Eddward stepped into the cold house. He could tell it had been a while before anyone had occupied the older building. It was a beautiful place and Eddward had fallen in love with the place the moment he set foot inside the home. A large grand stairway decorated the front room. The ceiling was high and arched into the shape of the house. Bay windows hung in a roundabout snug in the corner. The other hall that Eddward currently slowly explored led to a large luxurious kitchen.
"Good lord." Eddward breathed out forgetting Kevin's existence. Kevin slid his hands into the smaller teens shoulders causing him to jump. The redhead let a chuckle escape.
"Sorry Dork." the redhead keep his hands placed on the other teens delicate shoulders before sliding his hands around Eddward waist forcing him to lean against Kevin's form. The redhead then pointed to the small humble door that stood proudly in the middle of the kitchen. Its paint was worn and it had seen many, many years and looked rather out of place in such a refined home. The door looked hand carved and had birds and flowers and other decorations sprinkled over it.
"What a perfect, lovely door." Eddward said interrupting Kevin before he could finish his conversation. The sock clad teen had manage to wiggle free from the redhead's grasp and had made his way closer to the door. Kevin watched in amazement as Eddward's eyes sparkled while exploring the doors artwork. The teen smiled brightly and chewed on his lower lip while he let a finger follow a rose carving.
"This might be my favorite part of the house." Kevin smiled and slowly walked closer to Eddward. The redhead began to run his hand over a bird that was perched on the handle.
"It's mine too." Kevin whispered his hand wisping over small letters. "My great Grandpa Barr made this for my Great Grandma." Eddward's eyes widened and he too found some small letters with his hand.
"Are some of these carvings new?" Eddward inquired. Kevin looked to the carving the blue eyed teen was curious about.
" Yes, Anytime a Barr falls in love they make a carving before asking someone to marry em. Even my aunt Sam made one." Eddward let the information sink in as he found Sam's initials and then eyed Kevin with curiosity. "Sam asked Brent to marry her."
"She would." Eddward said with a smile as he looked for Kevin's father's. Within seconds his eyes found a moon with a detailed face surrounded by stars under the carved initials H.J.B. Kevin smiled knowing exactly what Eddward had found.
"My dad says my mom is his moon and stars." Kevin announced proudly. Eddward smiled sadly before removing his hand.
"Your parents are still in love?" The question sounded bitter to both teens ears. Kevin looked to the other teen with a worried curious expression. The look caused Eddward to shut his eyes and shake his head.
"I'm sorry Kevin." Eddward said after an awkward silence filled moment. "I'm glad your parents are in love. I hope I end up like the Barr's and not like the Vincent's." Guilt filled Kevin's stomach. He had forgotten why and how they had ended up here miles away from Peach Creek on a school night. Kevin sighed heavily before allowing himself to talk.
Look man, I'm sorry I brought this stuff up." Kevin was about to continue a long winded apology but once again Eddward interrupted him.
"Forgive my interruption, but please...I would like to hear more about the Barr's." Kevin let another moment of silence pass before he smiled.
"Well, my Grandpa built the rest of the house for my grandma. It took him 45 years. his carving is the roses and butterfly. My grandma loved that shit." Eddward visibly flinched over the bad language but stayed silent. "My great grandfather's carving is the bird above the handle. Aunt Sam's -as you saw- is the paw print and lilly." Kevin paused for a moment as a memory played in his head before continuing. "Actually, Sam taught me to dance in this kitchen." Kevin looked around the room. The sudden memory making him chuckle.
"You can dance?" Eddward asked obviously skeptical. Kevin raised a brow with a playfully smile tugging at his lips.
"All Barr's learn to dance."Kevin sounded almost seductive in tone. it caused Eddward to swallow and laugh nervously.
"H-how fortunate for you. I can't even do the adolescent awkward slow dance. Remember when I danced with Nazz in middle school?" Eddward shuddered with the embarrassment the memory caused him. "What a disaster." Kevin let a laugh slip out as the memory ran through his head as well. Suddenly another coy smile covered his face. The redhead had an idea, and before he could change his mind Kevin put his hand out to Eddward. The blue eyed teen stared awkwardly at the hand given to him.
