Chapter 7
*Natsu's pov*
He made a mistake. All he saw was Lisanna flailing towards him, and there was no time to dodge as she landed on him. The thud effectively knocked the breath out of him, and all he saw was her white hair. His eyes widened when he realized their lips were touching, and by the looks of it, Lisanna was surprised too. Natsu was so shocked he couldn't move, and Lisanna was making no effort to get up. They stared into each other's eyes as the air in the room grew tense, and the temperature plummeted. Gray. He made a mistake. Of course, he realized this way too late. He yanked his head away almost immediately, but he quickly noticed the ice-flakes that were freezing the surfaces of the whole room. His eyes darted to the ice mage to find that the raven's bangs were covering his eyes, but he could see the scowl that Gray usually wore. Lisanna was blushing furiously and looking away nervously.
"I-I a-am so s-sorry, Natsu!" She stuttered.
"What are you doing, you freaking pervert!? This isn't even your house!" Gray yelled at him. Natsu felt his eye twitch. To think he was about to apologize…
"What did you just say?! I'M the pervert!? Please, you can't even keep your clothes on for .2 seconds! You're the only pervert here!" He noticed Gray getting flustered and pissed off as he quickly scoured his thoughts for a response.
"Shut up! It's not like I'm proud of it, squinty eyes, but that's not the point! You shouldn't kiss other people in someone else's house!" Natsu's eyes widened as realization dawned on him.
"Gray, are you-"
"Stop." He raised an eyebrow at that.
"Are you-"
"Stop talking!"
"You seem pretty-"
"Yes! Okay?" Gray spat out.
"What's going on? You guys are doing that telepathic thing again." Lucy interjected.
"What are you talking about, Luce?" Natsu looked at her with furrowed eyebrows.
"You guys always seem to know what the other is thinking; it makes it hard to keep up."
"Oh… Sorry." He muttered and looked away.
"Gray, are you okay? You kinda freaked out when Lisanna fell on-"
"I'm fine, really." Gray reassured her, but he could tell the ice mage was far from okay.
"I've actually been meaning to ask you guys something. Is everything okay? You've been hanging out a lot more lately. Well… At least since Gray got captured." Lisanna asked politely.
*Gray's pov*
He narrowed his cerulean orbs at the petite, curious takeover mage. He didn't even know how to respond. No one knew they were dating, and he still needed to talk everything out with Natsu if they ever got the chance. Saying he was annoyed was a massive understatement. He was pissed. He didn't really know why, but he was.
"Well at first, this idiot wouldn't leave me alone… Then he turned around and tried to leave, so I had to beat some sense into him. We always fight anyways, so it's not like it means anything." He replied icily. He saw the hurt expression cross Natsu's features before it was replaced with indifference. He felt smug. The slayer deserved it, but the indifferent look that Natsu now wore caused a pang in his chest. He made a mistake. It was too late to take it back, but he instantly regretted it.
"Yeah I can't believe I'm still here. I wanted to see if he was okay, but now I could care less." Natsu spat venomously, his eyes shooting daggers at Gray. He felt his body go rigid from the response. It was cold, too cold, for it to have come from the fire mage.
"Jeez guys, can't you get along? You always seem to be closer than you think. I wish you guys would put your differences aside and make up. I'm sure you could be great friends." Lucy stated with a smirk.
"Well, we will be going now. Thanks for letting us stay awhile." Lucy smiled and stood up, heading for the door with Lisanna and Juvia in tow.
"Juvia will see Gray-sama tomorrow!" Juvia shouted lovingly. He nodded in response.
"See you tomorrow, Natsu. I'm really sorry!" Lisanna blushed and leaned up to kiss Natsu's cheek. Gray clenched his fists, and looked away. He heard the door slam, but still he didn't move.
"Gray." He didn't respond. All of a sudden, he was sent flying by a tan fist.
"What the hell?! Leave me alone!" He jerked his head towards Natsu, fuming.
"So you're jealous, huh?" Natsu said with a smug grin.
"I'M NOT JEALOUS!" Natsu just crossed his arms.
"Sure, whatever you say Gray. Look, Lisanna is just a friend. Just like Juvia is your friend, despite her hanging all over you. Yeah, it's annoying, but there's nothing to be jealous about."
