Chapter 6
Jayfeathers Pov
Jayfeather sniffed the air, hoping to find some more marigold and poppy seeds. He lashed his tail in frustration as he found none.
'It's all that stupid strays fault,' he thought angrily. 'I practically had to use the rest on her!' He huffed in annoyance. That she-cat was something else, and not in a good way. She was totally disrespectful to the clans customs and not to mention rude, hot tempered and irritating to no end. 'I can't believe I'm stuck with her for three whole moons.' He sighed and lifted his head towards the sky, closing his eyes as the wind ran through his fur. At least out here he could get peace and quiet. He purred to himself as the wind gently caressed his fur. 'This is what a warrior feels like right? As they run into battle?' He thought to himself.
He opened his eyes and sighed. "Why should I bother? I'll never be a warrior anyway." He shook his head and padded onwards, flicking his tail. He stopped as the scent of marigold finally hit his senses, and sniffed the air. He followed its scent by the lake and found a small patch of it. He gave a sigh I relief before leaning down and snatching some stalks with his jaws. He lifted his head, the herbs clogging his senses a bit, before turning to head back to camp.

Lionblaze's pov:
Lionblaze followed scarlet outside the den almost unconsciously, trying to figure out a way to entertain the feisty she-cat without her injuring herself even more. The sun shined brightly against his pelt, warming his fur comfortably. He thought some more, Maybe he could introduce her to the clan...? He was shook out of his thoughts as Scarlet suddenly stopped in front of him. She turned back to look at him, "hey Lionblaze, you alive back there?" He rolled his eyes but nodded, smiling a bit. He bounded up next to her and mewed, "yeah, so I can introduce you to the clan if you want,"
He saw a bit if weariness flash in her blue green eyes but she straightened up and nodded. "Okay." He nodded happily and looked around, most of the cats were out on a patrol but he spotted Mousewhisker, Hazeltail and Cinderheart talking over by the fresh-kill flicked his tail at her to follow and confidently padded over to them. Cinderheart noticed him coming over and smiled at him, "Hey Lionblaze," her blue eyes traveled past him and landed on Scarlet who was standing there. Her eyes widened at the sight of The blood red she-cat.
Lionblaze stepped back to stand beside Scarlet, "Hey guys, this is Scarlet." The three cats all shifted uncomfortably and Mousewhisker stuttered, "u-um, hi...scarlet..." Lionblaze noticed how all the cats were staring at there paws. He felt confusion run through him. What was wrong with them?
"Guys...?" He saw Hazeltail look up at Scarlet before flinching and looking back at her paws. Realization took over and he looked over at Scarlet. Her head fur had fallen in her face and now covered her eyes. She suddenly stood and mewed quietly, "I should be going now, nice to meet you all." She suddenly turned and stalked away.
He watched her go and called out, "Scarlet, Come back!" She ignored him and kept going. He turned back to them and hissed, "whats your problem?" Mousewhisker looked up and mewed quietly, "Lionblaze we know your not blind but...she isn't normal."
Lionblaze stared at him In confusion for a moment, he was already use to Scarlets unusual pelt and it hardly seemed different to him anymore. "What do you mean not normal?"
Hazeltail looked away and mumbled, "Lionblaze you saw her pelt, it isn't natural." He felt his fur bristle angrily.
"So what? She's a little different, but not everyone is the same! That just makes her special!" Cinderheart looked up at his words but he failed to see the hurt seep into her eyes as quickly she looked away. He glared at them before whipping around an stalking away. He didn't hear Cinderheart mumble, "what makes her so special?"

Scarlet's pov:
Scarlet stalked through the camp, ignoring her bodies scream of protest as she stretched her wounds. Her eyes were shadowed over as she walked. She supposed she should be used to the stares and gossip about her unusual appearance. But it still made her want to go strangle a badger. She shook her head flicking her ear, feeling her ear rings jingle causing more cats to stare. She bristled at their accusing stares and lowered her head.
'I hate this place.'
She was about to keep walking when she felt something small and soft bump into her gun leg. She whipped her head around irritatingly and saw two small kits standing there. One of them was sitting in their rump rubbing her head, she suspected she was the one who ran into her. The other was slightly larger and a tom.
The small she-kit groaned and stood up opening her eyes before immediately squeaking with surprise and fear of Scarlet. She opened her mouth to say something but the smaller tom cut her off. "You stay away from her you mangy rogue!" She narrowed her eyes to slits, feeling her temper rise. She towered over the kit, eyes dangerous. "Who are you calling mangy you useless little scrap of fur." The small tom immediately shrunk back and the she-cat along with him let out a squeak of fear. She glared at them for another moment before whipping around and stalking away. She headed towards the dreaded medicine den, grumbling as her wounds hurt her a bit. She stopped though as a soft voice met her ears.
"Hello," she turned to see a brown and white tabby she-cat with amber eyes.
