problem." He answered, hugging her waist.
Flora felt like time stopped as she and Helia embraced each other for a few minutes in silence. It felt comfortable to the both of them.
Flora looked up as Helia looked down so that they could see each other's face. The elder of the two teens moved his head down preparing to kiss the tan skin female's lips. The younger teen soon moved her head closer so that they could meet each other half way. It only took a few moments before their lips pressed together and both received their first ever kiss.