"I said I'm not jealous…"
"Then what's wrong?" Natsu asked, exasperated.
"Would you like it if Juvia randomly starting making out with me?!"
"Well she didn't try to make out with me…" Natsu muttered.
"That's not the point! Ya know what?! It doesn't mean anything anyway!" He yelled, frustrated. Wrong move. Natsu's forest green eyes hardened instantly.
"You're right, Gray. This is just another one of our fights. It's not like they mean anything anyway, right?" Natsu asked coldly. Gray stiffened, this wasn't right. Natsu wasn't cold, he was.
"That's not what I-"
"Forget it. This whole thing obviously means nothing, so just forget it."
"No! Natsu, listen-"Natsu turned away, storming towards the door. He reached his hand out, and latched onto the slayer's arm before he could get very far. The pinkette turned around with a glare.
"What?!"
"Okay, I'm sorry! What more do you want from me?!"
"I never asked you to apologize, exhibitionist!"
"Wow, look who got a vocabulary!" He sneered at the pinkette.
"What did ya just say, ice-block?! Ya calling me stupid?!" Natsu stormed up and slammed his forehead into Gray's with a look that could kill.
"You said it, not me!"
"Well if I'm so stupid, then why do I have to save your ass all the time?!"
"Excuse me?! I don't need you to save my ass, I can handle myself!" Natsu met his glare with silence.
"Oh what? Now you have nothing to say?! Whatever, I'm out." And with that he picked up the nearest sweatshirt, threw it on, and stormed out of his apartment.
"Hey! That's m-"He slammed the door, too furious to hear the rest of Natsu's sentence. The cold usually never bothered him, but tonight the wind stung his pale skin. He pulled the hood over his head with a dark aura exuberating from him.
"I don't need you! You or anyone else…" He muttered as he stormed down the street, heading to the only place he felt at ease.
*Natsu's pov*
He silently glared at the door the raven just slammed shut. When would Gray stop running? He honestly didn't know the answer to that question. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. That damn stripper even took his favorite red sweatshirt without noticing. He laughed a little at that. He wished he could see the look on Gray's face when he actually realized whose sweatshirt he was wearing. Natsu didn't know what to do with the raven gone. This was Gray's house, not his! Did Gray want him to get out or stay? He could go back to his own house, or he could stay and wait for Gray to come back. Maybe this whole thing would blow over. He promised the ice mage he would stay so maybe he should. Then again, the ice mage ran off anyways, so maybe it isn't a big deal. He let out another sigh and quickly decided to stay. He made a promise and he was gonna keep it, whether the ice princess liked it or not. He shut the lights off and lay on Gray's bed, instantly falling asleep in the pitch dark apartment.
*Unknown pov*
He observed the teen walking down the street. The teen was wearing a red sweatshirt, which belonged to Fairy Tail's own Natsu Dragneel, in the cold evening air. Natsu was most likely kicked out, which meant that Gray was all alone. He watched Natsu storm down the street, eventually turning the corner. Once the teen was out of sight, he exited the alley he was watching, and headed to the apartments. He made his way to Gray Fullbuster's apartment, picked the lock, and stealthily entered the pitch black apartment. So the ice mage was asleep? Perfect. He made his way around the darker shadows, hinting to where certain furniture was placed. He made it to the bedroom doorway and peered in. He could make out the shape of someone asleep on the bed. The person jerked awake, and he pulled back into the other room and pressed himself up against the wall. He listened for any signs of the teen getting up, and heard nothing. He started to proceed into the bedroom when a fist sent him flying into the coffee table.