"What do you want? Here to make fun of me?"she said coldly. The tabby didn't even flinch and mewed, "no young one, my name is Leafpool. I just thought you could use a friend, are you okay dear?" scarlet eyed her wearily, not sure if this she-cat was making fun of her or not. "...I'm fine." She mewed. Leafpool eyed her wound, her cobwebs having once again peeled off and were starting to bleed again. "Come with me." The she-cat gently laid her tail on her shoulder, and scarlet felt her anger slowly die down. There was something about the tabby that soothed her anger.
She followed Leafpool back to the medicine cat den, her paws feeling numb. All she wanted to do was curl up into a ball and never come out. As they entered the dreaded den, the sharp scent of herbs immediately hit her muzzle. She wrinkled her nose, flattening one ear in distaste. Leafpool twitched her whiskers at her reaction to the den. "Don't worry, you'll get use to it. It rubs off on you." Scarlet sighed and nodded padding to her nest. She laid down and reset her head on her paws, her mind far away as Leafpool sorted through some herbs. She flicked her eyes over to the tabby, "so your a medicine cat too?" Leafpool stopped for a moment, one paw still in the air. She didn't look back at her as she replied, "No...not anymore." Scarlet raised a brow, "huh? Why?" The tabby stiffened but didn't answer. When she did her voice was low, "I made a mistake." Scarlet stared at her in confusion by shrugged. "Okay, well, why are you helping me?" Leafpool relaxe and mewed quietly, "jayfeather is out collecting herbs, and you need some attention to that wound." Scarlet decided to let it drop, sensing that the she-cat didn't want to talk about it.
"So, I suspect that Jayfeather is treating you well?" The she-cat asked as she grabbed a mouthful of herbs and padding over to her. Scarlet snorted, "like how a dog treats a cat." Leafpool chuckled a bit as she chewed up the herbs. "He's never been the openly friendly type." Scarlet turned her head slightly, flicking an ear.
"You seem to know him well." Leafpool smeared some of the paste on her shoulder, making scarlet wince. "Yes, he is my...son." Scarlets choked on a laugh, "hehe, that's funny, the idiot bein' your son." She realized that the she-cat was serious and stared at her in shock, "how could that know it all be your son? He's nothing like you!" Leafpool opened her mouth but a snarl beat her to it.
"What. are. you. doing. In. here?!"Speaking of the devil.
Scarlet turned to see the silver tabby standing at the entrance, his fur bristling. His jay blue eyes were narrowed to slits and and his teeth were bared. Leafpool looked at him calmly, as the tabby stalked inside the den. "Relax idiot your mother was just dressing my wounds." He whipped his head around to glare at her with his blind gaze, and hissed through clenched teeth, "She is no mother of mine." Scarlet saw the brown tabby flinch at his words. He turned back to Leafpool and hissed, "who said you could come in here? Do you have an injury? No, so get. Out." Leafpool lowered her head, and mewed quietly, "I was only trying to-"
"Trying to what? Heal her? If you haven't noticed that isn't your job anymore, so do me a favor and get out of my den." Scarlet was fuming, how dare he treat his own blood that way?! "Hey idiot! Relax, what the hell is your problem?! She-"
"It's okay Scarlet." Leafpool mewed, "I will just go." The tabby walked quietly passed him and exited the den. Jayfeather stood still as stone, his fur still bristling in anger. "What the hell was that?! She is your mother, and you treat her like a damn pile of crap!" Jayfeather glared at her and turned away, "Shut up rogue." He stalked past her and went back to his herbs, in which she realized he must have dropped. She gritted her teeth, but held her tongue. She spat at him before turning away and laying back down in her nest. She glared at the wall with such ferocity she thought it might explode with anger.
She laid their for a while until she felt her eye-lids droop and blackness take over her vision.
...
Jayfeather's pov:
He fumed as he went through his herbs. Leafpool was always doing that, whenever he was gone, she would take it upon herself to do his job. He felt a little guilt at his harshness but quickly shook it away, it was her own fault. If she never ran off with the piece of fox-dung Crowdeather she would still be medicine cat.
'But then me and my siblings would of never been born.' He thought. 'But...what if we were born from Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight, would...would I have been born without my blindness? would I be a warrior instead of a medicine cat?'
He shook away the thoughts of what could have been, and tried to focus on reality. He flicked a silver ear as he heard soft snoring coming from the corner of the den. With a jolt he realized that scarlet must have fallen asleep. He sighed and grabbed some herbs before padding over to her sleeping form.
He hesitated before slowly applying the herbs, being sure not to wake her, he didn't fancy arguing with her again. Once he finished wrapping the cobwebs, he sat back and sighed, blowing at his head fur. He opened his jaws in a wide yawn before sleepily standing up and slowly padding towards his nest. He collapsed in the mossy bedding and rested his head on his fore-arm. The last thing he heard before sleep took him was Scarlets gentle snoring.