"Wanna Learn?" Eddward let the words echo in his head before shyly taking the hand. The dark haired teen hadn't noticed until now how small his hands were compared to Kevins. Not even when the redhead had held tightly to his on the streets. Kevin brought Eddward close to his chest before placing his hand on the small of Eddward's back, causing a small blush to travel across the bridge of Edds nose. Kevin smiled at the effect he seemed to be having on the smaller teen. The redhead took Eddward's hand into his other free hand.
"Okay, put your free hand on my shoulder. I'm gonna lead you into a simple box step." Eddward shyly obeyed and slowly they began to move. It was ungraceful in the beginning but quickly they began to move more fluently. slowly Kevin led Eddward into a small twirl.
"Hey, you got the hang of it." Kevin said more proud of his teaching then of Eddward. "I've never taught anyone before." Eddward giggles playfully.
"Some say I'm a fast learner." Kevin rolled his eyes. before changing the pace to a slower one. A small pretty hum echoed out from Eddward to match the tempo of their dance. Kevin brought the small teen closer to him and Edd placed his head lazily on Kevin's chest in response. The two danced to Eddward's hum for quite a while before Kevin's voice vibrated in Eddward's ear.
"Your voice...It's pretty." Eddward smiled and lifted his head to look at his dance instructor. A blush found its way back onto the teens face.
"My family had me in music before I was three." Eddward answered before resting his head back into Kevin's chest. Kevin let go of Eddward's hand and placed it next to his other on the small of Eddward's back. The sock clad teen wrapped his other arm around Kevin's neck.
"Mr. Barr, handsome, athletic, smart, and you can dance." Eddward cooed out slightly flirtatious. "Whoever earns that door carving is going to be incredibly lucky." Kevin Blushed Before putting Eddward into a well timed dip.
"We have to head back into the city." Kevin announced to his passenger. Eddward let his eyes scan Kevin who was currently removing himself from the driver seat.
"Excuse me Kevin, but might I ask why?" Eddward asked. It was nearly 3 pm. it had taken a while to shower and wash their clothes to get on the road. Kevin leaned his head in when he heard the question and smiled before running towards his aunt's house. Eddward sighed and looked out the windshield at the road leading out of the ranch. He had enjoyed his stay and he was gonna miss the house and puppies. If he was honest Eddward didn't want to go back to Peach Creek at all.
"Hey...Sam and Brent say they are gonna miss you." Eddward tore his eyes from his spot on the road to focus on the voice ripping him from his thoughts. He hadn't even noticed Kevin's return. Kevin leaned against the car his hands gripped the door frame. "But they decided she was gonna miss you too much and needed to go home with us." Kevin finished with a huge smile.
"S-she?" Eddward asked perplexed. Kevin let a couple confusing seconds pass before picking up the large black puppy with a large purple bow and placing her in the car. The fluffy mess began to wag her tail uncontrollably at the sight of Eddward as she bounced his direction. The sock clad teen wrapped his arms around the giant pup and smiled.
"A-are you s-serious?" Eddward asked Kevin who beamed and simply nodded. Eddward looked out his window at Sam and Brent who smiled largely. with in seconds Eddward was out the door leaving behind a confused puppy and Kevin. The dark haired teen left no warning before he embraced Sam in a tight hug. Sam hugged back twice as hard. without a word Eddward moved his hug to Brent who chuckled and hugged back as well.
"Thank you so much." Eddward sobbed out quickly wiping his tears away.
"Don't forget to thank Kevin." Brent said as he patted Eddward's back. "He was gonna give up his bike money for you." Eddward gasped surprise on his face. The teen couldn't believe it. Kevin would do that for him?
"Eddward love, you need to get a move on if you want to get that pup some supplies." Sam interrupted. Eddward nodded and with one more hug. Sam and Brent watched as the small teen walked back to the car. The married couple smiled when Eddward wrapped his arms tight around Kevin's neck and kissed the taller teens temple. Kevin's blushed in surprise but returned the embrace as the puppy jumped happily over the pair's legs almost knocking them down.
"Kevin's gonna carve that boy something in the door...I just know it." Sam said to her husband as she sat in her porch chair to watched the kids leave. Brent began to rock in his own chair before giving his wife a simple nod followed by a smile and quick answer.
"Yes indeed baby doll." Brent sipped his coffee letting out a loud happy sigh to his wife.
"Yes indeed. That boy's a Barr."