*Natsu's pov*
He jerked awake when he sensed someone else's presence. He instantly knew it wasn't Gray. He got out of bed, silently making his way to the bedroom doorway. When he saw a shadowy figure peer in, he punched him so hard, he crashed into the coffee table. He stalked up to the figure but the stranger kicked his legs out from underneath him and he quickly wound up on the floor. He grabbed the stranger's ankle and yanked them with a growl, sending the intruder sprawling on his back. He wasted no time and was up in flash, ready to attack, but so was the intruder. Natsu narrowed his eyes, trying to get a glimpse of the stranger in the darkness, when he was sent flying into the wall behind him. The intruder approached him, and Natsu kicked him in the gut. He staggered backward, knocking over the end table and shattering the lamp that sat on it. Once the intruder was knocked backward, he had faded back into the shadows. Natsu was instantly on guard, heightening all of his senses. Who exactly was he fighting? It didn't matter, at least not until after he takes this guy down. He raised his fist as he made his way forward. Natsu's fist burst into flames to help him see, but no one was there. He whirled around, sensing someone behind him. He met eyes with his opponent for a second before the intruder lunged at him. Natsu didn't have a chance to react before the man swung at him, slashing a deep line diagonally on his left lower abdomen. He cried out in agony when the man slashed another deep diagonal cut, making it look like an X. Natsu sluggishly swung his flaming fist at the man, but the blood loss was making him slow down. He staggered and eventually fell to the ground with a thud; his vision swam as he watched the man make his escape. He looked down to his side, seeing a pool of blood forming underneath him. He covered the wound with his hand, trying to stop the blood flow. He couldn't burn it closed, he was too weak. He tried to crawl to the door but only got a few feet away from where he fell, a trail of blood between the pool of blood and his body the only proof that he actually moved. Natsu collapsed, his head hitting the floor and he noticed all the blood he was losing. It was already creating another pool under him as his vision started to fade away. He was going to die if someone didn't come soon and chances of that were slim, seeing as Gray stormed out after their fight. The ice mage probably won't come back in time. Natsu closed his eyes, struggling was pointless. It would only make him lose blood faster, and he knew deep down that he wasn't going to walk away from this. That man was aiming to kill me, and he made sure that was going to happen. He wished he could say goodbye to the guild, to Gray. He wanted to apologize to Gray, to tell him he… The thought vanished before he could finish it as he quickly lost consciousness.
*Erza's pov*
"Erza, I'm telling you, they were acting really weird. Gray got really mad when Lisanna accidentally kissed Natsu. Something's up." Erza looked at the blonde.
"Were they fighting?" Her eyes instantly hardened just thinking about it.
"No, at least not while we were there, but still. There was a lot of tension." Erza slammed her armored fist on the table, making the blonde jump.
"Why can't they just get along?" She stood up and headed for the door. Lucy struggled to keep up with the redhead.
"Erza, where are you going?"
"I'm going to knock some sense into those two idiots!" She glared at the celestial mage.
"O-oh, o-okay then. I'll come too." Lucy stuttered out under the glare the redhead was sending her way. The two made their way down the street, headed for Gray's apartment.
"So you said that Gray got mad after Lisanna kissed Natsu?" she asked. The blonde nodded.
"Yeah, it was almost like he was jealous. But it's Gray and Natsu we're talking about. That would never happen. They fight way too much. Right?" The blonde looked at the redhead curiously. The redhead just gave her a knowing stare.
"You don't think- No way."
"They don't hate each other as much as everyone thinks. You and I both know they know what the other is thinking. Who knows? I'm sure they'll explain it to us as soon as we arrive." A man bumped into her but continued going on. She turned to glare and berate him about manners when she noticed he was in a black hoodie, covering most of his body. The thing that stood out the most was the overwhelming stench of blood.
"Hey! Stop!" She yelled, but the man continued on, turning into an alley. She ran after him, but the alley was empty.
"Erza? What's going on? Who was that guy?" The blonde asked.
"I don't know. We need to hurry." She ran out of the alley and down the street, leaving the blonde to chase after her. They arrived at Gray's apartment 15 minutes faster than they would have. The redhead looked alert while the blonde was panting and trying to catch her breath.
"Erza, what's going on?" She rasped out.
"That man smelt like blood. I was worried that maybe someone got to Gray."
"Natsu wouldn't let that happen. It was probably nothing; maybe he was hurt himself and went to someone who could heal him." Erza doubtfully nodded her head. She wouldn't worry unless they found someone injured. She shouldn't get carried away.
"You're probably right." They walked into the apartment building and up to the one that Gray currently resided in. The door was closed, so Erza knocked loudly. No one answered and she knocked again. She was met with silence once again.
"Gray? Natsu? It's Erza and Lucy, let us in!" She announced. Once again, no one responded. She reached for the knob and turned it. The door was unlocked. Something was wrong. She opened the door slowly, and nodded to Lucy, letting her know to be on guard. The door swung open and they took in the disaster; first, the couch, then the broken frames, then the overturned end table and shattered lamp, and finally, the trail of blood. Erza walked in and flipped on the lights so she could take the mess in better than the light from the hallway. She approached the broken end table where the trail started with a large pool of blood. She was filled with dread as she followed the red path which led behind the couch. She stopped short at what she found at the end.
"Erza? What's the- Oh god. Is that-?" Lucy gasped out in horror. Erza nodded grimly.
"It's Natsu." He was collapsed in another large pool of crimson blood. His side was slashed deep and was still trickling blood. She knelt down and applied pressure to the wound. His body was going cold.
"Lucy! Look for Gray!" Lucy nodded numbly and searched the apartment. She came back and shook her head. Erza's heart sank, did they capture him again? She motioned Lucy over.
"We need to get him to the guild. Now!" She barked when the blonde didn't move. The blonde jerked to life and helped raise Natsu up. Erza put one arm over her shoulders while Lucy did the same with the other. They started hauling him back to the guild, while Erza kept applying pressure to his side.
*Unknown pov*
He left the apartment in a hurry. He failed his mission. He was supposed to capture the ice mage, which after observing them for a little while, he deemed it easy as long as the dragon slayer was out of the picture. He never expected a fight, let alone one with the dragon slayer himself. He had to admit the teen had put up quite a good struggle; he felt his cheek swelling and was pretty sure his nose was broken. But in the end, Natsu was no match for him. The injury he gave the boy should prove fatal, seeing as no one would be coming by anytime soon. Even though he had put an end to the problem that Natsu posed, he still failed his mission. The teen wearing Natsu's sweatshirt was Gray; he never considered that Gray could have been wearing the other's clothing. It was too late to track him down, the boy could be anywhere. He had to go back empty handed and hope that killing the dragon slayer would be enough. He bumped into a redheaded girl, too lost in his thoughts to have noticed her before. He kept walking until she shouted at him. He jerked out of his thoughts and ran as fast as he could, he knew she was chasing him. He turned into an alley and quickly scaled the wall. He crouched on the roof, peering over the edge, waiting for her to leave. She ran off in the direction he came from and he jumped off the roof, landing with a thud, and left Magnolia as quick as he could.
*Erza's pov*
They burst through the guild doors in a hurry. Everyone went silent when they laid eyes on them.
"We need to get him to the infirmary now! Someone get Porlyusica!" She barked orders to the shocked guild mates. Gajeel and Levy helped get Natsu into an infirmary bed, while Wendy started to treat him. She had to stop soon, with the wound only partially healed. They stitched the injury up and wrapped it with gauze, then cleaned off a lot of the blood while they waited for Cana to get back with Porlyusica.
"Where's Gray? If this happened to Salamander, then…" Gajeel trailed off, not knowing how to finish his sentence.
"We don't know. He wasn't there, I just hope they didn't take him again…" Erza responded. The door burst open and Porlyusica walked in. She went to Natsu and looked him over, then turning to glare at everyone else in the room.
"All of you, get out! Filthy humans…"She glared at Erza and the others and they all left, sticking close to the infirmary for news about Natsu. It wasn't long until Porlyusica came out.
"He lost a lot of blood, chances are that they damaged an artery. He went into hypovolemic shock from the blood loss, which I have no cure for. Due to the blood loss and hypovolemic shock, he went into a coma as well. The only thing I can do for him, is give him some blood transfusions to make up for the significant blood loss." She motioned for us to enter the room.
"This situation calls for massive transfusion protocol, which aims to replace his total blood volume in less than 24 hours. It will also prevent hypothermia, although I can't guarantee he will recover from the coma. The IV here is what's introducing the new blood into his system. I'll come back to check on him, but in case something goes wrong, I wanted to inform you of what this process is. Now, I'll be leaving, send someone if something goes horribly wrong, otherwise I'll be back tomorrow." Erza nodded and Porlyusica left the guild. They all kept a close eye on the pinkette, while also waiting to see if Gray would walk through those doors.
*Gray's pov*
"He's such a jerk. God, I hate everything about that idiot!" He kicked a rock in anger. "He saves my ass all the time?! Yeah right! And that smug smirk!" He fumed, continuing on his way. Maybe he was overreacting. Somewhere deep down, he knew he was. He should turn around and apologize. But doing that was admitting he was wrong, and they may be dating, but it was a natural instinct to fight with the dragon slayer. Admitting he was wrong would basically mean Natsu won, which Gray couldn't let happen. Maybe if he cools off and goes back, they can act like it never happened. Again he knew that they would have to work this out. He knew he was wrong, so why is it so hard to admit it to Natsu?! No. It's not hard to admit he was wrong, it's more than that. He'd be admitting he was jealous. That's what he didn't want to tell the pinkette. The humiliation that he would get from Natsu would be unbearable. He was a prideful mage, he couldn't stand the thought. Although Natsu may not make fun of him, he couldn't take that chance.
"Ugh. Why is this so complicated?" He sighed in exasperation. He looked down and stopped in his tracks. This wasn't his sweatshirt. His mouth dropped open. He was wearing Natsu's sweatshirt. Gray's face turned red at the thought. It was a little big on him; you could only see the tips of his fingers poking out of the sleeves, and it was loose on his torso and a little longer on him than his own. He had the urge to yank the sweatshirt off, but he decided against it. It kept him warm and made him feel… safe. Was that because it was Natsu's or another reason? He started walking again, realizing he was close to his destination.
"I'm only wearing it because I'm cold, not because it belongs to him or anything…" He reassured himself, although it didn't quite convince him. He looked up to find that he was in front of the building he was going to. He walked up and entered, walking up the stairs and stopping in front of an apartment door. He knocked on the door quietly, and heard nothing. He knocked again, louder this time, and heard some rustling and footsteps. He heard the door unlock and it swung open.
"What do you-" The person stopped midsentence. They looked at him with furrowed eyebrows and a confused look.
"Gray? What are you doing here?" Gray gave them a small wave and smiled. He instantly felt relaxed and relieved.
"Hey, Lyon. Do you think I could stay awhile?"

Author's Note: Okay. I am so sorry I haven't updated. I had a lot of stuff to get done before finals, which I just finished on the 24th. Being a junior and keeping up with the work started to get really hard towards the end, but I'm just glad that year of high school is over. I'm planning on keeping up with this a lot more now that its summer, although I am travelling a lot so who knows if that will happen. Anyway, I had a few pages of this done before finals and I hated it, so I basically rewrote most of the ones I had finished already and then started from scratch. I never plan for this story or anything I write basically because I never stick to it. I wait for an inspiring song or idea and just go with it, so I got a little stuck on this chapter, but I found my way back with a little help from some music from youtube. Gray's feelings for this chapter, kinda continuing on into the next one is based off of the song Wasn't Worth It by Artist vs. Poet. They're a great band by the way, if you haven't heard of them, and another of their songs is gonna be inspiration for Gray in the next chapter as well, but I'll tell you the name for that one next time! ^^ I also draw a lot, and when I was stuck, I got super into it and kinda drew more than I wrote, so sorry about that. And the newest chapter of Fairy Tail! Oh my god, I never saw that coming, but looking back it makes total sense seeing as Deliora is a demon from Zeref's book or whatever. Anyways, I have some great ideas for this story now, and I'm super excited for you guys to read it. Also, when I said Lyon would redeem himself? Yeah, that time is now! Or more like next chapter, but you get the gist. Thanks to all those who review, favorite, and follow this story, you all are great! Onto reviews! ^^
sktrgrl13: "OMG YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW EXCITED I WAS WHEN I RECEIVED THIS UPDATE! XD SO HAPPY! I hope you had fun on your trip and i cant really blame you for the late update (i mean look at my track record :P)! as for the chapter it was really adorable and i love Gray's flustered reactions... i could definitely see him doing that lol he's such a tsundere! :3 i can't wait for the next chapter especially since Lisanna and Juvia are now involved (honestly Lucy I thought you were smart -.-') lol cant wait to ser Juvia's reaction when she finds out that Natsu is actually her "love rival"... poor Gray is gonna have to find a new house! XD good job on the chapter! looking forward to more! i also hope you post more stories because you honestly have a talent for it and posting on this site not only helps your confidence level but your skills as a writer as well! :D"
I'm really happy you like it that much! I had sooo much fun! It was really awesome to travel the world a little and I really want to see a lot more of the world now! And thank you! It didn't have much plot going on but I feel like these chapters combined will make their relationship more solid, since they just agreed to going out. And about Lisanna and Juvia, I wanted jealousy to come into this, and personally I couldn't stand Lucy at first. She seemed weak and couldn't do much, basically relying on everyone else like Natsu, Gray, and Erza. Granted she was new, but still I found myself hating her for that. But lately she's gotten stronger and better at being able to handle herself. I still don't really like her at all, but it's not a deep dark hatred anymore. I felt she didn't fit with Natsu either because she just kinda cried or did nothing. But she's definitely gotten better. But that's why I kinda made her oblivious to it, and she just was like oh hey wanna come and we can all hang out, since their girls and stuff, although I hope my dislike towards her character doesn't show.
Strife134: "Oh man this chapter was great and the end of the chapter I can't wait to see how gray reacts, also this story is definitly one of my favorite gratsu and I can't wait till the next chapter please keep up the awesome work. :3"
Thank you! I'm glad you're so into it and that it's one of your favorite stories with this pairing. That honestly makes me feel so happy! I will definitely try to keep up with it and make it awesome! Sorry it's so late! Thanks for reviewing! ^^
uzukun89: "Here it comes, Natsu's past with his biological parents before his first meeting with Igneel. Since Mashima-sensei never describes Natsu's past, I think your interpretation can be considered as our headcanon (Natsu's traumatic experience with fire and how Igneel helped him to make it helpful). Gah, Erza. You even ask Lucy, Juvia, and Lisanna to tag along with these two boys. Thing gets worse for Gray (for Natsu and Lisanna hints-I love this pairing, but it is interesting to put such hints as a plot twist in this story)."
When I read your review, I had no idea what a headcanon was. So I looked it up on urbandictionary, and I read it was what a reader, or a fandom depending, accepts even though it doesn't happen in the anime or manga. So that was pretty cool. :) And yeah, Erza has her moments. I wanted to have Gray be jealous so I needed Lisanna, since Lucy is established with Loke, and why not add Juvia? I think she's hilarious and kinda annoying, so I thought it'd be cool to write her, since I only brought her in at the beginning. I actually don't mind Lisanna and Natsu myself, but Gray and Natsu are my favorite. I find Lisanna to be a great character on her own, so maybe that's why I approve of her more than Lucy. And thanks! I'm glad you think it's interesting. Thanks for reviewing! ^^
.oO: "I'm so happy to see that you have updated your fic! Natsu and Gray are so sweet together XD"
Thanks! And I'm glad you like reading it! I honestly think their relationship is amazing in the manga/anime even though they're just friends. I fell in love with their friendship and then just kinda got carried away with the cheesy moments like when Gray told Natsu not to die! ^^ Ahhh, they're too cute! Well I'm sorry this chapter's late and thanks for reviewing! XD
Fallenangelsreborncall: "Why haven't you updated? I really want to see a jealous gray! How will Juvia act when she finds out about Natsu and gray? Will gray get pissed at lisanna even if it was an accidental kiss?! I need to know please update this story!"
I'm sorry I haven't updated! I'm really happy you are so excited about my story! I hope this chapter meets your expectations for jealous Gray, although Juvia or anyone won't find out about them yet. And the Lisanna part, that will also be answered later! You're review actually reminded me I had to finish this chapter, was just so busy with school and everything that when I finally got out, I just was super happy about having nothing to do, and kinda forgot that I was in the middle of writing this chapter and the fact I haven't updated in forever. So the day I got your review, I was like, "Crap. I totally forgot about it!", pulled out my computer, and called my sister to work on rewriting the parts I hated, so thank you for motivating me to get moving on this! I hope you like this chapter and thanks for reviewing! ^^
